Sark decides to move closer and take out another vial.

DM Rah |

Ok, botting.
Rhoswen fires her bow and Swarmholio throws another ray of fire, but neither attack seems to find a target.
The flames from Sark's alchemist fire go out and the room goes quiet. Whatever the enemy is up to, it doesn't end with any noticeable attack.

The dice are not happy with me. GM, sorry for the radio silence. I did have some personal things come up. I meant to alert every game, but I obviously didn't.

DM Rah |

Rhoswen, no problem. The message got through anyway. :)
Grimdoc, it will take a few rounds to pinpoint his location.
1st Round: Presence or absence of magical auras.
2nd Round: Number of different magical auras and the power of the most potent aura.
3rd Round: The strength and location of each aura. If the items or creatures bearing the auras are in line of sight, you can make Knowledge (arcana) skill checks to determine the school of magic involved in each. (Make one check per aura: DC 15 + spell level, or 15 + 1/2 caster level for a nonspell effect.) If the aura eminates from a magic item, you can attempt to identify its properties (see Spellcraft).

listens: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Sark says "Everyone be quiet and listen, use your ears not your eyes." readying to throw his vial when he hears movement or sound in the room.

DM Rah |

Since none of the PCs are injured I'll assume Ali is still holding his action. Also, no one has a perception good enough to find him this round, so I'll move on.
1d20 ⇒ 15
2d8 ⇒ (5, 1) = 6
The room is quiet, and no one notices anything that gives the alchemist's position away, but Grimdoc and Rufus are slowly narrowing down the focus of their detections.
All PCs can make another round of actions.

![]() |

Rhoswen decides to stop firing blindly into the room. She readies an arrow and whispers to Brother Grimdoc, "Hey Grim, let me know if you figure out where the little bugger went and I'll try to get him."

DM Rah |

Moving on again.
Grimdoc and Rufus continue to scan the room. At first the detection spell seems off, but then you realize that it is detecting multiple auras in the room. One, which spreads across the entire floor, is coming from the mist that swirls around your feet. A few others concentrated up near the ceiling must be the alchemist!
Map Updated. Everyone go ahead and make your actions!

Ali keeps playing doctor.
I think I need line-of-sight for most of my spells so I'll stay on curing duty as long as he stays invisible. I have a wand of burning hands but I need to UMD it so I'll hold off on that unless things get desperate.

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Letting his vial fly into the air what they think is the target he aims at the ceiling and hopes to splash the flying goblin which would pin point the location, he takes out another vial ready to throw another more directed attack

Ali heals Grimdoc and the fight continues.
Rufus fires an arrow, but it deflects off the magical defenses of the hovering man, but Grimdoc and Rhoswen manage to put two more arrows into him, then Sark singes him with another splash of alchemist fire. Though badly injured, he remains in the fight.
"Behold the power of the Great Swarmholio!" Fire missiles fly into the room and up at the alchemist, but are absorbed by a magical shield surrounding him.
"What?! Impossible! You... you! Someone tell him that is cheating!"

Just to check. My attack was a natural 20, supposedly it hits regardless of the AC. He has some other protection magic on, is that it?

with my dice rolling i think i will just throw at the ceiling its only thing i seem to be able to hit anyways.
Sark throws another vial at the ceiling above the flying foe, barely hitting where he aims, he thinks some witch must have curse him for the amount of misses he had in this place.

SEE this is a joke!

DM Rah |

Sark splashes the man with more fire, then Grimdoc puts an arrow solidly into his chest. The alchemist takes a wheezing breath, then passes out and slowly drifts to the ground.
COMBAT OVER.
Searching the man you find few items of interest soon identified by Ali and Swarmholio. He carried a potion of cure moderate wounds, a wand of acid arrow (11 charges), 2 flasks of acid, 2 flasks of alchemist’s fire, a masterwork dagger, an iron key, a smokestick, a tanglefoot bag, a suit of studded leather, and a curious magical glass flask that looks similar to the alembics used by alchemists to distill various liquids, but this one is framed in a delicate silver brace and the glass is etched with various arcane runes. From notes in the man's lab you identify it as an Arcanolembic.
In addition to the gear carried by the alchemist, there are a few other valuables in this room. His alchemical setup is worth 500 gp if carefully transported out of the dungeon. Under the bed is a small chest containing his formula book (see below), a bag filled with 154 gp, 55 sp, and 82 cp, and a single dose of unguent of timelessness.
Formulae Book:
2nd—fire breath, invisibility, levitate, cat's grace
1st—bomber’s eye, cure light wounds, expeditious retreat, shield,
true strike, ant haul
Arcanolembic:
The arcanolembic can be used to hold one potion. When a creature consumes a potion from the arcanolembic, the potion is treated as if the caster level were 2 higher than the usual minimum for a potion of its level. Placing a potion into the arcanolembic is a full-round action.

Rhoswen slings her bow back over her shoulder. "Well, that was fun, wasn't it?" She tries to keep her spirits up. "Are you okay over there, Grim? The little hellion seemed to really get you a few times with his firebombs."
Rhoswen walks around and rummages through the alchemical equipment, afraid to touch anything. She picks up the key, "Say, this should come in handy!"
Of the different flasks and items, Rhoswen focuses on the tanglefoot bag. "Does anyone mind if I take this? They can really come in handy for keeping enemies in place."
She looks around and spots the door in the western wall, so she tries the key on it.

Yea, hilarious. The well cooked halfling says.

The door appears safe. Opening it, you find a passage heading west to a T intersection that connects back to the main hall to the north. Here, opposite a bench in the center of a room are a pair of stone statues set into alcoves, each one looking like a vaguely humanoid collection of gears and blocks. Unlike the other statues in this place, these appear to be mostly intact.
Further west, the passage opens up into a ruined workshop of some kind.
