"We could put our supply wagon by the stables, when they go to loot it me and the knight could then close the door. And we should try and capture a few get them to talk...so we can find this Stag Lord

Ser Bregan Stone |

Bregan nods in surprised admiration at everyone's suggestions.
This group might just have a head for these things.
"I wasn't sure if that was your 'spell' Ravens, but that's a good one for any fight."
The bird-master confirms his skill with sorcery. Perhaps he is more useful than someone to feed my horse?
Bregan gives Ravens a long look before he composes himself.
"I like the idea of luring off a pair somewhere. Splitting them up is always good."
Bregan hesitates.
"But I'm best atop my horse in this. Perhaps in the stables even, I could burst out like one of the Four Riders."
Bregan smiles.
What an imposing knight I've suddenly become...
+1 for Holbrecht's post, I love the lever that dowses us to readiness!

Areanna Delante |

Areanna looks at the group eagerly. "Ooh! Where should I be? My song and bow should helps us a lot....but from where? Somewhere everyone can hear the song and I can see with my bow of course. Do you think the bandits will be moved by my singing?" Though she is trying to maintain a dignent tone, a bit of excitement escapes making her just a bit bouncing and squeaky. A rather goofy looking sight for sure.

Areanna Delante |

"Do we have an extra crossbow? I'll join Areanna from above."
She turns to her bird. "Tzerny, fly out and when you see them approach, come back and let us know."
"Oh excellent. We should have good fun together. Girls are not meant to be in the fray of battle but that does not mean we cannot participate. We will both watch and support from afar. It will be a glorious responsibility. Don't you think Valeska?"

Holbrecht Bastionne |

Perception to see if he overhears the conversation, 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9, otherwise Holbrecht works on the gate 1d20 ⇒ 13 +6 if it's Craft or Engineering, or +4 for Profession Engineer.

DM Olondir |

I've been moving my gf into her new place today and now I'm totally exhausted. I love you guys and it looks like I have 15 minutes before my promise is officially broken so here is a link to a top-down picture of Olegs: Link
I apologize for it not having columns/row identifiers.
Oleg chirps up "I'll let you guys get to plannin'. As much as I'd love to do them in myself, my wife and I ain't much of fighters."
Holbrecht notices a few words here and there of other's conversations but it is not sufficient to construe even an idea of what they are talking about. Either skill would work. Holbrecht notices the gate's bolts are a rusty and the old hinges could use a good greasing. This would take a few hours time if Holbrecht wasn't a master of machinery. You successfully clear out any rusty gunk in the hinges and repair the rusty bolts in a little under an hour! Svetlana and Oleg are impressed by your handydwarf skills. Oleg thanks you, "I've never seen such fine work on tools. I thought your kind, no offense, mostly dealt with crafting of stone."
Happy labor day to everyone! Cheers!

Happy labor day to everyone! Cheers!
Not sure if cleverly hidden sarcasm/commentary. Its a holiday for everyone to have a day off. A day for relaxing. Somewhere along the line it became a sales day so retail/resturaunt staff (as well as others) end up working. :/

Areanna Delante |

I'm buried deep in retail. Only "holiday" I know of is Christmas. Everything else is just a sales ad. I really hate retail. Sorry, to answer your question, it was sarcasm.....well sort of. Heard of labor day but never got to celebrate it nor do I know really anything about it.

The Kobold Threat
Picture
A Clan of Kobolds who call themselves the "sootscales" clan dwell somewhere here in the Kamelands. Normally they cause no problem, but something has riled them up. The swordlords are willing to pay 1200 gp for anyone who finds their cave and makes sure they are no longer a threat. As if banditry weren't enough...
Wanted: Tatzlwyrm
Poster
A mythical creature of the Stolen Lands, many have claimed to see them slurking about, but they are a very rare breed. A head of one of these beasts would make a nice conversation peice for hunters or traders passing through. I, Oleg, am willing to pay 600 gp for a relatively undamaged head.
Wanted: Tuskgutter
Poster
Everyone has told tales of this great boar known as Tuskgutter with sories growing wilder and wilder. A retired hunter named Vekkel Benzen, who lost his leg to this beast is offering up his composite longbow (+2) and 9 +1 animal bane arrows to whoever can kill this beast and bring back it's head which the ex-hunter who comes to Oleg's from time to time has promised to share head cheese he plans to make from the trophy.
Tonight, after classes, we'll fast forward to the next day and the arrival of the bandits. I don't have access to the map I was working on here at work.

