Retconned: Conversation and Dinner with Elder Council.
** spoiler omitted **
Ariarh sees Robert "The Drake" standing by the fragrant smelling, laden table. She approaches him, trying to...
Edit: Drake's response to Ariarh...
"It is alright, lady - I too have had my own distractions, and they have weighed somewhat heavily on me," he adds with a frown.
Leaning toward you, he adds softly.
"It is about the girl Dasha - she has had some issues as of late - nothing too serious, but well... she needs much looking in on - Perhaps you could speak to her? I know you have had good relations with her in the past - and I am not sure what to do - though the Lady Turon - she feels that Dasha is not in danger, but rather - she suggests that is not danger but trials the girl is going through - but as for what they are? I do not know..."
He nods quickly, making a brief bow, then hurries off on some private errand, trusting in your discretion and good heart.

After Tinker strolls off, to do his Duty, Ka'etil smiles as he heads off, looking around the place. The newcomers are milling about, Ry is speaking with the Duke, Interesting, that fellow, wonder what he's up to here, skeptical about the man, now aware of the potential for political power-plays that he could be a part of...
Kae shrugs, and ambles off in search if "the Drake". Picking himself a heaping helping of some sort of roasted meats, he approaches the man for a quick word. "Drake,is that how you like to be called these days, or do you prefer another monicer?"
"Anyway, the Brevoyan, Delain, seems to be in a position to make an some interesting political moves due to his position within the brevoyan hierarchy compaired to Tinker. What's your take on the man, I've only just met him."

Drake gives you a somewhat shy smile.
"My name is Robert Tyrell - but the folk have called me "Drake" for so long - I am used to it. There was a time when the word made me feel shame and guilt - but I don't really feel that way anymore... For these people, it is more of a familiar nickname - rather then a sneering insult. To answer your question - I take the name "Drake" in the spirit it is offered. If you say it as a friend would - a name between friends - then I am pleased. If it is meant to mock or abuse? Well... clearly you can draw your conclusions on that account."
He thinks on your other comment for a moment before answering.
"This sword-Scion - this Delain - he is not yet a Duke - remember; his father is Duke, he is heir to the title - though formally a lord."
"I recall hearing of this man's father, when I was younger and before my house was ousted by Kaid's family..." Drake says, pausing to think a moment.
"The Esserian line was powerful in military and coin - owning rights to some iron and silver mines near the Numidian borders. But the borders of Numidia were often challenged by bandits and others who would assult them - looking for loot and such... As such the Duke would often lead raids personally against bandit chiefs or barbarian wanderers - because of this he was not often looked on well at the capital. Most lords would dub him "The Fighting Duke" to his face, but when he was gone they would make sneering coments about his directness - that is, his lack of subtlety, and his need to take action personally rather then attending to "matters of State" and other such issues."
"If those stories are true - that the man takes hard action against enemies - leading personal charges and wasting no time in patrolling his lands personally and not making petty speeches in an "ivory tower" far in the capital while his underlings do all the "grunt work"... well, then this is completely the caliber of man I would want as an ally," Drake says with a wolfish grin.
"Of course," he adds with a non-commital shrug "That was rumor - and that was also many years ago, people can change, eh? And, also - that was the actions of the father. I know little about the son, for I have only met him. But of course, your own comrade Master Brett seems best equipped to answer your question directly."
"After all - didn't Master Brett serve with these men for a time? Doesn't Master Brett still wear the same uniformed armor as the Duke's men? From the blue leather breastplate to the gold falcon crest on his bracers? Never mind the masterfully crafted Aldori dueling sword - cut for his size, too - with the same style of woksmenship on the hilt?"
"And isn't it true that Master Brett saved this very lad who is come with his outriders to our village from mercanaries and slavers who searched for ransom for the boy, even as Master Brett saved him and took him to his father and safety - living then in the court and training with the son?"
"And though men can change - wasn't it Master Brett who sent a letter directly to the north during the winter - spending his time during the winter training allies and dispatching letters to old comrades - even now discovering his letter was recieved and the answer returns with this boy who has now become a man?"
Drake looks at you for a moment out of the corner of his eye.
"I am no expert - but, if I may be permitted a thought - perhaps it would be better to ask Master Brett these questions - he may give you a better answer then I. Now, if you'll excuse me - I must look after a private matter connected to my... my friend - miss Dasha," Drake adds politely - then points out Brett is standing not far from you eating some pickled sausages and holding a cup of mead as well.

"It is alright, lady - I too have had my own distractions, and they have weighed somewhat heavily on me," he adds with a frown.

He nods quickly, making a brief bow, then hurries off on some private errand, trusting in your discretion and good heart.
In equally soft voice, Ariarh replies,
"Robert, I shall call on Dasha on the morrow. I was meaning to see her during this visit. I am sorry to hear she is experiencing certain issues, but if I can help then I shall do all in my power."

"Of course, Drake. I do hope your friend is well. She is certianly an enigmatic girl," he says recalling the resurection of Alaric. "I simply wanted to try to get a stranger to the lord's impression of the young lord, unclouded by past experiences. As you say, people can change, and memory is not always true." Kae politely bows to Robert as the man takes his leave.
Seeing the Lord and Ariarh have finished their conversation, and she is meeting Arasmis, Kae sidles over, to join the conversation. which has all already happened

1. I think the DM may have accidentally missed it. Just remind him when he gets back from his little trip.
2. Just setting this conversation up time wise. Ariarh walks into the Elder gathering after bathing and changing her attire. She quickly moves over to Robert "The Drake" to make amends for their earlier misunderstanding. This conversation is Ariarh's first for the night and happens before any other. Just before Drake wanders off to take care of some personal business, Shaezon moves toward them and speaks with them.
"Good evening, Shaezon. 'Tis a fine evening, indeed, with many new faces to acquaint one's self with. How are you finding Master Oleg's town? To be immersed in new surroundings in such a short time may be a little overwhelming, I would presume."
Thinking upon something, she then adds,
"How you been formally introduced to Robert Tyrell?" gesturing to the stern looking human beside her.

