Sorry for my absence for a few days - I had a gallery showing this weekend and had to attend all three days

Fionn looks around along with the others, spots the hole in the ceiling and nods in agreement with Taldor's assessment. (not rolling perception since that's been done already by others)

She does takes some time to stand before the winged statue of a woman. Was this meant to symbolize the Dawnflower. I've seen statues of Sarenrae before, always a strong woman, usually with a scimitar and a mane of dancing flame... perhaps this is how she is depicted here in the far south?

"Is there more to search that we've missed? Another level perhaps? anything up... or down even? Most holy places to Sarenrae that I'm used to are open to the sky and the sun's light, so this place with a closed roof surprises me, but perhaps an open roof isn't practical in such a hot land?"

Grand Lodge

"Aye, sandstorms are terrible without a roof" After a second, Taldor takes his hammer out and starts rapping it on the ground, listening for hollow spots "If anytin was added it'd be underground"

Khatijah chuckles at Arizhel's statement.

"I'm afraid that we were asked to clear out the temple. if there are room underground, then underground we go."

Arizhel mutters a bit under her breath, "Yes, but we still get to pick the order of the clearing, so I hope we can do up before down?"

Taldor takes a second then lightly says "Ye don't have ta go underground if ye dont want ta, it's meh specialty anyways..."

Female Human Fighter 1 (HP: 9/16 NL:2 AC 16/11/15: F +4, R +1, W+2, Per:+1, Init: +1)

Again Khatijah chuckles, "Why do the thing you love before the thing you hate? If you get done the unpleasant tasks first, then you have something to look forward to in the more pleasant ones. If you do the pleasant ones first, then you don't enjoy it as much because you are dreading the unpleasant ones that are coming."

At Taldor's words, she says, "And I can go with him, or stay here, which ever you feel is best."

Human Tattooed Sorcerer (Orc Bloodline) 4 (Init +3 / F +1 R +2 W +2 / Perc. +0 / AC 12 / HP 16 / CMD 10)

Malak seems like he is tiring somewhat after all the bursts of flame he let loose. I am willing to go wherever you all wish but I am having trouble keeping my focus and concentration. The energy required to release such blasts are unfortunately limited. I could probably summon the requisite energy once more before I must rest in order to use any but the most basic of magics.

Female Halfling Master Summoner 2 | HP:14/14 AC:13 touch 13 flat footed 11 F: +2 R: +3 W: +3 Per:+2, Init:+2

"Well then! Lets finish up with the above ground portion of the temple, and have a nice dinner, a good rest, and worry about the rest tomorrow!" Arizhel seems genuinely enthused by the concept of staying above ground for another day.

Grand Lodge

Taldor thinks for a moment, then grunts his approval "Sometimes yer surprised by how much trouble underground searching can cause, we're gonna wanna be at full strength"

A12. The brightly painted walls of this small chapel, probably meant
for personal prayer and reflection, stand out as unusually garish
for the otherwise reserved architecture notable elsewhere in
the monastery. On the walls, numerous rectangular wooden
plates traced in gold filigree depict a strapping warrior battling
creatures of fire, riding a chariot on the wind, and engaging
in other acts of noble heroism. It is the same figure depicted
elsewhere in the monastery, but the sheer number of images
here suggest that this shrine was especially important to the
clerics who honored him as a saint of Sarenrae. Perhaps a
quarter of the gold plates have been pried away or hacked apart
by long-absent vandals.
Opposite the door, dominating a section of the north wall,
stands a man-sized statue of the warrior, its face marred by what
look like numerous blows from an axe. The statue holds both hands
in front of him, bent at the elbow, palms up, as if expecting an
offering. Several deep rents from similar axe blows make it clear
that someone tried to hack the arms from the statue decades ago,
but was unable to do so.

...and perception checks please.

2 traits from any source. 1 campaign trait.
All classes are open. And all archetypes.
Use te board roller for gold.
Pathfinder materials only. No 3PP or 3.5.
Hero Points will be used.

fluffy stuff.
I expect backgrounds for characters and will weed through them for conflicts and character directions

social contract stuff
I am busy IRL but feel as though I can contribute somewhat to the hobby as I get older. My homebrew needs some work so I will run this. Because I am busy I will try and post daily on monday through thursday and at least once friday through saturday. I expect the same from the players

"Tolus, reporting for your pleasure, my liege."

