Actually, sorry, my mistake - you can't tell, because the stables on the west side of the courtyard are in the way, blocking the view of where the doors would presumably be.

28/28 hp

You could always say I noticed the door from the level above...

I could say that, but it wouldn't be true. ;) The stables are built right up against the castle wall - if there is an inner door (and logic suggests there would be, it's true) then the door opens directly into the stables, and they have a roof.

That said, there is only one visible set of doors out of the stables from your current position - almost directly west of the inner gate of the gatehouse, about 60 feet away.

28/28 hp

Lamsfel points at the stable. "I expect them to come out of there. I will to the side so you can fire without worrying about hitting me."

He hustles across the courtyard to the wall of the stable and waits about 10' to the side of the door. Hopefully, the door opens out and he can position himself so he will be hidden behind the door.

Okay, I think we're in a position where an actual map would be useful. I have one linked up on the Campaign Info tab under "Courtyard Battle" - if everyone could give me some idea where they're at at this point, I would appreciate it. For the record, the tower the corbies entered was the one at A-B/7-8; the only visible exit from that area is the double doors at E-F/17-18, although the map does let you cheat and see there's another set of doors on the north side (H-I/5-6) - technically you haven't had an angle to let you see those, however.

Lamsfel:
Hey, let me know whether you can see the map - I tried something to see if it would help, but I have no way of testing it since I never have a problem with the maps to begin with...

Male Varisian (human) Ranger 3

G22 for me then.

Current HP: 11/21, Strength Damage: 2 Channels Remaining: 3

As the battle shifts from the rooftops to the ground floor, Callomeleth shoulders his bow and unlimbers the glaive from his back. "I suspect there will be more than just the two crebain when they emerge from whatever that building is. Let us have the Rose's blessing upon us, so we might prevail this day." He sings a soft hymn to Shelyn, and a pleasant scent of rose perfumes the air around them.

Mechanics:

I think I21 puts me within reach of the door, so put me there. I cast bless this round.

28/28 hp

D19 for the crazy elf

Shisumo:
Works like a champ! Usually, to get anything, I have to monkey around with my browser, but I did not have to do anything this time. What did you do differently?

Male Human Summoner (Synthesist) 1/ Paladin 2

H-21

They may be calling for reinforcements, or arming another weapon. Tristan, if you step outside we can help you to hold the door against whatever comes out, or smash it down if those creatures have barred it against our coming.

If Tristan complies, I'll cast Enlarge Person on him.

Tybus hasn't posted a location - could someone do so for him?

Male Human Bladebound Magus 3

Sorry; I really flaked out there. I'm a little confused about whether we're inside the bailey or not. I guess to move things along, I'll park myself at I-20.

Tybus, as far as I know, only Lamsfel has left the gatehouse, and I don't think you could reach I20 from the gate and still be able to ready your shot at the doors. You could go with O19 or O20 to have a little cover from the doors, or H22 for a clear shot across the gap between the gatehouse and the stable...

Male Human Bladebound Magus 3

Okay, I'll go to H-22

Almost as soon as Lamsfel is in position, the southern doors to the stables open, but what emerges is not a dire corby but a spider the size of a pony. Tybus and Tristan loose their arrows, however, and the monstrous arachnid dies as quickly as it appeared. A shout of fury echoes from somewhere within the stables, and the noise is definitely not that of a dire corby - or, for that matter, any of the common humanoids.

Another round of actions from you all.

28/28 hp

Lamsfel, face visibly paled from the appearance of the spider, holds his position and steels himself for another surprise.

Delaying to see what issues forth before calling an action.

Male Varisian (human) Ranger 3

"This does not bode well." Tristan nods to Gan, then sheathes his bow and steps outside, drawing his sword.

Male Human Bladebound Magus 3

Aye, mate. What have we got here? Tybus asks with grim curiosity. He follows Tristan's actions in stowing his bow and reaching for his sword. However, his hand wavers between the basket-hilt of the cutlass and the longer, elegantly wrapped handle of Song of Sparrows.
私は私がやっているか知っていると思います。 he mutters.

