Rules for Wilderness Travel:

In a given day the group can travel 12 miles.

12 hours each day you will need some protection from the heat.

Armor has 24 hours per level of protection you can divvy up per hour.

Every day:
DC 18 Survival to avoid getting lost
or
DC 12 Survival to follow tracks.

Avoiding getting lost is harder, but you can move further. Following tracks you can move 3/4 the days speed, but is easier. Only 1 person can be on point for this, with assists being allowed. If you fail either of these checks you only make 1/2 process.

Because you have Dr. Solstarni’s notes and the files from Ailabiens 21:2 you have a +2 on these Survival checks.

Weather:
You can use suit’s protection, air bubble, or can make a Fortitude save each hour (DC 15 + 1 per previous check) or take 1d4 nonlethal fire damage. Heavy armor gives a -4 penalty on this. You can roll a Survival at the beginning of the day to provide a bonus to this.

If you take heat damage you suffer heatstroke, (Fatigued condition). These penalties go away when you are healed of the damage.

-2 penalty for each range increment after the first. All weapons can be fired up to 10 range increments away.

Weapon Point attribute: A weapon with this special property is always short range and can’t be fired against targets that are outside the first range increment. If a tracking weapon would hit a ship in an arc that contains a weapon with the point special property, the gunner of the targeted starships can attempt an immediate gunnery check with the point weapon against the incoming tracking projectile using the bonus listed in parentheses in the weapon’s Special entry (instead of her usual bonus to gunnery checks). The DC for this gunnery check is equal to 10 + the tracking weapon’s speed. If the attack hits, the tracking weapon is destroyed before it can damage the ship. A point weapon can be used to attempt only one such free gunnery check each round, but this usage potentially allows a point weapon to be fired twice in a single round.

While the other examine the obelisk, Lefty gets distracted by the rifle that DeeV8 indicated and slings his heavy laser over his back.

"Hey sweet!" Lefty picks up the gun and wipes it off on some nearby foliage.
Left looks down the sights at a fallen log as he talks excitedly.
"It's a Frostbite-class Zero rifle! Oooh, I remember thinking of getting this instead of my hailcannon-" he gives the trigger a squeeze and then turns the weapon over in his hands. "-it holds a bigger battery but it doesn't go full-auto."

He holds up the ice-ray shooting device, looking to see if anyone is interested in it.

Lefty's gun is heavier and carries less ammo, but it is automatic and targets KAC instead of EAC :3


It seems like the Oblisk is not magical, but it was likely a method for people of acient times to get above the tree tops and gaze at the stars. It seems like these elven people gazed upward and either worshiped the stars or found some power there.

Halkueem Zan wrote of this object "A dramatic spire barely rising above the tree line was the first of our great landmarks, each side of it was once engraved with untold wisdom, but only the sheltered rues near the base have survived the ages. The plants here grow thicker, asi f feeding upon the gifts left by the ancient elves - sacrifices of flesh and blood, no doubt"

The idea that the elves sacrificed here, seems unlikely from what you can tell. More likely they gazed at the stars. Which makes sense, since the writing found on the drift rock matches some of the writing Zan found in another set of ruins. So these elven people of ancient times knew something of this writing, and maybe more. This Obelisk was just one of, likely many, observational towers used to look up into the sky.

For now, it seems safe here, you would be able to sleep. Or you can continue on for a bit more traveling today. Zan's notes still mention something called a The Plague Warden, The Forsaken City, and The Stairs to Eternity. You also seem to be on the trail of the Cultists, since the dead cultist here is not too old. Only a few days.

Not sure if the frost gun is a straight upgrade for anyone, but d8 cold isn't bad damage...

Lefty shrugs and, while all but ignoring the corpse, adds "Well, I kind of want to go hunt some of those flying furballs now, but I think we should probably get going. The doctor might be counting on us."

In fact, that might be the wise thing in case those monkeys circle back to harass us again if we camp here."

The halfling also sat for a short time resting after dealing with some angry native creatures and a man-eating plant, 'All in the day of being a Starfinder, apparently."