Looking to Tyrell, "I have not yet. Pleased to make your acquaintance. I am Shaezon SIlverfall and this is Mister." Motioning to the creature laying across his shoulders. Mister looks at him a moment before his attention is drawn elsewhere.
Edit;"And what is your function here, mister Tyrell?"

kae was talking to tinker and then sees Drake after he leaves ry and shaezon, at some point, i'd guess, just after she starts chatting with Delain I think...
Then he approaches Ry and Aasmis, after drake takes his leave. I'll respond about the alliance and stuff when I got more time.
Ka'etil Malas'rae
"I would like the chance to speak with him before making a decision either way, but it does seem that an alliance would be advantagious. We are in rather secvere need of military support here in this village, and if they could lend us aid until we are more established here, we would be able to offer our support to him and his House."
"It would be valuable to study the political landscape of Brevoy more closely, to see where the borders of his house's lands are in comparison to our own, as well as Kaid's, as he is already supporting us in a way."
"Making a more solid pact with him as well could be beneficial, he supports us in protecting the interests of house Kaid. It's the same as we have now, but it would bind him to us."

Sorry, did indeed just miss this post.
From Oleg -
"Well, thank you indeed, thank you indeed," he beams widely.
"Of course, the trick is how to schedule and plan these things - see, we formally only had a bit of our private expenses invested in the food and other stuff. But, we made it known that the entire town could pitch in for the common good - bring a meal for six, as it were - most families only having four in them. Well, we know that if everyone added a bit of extra coin to a large meal - and then served it all on a large line of tables for all to sample - it cost us nothing, and makes the community happy."
Oleg pauses meditatively, as if considering something...
"I guess that be a perk of having a priestess of Erastil in the town Shrine - being that he a god of Community and such. Nay doubt the capitial - with it's large resources and handy priest of Erastil - why, by now they're ilkely swamping us community good works. But - busines sup here's been slow, and I ain't had a time to visit them yet."
From Sylviana -
"Well met indeed, kinsmen - for are we not all of the same people? Yet, not always considered as such," she adds with a soft smile.
"Even I, sometimes, have been marked as... unique?... among our people. As such, I feel that it was best for me travel from home. My gifts, while advantageous to such people, are not always seen as special - sometimes appearing as a hinderance to others."
"But, how I came to be here? Let us say that it was the stars who guided me. I am student of things beyond the realms that sight can see - and, when my spirit is moved by greater visions, I am compelled to follow them, even thought it may take me far from home. For do not the gods say - Thy can never travel far from home, if thou keepeth thy home within thy breast? And, so it is.... Thus, I have followed my visions and am now here."
- To Doctor Emmit White
"Theorycraft? Shaezon - I don't "Craft" theories and I don't theorize on "crafting" - so, firsly reconstitute your vernacular and approach the topic of conversation with more direct demands and greater-induldged idiosyncracies! Then we can proceed better. Also, it should be noted that I am a student of things - and, with the knowledge I glean from things I may be, at best, merely considered a pathway in which all things may pass through me and reach their logical conclusions via an organic means of delivery in the form of my body," he adds, nibbling a biscut.
"Also - I should point out that I enjoy kite flying, if you do? Perhaps we can fly a kite sometime, and then, if the mood is on you - we could do something interesting? Like, say... formulate a plan and then concluding said plan via a project which, once finished, shall allow us to bend time and space and open a door to another dimension, but more importantly - travel back and forth through time? Of course," he adds, the last part almost to himself "Such a portal could provide a collusal means for us to travel - giving us access to the Fifth dimension," he adds with a knowing shake of his head.
"Naturally the dimension travel we have currently allows for advances on the tri-lateral grid axis - a dimension on both length, width and depth - and of course the somewhat unique variance of the forth traveled dimension - inter-planar - which allows creatures to exist simultaniously in the same theoreticaly quardinate on a infinite axis - but, as they are on a seperate plane of existence - they can exist without even touching each other!"
"But listen to me go on... as if I needed to explain any of that to you? Still - I do like kite flying, if you are interested?" he adds the last hopefully, the munches another biscut.

Drake responds politely - but is forced to excuse himself. You can see he is troubled by something and you heard it may be a friend of his. Though he cannot stay to talk now, you suspect you will have the chance to speak with him later that tonight, or, more likely the morning after.
After all - you suspect that the rustic food and fun will probably be all the excitement a village like this can handle!

Then, he glances about again...

No worries...
Remember, too - you may be able to get some more details from Brett on Delain - they're old friends and he can probably answer your questions on that person better, if you are looking for personal information.
As Ry is at a real-time wedding we may not see a post from her until tomorrow. Anyway - hope to see you soon - and a response between you each soon.