He grasps the hilt of the Minkaian sword and draws it in a smooth motion, simultaneously infusing it with a charge of arcane power. Spending a pool point for a +1

Callomeleth and Gan stillhave actions to take. I assume Gan follows Tristan outside so he can finish enlarging him - would the two of you specify your new positions on the map, please?

Male Varisian (human) Ranger 3

I'll be in F20-G21 if I can do that without squeezing.

Male Human Summoner (Synthesist) 1/ Paladin 2

I'll go in H-19

That's fine, Tristan. Callomeleth should be back from GenCon today, so hopefully we can get his action soon and then get moving.

Current HP: 11/21, Strength Damage: 2 Channels Remaining: 3

Back from GenCon, yes. Able to post right away, no. Things have been crazy.

"This is a terrible idea," Callomeleth says as he sees everyone leaving the safety of the outer bailey. He takes up a position next to Lamsfel, and readies his glaive to deal with whatever is coming.

Put me at D20.

28/28 hp

"Aye, isn't it grand?"

You can hear the smile in the other elf's voice despite the tension as he waits to see what comes forth.

From the darkened interior of the stable, three human-sized figures appear, but none are human or anything like it. Two are the dire corbies that fled into the tower from the wall above, and they still bear the marks of the injuries they suffered from arrows and catapult alike. The corbies stand on either side of the third figure, a hideously deformed purple-skinned creature, whose body is almost skeletally thin but whose head has the eight faceted eyes and writhing chelicerae of horrific spider.

Knowledge (dungeoneering), DC 13:
This is an ettercap (albeit a rather skinny one), a monstrous subterranean race known for their empathic lies to spiders.

Spider-thing's intitiative: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

Callomeleth can take an action before the spider-thing does.

Male Human Bladebound Magus 3

Know (dungeoneering): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Ettercap! Underground spider-folk! Nasty bit o' work, Tybus shouts as he recognizes the creature.

Map is (finally) updated.

Current HP: 11/21, Strength Damage: 2 Channels Remaining: 3

"Anything we need to know about it?", the elf asks, raising his glaive to defend against their charge. "Or will plain, old violence work on them?"

Male Human Bladebound Magus 3

Going out on a limb, but don't get bit, watch out for webs, and violence be the best choice!

Was that a readied attack against a charge, Cal? Or just flavor - and if so, were you going to do something else?

Current HP: 11/21, Strength Damage: 2 Channels Remaining: 3

Flavor, mostly, but it's sound tactics. I'll ready an action and attack the first baddy that gets close enough to hit.

The ettercap steps toward the massive form of the enlarged Tristan, but the movement takes it within the reach of Callomeleth's glaive.

Attack and damage roll please, sir.

Current HP: 11/21, Strength Damage: 2 Channels Remaining: 3

Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Damage: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

The elf thrusts his glaive out as soon as the ettercap is in reach, but the abomination easily dodges the clumsy blow.

The priest proces little impediment to the ettercap, who ignores the attack in favor of savaging the massive Tristan.

Bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9, damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 and a DC 15 Fort save
Claw #1: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9, damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Claw #2: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18, damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Fortunately, though, avoid Callomeleth's blow throws the ettercap off-balance, and it only manages to catch the giant-size ranger with a single, weak claw blow.

You guys can all act now before the bad guys go again.

28/28 hp

Lamsfel steps around the door and attacks the nearer dire corby.

Attack with Whispering Shrike: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (16) + 0 = 16
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Attack with mw shortsword: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Male Human Summoner (Synthesist) 1/ Paladin 2

Does the ettercap have reach, or is the map a snapshot of where he was at the time of Callomeleth's readied action? I don't think it affects my action either way, so here goes.

Gan steps up to the creature, throwing down his spear and concentrates his arcane power, striking with tooth and claw.

5ft move to G-18. Swift: Arcane Strike (I remembered! Hehe). Free: Drop spear. Full attack.

Bite attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 Bite Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Claw attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10 Claw Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Claw attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 Claw Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Male Varisian (human) Ranger 3

Smarting from the blow, Tristan swings his sword at the monstrosity besetting him.

Greatsword attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14, damage: 3d6 + 7 ⇒ (1, 1, 4) + 7 = 13

28/28 hp

Eww, that thing has to taste terrible. I mean, I would not want to bite Tristan, either, but dusty old anthropomorphic spider? Just eww.

