The Mariner yanks a couple of rats off as he breaks loose to the far end and up the ladder.

Brother Butterfly heals his companions again. Fearless leaps to another bookshelf. The Twin moves to slash at the rats swarming over his serpent, but is unable to get any with his dagger.

Mariner need to make a save.
Mariner Fort vs Distraction: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 Nausea reduces you to a move action, which doesn't get you up onto the bookshelf.

With rats clinging all over him The Mariner runs blindly through the library, careening off bookshelf and tables trying to escape the swarm. He gets to the ladder, but is overtaken before he can climb.

Cat's fires an arrow into a thick group of rats, skewering a few, but not quite dispersing them.

Pinkie runs into the library, heading for a ladder.

Why do these filthy things keep coming after me?! It's like they have a secret ability to detect the cleanest person in our group.
Fearless must have smeared feeces on himself. He seems reasonably safe.

Seeing that a swarm that the snake has been attacking is dispersing, Brother Butterfly moves to get away from this pack and to use SuperSnake as a buffer.

Hey SuperSnake, keep this vector apocolypse off of me, and Desna will make certain we survive this Ratmagedon.

He moves back after shooting to get away from the rats at his feet.

"GET THEM OFFFFF!!!!, the Mariner having just barffed all over himself runs over to Brother, caring less about the bites than getting them off.

Fearless shakes as he hears screams all around him. His hands tremor in fright and uncertainty as he grabs out his only vial of acid ffrom his tattered pouch and prepares to chuck it at the orange swarm of rats crawling all over the Twin.

He calls out to the Twin as he waves the vial high into the air.. "Get outta there fool!" If the Twin moves out Fearless will hurl the acid.

Pinkie moves up the ladder and draws his weapons as he advances on to rat creature taking a swing at the creature to test its defenses.

Fearless calls to the Twin and waits for him to clear out before throwing a vial of acid into the swarm near the doors.

The Twin starts to say respond with something rude to Fearless, but the number of rats clawing and biting at him sends him scurrying out the door instead. His Snake withstands the attacks and gobbles up a half dozen rodents which causes the remaining swarm to run off.

Once the Twin is out of the way Fearless hurls his acid dead center in the swarm at the doors, killing a handful of the rats within.

Gathering his wits, The Mariner runs from the third swarm, crossing the library to be healed by Brother Butterfly.

From outside the library doors Cats fires another arrow, killing another book.

Pinkie scales a ladder and tries to stab one of the ratlings, but the little creature dodges out of the way.

The ratlings direct their rat swarms, one of which catches Brother Butterfly and the Mariner.

One of the ratlings directs a startlingly loud screech at Pinkie, rattling his nerves.

Pinkie roll a DC 12 will save vs fear or become frightened for 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 rounds. If the save succeeds, you are instead shaken for 1 round.

The Twin wipes his mouth as he swipes off the drool off with his sleeve as he moves up next to Cats. "I thought you use a rapier." he says non-chalantly.

The Snake, eating some more of the rats, sees the remaining swarm and hisses in delight as its belly wriggles from the trapped rats.

The Mariner staggers from the rising mound of rats again. Grabbing his polearm by both hand he swings it wildly like a scythe across the bushels of vermin.

Pinkie turns pale with fright and tries to put as muchdistance between himself and the Ratman as he can.


Brother Butterfly calls upon Desna to guide his hand and readies mace. Fearless fires his crossbow, but the bolt misses the rats. The Twin withdraws from the room, letting his serpent chew up part of another swarm. Grabbing his pole arm, the Mariner swings wildly, knocking a shelf of books to the ground. Trying to avoid the Twin, Cats finally proves he's not completely useless with his bow and mousers a few rats with an arrow. Pinkie flees in fright.

Following the chittering commands of the ratlings, the swarms converge upon Brother Buttefly and the Serpent.

With am raised and mace at the ready, BB steeles himself for the rushing rats. But he doesn't realize that the carnal wave of claws, tail and toothy maws would unnerve him. biting and tearing him ferociously, BB can only think to move to get out of this room.

Even though he is filled with holy might and keen senses know exactly whee he should stike to disperse rats, he is feeling weak from the injuries and in a moment of spiritual weakness - he flees instead.

He makes his move outside the room. Grabbing a CLW scroll fom a belt pouch and putting away his {now} useless mace.

Cats was shooting at the actual orange rat, rather than the swarm. Arrows weren't doing cat to the swarm.