Yeah so im a little confused as to what we were talking about. Are Kae Ry and Arasmes still talking or did kae and ry go off to talk about the alliance?
Well, it looks like a lot of things are happening at once, in a matter of speaking. The best thing for you to do is figure out who you want to talk to - player or NPC - and then just post up what you want to say to that person.
If it is an NPC I will answer it "as soon as you asked", but - for a guy like Drake who was already on the way to see Dasah when Kae asked him a question - the answer was therefore short.
For a guy like Shae who asked questions to some of the town elders - because the questions were brief - the answers were relatively brief, and they kind of would have happened throughout the course of the meal. Basically, as Shae gave me no timeilne on when he would have asked - he'd get the answers "as soon as he could ask them and they could answer". This is why Shae got all three answers back to back. He didn't talk to all three town elders back to back - it was merely assumed that between walking around, saying hello and asking questions, that answering that way would be fastest.
There is a lot of stuff up on the boards, so, best thing to do is pick who you want to talk to - toss up your questions - and they will answer them in order of what the NPC is able to do. For player characters - since we are all a little more aware of what we do for our player - it is a safe bet that Kae, Shae, and Ry will answer your questions in the same fashion.
This assumes that you are only asking questions. You may have other plans - like, deciding to visit some of the village, or something else I can't think of. No worries! Just let me know what you want to do - who you want to talk to - and it will happen as soon as possible.
To all: Things like this conversation can get a little confusing, especially on a PbP game - best thing to do, I think, is not worry too much on turn based conversations. Just say what you want, when you want, and we'll handle things as best as we can as soon as it makes sense. It's like Fog of War effect for talking :)

"Well, it could be nostalgic - if it happened eighty years ago - but what if, on some alternative plane, timeline or dimension there was another you who was flying a kite now! Then, it wouldn't be so long ago - but at the same time!"
He grins a little wistfully.
"Maybe that's my I like to study planar travel - after all the horror and tragedy I've seen in my life, part of me likes to believe there will always be a dimension, timeline, or plane in which an exact copy of ME is happily living with my family and friends - frolicking over the grasses and playing in the fields and... well, just staying out over the wide hills flying kites."

So, until someone can prove to me that my family and I aren't still united happily on some other plane or dimension - I'll keep believing it's true," he says, somewhat emphatically.

Yeah so im a little confused as to what we were talking about. Are Kae Ry and Arasmes still talking or did kae and ry go off to talk about the alliance?
Ry and Kae went to the side and had a brief chat about Delain's offer of alliance. Then they returned to Arasmes and Oleg and I suppose they were going to drink/sip some wine and converse, if Arasmes was interested.
Ariarh Kane
"I would like the chance to speak with him before making a decision either way, but it does seem that an alliance would be advantageous. We are in rather severe need of military support here in this village, and if they could lend us aid until we are more established here, we would be able to offer our support to him and his House."

This conversation is an aside happening amidst conversation with Arasmes and Oleg. Ariarh had pulled Kae to the side for a bit and this is them finishing their private conversation then returning to Arasmes and Oleg.
"Delain Esserian seems a straightforward man. I do believe he would be open to discussion with our Council regarding this suggested alliance. Also, Brett may be able to shed some light on the matter as he belongs to the very same House and requested the military support, from what I have gathered."
Ariarh Kane
This conversation took place in the latter half of the evening as Ariarh moves through the village/party.
Ariarh notices the young Ustalavian woman with the different coloured eyes. If memory served her correct, Moira Lochlin was the priestess who maintained Erastil's Shrine within the village proper. Ariarh easily approaches the woman.
"Good evening, Mistress Lochlin. I am Councilwoman Ariarh Kane and I was eager to introduce myself to you." Ariarh extends her hand and has a kind smile on her face. "I had the pleasure of walking to Erastil's shrine earlier this evening. The work there is wonderful. A happily situated place, indeed. I felt such peace and I thank you for taking such good care of it."
"I was wondering, with new settlers flowing steadily into town, have you come across any new or interesting afflictions? Anything out of the ordinary for a healer? We have come across some unusual things of late and I am curious to know more of what is happening across our lands."

