I definitely see exposed to awfulness for Nebbin, my barbarian, though child of the crusade could work as well. I'll try to have a bit more of a writeup done later today.

I will say I like the focus on dwarves. It's unusual. I could see a ranger with dwarf as a favored enemy, which I assume would probably be a first.

looking over the guide to see what i can come up with

thanks

I'm going to see about working up a high intelligence human fighter with the lore warden archetype eventually going into Student of War.

I'm thinking Child of the Crusades for the trait, expect him to use a pole-arm and specialize in aiding others/tripping/disarming.

Yeah, like Varnus said, I'm going with Rifhtwarden Orphan because there is no other arcane campaign trait.

Dark Archive

Dotting with Petronicus. I originally created him for a game I didn't get in. I will modify his background and traits accordingly.

Ok, I think Cyril is finished. GM, if there's anything you'd like me to add before choosing time, please let me know.

Grand Lodge

Do we need the players guide traits to enter the mythic classes? Now they are out, is there a requirement to take a campaign trait. I ask for others.

At this point I think I'll withdraw. It's not the AP I think I am looking for.

Dotting for interest.

Also can anyone point me towards the download of the players guide on the site?

Player's Guide: http://paizo.com/products/btpy919c?Pathfinder-Adventure-Path-Wrath-of-the-R ighteous-Players-Guide

As you can see, it hasn't exactly been widely celebrated.

After reading the traits I can see why. Ick.

Think I can build something more interesting without those traits.

How's recruitment going? Someone have a summary? I'll dig through the posts and see where it stands.

Quick note, I've got some cell service for the moment...Traits from the PG are NOT required. The PG traits are not required for mythic paths.

Demon-strong, Nebbin Elsbet could have been a bully, terrorizing everyone around him. But he's not. He could have been a mighty warrior, a crusader among crusaders. But he's not. He's as sweet a man as you could ever hope to meet, one who just wants to do his daily work, his effort to help keep his home free from demons.

He's a quarryman, see. He doesn't really like violence, but he put his strength to use breaking stones with his massive maul, making sure there's always material available for repairs to the walls and buildings of Kenabres.

Sure, he's a bit simple, but some say that's not really his fault. Ever since he was attacked by a demon as a child and awoke from that coma, he's been ... well, a touch slow. He doesn't get mad, doesn't like to make hasty decisions, just seems to go along. He doesn't bother anyone and doesn't seem to be bothered by anyone. If you push him, he just ... moves.

The only time he seems to get angry is if you hurt someone else. A crusader -- one certainly not worthy of Iomedae! -- tried to take advantage of his little sister once. Nebbin was having none of that. He heard her cry for help and rushed over, that rock-splitting maul of his almost caving in the man's chest. I'm sure he'd have killed Nebbin if he'd had his sword out, but he just lay there on the ground, eyes rolled up in the back of his head. Got what he deserved, of course. I think Nebbin even felt a little bad -- didn't mean to hit him that hard but just didn't know his own strength. I heard a couple people say he was demon-touched in that instance, but those were friends of the crusader and no one had much time for them. After all, Nebbin's as sweet a man as you could ever hope to meet.

Nebbin's a barbarian, but not really an adventurer at the start of the campaign. He's just a huge kid -- wearing protective leathers for his job and wielding a massive tool that just happens to also make for a good weapon -- who wants to do the right thing so rushes in to help when Kenabres is attacked. I'll probably go with the exposed to awfulness trait even if it's not required; it actually works well with the basic concept of the character. He's a front-line melee fighter, though I could see possibly taking a couple ranks in ranger at some point. as noted I'm certainly open to having a shared history with someone else -- perhaps a sibling or friend or even someone who thinks they're looking out for the simple country kid even as he thinks he's looking out for them. I'll do the full character writeup if he's selected for the game.

