Kalaman will also take a swing at the giant lizard, hoping to finish it before the wisp appears,
attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
damage: 1d10 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
And (maybe) hits the giant lizard with a massive blow from his black blade.

DM Talomyr - Kingmaker |

Celebeth tries to get by the blood caiman but stays close enough for the massive reptile to snap at her, latching on to the half-elf with powerful jaws.
Celebeth takes 12 damage
Almost as quickly as the caiman's jaws clamp down on Celebeth's leg, Tove's arrow sinks into the creature's neck and Rhiannon finds a weak point in its scaly hide, ending the creature's life in a nearly instant assault.
Meanwhile in the hut, Azen's argument - particularly when combined with the roars of Vesket outside - proves to be effective. The three warriors drop their weapons and go outside the hut to grovel for forgiveness from their once and future chief.
Vesket, for his part, is surprisingly merciful. Whether that is due to any true quality of mercy, or simple realization that most of his tribe is dead already, it is hard to say.
Still, there is no sign of the Wisp.
AoO: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Party is up.

Celebeth Quinciel |

Celebeth lets out a grunt as the huge caiman brings its jaws down on her trouser leg, nearly snapping her shin off but missing by juuuust this much. Damaged but not downed! She grumbles as she has to wiggle and tear her trouser leg to get it out of the death-frozen jaws of the beast.
Stumbling back to her feet in haste, she notes that the fighting is mostly over.
"I wonder where that blasted wisp went?" she says. "Maybe it's off doing... eeevil things."
Krezzik stops playing his drum.

Azen |

Azen walks further into the back room of the leader's hut. Where was that skull that used to have the wisp in it?

taking in a relieved breath as she feels the last of her wounds healed by Tove's channeling, Rhiannon makes her way to the hut, to support Azen, should anything nasty lie in wait.

Kalaman Mar |

Kalaman will move toward the middle of the village and wait to ready a magic missle should the wisp show itself

DM Talomyr - Kingmaker |

Tove issues a burst of energy to heal her companions, while Garethane climbs the hut - hoping to get a better view/line of sight on the Wisp, but to no avail.
Rhiannon, Kalman, Celebeth, and the lizardfolk gather outside of the hut, waiting for the Wisp to make its appearance.
Meanwhile, Azen goes deeper into the hut structure. Arriving in the extra chamber she sees the carved skull the wisp rose out of the last time she was here. Looking around she does not see the creature, but then begins to feel the hair on the back of her neck raise just before a massive bolt of electricity courses through her body. Staggering, she turns to find herself face to face with Shishtak.
Azen, take 14 electricity damage
Attack: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (11) + 18 = 29
Damage: 2d8 ⇒ (8, 6) = 14
The party is up!

Azen |

Azen screams... no, I mean SCREAMS, using every ounce of her vocal talent, trying to alert the party to the danger in case she can't get her spell off.
She tries to tumble backwards without getting attacked, so she can cast.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24
Then she casts Glitterdust.
Not sure if wisps can be blinded, but if they can, it gets a DC 15 Will Save to avoid blinding. The visible outline can't be avoided, but it will only last 6 rounds.

DM Talomyr - Kingmaker |

Azen just manages to dance out of the way of another electrified tendril, and cast her spell. Shimmering dust fills the area, settling over the will o wisp. All hear a frustrated, unearthly scream come from the creature.
Will DC 15: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12 Well, so much for this fight.

Celebeth Quinciel |

Hearing Azen's shriek, Celebeth races to her sister's side, and spots the now-visible wisp.
"How'd I miss that with my see invisibility spell?" she ruminates. "Doesn't matter! This is for my sister!" she shouts.
Magic missile damage: 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (4, 4, 3) + 3 = 14

DM Talomyr - Kingmaker |

"How'd I miss that with my see invisibility spell?" she ruminates. "Doesn't matter! This is for my sister!" she shouts.
Because see invisibility doesn't let you see through walls. ;)
Racing into the hut, Celebeth sees the outlined wisp before hammering it with magical missiles.

