I can't really call them crazy. Just high-maintenance. Which is why I'm acting as the teacher's second set of eyes.
Urgh. Let me tell you this: the parents are often worse than the kids. Those of you who have kids, don't be the crazy parents. Please. The amount of parents who don't teach their kids basic social skills (like listening to the teacher, or not hitting other kids) is staggering.
But hopefully I'll only get more hours from here. Bring on the job babies!

Asuriel Arktaros |

As a parent I can tell you teaching your kids social skills is not as simple as it sounds. Trial and error I guess.

Horatio A Aldebrandt |

As long as you're at least trying to teach kids that they can't punch other kids for standing in line wrong. The school I'm at, we have a lot of parents who expect us to teach that sort of thing so they don't have to. :/
EDIT: I may just be cranky and disillusioned, because for two years I've been dealing with kids whose parents don't teach them to tie their own shoelaces (so the teacher has to), dress themselves (so the teacher has to take them to the bathroom), use a knife and fork (so the teacher has to cut their lunch for them) or use simple manners like "please" and "thank you". We have one little boy who routinely grabs other kids by the neck, and the parent refuses to enforce a consequence, because "that's your job". Lady, when your eight-year-old chokes an asthmatic student, misses his lunch break, and gets to go home and play Call of Duty for six hours, he thinks he's gotten away with it.
I'm sure when/if I have kids, I'll realize that now, at twenty four, I know SFA. But at this particular school, we have a lot of parents who just don't give a f#@#.

Trace Coburn |

What Choon said. Lord knows I love my soon-to-be-four-year-old nephew, but a stronger sense that “actions have consequences” would not go amiss. :-S His father (my brother) does try, but... honestly, there are a lot of kids in the current generation who need to learn the meaning of the word “NO.”

Horatio A Aldebrandt |

That "storming the castle" comment gets funnier when you factor in that Spoony's bad joke was initially going to be along the lines of the trees being quite lovely in the Fire Swamp.

Asuriel Arktaros |

Morning gang! I drove up to Boston last night ahead of the snowstorm so I wouldn't miss my fun filled weekend! I'm out of town for PAX through Monday and as such my check-ins will be much less regular as I dig my hand into games, games, games! :)
@GM - Bot me as needed, don't let me hold things up.

DM-Salsa |

Sorry for not moving things forward this weekend. I'll get things going tonight. Forgot that I might have to bot Asuriel.

Olivius_Telraven |

Oh, that's just not cricket!
I assume that's an Australian expression? Similar to "not sporting"? Either that or I've been living under a rock. I've never heard it before.

Horatio A Aldebrandt |

Pretty sure it's an Aussie expression - though since I heard it from my pommie dad, it could just as easily be a Britishism, for all I know. Your interpretation is spot-on, though. Not cricket = unsportsmanlike, or just unfair.

Pavanna Alazario |

I’m next-to-certain it’s originally British, since they invented the sport itself.
Or, as I saw Jayne thinking in one fan-fic (as River cracked his nuts for him): “Gorramit, girl, them ain’t no kind’a kosherized rules!”

Horatio A Aldebrandt |

I googled, and couldn't find a definitive answer. The slang dictionaries I checked said English/Australian, and Wikipedia itself just says "English language". We'll go with British - it makes sense, since we steal a lot of their stuff.
Ahahahahaha. I hear it in his voice and everything. :D
EDIT: more in-depth googling confirms the phrase's origins. Twentieth-century British, originating from unsportsmanlike conduct in the sport of cricket.

Asuriel Arktaros |

Now that we're done with the quasit, I wanted to share something. When I ran this scene for my group I was a helluva less nice than Salsa. The combat lasted nearly 30 rounds and was quite epic. I had that scene (and some others) created as artwork for my players. Here is the quasit scene in the underground cathedral.

Asuriel Arktaros |

I can. I ran my players through a couple of side-quests that we didn't do here so some of them wouldn't make sense.

El Ronza |

I'm sick of this week. I just want it to be over. A woman at work lost her grandson (whooping cough; at four weeks, he was too young to be vaccinated); a student lost her mother; another staff member's father is slipping; and I just got home from the ER. It's ridiculous.
Before you ask, it was for a spider bite. It doesn't sound like much, but in Australia, we don't f~## around with spiders. Good news is, I'm not going to die. Bad news is, I don't think I'll be getting superpowers either.
But yeah, can this week just be over already? :-(

AdamWarnock |

Damn, Ronnie. That's rough. Really rough.
I can't blame you for wanting this week to be over, but I think this might cheer you up. I know I was laughing when last night when I got the call from my mom.
So I have four different computers, A desktop, a MacBook pro, a Sony Vaio laptop, and an Asus laptop; not to mention an iPad, iPhone, and a Kindle Fire. My mom has been using the Asus as hers, until I get a call earlier this week that the port for the charger has broken.
Scratch one laptop.
So, my mom and my sister are going to us my sister's laptop, except is has been infested with viruses. I brought it in so it could be fixed, and apparently, it had to have Windows re-installed.
But being the good son/big brother that I am, I got out the Vaio and got it updated so they can use it. Things are good, everyone's happy, and little sister can do her coursework on it.
Then I get a call last night. Momma's trying to get on the computer and it is saying it can't find the OS. Apparently there was a flashlight with some rare-earth magnets sharing the ottoman that the laptop was being set on.
And Laptop number two is out of commission.
So, again, being the good son that I am, and before learning that my little sister was the one that was guilty of negligent computercide, I ask if my mom wants to borrow the MacBook. The answer was an emphatic "NO!" Okay, I'll just take it in, and hope little sister didn't have anything important that she was working on.
Well, a little later that night, little sis stops by to drop off the out of commission laptop, and asks to borrow the MacBook. Said Mac has no Microsoft Office installed, and I do not have any Office for Mac keys, so she can't use it for coursework. I have learned she also killed the Vaio, and naturally, I'm hesitant to lend her the computer that costs more than the other three she's put out of commission combined, so I lend her the iPad since she was wanting to look at Pinterest and until her laptop gets out of the shop, momma can't look at anything online either..
I'm morbidly curious to see if the iPad survives long enough for me to get little sis her computer. Fortunately, her laptop is in the car since it was ready when I dropped the Vaio off.
All in all, it's kinda funny that I caught grief for having four different computers, and now I really only have two. :D

