Stand Firm (Ex)
At 2nd level, a phalanx soldier gains a +1 bonus to CMD against bull rush, drag, overrun, and trip attempts. This bonus also applies on saves against trample attacks. The bonus increases by +1 for every four levels beyond 2nd. This ability replaces Bravery. (currently +1)
Phalanx Fighting (Ex)
At 3rd level, when a phalanx soldier wields a shield, he can use any polearm or spear of his size as a one-handed weapon.
This ability replaces Armor Training 1.
Brawler's Cunning (Ex)
If the brawler's Intelligence score is less than 13, it counts as 13 for the purpose of meeting the prerequisites of combat feats.
Martial Flexibility (Ex)
A brawler can take a move action to gain the benefit of a combat feat she doesn't possess. This effect lasts for 1 minute. The brawler must meet all the feat's prerequisites. She may use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + 1/2 her brawler level (minimum 1).
The brawler can use this ability again before the duration expires in order to replace the previous combat feat with another choice.
If a combat feat has a daily use limitation (such as Stunning Fist), any uses of that combat feat while using this ability count toward that feat's daily limit.
At 6th level, a brawler can use this ability to gain the benefit of two combat feats at the same time. She may select one feat as a swift action or two feats as a move action. She may use one of these feats to meet a prerequisite of the second feat; doing so means that she cannot replace a feat currently fulfilling another's prerequisite without also replacing those feats that require it. Each individual feat selected counts toward her daily uses of this ability.
At 10th level, a brawler can use this ability to gain the benefit of three combat feats at the same time. She may select one feat as a free action, two feats as a swift action, or three feats as a move action. She may use one of the feats to meet a prerequisite of the second and third feats, and use the second feat to meet a prerequisite of the third feat. Each individual feat selected counts toward her daily uses of this ability.
At 12th level, a brawler can use this ability to gain the benefit of one combat feat as an immediate action or three combat feats as a swift action. Each individual feat selected counts toward her daily uses of this ability.
At 20th level, a brawler can use this ability to gain the benefit of any number of combat feats as a swift action. Each feat selected counts toward her daily uses of this ability.
Martial Training (Ex)
At 1st level, a brawler counts her total brawler levels as both fighter levels and monk levels for the purpose of qualifying for feats. She also counts as both a fighter and a monk for feats and magic items that have different effects based on whether the character has levels in those classes (such as Stunning Fist and a monk's robe). This ability does not automatically grant feats normally granted to fighters and monks based on class level, namely Stunning Fist.
Unarmed Strike
At 1st level, a brawler gains Improved Unarmed Strike as a bonus feat. A brawler may attack with fists, elbows, knees, and feet. This means that a brawler may make unarmed strikes with her hands full. A brawler applies her full Strength modifier (not half ) on damage rolls for all her unarmed strikes.
Usually, a brawler's unarmed strikes deal lethal damage, but she can choose to deal nonlethal damage instead with no penalty on her attack roll. She has the same choice to deal lethal or nonlethal damage while grappling.
A brawler's unarmed strike is treated as both a manufactured weapon and a natural weapon for the purpose of spells and effects that modify either manufactured weapons or natural weapons.
A brawler also deals more damage with her unarmed strikes than others, as shown on Table: Brawler. (Currently 1d6)
Olivius Telraven was born to a minor Chelaxian house in the countryside as the fifth son among many daughters. Needless to say, most everyone overlooked him, but not enough to ignore when he broke the rules. It seemed that the only time he got any attention was when he was breaking something or saying something wrong. He tried his best to fit in, but he always lived in his older siblings' shadows. In time he learned to just stay out of sight, so he took to a life of quiet and hard work. He even counted some of the servants as his close friends.
Eventually this "solicitation with the common rabble" was discovered, much to the shame of his parents. He was immediately shipped off to the Asmodean Academy of Military Science where he took a keen interest in the magical arts. However, his father's influence followed him even there, and he was forced into martial training. He loathed the academy, mostly because he saw his father in his commander's eyes. They all expected more. Always more. After months of training and refining his forms to perfection, he received an "adequate" grading. He was furious. No matter what he did, it was never enough. He ran away from the school into the southern regions of Varisia near Magnimar at his first opportunity.
There he joined a nomadic group of bards and traders as a hired sword. He could not have been happier. He travelled with them, learning the language of the crafty Goblins who sometimes traded after they were persuaded at swordpoint to not chance raiding the caravan. He traveled far and wide, most recently taking up a bi-monthly route that includes Sandpoint.
He also grew very familiar and adept at watching his back for pursuing agents of his Father. He has been officially exiled, or so the assassins have said before he dispatched them. His father is seeking to remove the stain of a prodigal son from his record. When not guarding the caravan or himself, he has started to train in carpentry from the Wagonmaster, though he is little more than an apprentice. He is more adept at laying out the plans for repairs than actually crafting the wood into parts.
He still practices some rudimentary arcane forms now and again, but his hope has waned that he will ever be a spellcaster. Even now he keeps an empty worn spell book and spell component pouch in his backpack to remind himself of his dream.
Personality/Appearance:
Olivius is just under 6 ft. tall with the typical dark hair and light skin of Cheliax. He is strong, surprisingly nimble for his size, and very bright. He usually wears well kept scale mail into battle and wields a heavy wooden shield of aged oak and a spear. He keeps a long Bardiche across his back for when he should really not get up close, and four chackram, his best trade success yet, sway from his belt. His shield used to bear some kind of sigil, but it has been rendered unrecognizable by numerous ax cuts.
When not in armor, Olivious usually wears the quilted padding that goes under his armor. If that is being washed or is otherwise a non-option, he has a set of slightly worn but fine clothes of Chelaxian design, but he tends to save these for special occasions.
In spite of all he has experienced, he is still young and naive, and tends to have a hard time talking with people he doesn't know. He has a level head and a steady hand that is best demonstrated in his structured mind and disciplined, strong fighting style.