Moira looks at you, turning her head to the side somewhat, a quizzical smile on her face.
”That sounds simply dreadful for our great capital – that it would suffer such afflictions. For ourselves? Nay, there is nay such trouble in the lands here – we be fine and true; nay true afflictions that may trouble a village such as ours – except fer the trials that any small community may face during the winter months. A few issues with some sickness – but it is naught more then the usual dross. Most true problems here – that could have been true problems, I should add – most were allayed by the goodly amounts of provisions put aside during the winter. The massive amounts of grain and goods that were taken here from bandit camps helped us a lot. So, with the food there were no cause for hunger, or starvation – and nay worries on the plagues that come with such things. It was, as I should think – rather merry Yule. Indeed, Master Brett often came here from the southlands with a few of his mates. They would often travel about with Drake on furrows into the southwest – toward the forests there. They’ve done brought back heaps of meat and types of roots called “moon radishes” – which be savory and good besides.”
”Master Brett also did hunting fer and found a good valley with bear in it – brought back much meat – and Master Drake did likewise near a fogged out woody area!”
Moira stiffens a bit, and calls you in a bit closer, her voice dropping.
”They done not speak of it – but rumor is it there is ruins to the west – Master Oleg had said it be a temple to Erastil – and cleaned out of foul things – but… Rumor has it that dark creatures have returned! Something most foul and evil – and Master Brett and Master Drake won’t venture near it without stronger aid.”
You are puzzled why Brett never mentioned this before.
”Him? Oh – he done said nothing – he said the townsfolk need not know of this thing – and he also said that it be a “Shadow from the Past”. But Master Brett – he were for telling you all right and true – said that the temple of Erastil should not be profaned again – but then it were the lass Dasha herself that done spoke and said that the curse on the temple was potent, but it could not be vanquished until the first full moon in Spring. Yet, the first day of Spring was the 20th and the last full moon was – in truth, in winter – the first day of the Full Moon in Springtime falls on the Ninth of next month! That be the day that the curse can be finally lifted and beat good! Till then – nay, it cannot be challenged.”
”Miss Dasha – her word be said – and then the Lady Turon read the signs as well and confirmed it. The temple be made true whole on the Ninth of next month. Master Brett would no doubt have informed you more on this matter – and will, once the date is ripe. As it is? Why, it sounds like you have other things on your mind – as of now…”
She smiles shyly at this, and looks on, sipping from a mug of mead, wondering if you have any more questions.
This is secondary quest - if anyone wishes to take it on - it has some bonus points - 2 BP for your village - and 2,000 GP for it as well.
Ariarh Kane
The news that the Temple of Erastil had been defiled by evil once more did not sit well with Ariarh. She had wished Brett had mentioned this situation to the Council but she could not fault him. There had been much to do these past months and it seemed that as soon as one problem was resolved two more replaced it.
It also seemed that Brett had been quite busy here at Oleg's during the Winter. She wondered why he had not mentioned his excursions north to the Council. She set her mind to track him down later and have a word to him.
"I know these ruins of which you speak of. Last I was there we had certainly cleansed, or believed we had, the wretched foulness that tainted the grounds. So, the Ninth of next month is when the curse will be removed for good? Then, I must ride to the ruins along with the party organised for this undertaking. The temple is a sacred place and evil must never get a foothold there ever again. I am grateful for the confidence you have shared with me this night, Miss Lochlin."
Tapping her finger against her mouth, Ariarh is thoughtful for a few moments and then her expression changes as she seems to remember a question she had meant to ask.
"Miss Lochlin, what brought you here? I do not mean to pry, I assure you. Yet I am curious as to why you chose to settle on Master Oleg's land." With her eyes, Ariarh is gently persuading the priestess to speak.

Ariarh will take on the 2nd quest to the ruins of the Temple of Erastil.
Ka'etil Malas'rae
Kae's down for a secondary quest to kill evil stuff in the temple!!! weeeeee!!!! but not for the next couple weeks. I have finals due the 9th of next month as well, so I need to focus on that, posting at my current rates.