As mentioned in the original thread, I would very much like to sign up and cut my teeth on this one. I would like to play as a Bard, either a human or an aasimar, of a generally heroic persuasion. The social contract stuff looks just right for me.

social contract is fine for me as well... My time is mostly free and I can post as frequently as game flow requires on most days.

Just so you all know, I am claiming 'Finding Haleen' as my campaign trait - it says if others claim teh same trait, they need to be my character's sibling... I am a gnome... just an fyi for y'all.

Are two instances of Bardic Performance stackable or useful? My archetype ( deadly courtesan ) provides some bardic ability as well.

I'm going for the Earning Your Freedom trait. :)

Lantern Lodge

you would be adopted finn. Haleen is already stated out and is Human.

I could be wrong but the same types of bonuses do not stack.

well it said Haleen could be a family friend and not necessarily a relative, is that alright then?

Working on a concept right now. I note that you do not specify HP method, though you randomly determine starting money and use point buy for attributes. Barring further instructions, I will assume max HP at 1st level

I'm working on Mas'ud, an Ifirt Bard (Arcane Duelist) with the Finding Haleen Trait, BTW. I have to work on the background write-up, spell selection, and gear (at a minimum) before the HP answer might actually matter.

Hmm, a bard would mean that both of us have bardic inspires. I'll grant that yours is better mechanically, though.

And another bardic character enters the fray, lol.

It appears there is a great desire to play a Bardic character in this AP. Interesting. I'll finish working on the current concept, and then consider whether to offer a different character concept instead.

Maybe I'll go all Looney Tunes? "Hussan CHOP!"

Edit:

Multiple instances of the same Bardic Song in play at the same time do NOT stack, no. But multiple Bards to perform songs mean far more extended bonuses!

I have a Diabolist (because I like the concept of summoning demons) and a Paladin archer in mind, but, if I may be perfectly honest, this character is much more developed so I would rather keep him if possible.

3 bards and a cleric? we're a little short on melee aren't we? I'm not a melee cleric btw.

Lantern Lodge

a bard/paladin would make an awesome dragon disciple

I have one in a current campaign it works quite

Mas'ud

Description:

Standing only slightly taller than most men, the flickering, apparently literally flaming hair, flares above the heads of any men around this figure from myth. The bone horns on his brow partially obscure the base of his hair, curving generally upwards and out, away from his face, forming a slight "s" shape, but extending only about six inches from his forehead. His build is slighter than those same stories would suggest, but his skin reflects the light as though it were polished brass, as is common in so many of those same stories.

His movements also seem to flicker like his hair, but direct observation shows no unexpected, random movement. Instead there is a simple , flowing grace that seems to consume the space around him.

Like a bad pun, his face seems alight with expression. It flickers from curiosity, to warm greeting, to angry to obvious pleasure in a mercurial fashion, each obviously relating to how others around him respond to his presence.

About Mas'ud:
Background:

Mas'ud's earliest memories are of sitting in the dirt in front of a story-teller, listening to the embellished tales of legend that he now knows so well. Growing up so obviously different from everyone around him, without parents to protect him, taught the child not to care about those who refused to care for him. He doesn't remember meeting Haleen, but he also doesn't remember life without her, at least, not until recently.

Whether from pity or honest concern for the younger child, Haleen tried to protect Mas'ud from the worst of the city around them. Her, he learned to love. She filled the emotional position in his life that a mother should, even though she was only a handful of years older.

like so many other children of the street, Mas'ud wasn't fed well enough to become a physical powerhouse, but his form and the old stories still made him seem threatening to many. Since you have to work with what you have, Mas'ud began learning to work with the thugs on the streets, even as he continued spending all of the time that he could listening to the old stories and learning them as best he could.

Between them, Maruk al Diya and Haleen convinced the young ifrit that his appearance could be a benefit for a story-teller in the old tradition, and Mas'ud was formally apprenticed to Maruk al Diya. During this period, Mas'ud went out of his way to stay in touch with Haleen, trying to share his triumphs with her, to win her approval, and to remind himself that she was still there and still actually cared about him.