Ser Bregan Stone |

"Alright, so we have our plan?"
Bregan asks, hoping to get confirmation from the others.
"Areanna and Valeska from above and the safety of the roof." He holds up one finger to indicate he believes that's checked off.
"Me waiting in the stable on horseback." He holds up a second finger.
"Holbrecht and Ravens at the doors, ensuring the bandits cannot withdraw back through the main gate." A third finger.
"And Vishoon waiting perhaps inside for Oleg to lead a lone bandit perhaps for a look at some 'special treasure'?" Bregan asks this last one as a question, looking to both Vishoon and Oleg.

Holbrecht Bastionne |

Holbrecht seems a little confused, "On the roof you most likely be more exposed due to the angle of the forward incli... BUT, if you were on the backside, the side facing away from the front gate, you would actually be concealed." He suggests proudly, "When you're on the roof, it would be better if you were on the far side of it." he states the obvious to the ladies, as if no one else had come up with it.

Vishoon |

"I don't think Oleg wants to be involved. I can sit in the drivers seat of the wagon with supplies. They will come to take them, while I argue, close gates then we kill or better capture them. I'm sure they will hear the gates closing, unless Holbrecht can figure a way to make them quiet when they close. When those go to deal with Holbrecht and ravens should be a good time for everyone to attack I'd think."

Ser Bregan Stone |

"It doesn't split them up, but we could probably only manage that if they saw someone they knew."
Bregan rubs the imaginary stubble on his chin.
"Perhaps we should just both wait in the stables and simply spring the attack on them as they proceed about business as usual? It would be suspicious if Oleg wasn't about, so he'll at least need to greet them like normal before excusing himself..."

DM Olondir |

Oleg overhears Ser Bregan.
"You're right. I need to be out in the open. It best be that the payment be out in the open or they'll think something is wrong. We'll need a signal. The Stag Lord loves a good drink so if I offer to go inside to get the good stuff for him...that's when you'd strike! What do ye think?"
Alright. This is the impression I got for where everyone wants to be. Holbrecht and Ravens will be sneaking around to that position when the bandits come. Valeska and Areanna will be hiding in wait above, Ser Bregan will be on Luck in the stables ready to roll out, and Vishoon is hiding in the Oleg's house (I'm assuming he'd probably like to hide a little closer, though.) Oleg will be in K12 waiting for the bandits with tribute to sell the apperance of nothing being off. Map

Ravens the Birdmaster |

Alright. This is the impression I got for where everyone wants to be.
I've actually asked a few times about the ability to see what Oleg and Svetlana have to sell (as if to see if we could better prepare for the bandits) and to find a location from which I could see them coming and being able hide, I guess this is fine.

Areanna Delante |

Oleg overhears Ser Bregan.

Sounds good to me. Areanna will be ready when you are.
Areanna smile with approval. "Excellent! We are going mop the floor with these guys right Valeska? Areanna looks to Valeska with a big chumy looking grin
Vishoon |

"I'll stay in house waiting" He goes off to take some practice with his new falchion, making sure it has same feel as his old one. I hope this falchion is as deadly as that lucky sword
Im good with this plan, if he is bringing a guy to me in the house that will work

Holbrecht Bastionne |

Also, when the women were to be on the rooftop, I thought the backside of the roof of either the stables or the house (H5-H7 through Q5-Q7, or E16-E23 through G16-G23), instead of the walkway around the fort. From the roof they can stand, fire/cast, drop prone to use the angle of the roof as total cover