Hmm. Just looking at people who seem to have posted specific characters:

* Ancrym Wildspeaker: human druid
* Neji: gnome haunted oracle
* Aero Skyfall: human archaeologist (bard)
* Varnus Wernan: human cross-blooded sorcerer; earth (elemental) and black (dragon) bloodlines
* Lirrathan: elf Ranger
* John Stout: maneuver master monk
* Saoirse Palelight: human paladin
* Jeras Devaron: human paladin (archery build)
* Bala of the Herd: human druid
* Skorn: Elven wizard (diabolist)
* Cyril Octagnus (human sorcerer)
* Helaman: Human fighter
* Black Thom: Half-orc barbarian or ranger?
* Merck: melee focused half-elf evangelist cleric of Gozreh
* Luznius: human sorcerer (undead bloodline)
* Luccinus de Concorezio: human fighter
* 137ben: Forlorn elf witch
* Damaran Al' Tugari: human magus
* Hustonj: Human rogue (trapfinder)
* bi0philia: high intelligence human fighter
* Petronicus di Baradin: human fighter

I think that's all the concepts that have been posted, though there are a few others who've dotted the thread. Not a single halfling; lots of fighters...

DM Fust, are Pathfinder companions ok (I'm looking particularly at Faiths of Purity)?

This is Merck's cleric. Crunch is mostly done, will update backstory in the profile soon.

Cyril, I don't have Faiths...is that material on the PRD? Any specific companion?

Pathfinder Companions are paperbacks published by Paizo that expand on the material in the core books. The one I was looking at was faiths of purity since I thought it went well with both the conept I was building off of with Cyril and the issues surrounding the worldwound as a whole, but if you don't have it you don't have it. It's on srd.org but not the Paizo PRD.

I would like to submit Mirel, if it is not too late. I also have her in the recruitment thread of another WOR campaign, but i figured I would try for both and back out of one if I was accepted in the other. I also have a paladin if that role is needed, though I would much rather play her.

Mirel was born in Egorian, in Cheliax. Her mother was a slave from Varisian who had been abused by her Chelaxian Tiefling master. That master became Mirel's father. While being taught about the different religions of Golarion, she found no interest in Asmodeous. Instead, she had a strange affinity toward the Savored Sting, Calistria; goddes of lust, guile, and revenge. Her father/master often beat her and bullied her, attempting to force her to follow Asmodeous, but she never developed an offensive response. Instead she bided her time, and promised her revenge.
When her father told her he was going to sell Mirel into slavery for her insolence, Mirel prayed to Calistria for aid. She vowed her service to the Savored Sting, if only the goddess would help her get away. She vowed vengeance on all people like him, and all those who have the taint of Hell or the Abyss in their blood, especially demons and devils themselves.

Calistria answered.

The night before her father was going to set sail for Okeno and the Flesh Fairs, he got extremely drunk. In his inebriated state, he forgot to lock the door to her or her mother's room. Mirel waited until he heard the man snoring, and then silently crept out of her room to her mother's. Together they fled.

They traveled on foot all the way from Egorian toward Korvosa. The journey was long, and arduous. On the way there, a young cleric took pity on them and fed and lodged the two figuitves. After a few days, he agreed to take them in his wagon the rest of the way to Korvosa. Once there, Mirel kept her promise.

She went to the temple of Calistria almost immediately. The clerics provided Mirel's mother a home and gave Mirel her own chambers within the temple to conduct her business. Mirel became a temple courtesan, and quickly became one of the most successful. She began training immediately to become an inquisitor for the Savored Sting and to elimate demons and devils all over Golarion.
To further keep her promise, Mirel has traveled to Mendev to join the Crusades and stop the evil entering the world through the Worldwound.

I'm going to submit Sotharal:
Character sheet:
http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=629397

Backstory:

Spoiler:
Many centuries ago, Sotharal's parents became tired of the traditions of the elves. They decided to abandon Kyonin and live among humans. In Absalom, they had their only daughter, Sotharal.
Although her parents were content, Sotharal slowly grew tired of her home town. Her childhood friends quickly grew old and died, and she had trouble finding new ones among the humans. Sotharal longed to explore the world outside of the great city.