One such visit found Haleen gone, only a note left behind telling Mas'ud to continue his life without her, to simply let her slip into history with all of the other nobodies of history. The problem being, of course, that to Mas'ud, Haleen could never be a nobody. The network of information shared by the story tellers eventually told Mas'ud that Haleen was headed to the old village of Kelmarane. The young story teller found himself unable to resist his need to see to Haleen's safety, and has begun trying to find a way that he might get himself to this abandoned town.

[Yes, I recognize the above will need to be folded in with another story if two characters with Finding Haleen are chosen. Nature of the game.]

Personality/Alignment:
Mas'ud is really very selfish. What matters to him is the affect of things on him, those that he cares about and the things that he cares about. Right now, those things are summarized as Mas'ud, Haleen, Maruk al Diya, history, and storytelling. [Another PC with the Finding Haleen trait could easily be added to that list.] He is not, however, grossly foolish. There are far too many things in the world which will destroy him out of hand if he moves without help.

His experience and growth as a story teller has given him a far more pleasant and cooperative appearance than his inherent selfishness might suggest. He doesn't dislike strangers or see them as disposable toys, he just sees them as selfishly working against his interests in support of their own. he doesn't hold that against them, but he certainly doesn't see that as cause to support and assist them, either. As the party moves through the story, working together for different personal motivations early on, Mas'ud should grow to trust the rest of the party no to out-right betray his trust, which will allow bonds to form.

I'm interpreting his alignment as Neutral with Chaotic tendancies.

Goals/Vision:

Obviously, Mas'uds current goal is to save Haleen. That's not what this area was meant for. I'm looking at building Mas'ud towards the Duelist PrC, though I'm not hard-wired to said end. I will have to see how the story goes, actually. If things don't redirect his development, heading towards Duelist will have the next few Feat selections be: Lingering Performance, Dodge and Mobility. Frankly, a 15 point build makes Duelist mechanically LESS appealing, since there just aren't enough attribute points to be big everywhere the PrC wants a character to be big. <shrug> As I said, the story will determine how quickly or harshly I desert that idea far more than the mechanics will.

Bio:

I was captured and enslaved young. Therefore I was removed from Vishyanka society, their Culture, and their traditions in general. I grew up a slave in the homes of several wealthy merchant lords. I was not a labor slave and was spared some of those early traumas. I was a house slave and learned all the mannerisms and niceties of the upper classes. I could behave and strut and bow like any lord (indeed, I was required to so as to bring no shame by misbehavior), but I was still a slave.

As I grew, I learned to palm things, lie convincingly, and generally swindle my masters without trouble. I knew the laws, and the punishments for thievery, but in my youth I could not have cared less. Thankfully I was never caught, nor was I suspected. I was an obedient slave and naturally skilled in letting people see what they wanted to see.

My first taste of cruelty was in my late teens. I was sold to a well-seeming merchant and transferred to his house in the inner city. There I was not a slave. I was an animal. Property in the basest sense. I was lashed at his whim, went about naked, and was forced into a small cage so he could show off his "Snake-man" to his fat noble friends. I nearly died twice from neglect and saw several other rare and exotic species expire under his inattentive authority.

Finally, he died. Some say his heart gave out. There was much head shaking as he was in his prime and hearty. I suspected it was a different heart condition: He didn't have one.

He had no heirs, and had not appointed one, so myself and my fellows were transferred to the City's service. I had taken enough. When the opportunity came to earn my freedom, I grabbed at the chance.

I do not blame this experience on the institution of slavery. I blame the Master, not the system. I hold slavery as a viable and profitable business practice. I even aspire to purchase slaves of my own one day. In the houses of my childhood I wanted for nothing and had the security of food and shelter. If I were not sold and abused I could be one of the most prized and sought after specimens of any collector of exotic humanoids, maybe even finding a place in a Pact Master's house one day. My early masters were well meaning and recognized me as sentient. I had value because of my rarity and exotic nature as Vishyanka. I imagine that I would be a benevolent and worthy master because I have experienced cruelty and brutality. I would never visit that on an obedient and well mannered slave.

Personality/Appearance:

Tolus is a striking figure. Arrayed in complex, well-fitted robes, he is ever and always composed and elegant. His behavior is always courtly and becoming his station.

