Custos The Sentinel |

Custos would seem to be satisfied with her answer, giving a slow nod before settling upon the bunk that seemed to be his. The bed groaned slightly with his weight but the Warforged seemed to pay it no mind.
"No offence taken. It is strange, I can never truly be angry at the Last War. Without it, I would not exist."
He would reach into the small bag of personal items he had brought along with him, taking out a wild variety of books. Some historical, some folklore, some entirely fiction. Quietly, he would begin to read.

EltonJ |

Okay that is enough time for your characters to get to know each other.
After two weeks, the group is on leave. The group is in the city of Rekkenmark. At first, the city is a different place than the academy. The city is also old in places. Old buildings line the cobblestone streets. With the river winding past the city and the Martial Academy as well.

Garra |

Garra waits for a minute, then two before sighing and waving for the others to follow her. She leads them into the borders of the nicer districts and the slums, weaving through the crowds before arriving at a small tavern that looks like it never really had a prime. She waves them inside before entering herself.
"All of you looked so lost, I figured I'd pick a place for us to go," she explains as she finds a table for all of them, and hears her name called out as she begins to take a seat.
"Well if it isn't Garra the Guttersnipe! Haven't seen you around lately, how've ya been," a squat, barrel-chested man calls out as he spots the young woman from behind the counter.
Sorry, figured Gara would have a place she'd like to go to when she need to get away form the gang she belonged to. It's just supposed to be a hole in the wall place with some good, filling food for not a lot of money.

EltonJ |

Hohoho, yeah it works.
you see a black shape rob some girl and take her purse. He then moves, is stopped by a guard, and you see him take some money out of his pocket and then pay the guard. The guard then lets him go. Right there in full daylight.
Do you stop the thief?

EltonJ |

Perception check to notice something about the girl, thief or guard: 1d20+6. E.g. is the thief a starving war-orphan? Is the girl a wealthy noble?
The thief seems to have the guard on the take anyhow. Your perception check makes you think that it is a wastrel. Would anyone else like to perceive or sense motive?

Karola Kraal |

"That boy just pickpocketed that girl, and paid off that guard to let him do it. This is the kind of crap that gives Karnath a bad name," I murmur. Taking a moment to memorize the guard's face, I continue. "Let's stop the thief - we can deal with the guard through our chain-of-command, but once this guy's gone, he's gone."
So saying - though more than willing to be pulled back by a counterargument - I turn towards the thief and, trying not to arouse suspicion, begin to pursue him at a fast walk.

Malavakri |

Malavakri barely believes what she is seeing. Her anger rises and the hairs on her arms stand on end as she starts to build up mental energy for her mindblades. Before manifesting her blades and leaping out of her seat to charge the thief and guard, she notices the others taking a more subtle approach.
She gets up and starts looking around to see if there is a parallel street or path she might be able to take and get ahead of the thief. Not necessarily a shorter route, but even just a side street where she could walk faster or even run without the thief seeing.

Custos The Sentinel |

Custos walked the streets just a step behind his fellow cadets, old habits hard to break as he kept an eye out on the area around them. Ambush sites, choke points, that tactical acumen would be running through his mind over and over until they stepped near the tavern that Garra motioned them towards. With a look of surprise, he looked over the disheveled appearance but made no other comment as he entered in with them all and found a seat amongst his comrades.
That metallic face begins to furrow, the angered look being far more easily conveyed than any smile ever could. With Karolla's suggestion, he nodded and rose from the table, following behind the cleric and the half-elf. The man was lightly dressed compared to the heavier armor that Custos wore however and his mind began peeling back to the old books and tales Cornelius told him of his early adventures here in Rekkenmark and the tricks he would use to get around. He kept such knowledge at the front of his mind, hoping to use it to their advantage to corner or cut off the thief.
I'd like to try using a Kn: Local to keep in mind any secrets, quick getaways, and other tricks to make up for the lack of speed Custos will be having to deal with. Oh better armor, how I love yet loathe you.