He jumps over the swarm to move inside and shoots again the orange rat.

Since the swarms moved through the Snake's area of threat, does he get an attack of opportunity?

Overwhelmed by the swarms of rats, the Snake slithers away from the party and down the corner of the bookshelf, moving below the yellow-eyed ratling. He hisses violently at the rats as he feels the ones he's swallowed trying to escape.

"Hmm... Well that was quite rude." the Twin says as he steps forward and throws one of his non-magical daggers, trying to impale the other swarm with the aid of the group's help.

He keeps his magical blade at the ready, in case the swarm closes in on him and he gets an opportunity to slash at the rats.


The Twin asked a question that, until now, I never even considered. It seems that swarms provoke attacks of opportunity when they enter an occupied square. This would mean that we've missed a few AoOs, so let's try to correct. Brother Butterfly can take 1 AoO (and benefit from his True Strike), Mariner gets 2 AoOs, and the Twin's Snake gets 2 AoOs. Brother Butterfly, restore 1 Channel Energy use.

Cats, I will redirect that last shot a the orange ratling.

Ok, some adjustments. The orange swarm was defeated by BB and Mariner's AoOs, so BB avoided taking 5 damage. That also means he was not distracted, which means he is owed an action. He's on the road but left me instructions.

Brother Butterfly and the Mariner smash and cut apart one of the swarms. While the Mariner heads for the ratling above, Butterfly charges across the library and swings his mace at the last remaining swarm.

Charge vs swarm: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 8

Butterfly's mace lands right amidst the largest pile of rats, batting a half dozen across the room and scattering the rest.

The Twin moves in to hurl a dagger, but fumbles and drops it. His serpent hacks and spits rat fur, unable to help in the fight for a moment.

Seemingly recalling the right technique for using his bow, Cats sinks another arrow into the ratling on the western bookshelf.

@Pinkie: the ratling that was the source of your fear has vanished. You are still frightened, but there is nothing to run from for the moment.

Fearless breathes a small sigh of relief as the swarms are scattered back among the books. Kneeling down he reloads and levels his crossbow.

"Twin! One of 'em is sneaking up on your card snake." He fires his crossbow near the yellow-furred ratling in an attempt to distract it.

Pinkie cowers near the northern door, afraid to return to the fight.

Fearless fires a bolt that causes the ratling on the eastern bookshelf to duck, throwing it off balance. However, the creature seems uninterested in making a physical attack and instead scampers along the bookshelf and uses some innate magic on the Twin's serpent in a frightful display of glowing red eyes and spine tingling screeches.

The ratling's movement provokes an AoO from the Twin's serpent. After moving the ratling uses a spell-like ability for cause fear on the Serpent, which needs to make a will save vs DC 12 or be frightened for 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 rounds.

Having taken injury from a couple arrows and finding itself the target of the Mariner's wrath the ratling on the western bookshelf concentrates for a moment and fades from sight.

As it does another ratling appears as it lands on Cats' shoulder and tries to bite at his neck.

"What was that horrible noise.....I didn't see you staying around....thats besides the point....yea staying with everyone is probably a good idea.....I wonder whats behind it also but it will have to wait."

Has the tide of battle really changed so dramatically? Can my hopes actually be realized?

Then BB sees Cats do a nice tumbling move, but overcompensates. Instead of landing and bracing his body to use as a foundation for the arrow shot, his knees flex too much. Sending his arrow shot not just wide, but towards the ceiling!

Cringing at the terrible shot, BB thinks more to himself - I'd better not count my Roc eggs before they are sold at market for a 300% profit.

Concentrating, he lets loose a ring of healing energy to wash over everyone except the injured orange Ratling.

The Snake lashes out at the ratling as it flees, trying to harm it.

As the ratling scurries away, the Snakes houses and tries to follow, hoping to overcome the fear.

The Twin moves up next to Brother Butterfly and stabs at the other enemy from around the corner. "Stay out of harm's way, Brother! " he yells.

The Serpent catches the ratling as it tries to escape, snatching it from the top of the bookshelf and holding it in its jaws! As tiny creatures ratling's CMD are not good, which also allowed your second bite attack to hit - assuming it was maintaining grapple.

Calling again upon Desna, Brother Butterfly continues to heal his companions. Fearless fires off another arrow to distract the ratling near Cats, but it does not come close enough to help the half-elf.

The Twin gives his snake leave to start eating its captured ratling while he advances and stabs the one on the ground to the west.