On a dark night in the middle of spring, her house was attacked in the middle of the night by a band of thieves. Sotharal managed to stay hidden underneath her bed. Her parents, on the other hand, were caught, bound, and carried off by the thieves, who probably sold them into slavery.

Knowing she could not remain at home, Sotharal resolved to leave Absalom, and wander from town to town. For then, she hoped, she would never stay in one place long enough to become too attached to its residents, and thus she would avoid the pain of human friends dying too soon.

While traveling, Sotharal encountered a strange glowing light. Curious, she approached, and was greeted with an enormous blinding flash of light, followed by a burst of utter darkness. When the darkness cleared, a small lizard-like creature stood beside her she was now a 1st level witch.

Scared, she rushed to a temple as soon as she reached the next down. A few divination spells assured her that the creature following her, and the power it granted her, were not inherently Evil. They were not, however, Good.

What was the thing that gave her power? Although she doesn't know it, that was a powerful Aeon, and Sotharal is part of the Aeons' plan to preserve balance in the universe...by destroying demons of the worldwound. (at 7th level, I plan to take Improved Familiar: Paracletus).

Eventually, her travels took her to Kenabres. Upon entering, Sotharal felt a ping through her Empathetic Link with her familiar--it gave her the idea to volunteer in the crusades.

Goals:
Spoiler:
Sotharal's goals are simple:
First, she desires to understand her own power.
Second, she wants to find closure on the status of her parents.
Finally, Sotharal continues to have a strong desire to explore unknown parts of the world. It is this desire which leads her to adventure.

Expanding on Cyril's reply - The Pathfinder Companions are NOT in the PRD on Paizo's webpage. As I understand it, only books that Paizo considers core product get included in their PRD. Their business does require that we purchase this same material in order for them to continue making it, of course.

The material on srd.org is all SUPPOSED TO BE the OGL version of the rules presented in all Paizo publications and 3rd part stuff, and that's why they have big icons on each specific item page indicting the origin (Paizo or third party, and what Paizo product line it came from). The Venture Captain that I know was pretty clear that the srd site is not always accurate. I don't know if that is supposed to indicate that they don't always post the OGL version of a rule (embedding copyright setting references breaks the OGL), that they don't update their postings for formal Paizo errata, or simply that it is easier to note not everything there is official than it is to get a portion of the population to check whether what they want to use is an actual Paizo item and not actually third party. I'm certain there are other possible interpretations, but those are the ones that seem the most likely in my mind.

Okay, here's a quick draft of a background for my human thief (Rogue) character.

Background:
When you grow up in a city under siege, life tends to be more difficult. Among other things, a far greater number of the children who survive do so as orphans. Well-meaning people try to provide and care for orphans in this sort of environment, or to move them away from it, but there are always more orphans who need help than they can actually handle. Thus, even when these groups are hard at work, some children find other ways to get what they need and to improve their own lot in life. Terry was one of this sort of orphaned child.

Terry stumbled his way into a small, organized gang that had found a way to make some money that didn't actually HURT anyone, though it did cut into their pockets quite a bit. They were stealing an occasional imported weapon shipment before it made it into town. Everyone already knew that some of the shipments were being hit by raiders following instructions from inside the Worldwound, so scattered thefts wouldn't do too much more harm than the raiders were already doing. Since the stolen weapons were sold back into Kenabres, such thefts actually do far less damage to the war effort than enemy raiders stealing the shipment. When you are trying to steal something that somebody else is also trying to steal, though, you can run into some undesired consequences.

A young Terry, at 8 years of age, was sitting in the back of a wagon, watching for anything approaching while the group was making off with 3 good wagons of weaponry. No one saw the Worldwound's raiders before they struck, but Terry heard the gurgle as they took out the driver of his wagon, and he quickly hid himself down among the weaponry wrappings, trying not to be seen so that he could sneak away later. The raiders did exactly what they were supposed to do, and started taking the wagons down into the Worldwound itself, to be distributed by their masters. Eventually (it seemed like days had passed to Terry, though it had only been a few hours), they stopped the wagons to rest and water the horses. Once Terry was sure that no one was close, he crept out of his hiding place and scurried away from the watering hole, keeping the wagons between himself and the raiders, until he found another hole to hide in so that he could wait for them to leave. After they left, he went back to the watering hole to deal with his own thirst and empty belly. Enough water will quiet a belly for a while, after all. Before he had finished, he heard a cry on the wind "Found him! He's at the watering hole!"