EltonJ |

[dice=Kn: Local]1d20 + 7
Huzzah for stastically average? :P
Enough to know two of the local gangs.
You recognize the thief to be a part of the Shadow Thieves, which has been operating in Rekkenmark since you were made. (Yeah, I stole them, sue me). The thief runs down the street, knocking over some of the wares and creates a mess in his wake.

Custos The Sentinel |

"Cornelius told me of these men and women. The Shadow Thieves, they were called. They're an older gang, since before the Last War. Custos murmurs into Karola's and Ilbryn's ear.
When the thief knocks down the wares, creating a mess throughout the street and alley, Custos shouts back to them "See about delaying him until I can catch him."

Ilbryn Herubawienagar irManimar |

Ilbryn reaches into the air next to his head, gathers energy, then hurls a fall of grey fire at the running thief.
ranged touch: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Exhausting Strike, thief must make a DC 12 fort save or he is exhausted for 1 minute (spending a spell point to make it 1 min vice 1 round). If he saves, he is only fatigued for 1 round
most important part here is exhausted means half speed, cant run or charge. fatigued just means no run or charge. exhausted also penalizes dexterity so i imagine it'll make his hide/acrobatics/AC 3 worse.

Malavakri |

Did the thief start running before we found a parallel path? It sounded that way since he caught on as soon as we split. If so, Malavakri wouldn't bother with a separate path since the point was to get ahead without him noticing.
Assuming we did not separate before the thief started running...
Glowing energy emerges from Malavakri's hands as she creates her mindblades. She runs forward and tries to put a righteous fire in her voice while yelling, "Stop, thief! Your life isn't worth whatever is in that purse!"
Intimidate: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
Otherwise, she will run along the parallel path until she thinks they are ahead of the thief. No mindblades yet.

Garra |

Why me?
Garra hesitates for a moment before letting out a sigh and finding the quickest way to the rooftops.
Climb+5, Acrobatics+6: 1d20 ⇒ 7 Climb: 12, Acrobatics: 13Not sure which one to use, but either way, this isn't going to be her cleanest roof run.

Karola Kraal |

"Crap," I mutter as the thief takes off running. Catching him looks to be an impossibility, if he knows the streets the way I'd expect a cutpurse to.
"Stop, thief! Your life isn't worth whatever is in that purse!"
"No it isn't," I reply, as I follow her. "So we can't kill him for it."
Which, realistically, means we're probably going to lose him.
On the other hand, I think, as Garra leaps up onto the gabling, nimble as any cat, maybe there's a chance of catching him after all.
Then Ilbryn cuts loose with his weakening ray, the thief staggers to a halt... and two more of them materialize, seemingly from nowhere. "War's over," I tell them, as I slow to a halt. "Lots of ex-soldiers around now. Lots of government interest. Lots of new opportunities. Toss back the purse, quit the life of crime, and we'll call it even. No-one cares about the past anymore."
Diplomacy 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Yet in the back of my mind, I can't help but wonder if we've stumbled across not a robbery-gone-bad, but someone's operation. What a beautiful dead-drop between spy and handler, the anonymity of theft...

EltonJ |

how close are they all together? close enough to catch in a 25-ft cone? if so, i have something cinematic and plot-relevant to pull out (though it's just a taste until later). if not, no biggie, i have other options.
They are close enough, they are about 20 feet away.

The diplomacy roll didn't work as they stick out their tongues at you.

Garra |

Init: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Garra just shakes her head as violence erupts in the streets below.
Let's at least get some good out of this, she thinks as she moves along the rooftops.
Following the thief from the roof. Let me know if I need to roll anything to keep track of him.

Custos stops seeing the two others step out to assist their stunned friend, the magic that emanated from Ibrenyl seeming to take the wind out of his chest. The greatsword upon his back is slung off with an easy, practiced movement.
He stops for just a moment, wondering if the men would listen to Karola's wise words, but they do not seem willing to part with the gold. "It is unfortunate...though it makes things much simpler. He steps alongside with Kutishek, giving the shifter a nod as his grip tightens and the giant blade is held aloft in a firm, upright stance.
