Jaed Zandorias |

Jaed immediately stands up, runs towards the door and opens it.
"What's going on? Lily, are you okay?"
He then tries to figure out what's going on and identify possible threats.
Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14

DM Puppet Master |

Marzela rushes to the door and opens it, her ranged weapon at the ready. You wouldn't have enough actions to get to the door, open it, and shoot last round. Jaed does likewise, looking out. There looks to be a villager guard person next to Lily, and all the shouting seems to have gathered the attention of other villagers, who are all quickly approaching.
Carrakas takes advantage of the open door to blade rush out and smack the man assaulting Lily, immediately knocking him out.
Attack, blade rush: 1d20 + 15 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 15 + 2 = 19
Damage: 4d6 + 9 ⇒ (3, 1, 1, 4) + 9 = 18
The question as to friend or foe is quickly answered as the villagers rushing in dogpile on Lily and Carrakas.
Aid attempt 1 vs Lily: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Grapple Lily, 1 aid, flanked vs CMD 15: 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 6 + 2 + 2 = 22 Regular grapple

Grapple Carrakas, 6 aids, flanked vs CMD 25: 1d20 + 6 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 6 + 12 + 2 = 26
Forgot to mention, but the barricade-like things on the map aren't actually there, so ignore them.
Party is up. Both Carrakas and Lily are currently grappled. Also please note that the guy who looks like he's in the boys' cabin isn't; he's on ground level.

Jaed Zandorias |

"What the..." Jaed jumps from the hut (I think the DC is 15 so there is no need to roll) and attacks the closest villager.
Not 100% sure if flanking applies when an ally is grappled although according to this it does. Remove the bonuses if it does not.
Flaming sword, flanking: 1d20 + 13 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 13 + 2 = 35

Marzela |

Oops, sorry about too many actions.
Marzela yells to Bala that the villagers are enemies, hoping that he can hear her, and that he and the elephants are okay. She moves quickly down the ladder
Climb: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
and then shoots the villager between herself and Lily.
Attack: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 8 + 1 = 26
Damage: 1d8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 1 = 13

DM Puppet Master |

Jaed flips down from the hut, bringing his blade down on his foe as he descends, killing him. Marzela takes a more careful way down before aiming at her own target. The man grunts in pain as it hits, but remains standing.
Carrakas (grappled), Finnrick, and Lily (grappled) still have actions.

DM Puppet Master |

Carrakas Attack 1: 1d20 + 13 - 2 ⇒ (6) + 13 - 2 = 17

Damage 2: 4d6 + 9 ⇒ (6, 4, 6, 1) + 9 = 26
Not bothering to break the grapple, Carrakas lashes out at two more villagers, killing them both. Meanwhile Finnrick (who does not have an up-to-date prepared spells) carefully climbs down the ladder while pulling out his sling. Millsy leaps down from the hut and attempt to bite another villager. Her teeth sink in deeply, managing to knock the man down.

Carrakas |

Thanks for botting me, been a crazy work week! Question for DM - if I succeed in a concentration check to use Blade Rush, which is a spell-like ability, does that auto-break the grapple when I rush away?

DM Puppet Master |

@Marzela: Grappling says you can still perform a move action (as long as you're not actually moving), so yeah, I'd say you'd be able to draw a 1-handed or light weapon while grappled.
@Carrakas: You can blade rush, but you wouldn't actually be able to move anywhere since the pinned condition prevents that and it wouldn't break the grapple.

Jaed Zandorias |

It does not change the outcome in this case but thanks to "Improved Uncanny Dodge" Jaed cannot be flanked.
"Hey, no touching!" Jaed tries to escape from the grapple.
Escape artist: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (13) + 16 = 29
If that is successful Jaed will move closer to one of the villagers performing a grapple/pinning, preparing to attack next round. Could you please mark in the map which villagers are the grapplers before I decide where to move?

DM Puppet Master |

You successfully break free. The villagers who are still grappling have been outlined in red.

Jaed Zandorias |

Thanks. Moved Jaed in the map and here is the roll to avoid the AoO. Moving at normal speed so the DC is +5 for the first villager and +7 for the second.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 17 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 17 + 4 = 33

Marzela |

Wait, wait... honestly? I didn't even know you were hurt, only trapped. Yell and tell us what is wrong. If you need healing, I can reach you with a channel from where I am.
If Marzela can detect that Lily is on the edge of death in any way, then
Marzela channels, excluding the people actually doing the grappling.
Channel: 6d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 2, 2, 5, 4) = 20
If Lily looks okay, or there is no way for Marzela to know, then
Marzela swings awkwardly at the person grappling her.
Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
... Unfortunately, she can't get a good position to swing with the grapple, and just barely escapes burning herself with Sarenrae's fire.
Assuming no full-round attacks since part of my turn is just fighting to be able to move my arm at all.

DM Puppet Master |

Nobody is hurt. The villagers haven't done any damage. They've just been grappling people.