Terry responded like a rabbit. He broke and ran away form the noise as quickly as he could, while trying to stay hidden from whoever was causing the noise. Just like a rabbit dealing with hunters, though, he found that he was flushed into an ambush where three adults were waiting to grab him. As the first one got a good grip on his leg, and Terry turned to stare what he thought would be his death in the eye, the man's neck sprouted two feathered shafts of wood and his grip relaxed. Even as Terry started running again, the other three men were felled just as quickly, by a nearby archer. Her soft voice called out, "Come on out, child. I won't hurt you. We need to get you out of here, though. We need to get you back to Kenabres. I have some food, if you want." She helped Terry avoid other patrols, few of which were actually men, and led him to an area Kenabrean soldiers frequented. "Go on, follow that worn trail up the hill and to the right. You should run into a some soldiers in a matter of minutes. They'll get you home quick enough." She had to cajole Terry to leave, because she had already become his symbol of safety and security, but she was finally able to get him to do as she asked.

Once he returned to Kenabres, it didn't take long for him to return to the streets and the thieving ways he had already been learning. Now, though, he took stranger risks. He tended to pick activities which could end up with him back inside the Worldwound, back where he might see her again, see her playing with the symbol of Desna, back to where somebody had shown care and concern for him, not for what he might do for them. She quickly became his idealized concept of a mother. As he got older, she also became his idealized concept of what a woman should be. In both cases, the idealized version was based far more out of his own imagination and desires than what she showed him during his rescue.

Eventually, Terry started another group up specifically to steal weapon shipments. He told himself it was because this was the easiest way he knew to generate profit, but he failed to keep their attacks either rare or random enough, and he attracted unwanted attention. To be fair, he didn't really understand that unwanted attention was really what he was trying to find. He wanted to get drug back into the Worldwound, though he would deny it if asked. He attracted attention from the Kenabrean army, though, NOT from the raiders. He was captured, tried, and found guilty of treasonous behavior directly harming the war effort. When they asked if he had anythign he wanted ot say for himself before sentencing, he shrugged and said simply "If you really think that I was hurting the war effort, then use me to aid it. Assign me to somebody that you are sending in, make my survival dependent on theirs. I'll probably be just as dead, but you should get something out of it besides a public execution."

And that is how Terry got drafted to help out with the Fifth Crusade.

I spent the weekend visiting my parents, uncles and grandmother (she's 96), so I haven't been paying attention to this site. I need to go run some errands while everything is open. I'll work on a mechanical build for the character this evening after I'm done with real life. Now that I've got some flavor, some basis for making decisions about the character, I can build one that makes sense (to me, at least) for the campaign.

DM Fust, would you possibly consider allowing an ARG archetype if it's a core race being submitted? I'd very much like to turn in a Dwarven Stonelord. Thank you!

The VC who told you that may have been referring to PFS use. One thing the pfsrd does which the prd does not is include sidebars liking to relevant FAQs or forum posts by the developers. This can make it easier, since if you just look at the prd it isn't always clear if there is a relevant FAQ.

HOWEVER, the VC you talked to might have been referring to the fact that PFS does not consider forum posts by the developers to be "official." So if you see a clarification in a sidebar on the pfsrd, check to see where the link goes. If it goes to Paizo's official FAQ, then it is RAW. If it goes to a forum post by James Jacobs or SKR, then it is a helpful clarification that DMs can consider, but doesn't count for PFS.
Those are all in the sidebars, though.

Phillip0614 - Sorry..if I allowed a class then I'd have to allow all the material to be fair.

