Ahoy, mateys!
I'm still pondering character creation guidelines, restrictions, etc, but you can start planning out character concepts, roles, etc. Make sure you take a look through the S&S Player's Guide for the campaign traits.
Big picture, you character should encompass two things into his/her personality: a desire to be a pirate, and/or adventure on the high seas of Golarion; and a more 'shades of gray' outlook than your average heroes. I'd like to avoid any pure evil sociopaths, etc, and good characters are still welcome, though more in the Han Solo/Lando 'scoundrel' territory.
I'd like characters that fit the campaign theme (i.e., paladins and monks need not apply). The swashbuckler in the new Advanced Class Guide looks like a great fit for this type of campaign. It's not on the PRD yet, but should be soon. Lastly, don't sweat not having a completely role-balanced group (tank, healer, caster, dpr)... If you all end up playing warriors and rogues, I'll balance out the threats appropriately.

Was thinking maybe something like this guy, still looking at things though.

Skimming some of the available archetypes, the following seemed appropriate:
Alchemist: chirurgeon (UM), vivisectionist (UM)
Barbarian: drunken brute (APG), sea reaver (UC)
Bard: arcane duelist (APG), sea singer (APG)
Cavalier: musketeer (UC)
Cleric: domains of water, wind, ocean, storm, etc.
Druid: aquatic druid (APG), shark shaman (UM), storm druid (UM)
Fighter: archer (APG), brawler (UC), cad (UC), crossbowman (APG), free hand fighter (APG)
Gunslinger: buccaneer (ARG)
Ranger: skirmisher (APG)
Rogue: pirate (UC), rake (APG), spy (APG), swashbuckler (APG), thug (APG)
Sorcerer: stormborn bloodline (APG)
This list is by no means restrictive.
I'm still hashing through the rulebooks, but here are the basic creation guidelines:
- 20 point buy
- average starting gold
- no monks, paladins, or summoners
- use only stuff found on the Paizo PRD (not the PFSRD), unless I specifically clear it (there's too much splat crap out there to keep track of)
More to follow... If you have questions, send 'em my way!

I'm thinking a half-orc sea reaver barbarian. I'll post something tomorrow.
DM Fflash |
Since the Advanced Class Guide isn't on the PRD, I'm assuming it's still OK.
Definitely making a swashbuckler. Looking at the picaroon Archetype, although if Kam goes with the bucaneer gunslinger, I may wave off since the 2 archetypes are very similar.
Regardless, I'll do the swashbuckler, probably with the Bucanneers blood or native traits. Very much. Pirates pirate. Life at sea is all he has ever wanted. Plunder and infamy abound.

What about this guy? It's a pathfinder race and arch-type, not sure if it's in any restricted books.

Link to the official PRD.
The undine are from the ARG, which is on there. Meh on yet another plane-touched human offshoot, but it should work fine.

Initial hack at stats and avatar complete.
Dave can you add a gameplay link that we can dot so this pops on Wayfinder?
Magma Iron Clan |
Just so you know Magma, you can't drink potions under water, and I am assuming we may spend some time in water
are we hunting for the lost city of Atlantis??????
who says i can make a potion of water breathing.Tan D'argnan |

I expect more ship than under water. We can always have an away team.
Dave will you allow drawbacks or flaws for an extra trait or feet respectively?

Draft crunch added, going with the Daring Champion cavalier ... still a swashbuckler for all intent's and purposes, but will be a bit delayed on gaining the swashbuckler panache abilities
Still considering 1st level weapon selection and thinking over traits.
I get free teamwork feats, so if there are those that you guys would prefer let me know ... better yet, if there are those that you all want to take let me know.
For example, I'd love to take Lookout as a feat, but without someone else, it's pointless (even with my ability to share it upon activation)
Fluff is coming, but think fiery, impetuous, glory-seeking, cocky, confident, charming, but misses subtleties, innuendo and is grossly susceptible to seduction and magical influence.
Thinking a former gang leader in a coastal town turned pirate. Criminal activity borders on the minor to moderate ... a thief, smuggler, scoundrel but not an outright murderer or arsonist.
Dalamus Othreleth |
Tike, is your character more the cavalier? You mentioned the swashbuckler, but now you have gone with the Daring Champion Cavalier. I am having trouble finding that class.
One of my first thoughts was a swashbuckler as well....I mean, of course we need a damn swashbuckler....and probably a smuggler.

It's essentially a swashbuckler. He gets most of the swashbuckler abilities and I'll play him like one. Rapier wielding, panache, finesse etc.

Could play a sorcerer or wizard, Brad. Lots of good stuff there. Ice/water specialists or bloodlines.
ACG slayer looks good, so does the Hunter and even the skald.
Shaman could be interesting but looks really weird, and somewhat complicated.

Fluff added. Adjusted abilities one more time. Gear complete.
Everyone: Open question above about teamwork feats, feel free to kick in.
May still look at other traits, but for now it's good.
Sama'el Val'varen |
I honestly haven't even really looked at team work feats, I think they can be pretty cool, but so many classes are so starved for feats already that they always seem like a better idea for Warriors or classes with a lot of bonus feats.
Dave - I will get my guy done this weekend, still have like 3 ideas I want so I am going to get them all built and see which one I like best.
I know they aren't on the Pathfinder SRD, but what are your feelings on psionics? I have always loved the concept, but finding a DM that has even looked at them isn't easy and I don't want a DM to have to learn on the fly.
They just have some cool features that would work well in this AP I think.

Above he says core and featured races only. There's a slot for both on the PRD. I'll gen a list tomorrow if I think about it.
