Totally exhausted, the Mariner only has the strength and aim to hit something that's already dead. "Let's make sure the son-of-a-b@!@$ doesn't come back" he raises his longsword above Zandalus's neck. If no one gives him pause, Z gets a very close shave.

There is a telltale fear -the riddens of multiple chases through that monstrous city- in his voice. Brother Butterfly is scared, there is something wonky at work. Someone intentionally messing with the fabric of reality and dreams. Someone related to the color Yellow. Then there is The Tatterman who has proven that he can affect reality.

Moving himself and Mariner to be defensive with Cats, he speaks shakily to Fearless.
"SOMETHING is happening. Y-O-U, should be agreeing with me. If there's another in this group that should be cautious about what's in the shadows and lurking on mists --- It's FEARLESS!

Pointing at the halfling and then Zandalus's mace. With a half scared, half commanding voice.
"Please grab that Mace for me and GET IN DEFENSE FORMATION."

Cats looks at Mariner, then Pinkie, not understanding what Brother wants.

"What is Cat 4 Defense? Huh?" Cats keeps his bow ready, but already wiggles out of any position that Brother intends and begins a slow search of the Zandalus' space.

Take 20 Perception = 27.

"Calm the cat down, Brother. It's fine. I don't need to be butt to butt with anyone right now."

Brother Butterfly tries to warn the Watchmen that the danger has not yet passed, but Cats and Fearless refuse to believe him. Just to be sure, The Mariner beheads Zandalus, then steps away to be healed. Pinkie checks the headless body and finds a small sack with a four potions.

Meanwhile, Thick fog continues to pour from the stump of Zandalus' head and body, billowing out and filling the air around the corpse.

A raspy voice echoes in the room. "The artist was only a vessel from which my nightmares spawned. I will find another."

Suddenly, the shadowy, gaunt murderer from your dreams steps forth from the mist. The sickly fog clings to him and many of his tatters flutter freely and dissolve into mist. He looks down at Pinkie.

"Perhaps one of you will suffice..."

Everyone roll a will save vs DC 17 or become shaken.
Pinkie, roll a separate Will save vs DC 16 for become frightened. Even if you succeed at this save you are shaken for 1 round.

Shaken:
A shaken character takes a –2 penalty on attack rolls.

Frightened:
A frightened creature flees from the source of its fear as best it can. If unable to flee, it may fight. A frightened creature takes a –2 penalty on all attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks. A frightened creature can use special abilities, including spells, to flee; indeed, the creature must use such means if they are the only way to escape.

The Mariner nearly jumps out of his skin, reactively tosses the head in surprise.

He can feel two lumps in his throat, and it surely wasn't lunch coming back up. Swallowing them back down, he'd rather die fighting than turn into another play thing for the Tatterman.

Unbeknownst to Fearless his whole body begins to shake furiously from fright as the familiar voice from his dreams sounds. "It....It can't .....be..." His voice chatters as a controlled focus of psychic energy forms and bursts forth from his mind at the Tatterman.

He then moves close to the Tatterman to allow for flanking.

Pinkies eyes go wide as the vision from their dreams emerges and all of a sudden bolts twords the nearest exit.

Fearless is nearly paralyzed by fear at the sight of the Tatterman, but his mental powers react to the threat with force that knocks the nightmare creature's head back.

Despite the voices calling for him to fight, Pinkie chooses flight and scrambles to get away.

A feeling was building within Cats as Zandalus fell. Guilt had shadowed him from the moment he awoke in Briarstone, but a small glimmer of hope, like a candle flickering away the shadows, had persisted. Once before he had reached out for it and boldly struck at the evil in the asylum. Now, as dread and terror washes over the other Watchmen, he finds himself unafraid, with the light within him blazing like the sun. He hurls his alchemist fire, and the flame follows. The flask flies high, in a trajectory that will surely miss, but Cats wills it to drop, and somehow it does, bursting against the Tatterman's shoulder. The creature recoils at the attack. Cats rapidly fires an arrow, but it just barely deflects off some kind of magical force protecting the monster.

Brother Butterfly touches Fearless, offering Desna's luck before raising his shield and advancing to face his doom head on.

Flapping wings sound in the Mariner's ears as the Tatterman appears, but he finds a reserve of strength and resolve that only makes him tougher when others would flee in terror. Cutting down with his sword he slashes open the Tatterman's arm, and it roars in surprise at the wound.

"ARRGGHH! Behold mortals, for this one dies first!!"

Turning its full attention on the Mariner it lashes out with a long wickedly sharp war razor, then tears at him with a claw.

