For what it's worth, I think you short changed yourself on your "to hit", you should have a -2 to hit because of the terrain, but based on the description, this creature is likely a huge (15' x 15'), and if there is a square that is not engaged in meele, that portion of the monster can be targeted to avoid the -4 penalty for firing at a creature that is engaged in meele....Sully correct me if I'm wrong on this one.
Pretty sure thats for the purposes of determining cover; firing into melee always imparts -4 without precise shot
Standard Action
Berenkor charges into the fray, leaping into the air and attempting to hack the centipede into pieces.
Acrobatics Check (if required)- 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Attack Roll- 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Damage-1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Free Action
Leading by example, Berenkor continues to encourage the party into greater deeds of heroism.
Yes, you interpreted it correctly. Berenko is leaping directly at the centipede, while plunging his longsword into it. Its likely to get him very, very badly hurt lol.

Karthas |

Did you decide you didn't like Berenkor very much anymore? :)

Eseldra |

So long as you can aim at a square that's at least 10 feet from the nearest ally, you can forgo the -4 penalty. Straight from the Pathfinder SRD.
Shooting or Throwing into a Melee: If you shoot or throw a ranged weapon at a target engaged in melee with a friendly character, you take a –4 penalty on your attack roll. Two characters are engaged in melee if they are enemies of each other and either threatens the other. (An unconscious or otherwise immobilized character is not considered engaged unless he is actually being attacked.)
If your target (or the part of your target you're aiming at, if it's a big target) is at least 10 feet away from the nearest friendly character, you can avoid the –4 penalty, even if the creature you're aiming at is engaged in melee with a friendly character.
If your target is two size categories larger than the friendly characters it is engaged with, this penalty is reduced to –2. There is no penalty for firing at a creature that is three size categories larger than the friendly characters it is engaged with.

I decided long ago that when playing a bard, looking epic is worth dying for, if necessary. Plus Berenkor has 12 hp and 16 con; i'll need to take 28 damage to drop him for good.
Thanks for the clarity on firing into melee Eseldra, wasn't aware of that :)

DM Sully |

Eseldra sinks an arrow directly underneath the centipedes mandibles, sinking it to the fletching. Rani launches one as well, following suit and likewise striking the giant beast.
Rani's attack - 1d20+2=21
Rani's damage - 1d8=2
Karthas roars and swings his sword in a full sideways arc, separating the vile creatures head from its shoulders, and the corpse of the large vermin slides down into the chasm, dead.
Everyone gets 135xp! I will say, I'm sad that Berenkor's blitzkreig didn't pan out.
Mikmek cheers behind you, but the effort causes him to slump to the ground again. From the ground, he says, "You showed big-big bug-bug who da boss!"

Karthas |

Karthas begins to see a clearer as he ends his rage along with the centipede's life.
Karthas has 2 rounds of Rage left, and will be fatigued for the next 4 rounds.
As for Sully wanting to see Berenkor's charge....I'm not so sure I would have wanted to. I can't imagine that bug would have done small amounts of damage (AoO), plus if he missed and fell down the chasm...not good. All in all I'd rather keep the little guy around., but like Berenkor said, looking epic is worth the price. :)

Berenkor Trandoran |

Eseldra wrote:"I am going to have a very bad dream about that thing tonight."Karthas in his groggy state grins at Eseldra, "So what you are saying is you don't want to keep that thing's head around for a trophy?"
Berenkor grins
Of course we shall take it as a trophy, my trusty friends! For truly, this is the greatest foe we have yet slain? Perhaps the beast was not the most cunning, or the most intelligent; but it was most certainly the largest.
Berenkor continues his study of the chasm and any perceptible ways to cross it with a (Take 20) DC21 perception check.
Ah, that thing was unlikely to kill Berenkor; it probably would have just give him a scar to show off to the ladies. I'm sad too though Sully :(

Harther Medvyed |

Mikmek cheers behind you, but the effort causes him to slump to the ground again. From the ground, he says, "You showed big-big bug-bug who da boss!"
Harther moves over to Mikmek to check his wounds. "Hang in there," he says to the kobold. "Rani, can you channel any more healing energies today? Was anyone else wounded?" the ranger asks as he looks around at his companions.
As Rani tends to the wounded, Harther strips the mites of any items of value, saving aside any small-sized weapons and armor for Mikmek.