His serpentine skin is a wash of dark and light green scales that shine ever so slightly in the sunlight and seem to shift in color from almost verdant to emerald to pale green. After his skin, his golden serpentine eyes grab at you and seem to refuse to let your gaze wander. Those eyes invite you, but invite you to what exactly, you cannot say.

His posture and mannerisms radiate a respect for all around him, while, somehow, managing to hold his dignity in tact. Anyone familiar with the methods of the upper ranks of society will recognize this behavior as the mark of a well bred and behaved slave. His movements are always graceful, almost otherworldly.

If you notice anything wrong, please tell me and I will alter it in my profile for game use.
Tolus is a face/poison user character. His combat damage will be low, but I plan to augment his combat with poisons for all manner of interesting effects.

Well, looking back at what I submitted earlier, that's embarrassing. I failed to copy over my spell selections and last language slot choice.

My apologies.

The Intelligence bonus language of choice should effectively be Mas'ud's native tongue: Kelish. Unless I just really misunderstand where this AP is set . . ..

His spells known should be listed as:

0: Detect Magic, Mending, Prestidigitation, Unwitting Ally
1: Cure light Wounds, Touch of Gracelessness

Again, my apology for failing to include this information in the previous post.

i would like to submit my dwarf fighter Taldor Rockheels. he's a typical dwarven fighter, and specializes in defense (go stalwart defender if we get that far). enjoys a good drink, a good brawl, and tends to grumble about elves and all magic in general (he's a bit better about divine). prays to Torag, and spends most of combat time soaking damage for everyone else. isn't big into books or big philosophical discussions, but a good comrade to have by your side.

probably take the armor master or tower shield specialist archetypes. he's gonna b hard to knock down.

i'd love the DM and current players thoughts on this idea. i'll work on creating the character tonight

In my opinion, you should throw a spin on him character wise for the PbP. The mechanics aren't as important as an interesting character because of the nature of the medium. There will be a lot of talk and less fighting. Even the fighting that does happen will have description drive the excitement of battle rather than the clatter of dice. So I say tweak him a bit.

Disclaimer: this is my first PbP Adventure Path so everything I'm saying is based on Thread lurking. :P

ok a few quick notes on everyone from a glance: Also all first level hit points are maxed. You will roll for each additional level. I will give final approval that the character is ready after the deadline is up.

JAFO - Fionnbharanel -F Gnome Theologian Cleric of Sarenrae
-what feats have you selected? I have not seen the roll for your starting gold?

Choon - Talos the Serpent Servant - M Vishkanya Deadly Courtesan Rogue
-HP are maxed on first level. Roll for your gold to buy the equipment

luspr - human or aasimar? bard?

hustonj - Mus'ad - M? Ifrit Arcane Duelist Bard
-Kelish is one of the dialects you might encounter.

CampinCarl9127 - Taldor Rockheels - M Dwarf Fighter?
-if you havent had a chance to check out the Foehammer archetype from the ARG you might want to check it out. It's pretty B.A.

HP - Will change on the profile

I rolled for gold under gear -> cash. Rolled a 17 for 170 total

starting gold x 10: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 5, 2) = 14

Couldn't get more average if I tried... lol

Oh and her starting feat is 'selective channeling'

Interested, and working on a barbarian.

Got an idea for a fighter.

Yes, male. I made frequent use of the male pronoun in the writing within the submission, so I thought it was obvious.

Quote:

Check. Thank you.

So, I joked about doing "Hassan chop" as a second submission, but I've been looking at trying to build something based on that Looney Tunes character. Two-Handed, Weapon Master and Unbreakable archetypes all seem reasonable for the character . . ..

Well, Weapon Master doesn't really fit the character's portrayal, but it doesn't contradict it, either. Two-Handed is how Hassan fought. Constantly. Unbreakable because it seemed like nothing could drop Hassan, ever. Bugs always had to outsmart him (which was rarely difficult).

Unbreakable is so popular from what I've seen on the boards, though, that I am less inclined to consider using it!