Brother Butterfly Activates the cure light wound wand with the command word, then moves around in a circle around objects to keep the Tatterman from clawing him and pulls out his mace.

I use the wand. No AoO because it's a command. Then I move 30 feet so I can help flank. Using the mace. - Mariner. I move before you. Please move to flank- that will give you +2 to hit. Also, add the +1 due to bless for an added +3.

CLW wand: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3


Fearless' mental block (of masonry) zips across the room and strikes the Tatterman in the chest, but he seems to recover almost instantly. Cats sticks him with two more arrows that have little effect as well. DR

Brother Butterfly taps the Mariner with a healing wand, but the magic only manages to partially mend his wounds.

The Mariner swings his sword again, but his resolve had faded and fatigue affects his aim as well causing him to miss.

Down the hallway, Pinkie hides himself in a dark corner behind the rubble in a patient's room.

Hissing through his jagged teeth, the Tatterman steps forward, his wounds starting to knit back together as he advances on the Mariner and raises his blade to attack.

BB sees the wounds and what is affecting The Tatterman. He wonders why some weapons are working and arrows are not.

He then moved into position to help flank.


The fatigue of rage finally passes, feelings returning to the fingers as the Mariner catches his second wind. The emotional stress of the day was tolling though, mustering up any more berserk was just beyond. So he fights on, thankful for Brother's healing, and for Fearless Pinkie Cat's artillery.

The Tatterman is somewhat unique, but after facing him for a couple rounds I think a dungeoneering check could help. Roll it if you got it.

Another bolt of psychic energy erupts from Fearless' mind as it slams into the dream killer.

"By Cat! Why won't my bow work!?" Cats seems worried. He reaches down for another alchemist fire...but then remembers that Brother took them.

"Brother! Give me the fire flasks! Or start catting them!"

We really need a few more magic weapons...and a magic bow, clearly.

"Mariner, cat his back to me," Cats says, preparing to draw his short sword.

The Tatterman is battered by another blast of psychic energy from Fearless, and this time Cats arrows seem to have at least some effect on the thing as well. Magic missile was effective, but Cats' only got 1 hit for a tiny amount of damage

Down the hall, Pinkie slowly recovers his nerves.

Brother Butterfly channels healing power, keeping the Mariner on his feet to fight on.

Catching a second wind, the Mariner wounds the Tatterman again with his sword, and the injury does not seem to immediately regenerate.

Roaring in rage, the Tatterman steps away from Brother Butterfly and focuses his wrath on the one man who seems to pose a real threat.

Cats swallows deep and recognizes his bow isn't going to 'cut' it in this fight. He offers a quick prayer...to...to...

Sarenrae? Are you there? It's me, Cats. You don't know me...but...but maybe you'll forgive me for what I've done in the past? Maybe you'll forgive me? Maybe I'll find redemption through you, like Brother says. Maybe, Sarenrae?

Also, I could use your help here against the Catterman. Don't let me die. Please. I need more time to fix things.

Fearless - You may need to grab this wand and work on healing Mariner at the same time Desna is!

While holding the Mace in his hand and the wand in the off hand - he advances upon The Tatterman - boxing him in. Looking for that opening where The Tatterman either ignores him for a brain shot or the large man distracts enough to give his allies an opening.

Begone Denizen of Dreams! Begone you leach, attaching your vile teeth into Zandalus. Desna has her champion!

Fearless' stone continues to hum past, smashing at the Tatterman.

Finally gathering his nerve Pinkie realizes his friends may still need his help and with the sounds of battle ahead he rushes back as fast as he can.

"Ok he got us that time....Ran us off like scared kittens.....no hes a Cat not a kitten.....yes i know even the little guy didn't run....do you have anything helpful to say?....I said helpful not hurtful.

The Mariner swings away, parrying, dodging, slicing, thrashing the longsword in a big X pattern. "Now - Cats!" he leaps to press the Tatterman into Cats.


Taking Brother Butterfly's wand, Fearless moves closer to the fight and makes ready to try and use it. His attention split, the stone flying about misses the Tatterman.

Pinkie arrives to find Cats has filled in during his absence, jumping past the Tatterman to stab at its flank. Both take injury in the exchange.

Damage: 1d4 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

Brother Butterfly channels more healing energy, quickly undoing the damage done to Cats and bolstering the Mariner. Down the hall Pinkie feels warmth healing his injuries as well.

Cats takes a slice...but feels its worth it when he strikes and is healed by Brother. He tries the same trick again, rolling away into flank (waiting for Mariner) and then striking.