The Mariner swings his bill, but the blade misses by inches.

Diving away from the ratling trying to bite him, Cats fumbles a shot, shooting an arrow high into the rafters.

Spotting the ratling that is the source of his fear, Pinkie ducks back behind a bookshelf.

The ratling on the ground looks up at the Twin and hisses, its eyes glowing.

"Mariner, keep this one off me while I help Twin's magical friend! Everyone group back up. The rats are gone but more of their masters are climbing out of the books!"

Use tactician. Everyone but Pinkie gains the Covering Fire Teamwork Feat for 3 rounds.

Fearless reloads his crossbow as he tries to fend off the ratling as he nears the edge of the shelf.

The Snake keeps the ratling trapped in his fangs as he thrashes about, trying to end the life of his prey, coiling his body around the vermin-turned-humanoid.

As the Twin stabs the ratling from around the corner, the creature lets loose a blast of magic and bares its fangs at the man. The glowing rune on his forehead falters slightly as the harrow card shuffler's eyes widen. "F%#+ THIS SHIT! GOOD LUCK!" he yells as he turns tail and runs back into the admissions hall.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"


With the exception of a few of his own scratches, Brother Butterfly's healing powers restore everyone's strength! Fearless jumps back from the ratling and gives everyone some tactical advice. The Twin makes a tactical retreat while his Serpent bites down hard on the ratling in its teeth. Suffering from a streak of bad luck, the Mariner can't seem to get the angle right to land a blow from his polearm. Cats suffers similar problems, his arrow flying just to the side of the tiny ratling on the ground.

Still fearful of the ratling that hissed at him, Pinkie angles around the bookshelves.

The ratling on the ground turns and scampers north through the library, turning a corner and moving out of sight. The one between Fearless and the Mariner jumps back and vanishes!

The ratling in the Serpent's mouth screeches and tries to use its innate magic on the eidolon, but cannot focus long enough to employ its magic.

Concentration vs DC 20: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18

The last ratling continues trying to bite the Serpent's tail.

Bite vs Serpent AC 19: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16

As the Twin flees, he runs around like a chicken with his head cut off, running back into the library and slamming into a bookcase. You see that he has somehow lost his tunic and his chain shirt, running around without a shirt.

The dazed man stumbles backwards and sees the scene of horror before him and runs off into the asylum once more. "Help me, Ospra-Winnahprey!" yells the man as he disappears from sight.

Cats waits for Pinkie to cower someplace else other than his line of fire. When Pinkie moves, Cats will 5' step and shoot at yellow, hopefully unseen.

"Cat out of the way, Pinkie! You're throwing off my aim!" Cats shoots at yellow (no, not the puddle under Pinkie's feet), no, the *other* yellow (no, not Twin's yeller back), but the yellow ratling.

1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 5 + 1 = 11 to hit;
1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 damage +1d6 ⇒ 1 extra vs.previous stealth: 19.

"Rats," Cats carps as he arrow goes wide.

The Twin runs for his life. His snake bites down one more time then opens its mouth and swallows the now limp ratling.

Jumping down from the bookshelves, the Mariner misses his footing and crashes to the ground.

Cats pokes his head around a bookshelf and set get down at a ratling behind the Serpent. He has the creature dead to rights, but his shot is just terrible.

Pinkie finally overcomes his fear.

Appearing in the bookshelf to the north, a ratling hisses and uses its fear magic upon Brother Butterfly.

BB Save vs DC 12 or frightened for 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 rounds.

The ratling behind the snake squeaks in alarm and attempts to use its magic, but fails!

BB tries a save. Is this a will save? I'm at work, but I think it's really high. +7 (wisdom +second level cleric

Scrambling back off his prone position, BB stands up and starts moving.
In any normal situation, he'd look just like The Twins all freaked out and paniced. But BB has a few things going for him. First, he doesn't have hair to stand straight on end from fright. Second, he's slow. Painfully slow in his armor. Just the time it takes him to get up from his laying down position - The Twins is already sprinting towards Lady Winter and jumping in her arms. In the few seconds elapsed time, he's only at the top of the stairs, turning his body to start a descent.

For most people, this would be a casual walk to get INTO the combat. But BB is SLOOOOOWWW.


"Osprey?!" the Mariner hears the Twin, jerks up looking at the ceiling as he takes a step off the ledge and into empty air. ::kKRASHHH!::

"Owwww....." he gets up, reeling dizzy from the nosedive, then charges at the ratman.