I would have Neji take the touch by the divine trait as it fits her backstory perfectly already. Her deity would be Desna with the travel domain to gain longstrider. Hopefully this helps as not many others I think have he touched by divine trait interest

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

I got mine as well. Had to resist the urge to look at it. So far I've made my Will save... (I did glance at the big CR 27 demon lord, though.)

*Must resist urge to run away* Okay now that that is under control who wants to never face the big CR 27 ;) (I vote yes).

I haven't gotten it, but...CR 27 demon lords?!? I'm excited:)

"I mustn't run away. I mustn't run away."

Just so everyone knows...the 1st book recommends that the PC's go from level 1-6. This is going to be one heck of a ride.

DM Pendin Fust wrote:

Great, I love higher level play:)

Also: While I already posted my backstory and character sheet, I did not include any mention of the campaign traits from the player's guide. This is because my character concept is flexible enough to allow any of three different campaign traits, and I thought it would be best to pick the campaign trait that fits best with the rest of the party. If selected, I will pick one of these based on who else is chosen, Alternatively, if one of these options fills a hole in other submitted characters, you (the DM) can choose one. You could sort of view this as three separate submissions which differ only in one trait selection and a small backstory adjustment.
After picking a campaign trait, Sotharal's backstory will be adjusted in the following way:

Riftwarden Orphan:

The backstory given in my profile already has Sotharal's parents killed, so the only change that needs to be made is for Sotharal to have a magical rune on her body. Alternatively, the rune formed at the same time she got her power.

Exposed to Awfulness:
If Sotharal is given the Stolen Fury trait, then her parents were killed not by ordinary murderers, but by a rampaging demon. The demon also thought it killed her, but she survived after lying in a coma for awhile.

Stolen Fury:
If Sotharal is given the Exposed to Awfulness trait, then her parents were killed not by ordinary murderers, but by a rampaging demon. The demon kidnapped Sotharal and used her in part of an evil ritual. Whatever foul effect the ritual had on her, it may have been part of the reason that the Aeons decided to invest witch power in her.

When is a decision being made?

story:

Carvin Dantios is something rare, a ninja who is not from the lands of Tian Xia or who is even descended from them. Carvin Dantios was originally a street child in the Cheliaxian city of Westcrown. However it did not take long for the Order of the Sarophenes to take note of him and to recruit him. At age ten they picked him off of the streets and began his training as an agent and when the Leader took an interest in him personally his training was expanded to include the martial arts. While originally only meant to serve as a supplement to his training it quickly became apparent to the Leader that more...specialist training was required. To this end he imported Ninja instructors from Tian Xia to train hm. The instructors were surprised that Carvin picked up the training so quickly and lethally, he broke his training master's arm at the age of forteen. His training master was needless to say both pleased and furious.

While Carvin was good with his fists and feet it soon became apparent that he was born to use the Katana and Wakizashi. He never favored dual wielding them though, he prefered to use either stealth or acrobatics to get behind his foe and execute a lethal coup de grace. He favors both eastern weapons and armor heavily, finding that they both complement his style of combat and do not restrict his movement. Now the Leader of the Sarophenes has tasked him with an imporant task, to find and retrieve the Abyssal Codex. The Abyssal Codex from what Carvin understands of it is a book wrtten by a powerful and legendary leader of the demon cults that inhabit the worldwound. While this cult leader is no longer alive his work is still imporant and is held in the hands of a powerful demon cult. The demon cult that holds the codex is unknown however the Leader does know that it exists in the worldwound and has told Carvin to use whatever means are nessecary regardless of the cost to retrieve it. Carvin was trained to be perfect and he will succeed no matter the cost.

personality:

Carvin was trained to be a ruthless assassin, he was made into a precise and deadly weapon by the Order. He values precision, speed, cunning and perfection, he disdains those who laze around and do not try to perfect their talents. Carvin is direct and ruthless in his dealing, while he prefers to simply kill his targets he can play the role of an enforcer with great skill. He is also a Sarophene to the core, he disdains the majority of the gods and views paladins as idiots. What warrior in his right mind abstains from using the weapons required?