Kalaman Mar |

Kalaman moves up and also casts a magic missle right after celebeth casts hers, blasting it with more missles
magic missle: 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (1, 4, 3) + 3 = 11

Garethane Seregon |

With his keen Elven senses primed for the smallest hint of an invisible predator, he almost falls off the roof, completely startled by the scream coming from inside the hut. But his training and focus comes into play as he monkeys his way down the side of the hut and sprints to a location in which he can see the now sparkly wisp.
Climb, FF: 1d20 + 6 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 6 + 4 = 29

Tove Hellstrom |

Tove turns and runs toward the sound of Azen's scream.
Double move to get inside. Can someone remind me, did we buy a wand for each of us? I thought that was the plan but I can't find it confirmed anywhere.

The wisp is far easier to hit with conventional means now that it is outlined by glitterdust and currently blind. AC went from ridiculous to garbage.

Dashing into the room, Rhiannon attempts to skewer the glittering ball of malice.

DM Talomyr - Kingmaker |

Vesket squeezes his way into the increasingly crowded chamber, leaving his soldiers outside to guard over the surrendered warriors.
The wisp reaches out for the closest assailant but fails to land the blow - likely due to its current blindness.
Shaking its head, it seems to clear the worst of the dust from its eyes.

Miss Chance (low misses): 1d100 ⇒ 12
Will Save DC 15: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30
Party is up. Wisp is no longer blind, so its AC is back to full strength, but still quite visible due to the glitterdust spell (9 rounds remaining)

Rhiannon Wyngarde |

Bringing her massive blade level with her eyes, Rhiannon launches a deadly thrust, meant to skewer the wisp before it could strike again.
+1 Estoc/Bless: 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 10 + 1 = 26
Piercing/Magic/ Bless: 2d4 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (2, 1) + 3 + 1 = 7

Azen |

I think that was the initial plan, Tove, but he didn't have that many wands, and so we just got what he had... which as I remember was one. But that's my faulty memory speaking. Didn't go back to find the post.
Azen starts singing, hoping to give everyone the courage to fight this horrible thing before it could fade back to invisibility.
+2 attack and damage from inspire courage (Note that the bonus on attack is a competence bonus, so it stacks with Bless, which is a morale bonus.) There is also +2 on saving throws against charm and fear effects if it comes up, but that is a morale bonus as well, and would not stack.
She also steps in across from Rhiannon, hoping to flank the thing and make it easier to hit as well.
She swings at it.
Attack (Cold Iron Morningstar): 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 6 + 1 + 2 + 2 = 20 (bless, inspire courage, flank)
Piercing, Bludgeoning, Cold Iron Damage: 1d8 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 2 = 6 (inspire)
Likely a miss, but hopefully the bonuses will help Rhiannon hit it again.

Tove Hellstrom |

Grateful to finally be able to see the troublesome wisp, Tove raises her bow and looses an arrow of cold iron toward the thing.

Now that it has regained its vision, the wisp is proving far more difficult to strike as Rhiannon, Azen, and Tove all miss their strikes.
Celebeth, Garethane, and Kalaman are up.

Kalaman will reach into his pack and produces a bottle of oil that he smears on his weapon, the edge of which seems to become sharper and more wicked.

Garethane Seregon |

The elf casts Hunter's Eye on the Wisp to make sure it doesn't somehow get away. He switches Feral Focus to the Stag to aid his run past the Wisp, willing to draw an attack of opportunity to set up his next attacks. As he moves, he pulls out his bow.

DM Talomyr - Kingmaker |

Celebeth blasts the glowing orb again with another barrage of magical bolts. Kalaman prepares his weapon to strike at the creature, while Garethane moves to a more advantageous position, drawing a swipe of an electrified tendril as he does so.
Garethane takes 11 damage.
Vesket moves to attack, missing badly as the tips of his trident dig into the mud ceiling of the hut.
Knowing that it has very little choice but to fight for its life, the Wisp zaps Rhiannon as it tries futilely to open a path for escape.
Rhiannon takes 8 damage.

