The onslaught from the mages is just too much. One takes BB's head and smashes it against a box- not once but twice! His head rings and then the magic missiles smash into his bulbus body. The large man drops to the ground, bruised and unconscious.

The two crits are what did it. at -1/94 HP's. Stabalization roll - con: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 DC 11


Sorry, small Retcon: Cats’ shots took down Orange, so I think BB is still up. Also, applying Mariners attack to Red since Orange is down.

A flurry of arrows and attacks fly about the room. One mage falls, and BB staggers, almost falling himself. The Mariner slashes up another mage as he works to get to Brother Butterfly.

The robotic red mage still grabs Brother Butterfly by the head and smashes it repeatedly into the crates located in this room. Boom. Boom.
But BB has a hard head and is able to keep his wits just long enough to cry out to his Goddess for some healing help.
DESNA! It's your biggest fan! Some divine intervention here. Please!

He channels again. Hoping to not have to use his biggest Desna playing card- a heal spell- just yet. He expects to need that for the center chamber below.

The Red mage continues to manhandle Brother Butterfly. While in a headlock, the wizard sweeps his legs out from under the big man. 260 pounds of bigness come crashing down. The mage holding out it's knee for the cleric's midsection to land on. BB getting the wind knocked out of him. The WWF crowd goes wild. Jim McMahon counts his millions in gate receipts.

He tries to say something, but is gasping for air. He'd say something insolent like, but instead just gets out of there with a Bamf and left behind smell.

Having been mauled for a solid 18 seconds, BB asks for more healing.

Nice shot Cats! That mage is starting to look like a porcupine!

But Whoa, what do we have here? The two a$!&*@%s coming up the rear in standard one by one formations!

Fearless! Can you close the door?!

BB is going to delay to see if Fearless closes the door. Contingent action - If not, he'll bamf over there with Dimensional Hop and try it himself. @Gm roll my dex save at a hilarious -5 acrobatics (only 8 dex).
If Fearless does, BB will move and reach over giving luck to Mariner.

Fearless grabs the door slamming it shut, He strains holding it shut with all his might as he holds his back to the door. "I can't hold this for long" He screams out as his feet slip and slide in the grease.

The Mariner swings, but fails to cut through the red mage’s shield spell. Cats shoots blue, damaging it badly. Fearless holds the door and Butterfly gives the Mariner some luck for next time.

Sheesh! I haven't sees three people more black and blue from so much pummeling. I'm heavily bruised, Mariner's heavily bruised, Cat's is heavily bruised. Hmmmm.... which of these things *are NOT* like the other.
He gives an accusatory look at the small person holding the door closed from the muck monsters.
He does look each of his Watchmen up and down to determine who is in greatest need of his healing.

"Quit walking into their fists then shapeshifter!" Fearless strains and slips against the door as the slimes keep pushing. He pulls out a small wand and sends a couple magical missiles into the wounded clockwork.

Jasper moves around the battlefield. The haste that Fearless gave all Watchmen making his movements clear large swaths of footage - even though BB never seems to run or move fast. He's the definition of a plodder. Being hasted is a juxtaposition that only magic could explain.

His movements get him to Mariner without provoking.
Once standing next to Mariner,he unleashes a magic word that is important to Desna. A word of power, and the effects of The Word makes it's presence and impact immediately known to all within the room.

And an angelic hum in concert with a cadre of scintillating colors moves from Jasper's palm into the shoulder of Mariner. The transformation is instant as Desna's most potent powers are infused into Mariner-
His body, his mind, his vigor is restored in a nano-second.

The kaleidoscopic effect fades, the humming of angels cease, but the effects on Mariner are potent and permanent.

Mariner, you'z got'z yourselves a HEAL spell. Up to 120 HP's worth of instant healing and insanities cured.


The Watchmen give one last furious push against the clockwork mages, sparks and gears and glass flying from arrow, magic, and sword. Finally the last two fall to the onslaught!

Meanwhile, the door holds back the eldritch oozes outside..

Good job! Combat over! I’ll let you heal and recover before pressing on.

Cats takes a breath to heal and recover before moving on. "Oh man, I cat bloody cat guts on my tunic! And why are these guys even in the library. This place makes no sense. Can we go back to the Hounds of Catdilos. At last they made sense." Cats clearly is misthinking things are the Hounds make no sense at all, and live in catting corners of existence.

He will take out a wand and heal himself up.

I have a feeling that through this portal is where The Necronomicon and Haserton Lowls should be. Desna would like to protect us for this final push. Kast, do you wish to have heartier constitution? The kind that could allow you to guzzle a pint of Hagfish slime from Sandpoint?

The Mariner takes his last cleave against the clockwork agents, then kneels to the ground in a pulp of blood, mucus and excrement. In a huffing drunken drawl, "Yeah man... I'm good to go... let's do this... right meow... hey man, look, a unicorn"

The Mariner took 154 damage, out of 200 raging hp. Dropping out of rage leaves him at 2/156. Jesse Ventura "I ain't got time to bleed". He's got two CSW potions, unless BB is going to do some serious half time mid court massages.

Don't worry Mariner, on Tuesday I gave you a full on HEAL Spell. you have 122/156 HP.