the order of the Sarophenes:
The Order of the Sarophenes is the distinctly Cheliaxian answer to the the problem of the worldwound. As the Leader himself stated "the Order of the Sarophenes is more then an organization or the people behind it, the order is an idea. That idea is control something the paladin fools and idiotic moralists of Mendev can never comprehend." For despite the efforts of the crusaders of Mendev tey have failed to stop the worldwound or to even prevent it from expanding. They have been given four crusades and they all have resulted in the great scheme of things is failure. The demons despite every effort mortals make cannot be defeated, they can be controlled however. The Order of the Sarophenes will control the demonic hordes of the worldwound and the Abyss and do what the crusaders failed to do: eliminate the demonic threat to golorian.

appearance:
Carvin Dantious prefers loose clothing that at the same time is large and billowing. This is the reason he wears a monk's robes and travels in the guise of the monk, he can easilly hide his Wakizasha and even his Katana inside the robes. His armor also easily blends in with the outfit and does nothing to restrict his mobility. Varvin is a dark haired and pale skinned man, however his skin has tanned somewhat and his hair is maintained in short, sharp style. Carvin's eyes are a green color and they show to those who look closely the the power and strength that is inherent in Carvin. Carvin is a muscled and lithe man, while more then capable in a straight fight he does his best to ensure that it is never a fair fight. Carvin Dantious is also capable of stunning acrobatics and swordplay, more then one enemy has made the mistake of assuming him to be a common monk and paid the ultimate price for that mistake.

gm do you like and are you concerned with the flavor?

I don't remember seeing anything suggesting he was shutting down submissions any earlier than this.

Dark Archive

I have an alias created but have been waiting for potential further character creation instructions based on the player's guide and AP before finalizing and submitting it. If no more guidance is to be forthcoming I will post my submission later today.

Ah, thank you.

Thanks hustonj...I did make mention that I might extend the recruitment period but I feel the PG will have been out long enough to NOT extend. So yes, 8/16 at 12pm PST (or GMT-8).

Skorn, no other instructions I foresee :) Go crazy with the backstory.

A note for anyone concerned about the traits...Steve Geddes had a great post in a thread where some people were feeling a little...put off...by the traits. It was something to the effect of "I think that traits are supposed to be considered in the initial character creation process to help flesh out the backstory. I can see why it would feel limiting or difficult to adapt existing characters." I agree wholeheartedly with this.

One last thing I WOULD like from everyone...a quick post (preferably with an alias) giving your timezone. Thanks!

"Time zone? Well, I like days, mostly. Early morning, because late morning and afternoon is getting too hot when you're crushing rocks. Night's OK, but it can be a little scary in the dark."

Eastern time zone; but I work second shift, so tend to post late morning/early afternoon and then depending on how busy work is sometimes at night.

I'm also in EST, but I work shift work and change shifts every four weeks. I can post both from home and work though, so I'm mostly unaffected by my schedule.

PST (GMT-8)

I tend to be online during the day but will go out a few evenings a week.
It'll be nice to see the recruitment start wrapping up, it feels like forever since this started.

UTC (-6)

Central Time Zone - I can usually post any time not sleeping. :)

Alias of Skorn - How is this for a creepy elven wizard alias :)

Eastern time zone.

Axton walks into the room and looks around. He nods in approval towards the others in the room that have been collecting to toss themselves into the grinder to protect his hometown of Kenabres. "These will do," he says in a pleased tone and takes a seat, waiting to be reviewed.

Howdy! Been working on Axton here since you responded to my message about gunslingers in your campaign, Fust. I'm really excited for this path. Oh, and before I forget, I'm EST time and I can post multiple times a day every day of the week. Good luck to everyone else who put an application in!

Pacific standard time for now. Will be moving to Japan at the end of September, however.

Central US - I can't use the forums during work, so I am a weeknight/weekend only poster.

I don't make an alias until I am in a game. They still build up too quickly as games fold.

I submitted Terry, the human thief.