DM Olondir |

Sorry Ravens! Didn't mean to be rude. Assume Oleg and Svetlana have limited qualities of gear that adventurers would want. If it's logical they'd have it in stock. Oleg will be sort of your home base (if you want it to be) as you explore the Stolen Lands. You will be spending days/weeks/months out in the wilderness but you can always fall back to Olegs if you need supplies, miss the taste of borscht or a real warm bed.
This question is for everyone: Would you like me to generate an exact list of gear Oleg has or would you rather assume a total gold amount/week worth of stock and you simply buy what you want?
Here is a map of Holbrecht's suggestions: Link
Note Valeska and Areanna are on the roof of the stables and not inside the building. Is this preferred? Holbrecht will you be there in the open when the bandits come? Just a reminder: they are expecting only Oleg and Svetlana to be present at the post.

Ser Bregan Stone |

Ravens and Holbrecht can probably be behind their buildings initially (around the closest corner) to be out of sight.
Presumably the bandits arrive quite casually and take a good amount of time to loot Oleg's (at least 10 minutes, if not an hour?).
Ravens and Holbrecht could just casually stroll out and close the gates while the bandits are busy. They could roll sneaks for this (even if they are walking out into the open) to be quiet about it. It looks like a single move action to get to the gate. I don't know what the time required to close the gates is? (a move action? a standard? multiple rounds worth of pushing?)

Ravens the Birdmaster |

For Oleg's, I would suggest that the gold per week cap is best, but maybe allow us to place orders for shipment from Brevoy if it's anything expensive, masterwork, or otherwise unusual?
Ravens will ask Oleg if he may borrow (and test out) a scythe (if they have one) for the duration of the battle.
"I don't quite have the money yet to purchase my own, but eventually..."
Ravens would prefer to be in V26, even lying on the ground/making a blind so that he cannot be seen, but can see out the front gates and see the yard.
At the first sign of the bandits, Ravens will cast Magic Stone from his scroll, using 3 small rocks found from among Olegs.

Holbrecht Bastionne |

DM Olondir |

Good call Ravens. I wanted to have you request unsual/masterwork things from Brevoy for fun but I don't want to slow down the game too much. Let Oleg know what you want and either yourself or Oleg can send a raven out with your request. This way we don't slow down the game with requesting a bag of feed or furs every time you return here for goods, but your masterwork sling with "SCREW YOU SYRA" sewn in it might be a few days. ;)
As you can see from that picture there is no space under the catwalk. The bandits don't ransack the place. This is merely extortion. I was assuming anyone on the catwalks will be lying prone in the meantime and only make themselves known when the attack starts. You two guys will be given time to sneak around to the front of the gates after the bandits are well in the killzone so you can block their escape. It will just take an appropriate stealth check.
Oleg grants Ravens permission to use a scythe for this encounter. "But if you break it, you bought it!"

Ravens the Birdmaster |

Ravens, sensing the need for him to be near a gate to help close them, relents to his suggested position.
He appreciates that Oleg allows him to borrow a scythe and almost wishes there was a wheat field nearby so he could practice a bit with it.
Ravens is ready for the morning.

DM Olondir |

Showdown At Oleg's
Erastus 27, 4710
22nd + 3 days + 1 day travel, right?
You all wake up early with the Oleg signaling the bandit's approach to the camp. Moments before Oleg's signal the sounds of a raven are heard. With the post being advantageously placed on a hill, you all have plenty of time to get into position. If anyone would like to cast any buffs prior to battle please mention it. It is slightly chilly with overcast but with practically normal visibility.
The seven men on horseback trot into the camp unaware of any ill fate. The more experienced looking bandit leading the pack is the only one who speaks. There are 4 horses total. The leader is riding his own horse but 2 men are sharing the other three.
"Always a pleasure, Oleg." Says the leader.
"Shut up Happs. As you can see, I have your stuff." Responds Oleg.
"Shut up? Now that tone ain't one I like to hear after a long ride through the night. Businessmen like yourself should have some courtesy. So tell me: how's the wife? Good?"
"Yes."
"Very well." The man dismounts and sizes up the goods brought out to him. Mostly furs and a few jugs of spirits but he looks satisfied. "Not bad, Oleg. Would you mind if I gotta drink? Me waterskin is dry and it has been a long ride."
"Sure. Let me get you some of the good stuff."
The three men on the backs of horses get off.
Ravens and Holbrecht breathe a sigh of relief as the men go unnoticed. They see each other come up to the gates and simultaneously shut them and they lock with ease. The 6 men turn around and the leader, about to enter the house, shouts "What is the meaning of this? Who are they?" The door swings open and standing in the house is this half-orc with a cloak pulled over his head with a wicked grin on his face and large curved blade in hand waiting for him. Oleg quickly ducks inside and runs.
"I'LL HAVE YOUR HEAD OLEG YOU TRAITOR." He is staring right at Vishoon.
Surprise round for everyone!

