Kinda back from the holidays, though I probably won't be on a regular schedule for another week!
Lily starts small - she gestures with one hand, holding a pinch of fur, and makes a tiny gesture like a mouse cleaning its paws.
Casting cause fear on the easternmost elephant. Will save, DC 19.
Jaed Zandorias |
Jaed continues to move closer to the enemy. Double move
Using the light emanating from his swords he tries to see if there are more attackers hiding in the brushes.
Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (15) + 13 = 28
DM Puppet Master |
The only enemy you see is the tiger creature Jaed and Carrakas are going after.
Jaed and Carrakas continue to move towards the tiger source of arrows. Marzela meanwhile moves out into a clearer area next to Lily, who casts a spell that seems to have no effect on the nearest elephant.
Finnrick round 2 reflex save: 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 6 - 2 = 12
Finnrick str check: 1d20 + 1 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 1 + 3 = 11
Finnrick str check: 1d20 + 1 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 1 + 3 = 15
Finnrick reflex round 3: 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 6 - 2 = 21
Elephant Finnrick gets caught by the entangling vines once again. He struggles to get free and manages to eventually break loose but is unable to go anywhere.
Meanwhile, Bala zips out of the entangled area and begins encouraging the elephants to break free and move towards him.
Elephants Str: 5d20 ⇒ (16, 20, 17, 17, 11) = 81
Elephants Reflex: 2d20 ⇒ (5, 6) = 11
The tiger creature growls as Jaed struggles towards him through the underbrush. He steps towards the rogue, apparently unaffected by the thick underbrush as he lashes out with a bite and two claws.
Bite: 1d20 + 13 - 2 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 13 - 2 + 4 = 28
Bite damage: 2d6 + 5 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (5, 5) + 5 + 4 + 4 = 23 Plus a fort save
Claw 1: 1d20 + 12 - 2 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 12 - 2 + 4 = 25
Claw damage: 2d6 + 5 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (3, 6) + 5 + 4 + 4 = 22
Claw 2: 1d20 + 12 - 2 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 12 - 2 + 4 = 21
Party is up. And I will be back to my normally scheduled posting habits on Monday or Tuesday.
Carrakas |
Carrakas starts chugging forward toward the tiger creature, a determined look on his face. After moving west close enough, the earth swells underneath him, and he zooms around to the far side of their foe, his earthen hammer forming in his right hand. He twirls around, bringing his hammer down in a vicious strike toward the tiger man's back.
Move action to move a little closer, then blade rush with bludgeoning damage, power attack, and flanking with Jaed.
Attack, Blade Rush, Flanking, PA: 1d20 + 15 + 2 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 15 + 2 + 2 - 2 = 28
Damage, PA, bludgeoning: 4d6 + 9 + 4 ⇒ (5, 6, 1, 1) + 9 + 4 = 26
Jaed Zandorias |
Fort save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 What's the penalty for failing miserably?
Jaed grunts in pain when the teeth of the creature sink in his skin. "You are going to regret this," he spits back as he attacks back with his swords.
Flaming sword: 1d20 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 11 + 2 = 14
Frost sword: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 9 + 2 = 21
Flaming sword: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 6 + 2 = 10
Pretty nice rolls...
DM Puppet Master |
@Jaed: You do not notice any effect.
Carrakas lands a solid blow while Jaed swings wildly and ineffectively at the creature and an arrow/crossbow bolt harmlessly hits a nearby tree.
Finnrick the elephant trumpets at Lily before reaching out his trunk towards her. He stops short of touching or grabbing her though. Looking at his character sheet, I can't think of any obvious ways to help Lily (like by casting levitate or freedom of movement) or any way to communicate some of the less obvious options while in elephant form. I'll give updating another day in case Finnrick has an idea, or Lily wants to do something this turn. What Lily does this turn may also effect what would be most useful for Finnrick to try to do to help her.
Finnrick |
Hearing her voice, but having no way to communicate himself Finnian quickly casts Liberating Command [ooc]Immediate action to cast and Lily makes an escape artist check with a +16[ooc]
He then lets out a soft trumpet and lowers his trunk toward her.
Yeah what you did is what I would likely do and then as fast as he can across the entangled earth. 40 ft double move at half speed in the difficult terrain.
Now that he is a bit more awake Finnrick wonders what could have caused this and his mind immediately goes to a fellow druid. Could that tiger really be one of us? Or perhaps a friend, like Millsy
Millsy too leaps into action, but she heads around the back, away from the comotion and uses her keen nose to try to identify if others may be laying in wait.
Reflex: 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 6 - 4 = 12
STR: 1d20 + 1 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 1 + 6 = 25
[ooc]Huge takes a -4 DEX, +6 STR, also I have resists natures lure which gives a +4 against Entangle
DM Puppet Master |
Liberating command is only useful is someone is already grappled/entangled, so you don't actually cast it until Lily gets entangled and then makes an escape artist check (otherwise you just waste it since the duration is instantaneous). It was on my list of "options I have no way to communicate" since it only helps her if she decides to go through the entangled area.
Also, a -4 to Dex only imposes a -2 penalty. Similarly a +6 strength only gives you a +3 bonus. So your reflex save is successful, which is good because it's made at the end of the round, so you wouldn't be able to try to break free yet anyway.
DM Puppet Master |
Lily clambers on Finnrick's back as he begins lumbering through the entangled area towards the tiger man. Meanwhile Bala begins directing the elephant mounts south and away from the menace.
Entangled elephant Str: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
The foe in question continues to ignore the difficult underbrush, repositioning himself before once again attacking Jaed.
vs Jaed, AC 22
Bite: 1d20 + 13 - 2 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 13 - 2 + 4 = 31
Bite damage: 2d6 + 5 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (6, 3) + 5 + 4 + 4 = 22
Claw 1: 1d20 + 12 - 2 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 12 - 2 + 4 = 31
Claw 1 damage: 2d6 + 5 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (1, 4) + 5 + 4 + 4 = 18
Claw 2: 1d20 + 12 - 2 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 12 - 2 + 4 = 15
Party is up
Jaed Zandorias |
I will post Jaed's turn after everyone else. Depending on Carrakas' actions (does not make sense to attack if Jaed cannot move into a flanking position) and/or if he gets some heals, Jaed will risk another attack or retreat.
Carrakas |
Carrakas adjusts his position as well, and then a long tendril of electric energy forms in his right hand. He sends a couple of quick snaps forward towards their slippery opponent.
5-foot-step and full attack
Attack 1 vs Touch AC: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (1) + 15 = 16
Attack 2 vs Touch AC: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
Unlikely to be a hit, but hey, who knows.
Attack 2 Damage, electric: 4d6 + 2 ⇒ (3, 5, 2, 2) + 2 = 14
DM Puppet Master |
Carrakas, do you have an ability that allows you to ignore the difficult terrain and 5ft step (the enemy does)? The trees are naturally difficult terrain as opposed to the entangled area, which is magically difficult terrain.
Carrakas |
I do not, did not realize the trees were difficult terrain. Sorry. How do you want to handle this? Had I known it was difficult terrain, I would have instead blade rushed to the spot directly opposite Jaed, to allow him to get into flanking position. As my first roll was a 1, and thus a guaranteed miss, can we just pretend like I did that instead, and just adjust my position on the map appropriately? Or I can write up a new post with new actions. Or I can just keep the post as-is except the 5ft step fails. Let me know what you prefer.
DM Puppet Master |
Yeah, let's just update your position and assume you did the blade rush and missed initially.