Huffing and puffing, Brother Butterfly looks over exerted. The divine energies have come and almost gone from his body. Desna is still with him - as she will always travel alongside him - but her guiding voice is muffled.

So, with that, he abandons trying to channel the spiritual energies of healing and instead looks to give The Mariner that one last burst of aid.
Fearless, I may need that wand back! I am tapped. If you have a potion ready to heal Mariner- that'd work too.

BB waits for the Mariner to advance upon his foe. Moving within arms length. Reaching out with his left hand touching Mariner and grabbing the wand from Fearless with his right grabbing the object with his move action.

I used all my spells except True Strike. That's a domain and I can't sacrifice it for a heal. This last spell was my 8th luck.


The Mariner is in serious pain, just about ready to surrender to the Tatterman if he'd agree to stop hitting him with that war razor. Brother better be praying really hard!

Pinkie rushes in seeing Mariner bleeding badly moves in behind him urging him to withdraw

"Back up big guy you look like hell well take over for a bit"

and he pulls out his magic eye and pops it into his mouth

Fearless gets distracted as Pinkie eats his eyeball. Cringing he tries to keep on target, ducking and weaving trying to get closer to the Mariner when suddenly the wand is snatched from his hands. "Make up your mind!"

Fearless looses the wand faster than he gained it, and though he doesn't know what to do, his mind continues to assault the Tatterman on its own, flinging the rock around the room. Unfortunately, the rock misses its target.

Pinkie moves rejoins the fight as Cats dives past the Tatterman again to stab at his side. Again, he they exchange blows, and again, both suffer injuries.

Calling one last time on Desna's favor, Brother Butterfly passes her luck to the Mariner, who uses it well in an attack that pierces the Tatterman's abdomen.

Mariner, thanks for the correction. HPs are back up to 12/40. Also, ability score damage doesn't work like it did in 3.5, which means you don't have a penalty to AC yet.

Ability Score Damage, Penalty, and Drain:

Diseases, poisons, spells, and other abilities can all deal damage directly to your ability scores. This damage does not actually reduce an ability, but it does apply a penalty to the skills and statistics that are based on that ability.
For every 2 points of damage you take to a single ability, apply a –1 penalty to skills and statistics listed with the relevant ability. If the amount of ability damage you have taken equals or exceeds your ability score, you immediately fall unconscious until the damage is less than your ability score. The only exception to this is yourConstitution score. If the damage to yourConstitution is equal to or greater than yourConstitution score, you die.

I know we've been keeping character info secret, but does anyone have an issue with putting their AC and Perception bonuses under their alias?

I'm confused on how Pinkie got to where he is north of the tatter man. It looks like he's maneuvering to flank but I'm not sure. With the corrected HP I will stay in another round. Just move me to the flanking spot

With five more people joining the melee, the Mariner finally gets lucky without Desna, or maybe it only seems that way.

Emboldened and certain that Sarenrae will help him, he moves again to flank. Not sure I need to tumble if Pinkie just moves 5' up, but if necessary...

With the wand in his hand, and thankful that Desna placed such important pieces on the chessboard at such opportune times.
He speaks the command word. Doing his best to keep The Mariner standing on his feet and swinging the sword.

Seeing the Mariner actually dodge a cut from that razor - he is almost giddy.

Fearless continues to shake and cower. Not able to do much else in this situation. Out of bolts he grips the cultists dagger in his hands as sweat forms on his brow. Small stone continue to float and zip across the chamber, though it looks as if it is the Tatterman's doing.

Brother Butterfly encourages the Mariner and does his best to heal his wounds, but the wand just isn't as poweful as his faith in Desna.

Dripping blood from a half dozen half-healed wounds, the Mariner puts it all on the line and makes one last desperate swing. His longsword arcs down and cleaves deeply into the Tatterman.

The creature wails and crumples to the ground, unmoving...

Jumping for joy (okay, maybe only 1 inch off the ground), Brother Butterfly gives an enthusiastic "Whoop!" and YEAH!.

He didn't believe this outcome was even possible. The side of his brain that is more rational and less "Desna'd" was thinking they were going to get carved up like totem figures by this monstrocity.

BB - knowing the need for healing. Uses the wand to give The Mariner some more aid in closing the wounds. but also moves to the ground to check the vitals of The Tatterman. There are answers to be had. Mystical, planar answers if this thing was still alive.

If the Tatterman was still alive, Cats removes all doubt with a thrust of his shortsword through its evil heart. As he pulls the sword free of the body he notices a shaft of light on the floor nearby, cast from a crack in the wall nearby.

Outside the sun is shining.