Sybil takes up the Frostbite-class Zero rifle for now. Her own laser rifle is adequate but, you never know when you might need to change tactics. "I will use the rifle for now." she mentioned the the group as no one else has spoken up.

"Only a few left," She answers Dee, "But I should be good for what the rest of the day will leave for us."

If we are heading out," The small being rises from where she was sitting, "We should be on our way sooner rather than later.


As those of you who wish to rest and recuperate their stamina do so. The rest prepare to head back out of this area. Overall not too worse for ware.

About 100 feet away through the trees you see a colorful creature. It seems to be watching, maybe stalking your group from a distance. It has greater cover through the trees. From where you are, you can't make out what it is.

The halfling was looking to the stars when something off to one side caught her attention. It made her stop a moment and she slowly made her way to Tylur and she taps the warrior, she whispers to him and anyone else near by, "To my at five o'clock,100 feet or so out, there is some sort of creature there... it is watching us..."

"Understood..." Tylur whispers back, "Thanks for the sharp eyes. You're pretty handy even in the wilderness, Syb." The soldier shifts around, pretending to do various camping tasks, but he uses those motions to occasionally glance in the direction the halfling indicated to get a better sense of who or whatever is tailing them.

But, try as he might, his taller stature must put him at the wrong angle to get a good view through the foliage. So, Tylur leans back down to Sybil to continue their quiet conversation.

"Do you think you can get a closer look at them without being noticed? It might be one of the kidnappers, if we're lucky...or, some other predator out in the wilds, if we're not. Whatever you do, keep safe and I'll be ready to support you if things turn bad."

He then leaves the halfling for a moment to quietly visit with the rest of the team, alerting them to the situation, telling each one: "Hey...don't be alarmed or overreact. Sybil just noticed we've picked up someone or something following us...or just observing our camp. Could be anything, but we should be on guard in case they're hostile. We don't know exactly who or what it is yet. So, act normal until we figure it out. And, be ready in case something bad happens."

As the group looks up toward it it seems to be startled and run into the deep woods. Out of sight quickly.

As you continue to set up camp for the night. Starting to rest. Before the group all starts to take watches a few of you notice a brightly colored creature walk into the clearing where you are camping.

The creature seems to wriggle tentacles and gurgling audibly. It glances at each of you, softly.

This seems to be a Ksarik, a mobile plant. It heals fast, and has a form of spores it can inject into creatures to spawn.

It is not evil, just a living creature

I don't think that's how survival works, though after double checking the skill page I realized that
a) The colorful creature is probably unfriendly
and
b) We can probably improve its attitude to indifferent with a high enough survival check...

Yeah I think you would have to do life science to get info about the creature. Survival is more about your surviving in the wilds. Not as much about creatures.

As you look at it, it twists its eye stalks, still nearly 85 feet away from you.. then seems to move suddenly. Shooting a dart out of its shoulder at Ahri.

Lefty's watches the dart fly towards Ahri a moment before realizing what just happened.
{I'll take that as permission to fire at will!}

He quickly whips his heavy laser off of his back, disengages the safety, looks down the scope for a firing solution, and pulls the trigger.

As one of the newest members of the team is attacked at a distance from a strange plant the halfling kneels as she takes up her Azimuth Rifle. She is taking aim at the creature as she replies to Zhelaeuss, "Yes, being attacked is usually a good sign."

"Ah, crap!" Tylur snarls as yet another unknown predator on the gods-forsaken planet attacks them. He quickly snaps his autorifle up and takes a shot.

Dee learns a little about the creature and lets the group know. Lefty takes a shot and it just hits one of the trees in the way.

Ahri also takes a quick shot.
Ahri Pistol: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17

Sybil, Ahri, and Tylur’s shots follow suit and strike a tree.

The creature seems to turn around, running deeper into the forest. Moving gracefully through the trees. It seems to be out of signt for now.

Combat over for now. You can chase after it if you wish, but it was moving quite fast

You where setting up camp when it showed up. Ahri got hit, but it moved on. What does the group do?