DM Sully |

Mikmek does not seem to be in any danger of immediate death, but he says to Harther, "Make me better, me fight to help you."
The roots hanging from the ceiling of the chasm would make excellent handholds to cross to the other side. However, upon further examination about half of them are rigged to fall if any weight is put to them. With care, the chasm can be easily crossed. Alternately, one could climb down one side and up the other, but hundreds of normal sized centipedes crawl over each other and in and out of small tunnels all around the base of the crevasse.
Make a Climb check if you wish to cross, and indicate the method you wish to use, please. Sorry for the slow posting this evening...was running my RL game of Kingmaker!

Berenkor Trandoran |

Berenkor attempts to climb across, not wanting to let centipedes crawl all over him.
1d20 ⇒ 10
Edit:Keep forgetting these checks are dex based now, so not at a -1 penalty. Got a 10, the irony being that I was going to ask to take 10 before thinking I was at a penalty anyway...

Tyr Thordinsjon |

Climb Check:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9(Untrained)
Is there any way people can 'help others' and hence allow characters not to fall down into the creepy-crawlies?
Tyr offers one of his healing potions to the Kobold.
"Here, this should help pick you up." Tyr pulls one of his daggers from its sheath.
"The grip might be a little odd for you, but any sharp steel is better than none, right?" He offers the handle to Mikmek.

Karthas |

Hey Tyr, not trying to make you fall down the pit but climb is one of the skills that Armor Check Penalty applies to. (Chainmail has a -5 penalty.)

DM Sully |

"The grip might be a little odd for you, but any sharp steel is better than none, right?" He offers the handle to Mikmek.
Mikmek nods solemnly to Tyr, the effect slightly ruined by his semi-comical appearance. Nevertheless, the kobold takes the dagger and thanks Tyr in his pidgen common.
Berenkor swings hand over hand, faltering only once but clearing the gap. Karthas goes next, following suit, and easily crosses the chasm. Tyr makes it halfway across, but loses his grip and falls twenty feet down, landing on the corpse of the giant centipede. Tyr takes 2 points of damage from the fall. And yes, Karthas is right about the armor check penalty. Fortunately for Tyr, the insects at the bottom are merely a nuisance, and though they crawl all over his armor, none actually hurt him.
Waiting on checks for the rest of the group! I'll assume Tyr takes his time and scrambles up the other side with the help of Berenkor and Karthas.

Harther Medvyed |

Has everyone who was injured been healed up? I know that Rani was wounded in our battle with the mites who had been torturing Mikmek. Shall we assume that Rani channels enought to heal herself and Mikmek?
After ensuring that all of the other party members are ready, Harther tries to follow Karthas' and Berenkor's examples in crossing the chasm.
Climb Check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

Rani |

Oh. Take your potion back! :) Rani gathers everyone around and channels energy 1d6 ⇒ 4.
"I don't like the looks of those roots. Isn't there a better way?"
Assuming there's not...can we retcon Rani casting guidance on everyone attempting the climb? That'll give a +1 on their checks. Not much, but it might help. Then she'll try the climb: Climb 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (2) - 2 = 0 (included penalties for Str and armor).
Edit: Oh. You. MUST. Be. Kidding.

Karthas |

Karthas takes the rope from his backpack and lowers rope into the chasm to help those who weren't quite so succesful on their attempts to cross.
EDIT: Karthas should be able to pull up anyone weighing 306 lbs or less, so anyone that falls shouldn't have to make another climb check.

DM Sully |

Anyone who didn't make a DC 10 check falls into the pit and takes 2 points of damage. The good news is that Berenkor and Karthas pointed out all the "trapped" handholds in the ceiling, so everyone fell because they are clumsy, not because the traps worked. Hey it's a small silver lining...
Rani channels positive energy, causing scrapes to heal, cuts to knit themselves closed, and bruises to fade.
Unfortunately, many of those injuries returned as the group clambers its way across, and in some cases down, the yawning chasm. Eventually, the party makes their way to the other side, in no small part due to the help of Karthas.
I'll try to get a bigger post up this afternoon detailing what happens next.