Male Human Bladebound Magus 3

Pardon, mate, Tybus excuses himself as he moves through Tristan's space to get a shot at the ettercap.
Melee: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

confirm: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
crit damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

28/28 hp

Nice roll, Tybus. I guess we should tell Shisumo our new position. Lamsfel will move 5' right. I'm not sure the coordinates using my phone.

Male Human Bladebound Magus 3

Right. Does G-19 mess anyone up?

Lamsfel cuts down the dire corby nearest him with two quick, precise cuts. Meanwhile, the ettercap barely manages to dodge the massive greatsword in Tristan's hands, but can do nothing to avoid feeling Gan's teeth or the shockingly brutal wound from Tybus' blade.

Cal gets an action this round still. And Tybus pretty much has to be in E20 in order to attack the ettercap, who is now in F19. G19 would work, but would provoke an AoO from the ettercap on the way by.

Male Human Bladebound Magus 3

G-20 it is then. No sense provoking when I don't have to.

Current HP: 11/21, Strength Damage: 2 Channels Remaining: 3

The elf thrusts his glaive at the ettercap again, but his blows remain slow and sluggish. He shakes his head in frustration and focuses. Snap out of it, fool! Your friends are in danger, and you're bloody useless!

Mechanics:

Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Damage: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

Callomeleth's attack is indeed ineffective, and as Tybus and Lamsfel close in around the ettercap, he finds his line of attack on the monstrous foe impeded even further.

Stunned by the power and viciousness of Tybus' attack, the ettercap turns its teeth and claws on him instead of Tristan.

Bite on Tybus: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15, damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 plus a DC 15 Fort save.
Claw #1: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18, damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Claw #2: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17, damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Meanwhile, the remaining dire corby steps over its fellow's body and slashes at Lasmfel with the claws embedded in its wings.

Claw #1: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16, damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Claw #1: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21, damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

You guys are up, and the map is updated. Also, unless I'm missing something, Tybus is at exactly 0 hp. (On the upside, such as it is, ettercap venom is a paralytic, but it doesn't hit you with Con damage...

28/28 hp

Lamsfel ducks one attack but can't avoid the second and responds to the dire corby in kind. Just saying this now - there's no way I can repeat last round.

Attack with Whispering Shrike: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (8) + 0 = 8
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Attack with mw shortsword: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Well - glad I got that out of the way. Thanks to Suppressing Attack, the dire corby suffers a -1 to attack until my next turn.

Male Human Bladebound Magus 3

Fortitude: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17

Male Varisian (human) Ranger 3

Tristan heaves a heavy sigh, determined to not let any more comrades fall because of his lack of skill.

If possible, I'll wait until Gan has moved into a flanking position, assuming that's his intention.

Greatsword attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7,damage: 3d6 + 7 ⇒ (4, 4, 4) + 7 = 19

Oh well. At least Sandro isn't here to see this.

A blush rises on Tristan's cheeks as he fatally misjudges his blow.

Male Human Summoner (Synthesist) 1/ Paladin 2

Yep, Tristan, flanking it is

Gan steps up, tearing into his opponents again as his claws and teeth hum with arcane power.

5ft step to F-18.

Swift: Arcane Strike

Full attack on the ettercap first. If he drops and I have more attacks left, my remaining attacks are on the corby and will be 2 lower due to me not flanking.

Bite attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9 Bite Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

Claw attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27 Claw Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Crit confirm: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19 Crit Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Claw attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26 Claw Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Although Tristan and Lamsfel strike out with no effect, Gan's efforts are far more impressive. He casually tears the ettercap's throat out with one claw, and carves a deep chunk of flesh out of the remaining dire corby with the other.

Ettercap down, dire corby moderately wounded. Callomeleth and Tybus still to go.

Current HP: 11/21, Strength Damage: 2 Channels Remaining: 3

"NO!", Callomeleth cries as he sees the ettercap tear into Tybus. He lays his left hand on the man's shoulder and begins singing. A waft of rosepetal blows over the two of them, and the man's wounds begin to close.

Mechanics:

Burn command for cure light wounds.
Heal: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