Arasmes ibn'Fayad
Arasmes would definitely be interested in the secondary quest.
At the next opportunity, Arasmes would like to continue his conversation with Ariarh.
At next opportunity
Arasmes approaches Ry and says Councilwoman Kane? My apologies for monopolizing your precious time but I feel I can be blunt with you. I am newly come to this land and as such do not know anyone. I was hoping I could return to the capital with you as I would like to present myself to your Lord Alaric. I also seek work so as to make myself a useful member of your community. I have been told I am an excellent negotiator and believe I could be of use to a nation such as yours if given the opportunity. He pauses for a moment before continuing, In addition...and I hope you forgive me for saying so but...I also go in the hope that I would get to spend a bit more time with you. Once again, a thousand apologies if this is too forward but I am intrigued by you and find you to be one of the, if not the most, beautiful woman I have ever had the pleasure to gaze upon. I am sure you have been told such before and bards must be writing of your beauty as we speak but I could not help myself in this instance. As I say, apologies again for my forwardness. He bows again to you before smiling again in a different way from before. The smile is still dazzling but there is a hint of shyness and vulnerability that was not present before, as if this is truly out of character for him to put his thoughts and feelings out like this to someone he has just met.
Arasmes ibn'Fayad
Arasmes also approaches Ka'etil and says Councilman Ka'etil, I was hoping you might be able to educate me about the other members of the council. I plan on staying in this land and I would like to know about the people that rule. I know about your efforts here in a general sense but I was hoping to learn about your council in particular so I might be able to help in some small way where needed. Arasmes is genuine in his interest to learn as much as he can about you all and the country as a whole.
Ariarh Kane
Secondary conversation with Arasmes, soon after Ariarh had spoken with Ka'etil about Delain's alliance.
"Mister Fayad, please do not concern yourself with monopolising my time, it is freely given to one and all." Ariarh inclines her head to the newcomer and gestures for them to walk over to one of the benches to sit and speak.
"If you sincerely seek an audience with our Lord Winter, then it is within my power to organise such a meeting. As the ruler of a growing nation he has many concerns, as you may be aware, yet he is a man who would seek to engage another in conversation, especially for the improvement of the realm. I cannot speak for the entire Council but I do not see why you cannot return with us to Saravale in a few days hence." Saravale could do with more people skilled in the art of courtly conversation and negotiation.
Upon hearing Arasmes' rich words of praise in regard to her beauty, a great shyness overcame her and her cheeks flushed under his gaze and admiration. She was at a loss of words for more moments than deemed polite and she was contrite in the clumsiness with which she was reacting to his kind words. With a gentle politeness, Ariarh responds to the newcomer,
"You do me much honour, Sir. I am humbled by your praise. My time is not always my own, as you can imagine, and more times than not I am on the road travelling than within the Fortress' walls. However, I am not adverse to good company or conversation during the quiet times and would be happy to spend time learning more about you and your land." Ariarh directs a kind smile toward Arasmes ibn'Fayad. The man was certainly intriguing but a stranger nonetheless. Ariarh's mind was more than a little chaotic with the attentions of two males in one evening, especially following the news of Khrovin's departure from Saravale. The smile on Arasmes' face was warming her cheeks all the deeper. And behind the sparkle of his smile there was a vulnerability that she was drawn to, knowing it intimately as it was hard for her to show someone she cared or loved. Ariarh had still much to learn in regard to males and their attentions. Pretty compliments had come readily her way since she was young. Yet, she knew that words were easy to come by and intentions did not always match. For now, she was grateful for being amongst fine company and waylaying the ills of a broken heart.
Ariarh stopped her internal chatter and drew her sapphire eyes level with Arasmes'. "Mister Fayad, tell me something about yourself. And please, call me Ariarh. I am not used to, nor entirely comfortable with, all the formality of recent times."