DM Sully |

The chamber on the other side of the divide tapers down to another passageway about five feet wide. After a few twists and turns, the passage abruptly opens to a larger square-ish room. Again, pale roots burst from every surface, but the floor is mostly covered in old canvas and sheets of thick moss like some sort of bizarre rug.
Seven mites stand around a very short table in the middle of the chamber, pointing and arguing over several piles of dirt, gravel, and insect corpses that seem to represent some kind of battle map. Underneath the table is a burlap sack, bursting with what looks like a bristle of spears poking from the top and out holes on the side. At the far side of the room, a massive tick sits almost motionless, digging into the ground with its razor sharp mouth-parts. Their leader, a mite with pale blue skin and huge front teeth spots the group round the corner. He cries out,
Sylvan:
Initiative:
Karthas - 1d20+2=19
Tyr - 1d20-1=12
Eseldra - 1d20+5=10
Berenkor - 1d20+1=9
Harther - 1d20+5=7
Rani - 1d20+2=7
Mites (and the giant freakin' tick) - 3
Sorry for the atrocious initiative rolls. Going to grid this one out because there are so many combatants. Post will be up soon.

Sully, you mention that the room is larger. Is it large enough that we are not taking the -2 penalty on attack roles for this battle? Just curious, thanks.

Sorry, mate...not that large. It's quite a bit wider and longer than most of the other rooms.
The room is mostly square, and is gridded as usual...A-H along the top and 1-7 down the side. On your first turn, designate a space from A3-A6 or B3-B6 to start. The table is at E3-E5 and F3-F5. There are mites at D4, D5, E2, E6, F2, and F6. The leader is at G4, and the giant tick is at H4. Each corner is impassable (A1, A7, H1, and H7) as the corners are rounded.
Here we go! You guys get to pretty much unleash hell before the mites even get a chance to go. Stupid 3 initiative roll...

Rani |

When her initiative comes up, Rani's going to try cause fear on the apparent leader. Assuming he's not 6 HD or higher he needs to make a DC 14 Will save. If he makes it he's shaken for one round. If he fails he becomes frightened for 1d4 rounds.
Rani says in her best scary voice, "Grtch blithb blay!" and points at the leader.

Berenkor Trandoran |

Hold friends! Allow me to say a few words before we charge!
Berenkor is asking everyone planning to make an attack to delay your actions until after his.
Standard action
Berenkor begins a sing-song rhyme, weaving magic into his words that fills you with confidence and assures you of victory.
+2 to attack rolls and damage rolls this round (with Sully's approval), and +1 to attack rolls and damage in subsequent rounds- you only get this bonus in the first round if you character chooses to heed Berenkor's words and delay your action until after his (or if your initiative is lower than his anyway)
The mites are a vile and ugly race,
They make even a goblin look pretty!
Snivelling snot all over their face,
They can't even claim to be witty!
It's time to purge these roots of sin,
Let's charge the ugly blighters!
There is no doubt that we shall win,
Their ranks are devoid of true fighters!
Move action
Move into melee with the closest mite (while trying to avoid blocking the group's charge actions), longsword out and ready.

Karthas |

Starting from B3 Waiting until Berenkor has inspired the group with his words, Karthas moves to attack one of mites along the north wall. Ending in D1, attacking the mite in E2
Attack:1d20 + 4 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 4 + 2 - 2 = 20
Damage:2d6 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (3, 5) + 4 + 2 = 14
Sully if you only approve a +1 bonus from Berenkor, subtract 1 from both rolls.

Map of the Mites' Lair
Note: map reflects the movements of Berenkor, Eseldra, Karthas, and Harther.
Emboldened by Berenkor's rhyme following Eseldra's spell, Harther moves to one edge of the room (square C7) to line up a clear shot at the giant tick. Stooping beneath the low ceiling, the ranger draws and fires.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 4 + 2 - 2 = 15
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
EDIT: Please add additional +1 to damage (from Berenkor's Inspire)for total damage of 4.

Sully, any results on Eseldra's colour spray? Will save DC 15.
Think we're waiting on everyones actions then we'll get a round summary, 2E stylee ;)
Edit: We should probably agree on an appropiate length of time before its 'legal' for Sully to post our actions for us, so Sully doesn't have to worry about stepping on our toes.

Agreed. I like this idea, because there are times when I'm around and can post a lot, and times where I'm away for half a day or more. I like to keep things flowing when I am around, but I don't want to irritate anyone by jumping in when I shouldn't. Regardless, I'll give it a few before I do a little summary of everyone's actions.
Also, happy 1000th post everyone!