Concentration (casting while on a moving mount): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
From atop Finn's back, Lily unleashes one of her more potent spells, causing the uncanny foe by Jaed and Carrakas to writhe as its bones snap and break.
Casting boneshatter; Fort save DC 22 for half damage. If it succeeds, fatigued; fails, exhausted.
Boneshatter damage: 8d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 4, 4, 2, 6, 3, 5) = 30
DM Puppet Master |
Fatigued: A fatigued character can neither run nor charge and takes a –2 penalty to Strength and Dexterity. Doing anything that would normally cause fatigue causes the fatigued character to become exhausted. After 8 hours of complete rest, fatigued characters are no longer fatigued.
I believe a negative level affects caster level, so the boneshatter would only be 7d6. I'll just ignore the last die rolled.
Fort save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Carrakas repositions himself, but missteps causing his whip to miss. Marzela likewise works on repositioning herself to get a better shot at the tigerman. Both Carrakas and Jaed can hear the audible cracking of the man's bones from Lily's spell. He grimaces slightly but remains standing.
Finnrick and Jaed still have actions
DM Puppet Master |
If you look at the text for restoration, you can only remove one negative level per week. It hasn't been a week since you left the city (which is the earliest it could have been cast), so you wouldn't have lost the second negative level yet (and can have back that money until it can be cast).
Finnrick |
Finnrick begins to cast a spell.
Millsy makes her way to Marzela.
Jaed Zandorias |
Jaed, on the brink of death and after seeing Carrakas miss his attack, retreats from the fight and moves in direction to the elephants. Withdraw action. Sorry guys, but another 40+ damage will effectively kill Jaed and I don't think it would be worth it in some random fight.

Finnrick begins casting a spell as Jaed bravely runs away and Bala continues to heard his elephants south. His prey too far away from him to reach, the tigerman lashes out at Carrakas before once more stepping away.

Marzela then shoots once more at their foe, but misses once again.
Jaed, Carrakas, Finnrick, and Lily are up.

The range on SNL is 65 ft so I think I can have my creature appear adjacent to the tiger man, and if he can be flanking with Carrakas that's what he will do.
From the darkness appears a tiger to fight the tiger man.
He claws and bites him attempting to grab on and pin his foe.
3 primary attacks of any hit he gets a free grab attempt. Not sure if he for goes the rest of the attacks on a grab?

AC 14 HP 57/57
Finnian the Mammoth stays put to not jostle his rider and casts Cat's Grace on Lily

Millsy protects Marzela, ready action to bite anyone who comes within range.
Carrakas |
Correct on the 22AC with blade rush
Carrakas grins as all of his foe's blows fail to land, and then grins even further as an actual tiger appears behind him. "My turn" he says, as an electric tendril trails out around him. He sends the whip blazing in, trailing little sparks of lightning as it goes.
Full attack with reach, flanking with Finnrick's tiger.