Diplomacy:1d20+9
Ariarh will take on the 2nd quest to the ruins of the Temple of Erastil.
Moira merely smiles and shrugs at the question.
"The lords of Brevoy are notably - xenophobic? When it comes to most non-humans and people with little wealth. At least, most of them - the closer you get to the capital, the more interested they are in the trappings of status and covering themselves with the finery of rich clothes and food."
"Of course, the lords in Brevoy are mere students of the craft - the lords of Ustalav have perfected the art of looking down at the common folk. Yet perhaps they are not as dishonest? For they do not veil their contempt in the slightest, for those who they feel to be lesser then men."
She glances at the people at the feast, seeming to consider things.
"A person who truly believes in the glory of the gods - such a person must do what they can to bring forth the glory of the gods to the people. Erastil is a god of the community - a patron of the wild and the common people - bringing them together as a unit or a whole. If I am true to my faith - it is only right for me to walk among the people, even as Erastil might."
"So, when I found a land - between my old homeland and my adopted nation - that this land is filled with people looking for help - and hope for help - to grow a community into free people? Naturally, I decided to come and offer what aid I could."

"I could never understand the esteem granted to those of wealth based on the cut and fabric of someone's clothing or the food laden on their table. On the whole, I am sorry you were subjected to bigotry and persecution."
"Freedom is an ideal I would uphold time and again. That you were led to this place and this community is a gift, indeed. I am thankful the community has your services and loyalty. Erastil has certainly shown mercy and favour upon us and this community."

continued conversation with ariarh
Your words gladden and lift my heart Ariarh, though I must insist you call me Arasmes as well. I would be most appreciative if you could arrange such a meeting with Lord Winter. When you mention the compliment he says Of course beauty is fleeting, like most things in this world, it is the core of a person that is the most attractive and important. That is one of the things that makes your beauty all the more intense because I sense a strength of character and gentle kindness within you that permeates your being.
Noting her inevitable blush he continues with a smile But I see I have embarrassed you with my forwardness again. My apologies Ariarh. He gives a bow and continues on As for my homeland, I am from Katapesh far to the south of here though I have not been there in many years. Katapesh borders Osirian to the north and the Obari ocean to the east. It is a land of endless savannah, scorching desert, and abundant sun. We are a people that excel in trade and as such have some of the most extensive markets in the world. It is said that one can find anything in the markets of Katapesh if one has but the wherewithal to look. This includes people unfortunately as slavery is still a practice in Katapesh, though not as pervasive as in Osirian. I myself was a slave until 10 years ago when I escaped in order to live upon my own terms. No man, woman, or child should be owned by another. I was treated better than most because of my magical abilities that surfaced but it was still life in a gilded cage.
He looks at you again and says I do not know why I tell you all of this, I have not told many people these last 10 years. You seem to have a certain effect on me Ariarh.
He shrugs and says In any case, my master was a dealer in exotic drugs and used me in the process of delivering and negotiating with his suppliers and dealers. It is unfortunate that it took me so long to leave. I fear much damage was caused by my actions as his minion. I have tried to atone for my actions, forced upon me though they were I could have rebelled though it would cost me my life. That is why I came here actually. I seek to help build a society where things like that do not happen. I am most pleased and impressed to see the progress you have made in such a short time and can only hope that I may help in some small way to assist you.
Arasmes inclines his head to you in a show of respect. Now I have bored you with tales of myself, what about you fair Ariarh? What epic story does your life inspire?
Ariarh Kane
Conversation with Arasmes continued.
"You have not bored me, Arasmes." Ariarh's voice is soft yet still melodic with a faint trace of something indefinable. Her blush had spread with his flattering words of her inner beauty. Ariarh truly believed that inner beauty is what mattered and if one could reach that place, then one would discover a valuable gift.
"I cannot imagine an endless savanna 'neath an abundant sun, yet it sounds quite enchanting in a certain way. I do not have the words to tell you how sorry I am that you had been enslaved and treated as you were. Even a gilded cage has its barbed thorns. That you escaped, and have continued to survive, is testament not only to your skill but to your will to live. Freedom is a right for all living beings and if slavery were ever to find its feet at the borders of our lands, I would stem its advancement into these parts and our communities. Such a dominion can never be abided. Thank you for sharing the story of your enslavement with me." She is genuinely appreciative of his confidence.
Reflecting on Arasmes' dealings in exotic drugs, Ariarh ponders the notion of his assistance in regard to the dangerous Osirion potions and elixirs but holds her tongue for now until they are better acquainted.
"There is progress in Saravale and with development there are problems which arise and rear their head at precarious times. A varied society is what we set out to achieve, but with such variety there is the consideration of how we can create a peaceful group dynamic and maintain it as we move forward. With defined laws and structure perhaps we can move one step closer but I feel we need more than that." Ariarh's face takes on a concerned look, her brow is slightly crinkled in deep thought.
As Arasmes asks about her life before exploring the Greenbelt, she reddens at her lack-lustre story. "My tale is not strewn with the kinds of hardships you may have endured, Arasmes. I was raised on a large ranch in Artume, within the River Kingdoms, surrounded by lush green valleys and enduring mountains, rivers meandering their way through our land. My father is in trade - breeding, training and selling quality horses. His knowledge and skill is known throughout the land." You can hear pride in her voice as she speaks of her father. "Aye, our lands were often besieged by bandits and we spent much time protecting our lives and livelihood. As my parents only child, I was protected quite well. However, not all the folk of our community were as fortunate and lives were taken, important lives, and it set the course of my future, one could say." Ariarh grows silent after the last statement, but not a rude isolation but one where she reflects on people like Saarah and what they gave up so she may continue and pave a better world.
Arasmes ibn'Fayad
Arasmes looks at Ariarh and says The loss of friends and family is a weight that is carried with one forever. I like to think that it is the gods way of reminding us how important life and love is. Arasmes gives her a moment and then continues I am glad to hear you mention horses as they are a way of life in Katapesh. Over there in the stable is Thwayya, my companion for years. He is descended from one of An'Aldane's finest imperial long-tailed chargers named Flynamon. Flynamon means Fire Bringer in Kelish, so named for a shockingly red mane and tail. It was said that the stallion had the blood of an efreeti in it although I think that may be just something An'Aldane cooked up to boost the horses image and prestige. There is no doubt that he was a fine racer though. of course if your family was in the trade you would know of An'Aldane Zulran, after all he is the guildmaster of the Imperial Union of Breeders in Katapesh. As he pointed to Thwayya you can see the fine lines of the horse and though it is an obvious warhorse the fine lines and deep chest speaks of endurance and speed. Arasmes sighs and says I would love to take you there and show you the stables and fields he has. They are a wonder to behold. Just one of many of the wonders Katapesh possesses. Alas I cannot return lest I risk the Pactmaster's wrath. During my escape, I killed a guard and stole Thwayya. He bows his head in what looks like a prayer for the man he killed but you get the impression it is the theft of the horse that was the true crime he would be punished for.