Carrakas |

Carrakas grows angry at the villager trying to hold him down. "Geddoff me!" He wrenches his body side to side, and presumably? throws the villager off him.
CMB: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30
Unwilling to leave Lily, though, he does not move away. He instead growls menacingly at the villagers and sets himself for other attempts.
Don't really have anything useful to do with my move action, so I'll just act threateningly.

DM Puppet Master |

Carrakas manages to break free as Jaed moves around into a better position. Lily struggles helplessly as she's pinned as Marzela swings and misses with her blade.
Sent Finnrick a PM since it's been a while since he's posted. If he hasn't posted by tomorrow evening/night, I'll just bot him again. In the meantime, @Marzela: You actually can make full attacks with light/one-handed weapons, but all your attacks have a -2 penalty. So go ahead and roll your second attack.

DM Puppet Master |

Millsy moves up to one of the villagers Jaed ran past and bites and claws at the man, however only the first claw hits.
Bite: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11

Grapple Carrakas, flanking vs CMD 25: 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 + 2 + 6 = 28
Grapple Millsy vs CMD 23: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Marzela continues to slash at her assailants even as they manage to pin her beneath them. To her south, two more villagers manage to tie Lily up while the third waits and begins dragging the now helpless woman away. Even as Carrakas breaks free, the villagers continue to pile on him and manage to succeed in grappling him once again. Meanwhile the lone wounded villager next to Millsy is too cowed by her claws raking him to get a proper hold on the cat.
Party is up. Lily is tied up. Marzela is pinned. Carrakas is grappled. And I'm aware that Jaed is no longer next to people controlling a grapple (one finished tying Lily up, so is no longer grappling. Carrakas broke free of the other, allowing them to put a different person in control of the grapple when they tried to re-grab him)

DM Puppet Master |

Marzela successfully escapes the pin.
Everybody else still has actions

Jaed Zandorias |

"Lily!" Looking around for options the rogue decides to try to help Carrakas break free by killing the villager grappling him. Again, an acrobatics check to move through threatened terrain with DC +5/+7, although I don't even know if the villagers are able to threaten if they are not armed.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 17 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 17 + 4 = 29
"Big guy, go get Lily," Jaed says as he attacks the villager grappling Carrakas.
Flaming sword, flanking: 1d20 + 13 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 13 + 2 = 31
damage: 1d6 + 6 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 6 + (5) = 17 last d6 is fire damage
So, Jaed's priority right now is to help Lily but she is too far from him. I think Carrakas is just in range to blade rush the villager dragging her so let's see if that's enough to kill the villager grappling him.

Carrakas |

Assuming that kills the bloke grappling me...
Carrakas gives a curt nod to Jaed, and then rushes forward through the crowd of villagers to bring his hammer down on the one dragging Lily.
Attack, Blade Rush, PA: 1d20 + 9 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 9 + 2 - 2 = 17
Damage, PA, bludgeoning: 4d6 + 9 + 4 ⇒ (4, 2, 6, 3) + 9 + 4 = 28

DM Puppet Master |

Yes Marzela, you escaped the grapple and still have your move action.
As Jaed nimbly dodges around more villagers and slays the man grappling Carrakas, the tiefling rushes forward, similarly slaying the man dragging Lily along. Finnrick finishes casting his summoning spell and a giant ape suddenly appears and begins swinging around with its mighty fists and fangs, felling another villager.
Bite: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Claw 1: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Claw 2: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Damage: 1d4 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Millsy continues to harass the man next to her, finally killing him and moving on to a new target.
Bite: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Finnrick moves into a better position, aiming his sling at the villager Marzela hit earlier with her bow, managing to take him down as well.
Sling: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
I'll let Marzela take her move action and then have the villagers go.

Marzela |

Escaping, Marzela steps southeast to avoid being ganged up on again, and then moves straight east, trying to get room to shoot, but then realizes that she dropped her bow as she was struggling to get away. She grips her scimitar more tightly, and says a quick prayer to Sarenrae that her friends will be okay.

DM Puppet Master |

As Marzela moves out of the reach of the two villagers, they both take the opportunity to lash out at her.
AoO 1 unarmed strike: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 2 = 11
AoO 2 unarmed strike: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 4 + 2 = 16
Nonlethal damage: 1d3 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
The few remaining villagers then head away from the group to the north withdrawing where necessary and you hear a scream from that direction. One of the villagers has pulled a knife and is holding it to Shreya's neck as his companions hold her in place. He yells out in Vudrani that Marzela translates.
"Surrender infidels or I will kill the woman!"
Didn't feel like finding an icon for Shreya, so she's the green-outlined villager
Party is up

Marzela |

Marzela doesn't like the idea of Shreya being killed, but it could also be another trick. Obviously Shreya had been complicit in the attack in some way, even if it were just by withholding information.
She walks over and picks up her bow, planning to shoot the villagers and save Shreya if they hung around, but she wasn't about to surrender.