Didn't have time to post last night, but the enemy is still up and about, if anybody was worried. Lily and Jaed still have actions and Finnrick needs a reflex save vs entangled (we'll just say last round he succeeded since I forgot about it).
The tiger strikes out at the tiger man, but only manages to land one attack. It does manage to start a grapple though. Carrakas fairs better, managing to land both of his attacks. Millsy meanwhile wildly dashes to Marzela's side.
And suddenly I realize that with the CL decrease, even with overly optimistic positioning Lily wasn't actually close enough to have cast boneshatter. So I'm going to have her spend this round getting closer and pretend this round and last round were swapped. This does however mean that one of the opponents attacks would have hit Carrakas since he wouldn't yet have gotten the -1 from being fatigued.
Claw 2 damage on Carrakas: 2d6 + 5 + 4 ⇒ (2, 3) + 5 + 4 = 14
@Carrakas: It also looks like you're missing the 16 damage you took from round 1 of this combat before you put armor on.
As Lily performs shenanagans, Jaed dashes towards Marzela, skirting the edge of the entangled area and hoping the tiger and Carrakas would keep their foe distracted long enough for him to get past. Double move
Growling in frustration, the tiger man turns on the summoned animal, unleashing his fury on the creature and instantly killing it as he steps into the space the creature had just occupied.
vs AC 14
Bite: 1d20 + 13 - 2 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 13 - 2 - 1 + 2 = 24

Claw 1: 1d20 + 12 - 2 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 12 - 2 - 1 + 2 = 27
Claw 1 damage: 2d6 + 5 + 4 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (4, 3) + 5 + 4 + 2 - 1 = 17
Claw 2: 1d20 + 12 - 2 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 12 - 2 - 1 + 2 = 30
Claw 2, rending claws damage: 3d6 + 5 + 4 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (5, 4, 3) + 5 + 4 + 2 - 1 = 22
Party is up. Finnrick still needs his reflex save from the end of last round's entangle.
Indileth Amaneldth |
Lily whispers a quick "thank you" into Finn's large elephant ear as he pauses in the movement to help her cast spells from a stable position, then she frowns and launches another quick dark spell at the tiger-man.
Blindness, DC 20 Fort save or permanently blinded. This is medium range, so shouldn't be an issue.

The tiger man manages to shake off Lily's spell, but is distracted long enough to get hit by an arrow/bolt from Marzela.
@Marzela: You must have missed Jaed's tagline; he's at 3/88.
Jaed, Carrakas, and Finnrick still have actions
Carrakas |
Carrakas frowns as the tiger man continued to step away from him. He rushes down to be back by his foe once more, bringing his formed hammer down on his side.

Finnrick tries to break free of the vines.

Fatigued: A fatigued character can neither run nor charge and takes a –2 penalty to Strength and Dexterity. Doing anything that would normally cause fatigue causes the fatigued character to become exhausted. After 8 hours of complete rest, fatigued characters are no longer fatigued.
Carrakas blade rushes next to the tiger man, landing another solid blow. However, he gets the impression that it doesn't seem as effective as he would expect. Meanwhile Jaed and Finnrick move to safer area.
Now looking rather hurt, the tigerman withdraws. He has a 40ft move speed and isn't affected by the difficult terrain. Do you want to pursue/do you have any method of keeping up with him or do you want to let him go?
Finnrick |
so I do move to non entangled ground
Now that the earth isn't trying to constrain them Finnrick lowers is head and crouches down. His trunk goes up to his back and as gently as possible nudges Lily.
Marzela |
Marzela looks after the tigerman wishing they could stop him, because he was sure to show up later and likely give warning to the people they were trying to stop, but even with the bow's extended range, she doesn't know if she could do enough damage before he could get away.
She takes one more shot at him
Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
And then turns to Jaed, wondering if he is the only one that needs healing. She looks around to be sure.
If there is anyone else, I can channel. If not, I'll cast cure critical, and then cure serious... you can roll it for yourself Jaed if you want. It is 4d8+8, then 3d8+8. Then we'll see how much more you need (all provided we are out of combat of course).
Carrakas |
Carrakas growls at the retreating tiger man. "Coward..." He makes his way back over to the others, favoring his right leg slightly. "Well that was a fun wakeup call. Everyone alright?"
I am also injured, though not as much. I'm at 69/93.

I totally was a coward with regard to the Garuda. That thing was a beast.
Marzela channels twice to heal anyone who is hurt.
Channel: 12d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 3, 3, 2, 5, 6, 5, 6, 5, 6, 6) = 54
Then, since Jaed is still hurt after that, she lays her hands on him twice to help him more.

Thanks Marzela. I should've make it more clear that Jaed was seriously wounded.
"I'm feeling better now," Jaed answers after receiving the healing spells from Marzela. "I suppose we can resume now our rest. I can keep watch for a little longer if you wish."
And I agree with Marzela, the Garuda was a beast. We better think of a way of keeping him on the ground next time we cross path with him (because I'm sure there will encounter him sooner or later).