I like less used character races/classes too. Thus the Vishkanya. :)

no problem, working on interesting spins now. and don't worry about a fighter and roleplaying, even though i wont be making a lot of diplomacy/bluff/intimidate rolls, i'll definitely make him an interesting character to talk to

Background:
Spoiler:

When Haleen was a young girl, she found a squalling baby outside the city walls. She brought Hadassah home, and conviced her mother that she should be allowed to raise the baby foundling. Half mother, half older sister, Haleen always kept Hadassah safe. Although on occasion she also cost Hadassah jobs and opportunities, Hadassah never begrudged Haleen any of her excentricities. Haleen's at times outrageous conduct has made Hadassah who she is today. In part due to her need for companionship, and partly because of the great encouragement from Haleen, Hadassah followed her heart to become a master summoner.

Hadassah is convinced that Haleen has been kidnapped and is bing held against her will.

Lol, am I the only guy not looking for Haleen? I'm going to end up joining in on a family outing. :P

Full disclosure: I don't really blame everyone for taking it. It's pretty nice. Will just be interesting if I accidentally put her to sleep with some of my venom.

@tolus

It was the one that would most mesh with the preconcieved background for Hadassah, although I was mightily tempted by the reclaiming your roots trait....

No complaint here, just thought it amusing is all.

"No promises on the poisoning thing though..." Tolus's snake-like mouth breaks into a mischievous grin. You can't help but notice slightly green saliva oozing down his fang-like front teeth.

Sense Motive DC 10:
Just kidding

Sense Motive DC 15:
Maybe not so kidding after all. :)

Late, will post character tomorrow.

"That ain't no snake, now this... this is a snake" laughs Hadassah gesturing at Persephone, her Eidolon.

Hadassah wrote:

Tolus, looking slightly taken aback, smiles and the gnome and renders a courtly bow appropriate to one of slightly higher social standing. "My lady is correct on all points. I am no snake, and I would never try to compare to such a fine beast as yours, of course" Not knowing her station, Tolus automatically assumes she is higher on the social ladder than he is. The response is obviously intended to be polite, but not quite deferential.

Tolus - I think Hadassah is a halfling, not a gnome - Fionn is a gnome. btw - Hadassah, your character sheet says you are a male halfling, but your picture is female and so is the name Hadassah - is that something that needs correction on your sheet? Just bringing it up so you can fix it if nec.

perhaps you guys need a good wizard? probably my strongest class

Apologies if I'm wrong, thought she (he?) was a gnome. Pre-RPing is good to get these things ironed out so we don't do that in the RP-proper. :)

the character sheet said halfling - maybe it's been changed since then? we are after all still all in the formative stages of character creation.

Ah, you're the female gnome! I knew I saw one somewhere. ok. maybe he is a halfling after all. :)

Smiles charmingly :)

Tolus returns the smile (sans venom) with grace and renders a bow he would use for honored guests of his master. "Not wasted, sir. Not entirely comprehended, yet not wasted."

While Tolus didn't understand every word the elf said, he clearly meant to show his intellectual dominance, and Tolus is well aware of what a display of venom does to the stomachs of most people. He has nursed bruises earned for such displays in the past.

good thing Fionn gave up the gnome 'hatred' of reptilians for a different racial trait - what with Tolus and the eidolon in the party lol.

"Hmm, a little odder than most, but i spend half my days in the presence of devils. They oddly make for good debaters"

Katijah's stats

I'm running out of juice on my laptop, so I'll have to post the fleshed out background later, but for now, she was a pitfighter that changed hands numerous times. She's young, only 16, but she's been fighting since she was 12. After her last owner lost a massive amount of money betting against her, she was sold to pay his debts and now has an opportunity to choose her own destiny.

Personality wise, well I'm still working on it, but I do have an idea of it. She's laconic, to the point of being terse. She prefers the simple direct method of dealing with a problem, but she doesn't have any qualms about doing so with a bit of flair. She suffers from a bit of paranoia, and consequently carries an absurd number of knives on her as a back up to her scimitar and cestus. She uses a quarterstaff as a walking stick, mainly because she's always armed, even if it appears otherwise.

Her low charisma comes from her laconic ways and having most of her social interactions be related to fighting. She hasn't had a chance to learn many skills and doesn't put much stock in learning from books and scrolls, after having fought a wizard or two.

Okay that's more than I thought, but I'll have more later.