Ravens the Birdmaster |

Surprise round is one action, yeah? Ravens mentioned above that he would have cast Magic Stone prior to the men arriving. It lasts 30 minutes. Sling would be ready.
"C'mon Luck! C'mon Hero Horse!"
Ravens will take the Magic Stone he has in hand and sling it at bandit #1, hoping to catch him before he moves or gets into combat.
1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 3 + 1 = 12 to hit;
1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 damage.
Please add +1 to hit/damage if I was appropriately inspired by say, a song, or something or blessed. I assume that since the party is acting all at the same time and we'd rather post quickly as a group than wait for things like bless or bard song, you (DM Olondir) will account for appropriate bonii/bonuses, right?

Ser Bregan Stone |

Surprise Round
I should have mentioned that Bregan would be holding shield and lance while waiting. This presumes that's OK.
Hearing the bandits conversing with Oleg, Bregan sighs.
When did I become a knight? If only the arrow had hit the princeling, I could have had gems and been retired somewhere by now...
Bregan shakes off the thought and focused on the words he overheard.
Now!
"H'yah boy!" Bregan shouted, spurring Luck out through the ajar stable door and into a crowd of unsuspecting men.
Fight with combat-trained mount (Handle Animal DC10): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Looks like the only place we can move is the 2x2 area at (K8:L9) which is a 5ft step, so no charge BUT it's a full attack!
Luck rears up and tramples bandit #4 (flat-footed in surprise round?)
Attack (bite): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 for 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 damage

Attack (hoof 2): 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1 for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 damage
Frowning at the Luck's luck, Bregan thrusts his lance towards the surprised man.
Attack (lance, power attack): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 for 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 damage

Holbrecht Bastionne |

Holbrecht also fires at the man at the rear of the group, his crossbow loaded and waiting for the drop. He lets off a weak shot, and decides he will try to move into combat.
Attack bandit 1 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11, if that hits 1d8 ⇒ 6 damage, plus 1d6 ⇒ 2 sneak attack.

Ser Bregan Stone |

A surprise round is one standard or one move action. I presume you were holding whatever weapons you prefer while waiting as well as casting buffs like what Ravens did with magic stones. They are also flat-footed.
I always forget this... Luck only got a single attack, which was of course a miss.

Areanna Delante |

Sorry for the delay, I was out sick
Areanna waits in position until the trap is sprung. She then begins a heroic melody to inspire greatness out of her comrades. She then pops up from her position on the ramparts and takes a shot at one of the bandits in the rear.
Attack:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22 +1 if the foe is within 30feet. For:1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8 + 1 more if the foe is within 30 feet.

Valeska |

Valeska looks over at Areanna with a smile, but then starts humming her own, soft, tune. She looks over the scattered men on horseback and blows a handful of soft, pink petals out towards them. The petals catch on some eldritch breeze to settle among the bandits.
Cast Sleep. DC 14 Will.