Carrakas |

Carrakas frowns, and then briefly smiles. He utters a command word, causing his armor to fold back into it's brooch, and he turns off his shield. Unarmored, he walks around toward the villagers, hands held out wide. He calls out to Marzela "Hold position and translate for me. Tell them there is no need to be hasty about this, that we can work this out calmly. Keep your bow in hand, though."
Let's stay in initiative order here, looking to see if I can stall them for another round. Which one is holding the knife?

Jaed Zandorias |

Jaed sees Lily struggling with the ropes so he moves next to her and cuts them with his sword.
"Lily, what happened before the fight? Are these people from the village? If they are, this is most probably a trap."

DM Puppet Master |

As soon as Carrakas takes one step forward, the man yells again. "Come any closer and she dies, demon!" Does Carrakas continue his move action? The purple one has the knife.

Carrakas |

How far would I have gotten before he finished the sentence and Marzela had time to translate it? Assuming I would have been walking steadily the whole time and that I started 5ft south of Lily.

DM Puppet Master |

Probably 10ft before you noticed he also moved to press the knife more firmly against Shreya's throat, drawing a thin line of blood. And then another 10-15ft before Marzela could have translated it.

Marzela |

Marzela translates for Carrakas, and adds
You know he is not a demon. He came here in my company yesterday. Let the woman go. We won't harm you.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (5) + 21 = 26
Low roll... not that it was likely that they would listen to us after attacking us and all anyway, but dicebot could be a little more helpful. :)

Carrakas |

So that'll take me to 25ft of movement. I will go ahead and stop when she finishes translating, but not before. I've moved myself back 5 feet on the map.

DM Puppet Master |

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
The man with the knife seems to completely ignore Marzela and instead gives a wicked grin to Carrakas. "You think I am dumb. But I am not." He then slashes the blade across Shreya's throat. She gives a gurgling gasp and falls to the ground, blood pumping out in great gouts. He holds out his hands wide and invitingly even as his companions take off at a run in various north and northeasterly directions.
Party is up

Marzela |

As Marzela sees Shreya's throat cut, she casts Stabilize, hoping to save her.
Kill him, Carrakas.
Marzela's voice shakes as she speaks to Carrakas, completely baffled about what is going on.
Shreya must have known what would happen, but they tried to kill her for *helping* them?
Although what she says sounds like a command on the surface, Carrakas knows her well enough to hear the pleading in her voice, to right the wrong that she cannot right, and to offer justice to this woman.
She walks forward, staying out of reach of the man, to see if her spell has left the woman alive or not. She hopes that they can talk to Shreya and maybe figure out the insanity all around them.

Carrakas |

Carrakas shakes his head slightly, disappointed his ploy didn't work out, but not overly concerned. He did take the offered opening, though; pausing only to reactivate his force shield, he moves forward a few steps and then rushes across the remaining open distance to the man.
Attack, blade rush: 1d20 + 15 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 15 + 2 = 19
Damage: 4d6 + 9 ⇒ (1, 6, 2, 2) + 9 = 20
A heads up, I may be slow this week, traveling for work through Thursday.
Also, since I took off my armor, and don't have the standard action to reapply it, I am currently at 12 AC counting the -2 from blade rush, and I also don't have my DR.

DM Puppet Master |

Carrakas rushes forward, slamming his hammer into the man. The villager spits out blood, still smiling. There's a fanatical gleam in his eyes as he says, "You will never defeat the masters." He then falls over, dead.
Marzela rushes towards Shreya, praying that the woman is still alive. She places her hands over the grisly wound, trying to both staunch the blood and find a pulse. After what seems like forever, she finds it. The woman's pulse is faint, but there.
In the distance, the dark shapes of the last few attackers continue to flee off into the night.
End combat

"Did I say before that I hate crazy cultists? If this poor woman survives, she may be able to give us some valuable information."
Did everyone get enough sleep? If so, should we try to track them now or should we look after Shreya and see if she can give us some extra information?

Marzela |

Not sure on sleep... but it was during last watch, so it is probably close. I'm thinking I should heal her up and we should finish sleeping, and then see if she can answer some questions for us before we move on. ... Not against killing the villagers since they tried to kill us, but we're really after "the masters." (And we aren't sure they were all in on it, if they tried to kill Shreya. I don't get that part at all, really.
We should probably search the huts and make sure no one else is waiting to kill us... and check on Bala and the elephants.
Marzela motions Carrakas over and anyone else who looks wounded, and channels a couple of times, making sure everyone is healed, including Shreya.
Channel: 12d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 4, 5, 4, 5, 3, 1, 2, 1, 4, 1) = 37

DM Puppet Master |

The only person who's gotten enough sleep is Lily since she has last watch.
Marzela vastly overdoes the healing given that the only people who were injured were Shreya and some non-lethal damage on herself. The woman comes too and gurgles in a panic. It appears the knife cut her vocal cords, which were not restored in the process of the healing magic.