This is so strange. I posted earlier and now it is gone. The first time was much wordier, but here is a summary:
Azen swings again.

Boom! Kalaman drops the mic. And the hammer.

DM Talomyr - Kingmaker |

Celebeth blasts the wisp with another barrage of magic missiles.
The party, as a whole is quickly becoming demoralized - despite Tove's healing - as Azen, Rhiannon, and Garethane all fail to land a blow on the glowing menace.
Then the tide turned as Kalaman's blade sliced clean through the creature. The wisp's glow begins to fade as the creature falls to the ground dead.
Combat over.

Celebeth wavers for a moment, then shouts, "YES! That's! What! You! Get!"
Krezzik rolls a drumbeat on his shoulder-carried drum and orates in Draconic.

Rhiannon Wyngarde |

As the Wisp is finally felled, Rhiannon scans the room, smiling as Celebeth proclaims their victory, bolstered by Krezzik's drumming. She turns, giving Vesket a nod as the enemy responsible for his tribe's betrayal is eliminated.

Azen |

Azen stops singing and smiles when her sister cheers. She is very relieved that their plan was successful.

DM Talomyr - Kingmaker |

"Thank you." the proud, once again lizard king says.
"Now beginss the work of rebuilding my tribe, though thiss may prove to to be too difficult. It sseemss that something has happened with all of the females of the tribe, but I do not know what that may be. Perhapss they are ssimply hidding in a few of the other hutss."

Azen |

Concerned again, Azen says
Let's find out. You ask some of the people who were here, and I'll go look.
She starts searching from hut to hut.

Celebeth Quinciel |

Celebeth turns to Krezzik and says, "Sounds like you've got a mission, friend. Where did the womenfolk go?"
Krezzik starts moving from lizardman to lizardman, asking what happened to the lizardwomen.
Krezzik: Diplomacy (gather information): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Celebeth stows her sword and says to Azen, "So, should we still build a quarter in the city for lizardfolk visitors? I think it might be interesting to have them as visitors and trade partners, still. I guess we should talk to Tove about it? What do you think?"

Azen |

Azen motions for Celebeth to come with her as she goes to look in all the huts and see if there are female lizardfolk hiding somewhere.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
As they search she says
Well, if we can't find any lizardfolk women I think that we're going to NEED a visitor area for lizardfolk. Need to attract some females to keep the tribe going.

Celebeth Quinciel |

"Yeah... where do you even find lizard-ladies, anyway? This is the only group we've encountered here so far. Maybe there are other tribes in other parts of the swamp or forest? I dunno," she says as she accompanies Azen.

DM Talomyr - Kingmaker |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Both Krezzik's interrogation and Azen's search yield the same result: the tribesfolk of the fairer sex had been effectively imprisoned/protected in the westernmost hut.
It seems there were not that many to begin with, and the few that remained were consider a precious commodity. The female lizardfolk are standoffish at first, seeing smooth-skins and another lizardman they did not recognize, but seem to be overjoyed to see the return of Vesket.

Rhiannon Wyngarde |

"Well that's a relief. Looks like the tribe is well on it's way to recovering from the brief overthrow." Rhiannon says, sheathing her blade.

Garethane Seregon |

Garathane wonders if any of the lizardmen might be disgruntled about the return of Vesket and approaches Tove when she is alone.
"As happy as I am that we were able to defeat the Wisp, should we set out of watch for any of the Lizardfolk that might be less than happy about Vesket's resumption of authority? I don't know where they would go or if the wisp had any allies, but I'm feeling a little paranoid about the whole situation."

DM Talomyr - Kingmaker |

What would you all like to do at this point? (Pending the conversation between Garethane and Tove, of course.)
