Like your prior travels to Gralton and Ustalav, the journey to Allenstead passes without incident.

As you step into the town, you note that Allenstead consists of a few dozen buildings built along either side of a solitary dirt road..

At the center of the village, construction is nearly complete on a large stone statue of a masked priest that stands nearly twenty feet tall.

The area is bustling with activity as townsfolk seem to be taking a few moments from their daily routines and congregating here.

You all observe as a man, apparently a baker by trade as evidenced by the flour dotting his apron, approaches and takes a position up next to a woman who was standing alone in the market.

He gives her a curt nod, and speaks in a droning, monotone.

"Greetings, Imelda."

The woman barely blinks or nods in response, but she responds to the baker, her voice sounding strangely monotonous as well.

"Greetings, Baker Florent."

After this exchange, both turn their gazes to the stage and statue, apparently having little else to discuss.

The map link in the header has been updated.

"Well, isn't this just a picture perfect place..." Adowyn mutters to the group. "Leryn and I are going to circle right and see if we can't pick anything up."

Adowyn and Leryn move 30' northwest, behind another couple of townspeople and try to listen in to any conversations around them. If there is none, she will tap an individual on the shoulder to get their attention and ask them "Looks like a big shinding going on here. What's the occasion?"

The map is locked for editing.. cant move the tokens.

Crowe frowns slightly as he observes the strange emotionlessness of the villagers.

"Well that's certainly odd. And more than a bit sinister. Who wants to lay odds we're dealing with a mad priest that's ensorcelled the townsfolk here?"

As the Pathfinders stand in town square among other assembling locals, they continue to pick out other bits of scattered conversation.

Everyone's voice seems to drone, with little emotion betrayed.

"It wasn't until Folloch that I found joy and meaning in my life through obedience."

"Yes, the joys of servitude are splendid."

"The sacred task will be completed soon."

"The monument is worthy of Razmir's greatness."

Just as you consider prodding the locals for further information, a bell rings and folks turn their attention to the stage.

A man in a mask, flanked by two apparent guards steps up to the stage's center. He scans the crowd, and quickly identifies the assembled Pathfinders before addressing the full town.

“Ah! My dearest children, it appears some stray lambs have wandered into our flock! Surely Razmir can uncloud the minds of these wayward souls.”

With a flourish, a golden rod emerges from one of his sleeves and he gestures toward you all while uttering an arcane word.

"Kre-ZAM!"

The rod seems to respond meekly to his request.

FZZZZ-rooooooo.

The masked man turns his head to regard the item in his hand before he shakes it a few times and points it again.

Rooo-fizzzz-mmmrmmmm.

This seems to further agonize the masked man on stage.

"Argghh!! Blasted rod! People of Allenstead! Do not allow these non-believers to harry your faithful voice of Razmir! Detain them!"

The man quickly leaps from the stage and seems to flee southward, while the townsfolk shuffle and turn their attentions to you.

Another post coming.

Despite all the literay embellishments above, it all happens rather fast, and I apologize if folks feel railroaded by the above scene, but essentially this part of the quest is written as a form of skill challenge and not an actual combat.

We're going to go "around the table" and each PC has a chance to act and make a check. Your goal is to make your way through the people of Allenstead who seem entranced but are seeking to detain you while the Razmirin escapes.

You can't use the same check more than once and we'll go through multiple rounds of this challenge. You can use a combat maneuver or 1st-level spell (not a cantrip) instead of a skill check as well. Using a 1st-level spell grants an automatic success if used in a creative way. We'll do the first go-round before we do the second.

As examples, you can make a Climb check to get to higher ground, or you could make a Disguise check to look like a local. You are all encouraged to be creative. The DC of this check is 15. You cannot take 10 on this check. If you make the check, feel free to write how you are successful in thwarting or evading the townsfolk. If you fail, write about how you are harried and delayed.

Reminder, we are not in initiative. This is not combat. The order is not important, I've just listed your names alphabetically to ensure I get an action from everyone before continuing.

When you said you can't use the same check more then once is that per player or for the party? Because I'd like to use intimidate as well..but I'm not sure if I can seeing how Crowe just used it

Oloch seeing the mob rush towards his companions concentrates a bit a places a hand on Jirelle and instills a divine cloak on her

Not a 1st lvl spell..but I think it's about equal to one ;Using Glorious Presence: Oloch can touch an ally as a standard action. For one minute, that ally is protected by a special sanctuary effect that doesn’t break for a particular enemy unless the ally attacks that enemy. ..Will save DC 12......or Jirelle is free to move after the fleeing guy. If this is not allowed by the rules I'll do something else

and then moves after the fleeing priest

Are we supposed to move on the map? If so, I'll move me 4 squares towards the priest (unless we don't know where he is?)

This quest is a new day, so you all have all your resources/abilities-per-day/etc.

The check is once per player.

You don't need to use the map at all. This is a pseudo-chase which will be all in theater of mind. What happens next is purely a function of the checks.

@Oloch: Since you're the one using the ability, that will count for a successful check for you vs Jirelle. If that makes sense. :)

The five Pathfinders quickly evade the crowd as Adowyn leaps into the arms of several villagers who at first seem confused as to why they are holding the hunter, but nonetheless turn and flee in the appropriate direction as Crowe bellows at them and smashes Golarion with his hammer.

Jirelle finds the crowd strangely absent at this point, whether it be her tumbling acrobatics or Oloch's spell, she's unsure, but she clears a path for herself and the warpriest to follow.

As the party races through the entranced citizens of Allenstead, they finally break free and duck through the southern gates of the town, a project apparently started but never finished by one of the town's previous mayors.

Outside, they notice a stables, its doors thrown wide and a carriage parked just outside with chests, sacks, barrels and crates thrown erratically within. You notice the two guards earlier, apparently assisting the Razmirin priest with his departure plans to make a hasty retreat.