Awesome - Sorry didn't see that after Cat's post.

The Mariner yanks one of the two energy drink vials off of the lanyard around his neck and hands it to Brother with a thanks. "How do we feel about pressing forward? Everyone ready?" He checks his bits, weighs his character, then nods ready.


The Watchmen tend to multiple cuts, bruises, and black eyes given to them as they went 5 rounds against the rock ‘em, sock ‘em robot mages. Meanwhile, the sounds of slurping thuds against the door subside and it seems like the eldritch oozes might have moved on to find other heroes to eat.

The Watchmen buff up with spells and eventually turn the head of the last angel. A grinding is heard…

..and then they realize the entrance must lie elsewhere as Brother Butterfly’s find the path spell directs them back into the hallways.

Time to dodge the oozes again and get to the true entrance.

I regret that I made a mistake. I made an assumption that this statue would lead down. That is not the case. My Goddess instructs me that the way to our desired entrance is back out of this room.
Her blessings are finite, so I implore my fellow Watchmen to get a move on and avoid entanglements with the oozes. Maybe we can avoid them.

Brother butterfly, when prompted to give directions on the way to go, points his finger towards the appropriate pathway.

That way has the smell of old money, deranged lunatic, and a pungent level of desperation. Since our group only fits two of those three smells, it's easy to separate out the old money smell of Count Hasserton Lowls III.


Brother Butterfly’s spell leads takes the Watchmen just outside the door to the room they were in. The third angelic gate stands open in the center of this level, and the group quickly descends before the oozes wander back their direction.

Beneath the gate is a shaft 30 feet deep, its walls carved with statues of angels wearing fixed, expressionless masks. Climbing down using the wings as steps and handholds, the Watchmen come to a curious chamber a little over thirty feet to a side. Instead of normal walls, hundreds of statues of angelic beings, many bearing spears and other weapons and others wearing two-colored masks, make up the walls of this chamber. The uneven floor is formed from carved faces. At the heart of the room is a single object supported by a quartet of stone hands—a peculiar, slightly rusted iron cube about a foot square.

The cube is puzzle box featuring symbols and images representing creation and destruction on its sides, and has a series of movable, concentric rings on the top bearing smaller symbols that correlate to the images on the sides. The symbols are sometimes sigils, sometimes words in different languages, and at other times simply images that represent things such as serpents, phoenixes, bolts of lightning, an infant, laborers building a structure, warfare, a flowing river, a scouring wind, a blazing fire, moldering fungi, and fruiting plants.

There are some linguistics and intelligence checks normally required to solve the puzzle box, but find the path seems capable of giving instructions, so you can open it at your leisure.


This is when Pinhead usually shows up.

The Mariner scratches his head, not from thinking the puzzle but itching at a scabby rash. Pulverizing the lament cube with a warhammer is his obvious solve, so he waits for the brains to get it open without breaking it.

If I'm not thinking with my unscabbarded sword, I'm always thinking on it's behalf!
Putting aside double entendre and phallic symbols on a cube, manipulating the faces on this iron box are what's required to enter the inner sanctum. Adjusting it by putting the serpent in the hole is exactly the way to make us happy.

Fearless twists and turns the strange device with Butterly's guidance. "You sure it is supposed to look like this?" He asks as a mechanism springs out.


Following divine instructions your align the rings on the top of the cube to the correlating images of creation and destruction on opposite sides.

A strange grating sound echoes from within, and the cube starts to slowly expand outward with a low hum to form a 1-foot-tall, 10-foot-wide platform with a 5-foot-square entrance in the top surface. The entrance is totally dark, obscuring any sight into the extradimensional space within.

Cool and crisp air rises from the dark and a faint scent of burning parchment teases the nose.

This is the entrance to the Soul. If you need any other prep, now is the time.

Ready to go. A bit low on spells, but I have my highest levels still available.


I think we definitely should rest up. Get the full max before going in. This is IT, if it is it. Facing Lowl on a point less is probably a bad idea given the GM's hint. I imagine expedite to morning, the gate isn't going any where. Posting for the post-nap.

The Mariner runs through his faint list of readiness, Limbering Up with #18 and cracking his neck. When he reaches #22 - When in Doubt, Know Your Way Out, he asks Brother, "So is this a one way trip?". He said it with a degree of morose acceptance. This castle raiding adventure will one day end surely in his own demise. "In case we get instantly incinerated, I want you to know, I hate you all." With a boyish wink, he nods ready.

Ok, sounds like a rest is in order. Lucky you, no random encounters on this level with the ooze keeping the halls clear. Let’s assume you recast spells and I’ll push forward in a little bit.

Hey Mariner, A couple weeks ago, you put a box of wines into your bag that holds many items. You think you can pull that out and we'll break open a bottle of one of those wines. Or maybe two bottles of wine?

Brother rethinks that course of action. The last time he "opened a bottle" for some sex and relaxation was in Razmiran and he couldn't help himself for weeks as he went on bender after bender.
On second thought, maybe having a bottle in this situation isn't the wisest action. You can keep the box in your bag. I'd actually prefer that you keep it out of my mind's eye.

BB sleeps and is refreshed, but quickly kicks himself for telling Mariner to not break out the wine bottles.