Horatio A Aldebrandt |

I think the moral there is that your sister should not be allowed near computers. Wow. :/

Noro Kas |

ok, while on the cruise...Dreamworks characters are all over Royal Caribbean ships, as well as the movies....
like Shrek, Puss in Boots, How to Train your Dragon, Madagascar, Rio...
anyway I think I saw How to train your Dragon about 5 times on the cruise. (the only movie they play later at night when there is nothing else to do.)
any stop babbling..
for some reason every time I watch it now, I see Astrid and Hiccup as Noro and Horatio.
I guess I am loosing it...

Horatio A Aldebrandt |

You're going mad, Ed. :P Though I must say, I find the mental image endearing. We all know Spoony would make a horrible viking.
That said... I kind of want to try drawing it. But I still have to draw Pavanna and Spoony as the 10th Doctor and Captain Jack Harkness first, because that image still hasn't left my mind entirely.
Actually, I need to get good at drawing, first...
Thirzin, buddy, I hear ya on the work front.

DM-Salsa |

It's not that bad. I mean, At least I didn't throw nearly 200 HP worth of enemies at you.

Asuriel Arktaros |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Yeah I mean it could be worse. We could be underground in a fortress of wrath or something terrible like that. >.>

DM-Salsa |

Did I mention these were four ghouls, a ghast, and a huecuva? with point-buys and max HP.
I think I may have overdone it a little for first level.

Olivius_Telraven |

This can't go as poorly as the WotR game, right?
Salsa just disintegrated or front line in another game with a similar setup. :(

DM-Salsa |

No, mainly because these guys don't have max HP. I'll post the stats for them after the encounter in the WotR discussion.

DM-Salsa |

No update tonight since the site will be down when I get home tonight. Sorry for the delay.

DM-Salsa |

Well, you should know that all of the attacks I rolled against Noro hit. I wasn't expecting that, and one of those was a crit.

Horatio A Aldebrandt |

Now, Salsa, when Spoony first got this super-duper fairy fiddle of awesome and shiny, you said it could be used once per day to double the numeric bonuses from bardic performances. I'm assuming I can activate that as part of beginning or continuing a performance? And does it use the same amount of rounds of performance, or does it claim double?

DM-Salsa |

The same number of rounds and sure, it's a free action to activate as part of the bardic performances.

DM-Salsa |

Okay, so who remembers the drawings of Noro and Saroune I did a while back? Well, I'm getting back into it, and I have a work in progress of Olivius to show off. you can find it on my tumblr here: http://salsathegeek.tumblr.com/post/115347898310/day-2-olivius-telraven-fro m-my-rise-of-the
Not sure I got Olives' hair or expression right, but I am liking how the armor's turning out. Next PC on the list is Horatio. If anyone one has any suggestions or critiques, lemme know.

Horatio A Aldebrandt |

Hey, not bad, not bad! I'm liking the armour particularly. The face doesn't look surly enough, though :p
Remember, there's now a highly-appropriate drawing of Spoony you can use for reference in his profile ;-)

Thirzin Bronzebeard |

My friends, I may be scarce the next few days. My cat got diagnosed with a possibly fatal disease called Feline Infectious Peritonitis (or FIP). I...am struggling with this news, and the beginning of treatment for my youngest cat. I just need a few days to recover myself.
If need be, people can bot me through the combat.

DM-Salsa |

@Thirzin: Will do. I hope your cat gets to feeling better. I may be more of a dog person, but I'm not immune to a cat's petability.
@Spoony Ronnie: glad you like it. I'm hoping to color these, so we'll see how things turn out. I'll be sure to use the pic you commissioned as reference. I just need to know where you hid the link. :D

Horatio A Aldebrandt |

Thirzin - that's rough. A sick pet is a horrible thing to go through. I wish you and your furry friend all the best :-(
Salsa - here he is. And now I need to go actually put it in my profile for real...

Olivius_Telraven |

Salsa: Nice! You're definitely better than me. My best art contains a suspicious number of sticks...
Thirzin: Ouch. I hag one of my kitties die a few years ago. Take your time

Noro Kas |

yes the picture is great, heck OOTS artwork is to complex for me.
but you might want to do an updated Noro, the one with severed limbs and a pool of blood.

Thirzin Bronzebeard |

Well, we tried treatment. She rallied on Saturday, but on Sunday, her body began being overwhelmed by the disease. I won't go into details or specifics (send me a message if you want that), but I took her Monday for a second opinion at a different vet. FIP was confirmed, and I was gently told that there truly was not much to be done. They could either stretch her out for a few days, or we could put her down today.
So I did the tough decision and put her down. We had several of my friends and my dad there with me, which was a great help. I cried and am still crying on and off. It's going to be a truly tough day tomorrow.
I'm going to try and post tomorrow, but if I'm needed before then, please bot me.

DM-Salsa |

Sorry to hear that Thirzin. Same as Olives here, my thoughts and prayers are with you.