DM Olondir |

I forgot to email myself the current map file so I could update it here at work. I hope to get that posted around before 2am my time.
Surprise Round Results
A crash is heard from the stables as Ser Bregan charges out mounted on horseback startling the horses and men alike. Unfortunatley the startled horses and men put him in an awkward position as his attacks miss their intended targets.
A bandit looks over at Ser Bregan's appearance on the battle the same time as Ravens' lets loose a magic stone. It flies true and strikes the bandit's shoulder causing him to turn a little in pain and hold his shoulder with his other hand. He is clutching a blade a little bigger than a dagger. He curses you "You'll pay fer that, boy!" When a sudden bolt flies into his neck and he drops.
Vishoon's angered words and sword slice deep into Happs. Happs loses grip of his dagger and it falls to the ground. His body goes limp while entrails and blood can be seen through his cut cloth and leather armor. He is definitely unconscious and bleeding. Nice work!
Don't worry about it, Areanna! Hope you feel better. I hate being sick. I assume you weren't singing before the fight so you can remain undetected.... Since you only get one standard action this surprise round, do you inspire courage or attack with your bow? Which would you prefer? I'm going to assume you are going to inspire courage.
Areanna begins to sing a glamorous song that uplifts Holbrecht, Valeska, and herself. You hear Valeska's spell near you and her words and song seem to harmonize with yours.
A slight breeze gathers around Valeska as she sings a harmonious hymn that compliments Areanna's own song. The pink petals fly from her hand and take to a dancing flight and carry themselves to the the center of the bandits.
Valeska- Where did you center the spell? Sleep's casting time is 1 full-round. I'm not sure where this is in the rulebook or if this is a houserule I learned from DM Alexander Kilcoyne, but, since it is a surprise round, you're free to use the standard action you get to start your spell and then use your round 1's standard action to complete the spell and it immediately take effect. So your beautiful pink petals are still magestically.....twisting..in..............sorry I dazed off a moment from your gorgeous imagery.
To Holbrecht's mathematical mind, the angle vector you shot from seemed optimal at the time to inflict sufficient force, however there must have been a miscalculation. Unfortunately, the bolt seemed to be destined to graze the bandit hit by a rock (Bandit 1) and do no harm. You hear the bandit curse at Ravens. Suddenly, midway to target, you hear Areanna and Valeska singing and spot pink petals overhead. There is a slight breeze carrying the gentle, dancing petals and this breeze seems to affect your bolt! At the very last second, the bolt's trajectory changes and it lodges into the man's neck. Blood spurts and the man falls limp to the ground. He is bleeding out.

DM Olondir |

Fair enough. It is a standard action at level 1 to start a bardic performance. It is a free action to maintain one.
Update
Holbrecht's shot does indeed miss the man after all and he's alive.
Areanna's shot soars and strikes bandit 4 on the horse doing a painful 9 damage. The poor bandit is staggered after the shot barreled into his chest with deadly accuracy.
Sorry for any confusion.
Round 1
Three bandits attack Ser Bregan. The one on horseback looks to maintain the non-wartrained horse. 1d20 ⇒ 16 He fails and the horse rears resulting in nothing else being accomplished this turn
1d20 ⇒ 12
1d20 ⇒ 16
In fact, all bandits on horses are unable to do anything! The three not on the horses shout to control them so they don't get crushed. With the gate closed and the thought that death is in for them if they surrender, they will go down with a fight.
Two are in position to strike at Ser Bregan.
Bandit 2:
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Bandit 3:
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
The second bandit maneuvers into position next to his comrades and is able to pierce your leg slightly. Take 3 damage Ser Bregan..
Bandit 1, no longer dead by crossbow, charges Ravens but he easily dodges out of the way. "I'll get you, kid."
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
It's your guy's turn now for round 1. Each bandit has 9 hitpoints and an AC of 13.

Ravens the Birdmaster |

Ravens, faced with an ugly brigand, does what he can to keep alive.
"Hey, look!!! More hero horses!"
Ravens tries to dance away while the man is confused (or not...just tumbling with flair).
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 Acrobatics (tumble) from T16 to S17, then move to S19
Looks like he wasn't fooled...AoO, plz. :(
While in S17, Ravens will pull out another Magic Stone.

Bregan Attack (lance, horseback, power): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22 for 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