Folloch, the priest, spots you as you clear the gate and once again produces his golden rod and gestures in your direction.

"Kre-ZAM!"

Once again, he looks down at his hand, shaking the rod in frustration before groaning and tossing it into the carriage as well.

"Fools! Stop them! Your lord Razmir commands it!"

The two guards make a slow glance at each other, rubbing their heads and eyes as if in some sort of dream before the cleric shouts at them again.

"NOW! you idiots!"

The two guards, both of their voices droning and monotonous, seem to agree as they draw weapons and move to prevent any harm to the Razmiran.

"Yes, I will find joy in servitude."

"Compliance gives my life purpose."

You all could have drawn weapons while rushing to this area, so you can assume whatever you want in your hand is out.

Actually looks like we still need Round 2 actions from Crowe and Leryn! We only appear to have resolved their AoOs.

Round 1 Con't
12 Jirelle : Rushes up to the wagon
8 Oloch : Stands, moves out of grease
4 Shardra : Sends Kolo at the Razmiran, cimbs out of grease

Round 2:
20 Crowe :
16 Adowyn : Draws bow, shoots priest for 3
16 Leryn :

As several members of the group crawl or leap out of the grease, Leryn and Crowe both bring an end to the Razmiran's guards.

Still Up: Crowe, Leryn

Sorry.. Totally missed that!
After bringing down the guard, Leryn turns to the cleric, growling and slowly advancing on him, adding in his dire threat to Adowyns.

Crowe looks up from the guard he was attempting to knock out, and instead accidentally knocked a hole clean through, and his vision goes red around the edge as he regards the evil bastard that brainwashed these people and sent them to their death while he attempted to flee.

"Make peace with whichever Gods you fear priest."

CRUNCH.

Folloth looked ahead at the angry, dark-skinned man standing before him but couldn't understand what was wrong.

The image of him was distored, fragmented, and tinged red.

He wondered what the red spray was that suddenly splashed the bald, tattooed man. Was it one of his guards?

No matter, he lifted his hand to obliterate this attacker with the power of Razmir.

"Grrgle...."

Instead, he saw the ground coming up at him fast and didn't even feel as his face met the rocks littered about there.

Such things happen when your skull and brain have been smashed in by an earthbreaker.

As the life ebbed from Folloth, his hold on Allenstead shattered as quickly as his skull.

Out of combat! And congratulations, that's another completed quest as you pick up the golden rod from the carriage! You'll realize the trance-like state will wear out within the hour or so as Folloth ran out of charges on his mesmeric baton (which will still fetch a good price as it is gilded in gold).

Well.. That was interesting! Good hit, Crowe!

Little too good on the first one. Was actually trying not to kill anyone this go round. That was an ill timed crit. Then I figured Crowe would just be super pissed, and continue the murder spree.

lmao.. I can totally see that.. I think that it is plausible and well thought. Props.

BEGIN QUEST #4, CRASH.

A week after the events in Allenstead, Oloch pulls out another page from Ulisha's journal that seems to indicate the possibility of finding something interesting at a "crash site" near the Numerian borderlands.

Latest page from Ulisha's journal

Accompanying her notebook entry, Ulisha filled the next several pages eith crude maps, complex equations, and further notes. She apparently returned to the Pathfinder’s cave mentioned in her previous entry. By observing the angle of the ridgeline and her current position, she was able to calculate the crash site’s probable location.

The last page on the matter includes a detailed map into Numeria with various landmarks and a destination.

An addendum written in recent ink warns, “Tread lightly. Numeria remains a mystery to the rest of the world. Those who stay too long draw unwanted attention.”

Knowledge History or Local DC10+:
Numeria is a brutal land where only the strongest survive. It was shaped by an astronomical event known as the Rain of Stars, when a large meteor exploded in the sky and rained down upon the land.

Knowledge History or Local DC15+:
The Kellids that call Numeria home often scavenge the fallout from the Rain of Stars for a rare metal known as Numerian Steel. Scholars call the substance adamantine, and it is famed for its durability and ability to cut through the hardest materials as though they were cloth. When alloyed with iron, it is less durable and much less valuable.

Knowledge History or Local DC20+:
Some say that the object that fell during the Rain of Stars was not a meteor at all, but in fact a massive ship carrying advanced technology and creatures from other worlds. The local population views this technology with suspicion and prefers to reclaim then often destroy any such finds they come across.

"Numeria huh? Rough place. Traveled there a bit after I left Varisia. The ruler is a real bastard, but the people aren't so bad. Barbarians mostly outside the citys. They fight well enough, but all they ever want to talk about is the Star Fall, or that weird thing they found from the Star Fall, or that time a Star Fallen whatsit nearly killed them. Gets boring quick.

Anyways, speaking of potentially deadly star fallen whatsits, let's go track this one down shall we? "

Oloch nods

"Let's go"

"Well, so far we have robbed tombs, settled scores with ghosts, and dealt with brainwashed townsfolk. May as well add in a bit of celestial trouble.. Lets go!"

The trees become sparse as the you climb into the Numerian foothills. A series of switchbacks rises to a low summit.

The view is phenomenal at the crest of this hill, where Ulisha’s map indicates a crash site. Vast plains extend to the north, where clouds gather on the horizon. To the south, the Sellen River cuts a definitive border between the River Kingdoms and Numeria.

DC 15 Knowledge (nature) or Perception:
You notice that the soil along the slope of the hill here is looser than it should be, as if a recent rockslide had covered it.

The soil is marked with a brown box on the map.

Map link updated. Be sure to move your icons if you go down to investigate. Or say otherwise if you don't. Despite the rubble, it appears safe to head down, now.