SOrry, i'm pretty behind on this thread, and really don't have the time to catch up. I'll be able to next week, but i got finals this week and am gonna be dying till wednesday. -_-

Continued conversation with Arasmes.
"Thwayya." Running the name across her lips. "He's certainly a beautiful horse. Mayhap, when business does not intrude on our time, we can go riding together? I would show you my horse, Tal, and it has been a long time since I have ridden for pleasure's sake. I am sure Tal would not mind the freedom either."
Taking a moment to form her words, Ariarh speaks, "One day you shall return to your land without the threat of another's wrath. It would be wondrous to witness such a stable as An'Aldane Zulran's."
Brett Rowan
You hear some laughing not far from you. Looking up you see the happy face of Brett, his head is tipped back and he is roaring with mirth. Standing near him is the tall figure of Delain – who is smiling as well at some jest. There are several adults by, and some children as well, and Delain has called down his falcon who sits on his broad forearm. He is kneeling now, in the grass, holding the bird out and letting the bolder children stroke the back and shoulders of the bird.
Unlike a normal falcon, this one seems much more patient – larger, and far more intelligent. Its merciless gold eyes regard the children, but it does not bite them or claw at them, or even shriek and try to fly away. Delain is saying something to a little girl, and hands her with his good hand a small feather and lets her stroke the bird with it, even as Brett spies you, his eyes light up and he waves, then comes jogging over.
”Kae – how goes it? Fine party, what? You get a taste of those apple pies over there by the far table,” he says, pointing to a table a dozen feet away ”The best, Kae – the best! Put a bit of raisins in ‘em – don’t know where the lass got ‘em – but the raisins plumped up nice with the juices of the apples, hot damn! Here, brought you a slice – take it, don’t be shy, it’s the best,” he adds, forcing over a pie tin with a large slice of pie into Kae’s hands.
”Ry lass – how goes it! What, hobnobbing with some local color? Good lass!” he says with a grin.
”Me ol’ mate Donovan – er… Delain, now, as I should say – he be given a new name after ceremony, same as me, now that he be a Sword Scion of the Duke proper – and he be comed himself all the way to deliver his dad’s message to us. Remember when I sent it out during the winter? Reckon’d on it may be nice to rustle up some pals from back home that our country could call “mate” proper – and so I sent the letter – and when the snows up and melted – sure as sunrise, bam – he showed up,” Brett adds with a laugh, slapping his knee.
”Nay doubt ye know all about it, though – saw ye talking to him on it earlier – but I reckon ye want to get particulars set up proper – take his crew and him back to ol’ Alaric lad – see what he says about joining up all neat and square, if ye will. Then we get some new mates to get things all set up good and true,” he adds.
Looking at the other person who is talking to Ariarh, Brett turns his jolly gaze up at the robed man with dark glasses. Even as he is ready to turn on his near overwhelming charm on the touristy looking person, his face catches somewhat and his grin fades a bit.
”By Apsu… “ he mutters, looking hard at Arasmes, his voice a throaty whisper, staring hard at the traveler.
Mastering himself somewhat, he shakes his head quickly, as if dodging off some passing thought, and looks hard at the robed person. Scanning him up and down, Brett scratches his chin somewhat, looking at the person for a moment longer.
”Anyhow – whenever you and the Pieman there,” Brett adds, jerking his thumb at Kae ”be finished with what ye’re up to – why don’t we get a little business done. Oleg got a list o’ notes and so forth all fer us, as well as our total profits and such. Whenever ye two be done jawing here, we can talk shop a bit – and, if ye don’t mind, I’d like yer thoughts on me mate – what ye think o’ him, and what plans ye got on him, too.”
Turning to look at the robed man a moment longer, Brett gives him a queer look.
”Nice spectacles,” he says at last, then, turning on his heel, he wanders off.
As Brett leaves it strikes you as curious that the normal cheerful Holbyt seems to be giving this traveler what Brett himself may call ”The Bum’s Rush”. No grin, no “Afternoon, how’s the party treating you?” Nor even a polite introduction and request to share names.
This is very unlike Brett – and, very odd.
But, perhaps, you will be able to discuss that with him later, when you get the chance.
Ariarh Kane
Having watched Delain Esserian's interaction with the children and his falcon, Ariarh smiles to herself, observing his easy manner and silently commending him. It was a rather sweet moment.
Then noticing Brett's obvious rebuff of Arasmes ibn'Fayad, Ariarh files the encounter away for later reflection, noting to speak with Brett about it after their meeting.
Turning back to the male by her side,
"If you will excuse me, Arasmes, it would seem the Council has business to attend to this evening with Master Oleg. Thank you for the fine conversation. I do hope you enjoy the rest of your evening." With that, Ariarh inclines her head in elegant bow, a kindly smile on her face, and moves away toward Brett and the others, who are waiting for her to join them.
Arasmes ibn'Fayad
Arasmes replies to Brett, In perfect Hollbyt Thank you Councilman Rowan. I purchased them from the remarkable Professor Lorrimor while traveling through Ustalav./Hollbyt He smiles at Brett in return.
Turning back to Ariarh, Arasmes bows back and pauses a moment over Ariarh's hand though not being so forward as to kiss it, before standing up and smiling at her and speaking with conviction. It has been a great pleasure speaking with you Ariarh. I look forward to many like it in the near future. If you should wish for my help upon any matters please do not hesitate to ask. With that Arasmes begins mingling with the townsfolk.
Brett Rowan
Brett pauses and turns, looking at Arasmes as the visitor adressses him in his native tongue. His gaze is flat and he looks at the wanderer, saying nothing.
He widens his feet a bit, his head cocking slightly to the right - still saying nothing, and he seems to be relaxed, but you notice that his "relaxed" posture has him resting his hand on the butt of his pistol, easing it more comfortably.
As the man bows before the Aasimar and takes her hand, Brett's eyes flick instantly between Ariarh and this traveler from Katapesh - watching their interplay - but still, he seems to work hard at masking his expression.
For those who know Brett - a lack of expression or statement of emotion is almost a direct statement in itself. He is not one to mince words or mask his thoughts - prefering boisterous actions and loud declarations instead of hiding his feelings.
However, his best efforts cannot prevent his lip curling somewhat downward at Ariarh's comment to Arasmes - you don't know why Brett is acting this way - but he still says nothing.
Brett's eyes are merely following Arasmes as the person moves away to mingle, but he keeps his mouth shut - watching the person for a long time - scanning him, seeing what he is doing, and seeing where he is going or who he is talking to.
Still Brett says nothing, but as Arasmes moves out of view he turns away again - walking off toward Oleg's compound. He is not walking in a relaxed manner at this point, or waiting around - rather, he's walking fast and with purpose.
And again - you don't know why... Though you do know that it is very out of character for him to behave this way.
Ariarh Kane
Ariarh matches Brett's fast pace, which is easier with her longer legs.
She moves beside him and in a discreet voice, looks down and asks, "Are you going to tell me what that was all about?" Ariarh's alluding to the looks and defensive stand with the newcomer, Arasmes ibn'Fayad.

She moves beside him and in a discreet voice, looks down and asks, "Are you going to tell me what that was all about?" Ariarh's alluding to the looks and defensive stand with the newcomer, Arasmes ibn'Fayad.
Brett glances up at Ariarh, and continues to walk - saying nothing for a moment, heading over to Oleg's compound, gathering up the rotund mayor with his eye - even as Oleg is finishing a large tankard of ale, and then prepares to move over to the compound after you both.
He starts to say something, then pauses, then continues after a moment - his tone is harsh and his voice lacking the usual bounce.
"Ye know, when I was a lad I spent a lot o' time in Cheliax, right? Not a nice place, Cheliax - land o' evil folk, them that follow demons and such - hell, ask Delian - that's how I found him, captured by Chelish slavers. Busted the lad free and got him home to his folks - that's how come we be mates," he adds flatly.
This story is not unheard of - you know something Brett's background and are wondering what it has to do with a pleasent wanderer from Katapesh.
He pauses a moment and turns back, looking at Arasmes with a frown.
"There's an old saying about lads like him in my language. Not easy to translate - but in the Common lingo ye may translate it best as - That guy... I don't know about that guy."
Brett turns to look up at Ariarh with a frown on his normal jovial face.
"But that just be my thinking - ye do as ye please - something don't sit right with me about him is all - and it reminds me too much o' home - and by that I mean Cheliax - not the place I be making my home now, if you understand me," he adds.
Then, he turns and strides away again to the compound even as Oleg comes hurrying up.
Dain GM
Following you both into the compound Oleg seems rather pleased with his success at the party. Svetlana is outside chatting with other lasses and Drake is off on personal errands - attending to the needs of young Dasha - Brett and Ariarh have moved forward and now eager to get comfortable and hear what the man has to say.
Oleg pours drinks for all - you notice at this time - perhaps the first time since you've met him - Brett doesn't touch the food or drink, instead fidgeting with his pipe.
Spreading out a large list of documents, notes, charts and sheets on the table, Oleg places some stones on the paper and weighs them down, then takes out a piece of slate and a thick chunk of sharpened chalk.
Of the three council members, only Ka'etil is not around - no doubt on an errand of some importance with some local wenches. No matter - you'll be sure to share the information with him as soon as you get a chance.
"Now - calculated variations with compounded nuances - added to these figures some basic missives, and such..." he mutters to himself.
"Ah - well, here's the thing; at this time we have roughly 300 families with an average family size of four - roughly 1,200 citizens in my, er... that is to say... in the village."
"An average household income is - for now; as we have only basic tradesmen and trappers, and no real shopkeepers and such, except owned by the crown - that is to say, the council, and don't formally generate any revenue yet because they're unable to at this time, as all costs are reinvested into the shop's capital - well; in any case..."
"A formal family of four then earns roughly... hmmm... let's see... gold pieces per week on average - no wait, half that - plus half again for part time labour of mothers and young folk... Multiplied by 300 families... Add in bonus for good economical leadership, namely me - and the advantages a Republic affords - hmm... yes, yes... Ah! This translates roughly to about 450 gold pieces a week - at four weeks a month for about... 1,800 gold pieces!"
He looks up with a wide grin.
"With standard ten percent taxes on household earnings we're generally looking at a net of... with modest income from shop and so forth - 200 gold pieces a month! Naturally, as head of the council you'll be taking your cut of the taxes - I'm guessing ten percent of all communities? Which should afford you..." he pauses and pulls out a strong box and begins to count slowly and methodically.
"Very good! Here - this month's taxes - 20 gold pieces! Naturally we'll need roughly half of that for building expenses, after taxes I should think - for a total of 800 gold pieces for Building Points."
"Of course - labour has afforded us some decent earnings in raw material - naturally we've done fairly well - if you calculated raw materials for building alone - I should think that this town has earned - in raw materials, thanks to the foresters, carpenters and so forth - roughly 12,000 gold pieces in raw materials."
Roughly 3 BP
"Naturally, of course, these materials are useless as a gold commodity, even fairly useless for trade goods - but they certainly afford us ample opportunity to expand the village," he adds with a warm smile.
Brett glances down at the table and the massive ammount of notes.
"Well... 20 gold pieces..." he says with a sigh.
"Not quite what I was hoping for, Oleg..." he adds dryly.
"But, master Brett," Oleg adds with a protest, holdng up his hands "This is not as bad as you seem to think - yes, it is a very small ammount - but the largest portion of our capital is translated into converting basic necessities into trade buildings. Er, that is to say - we spend most of our coin on resources to make usefull buildings. Yes, it's not as handy as having a bunch of loose cash in the treasury - but in a few months, perhaps a year or so - we'll have quite a large village - possibly a town. By the time we organize taxes in a year, or even six months - why - I should think that our monthly income will have gone up by ten times at least! Possibly more - depending on certain variables external from the village's income. But, then again - we can't plan for such things all in a day," he adds with a slightly embarressed shrug.
Brett sighs as he lifts the 20 coins up and down - letting the pieces clink together mournfully. He looks up at Ariarh.
"Well - let's just hope that Alaric lad will be getting some good investments while we're gone - I was hoping this would do us better - but then again? I dunno..." he mutters with a shake of his head, looking at Ariarh and wondering what she'll have to say at their findings.

You feel a gentle prodding on your back, and turn around.
Looking up from the ground is a smallish figure - his wrists are wrapped with heavy leather bands and his slanted yellow eyes grin up at you from a greenish face.
It is a goblin! Despite his presence you see no one in town is bothered by him or says anything to him - he seems generally accepted by the people here.
He is holding a large mug, and you shudder to think what he is drinking from. He continues to watch you, smiling in (what you hope) is a warm way - his crooked teeth poking upwards from his yellow lips.
"Oye! Outsider - how ye like the town? Good food - good drink - good women, too, eh?" he says the last, watching you pleasently.
"What be yer name - I be called Gragakh!"
"Ye want drink," he asks, offering the cup "It be old family recipe - we call "bloodwine!" It be very good - taste very good with Gagh - Gagh be good food for warrior - but best if eat raw. Bloodwine good too, very strong drink - you try!" he says offering the cup cheerfully.
Gragakh nods his head again, as if thinking something, and continues to watch you, smiling happily, no matter what you do.

Ariarh respectfully forgoes the drink, instead sitting silently and listening to Master Oleg go through the village's accounts and percentages. The Council's percentage roughly equated to 1 per cent of the entire monthly income. Twenty gold pieces did not seem overly much and she wondered what Alaric would say when they returned with the current sum.
Ariarh bestows upon Oleg Leveton a kind smile.
"Your village is still growing, we do not contest this. The people here are hardworking as is your Elder Council. Our Council would not see the community bankrupt by demanding a greater percentage of the taxes, especially for the time being. As you can imagine, Master Oleg, Saravale is also growing and with an expanding populace we will need to look at efficiency of coin, as well as resources. You mentioned that you foresee that six months to a year from now that the village's monthly income will be vastly increased and the figure may be impacted for the betterment by certain external variables. What would you say are these variables? I ask because such factors may in turn affect the ruling Council and we will need to prepare our own resources and taxes accordingly."