"Well that's gonna be a problem..." Tylur grumbles as he lets the creature retreat. "Sybil? If Dee's right and that thing injects spores into creatures to spawn, you might want to lend some first aid to Ahri." The big soldier takes another look at the terrain where they were about to set camp, double-checking the sight-lines and defensible positions in the event the ksarik were to return. "Lefty? You think we should keep moving? Or maybe stay and set some traps or a few early-warning tripwires in case that thing comes back?"

Ahri got hit, but not wounded really. I'm unfamiliar with how such abilities work in Pathfinder. I would play that as actually not having been hit, only barely?


Yeah its a bit weird, some things require HP damage, but disease/poisons can happen if it strikes only stamina too. Up to you on how you want to play it though. You did get hit, but it wasn't enough to really count for HP.

As the group takes turns and watches watching out for the thing to come back.

"I can take a look at it..." Tylur offers. "I'm mostly used to quick first aid on the battlefield, though. Not sure I can diagnose any alien infections..."

Dylur takes a close look at the wound. At first it just looks like a tiny peircing, but with a small press in the area around it, a small amount of white liquid with what looks like a tiny plant spore comes out. It seems to already have sprouted tiny vines into the flesh around it. Already feeding off of Ahri's flesh.

She definitely seems infected, though you imagine it wont start to show any negatives for about a day. It can be treated as a Disease.

"Yep. Looks like it got you good. Infection has already started, but you're not in extreme danger yet," Tylur advises Ahri. "We could probably put a medpatch on it and your boosted metabolism could fight it off. Might take a couple of days, though..."

He looks back at the forest. "The troubling thing...is we're all in danger of becoming infected if that thing keeps coming back. We might have to put it down first, and then assess how many of us need treatment..."

we need a medkit, or a medpatch. We could also waste our sprayflesh. Well, without a medkit to stack with, maybe the sprayflesh wouldn't be a waste, haha xD

Lefty shrugs and searches through his bag.
Eventually he finds a can of Sprayflesh. "Um, I have some stuff that might help, but it's one use. Do any of you guys have a med-kit?"


Unless you have a method to remove disease, someone can do a Medicine check on you, which will give you a bonus next time you have to roll for it.

You all spend a moment to work on Ahri. Mostly you will need to wait to see if your body can fight it off. Maybe someone can help out your natural healing system.

Also that creature is still out there somewhere.

I am not sure what everyone has. Ahri is not suffering yet, so you can wait a bit longer.. What is the plan? Or should we continue with the night?

"We won't know how bad until we see how well her body tries to fight it off. Sorry, Ahri. I know you probably didn't sign up for this when you joined the team. But this is the kind of stuff we deal with on a semi-regular basis these days."

Tylur stands and surveys the campsite again. "We could try moving...to put some distance between us and that thing in case it comes back. But, in all honesty, I don't think stumbling about in the dark or lighting up the night is the wisest thing either. Not with so many predators about. I just wish we had something we could use to keep that creature at bay...to dissuade it from coming back to infect more of us. Or leading more of its kind to use us as incubators, too."

He pauses and considers all the tactical options for a long moment. When he speaks again, it's with a bit more clarity and confidence. "Okay then. We stay. And we pair up for watch duty. Nobody stands guard solo. We watch each others' backs. We put that thing down if it comes around again. And we make Ahri as comfortable as we can until we figure out how best to treat her infection."

The halfling is still not feeling herself but noticed that Tylur has looked over Ahri and there was little to do with out a medkit that no one had presently.

"I guess we will have to invest in a medkit at sometime or see if the bad guys have one when we catch up with them." she comments to the medkit question.

She nods to Tylur, "Sounds like a plan..."

She watches for any trouble, and with the darkness falling, switches to her infrared sensors... Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23


As the group doubles up on watches. Sybil, using her infrared sensors, sees the creature circling the group. Never quite getting close enough. Just enough to know it is out there. Flitting around the group.

Near the morning, it is seen running further away. Along the trail you where planning on going the next day. So you know it is likely ahead of you. How far, you are not sure.

As the morning comes Ahri stands and checks herself.
Ahri fort: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
She fees a little weak and not quite herself, very out of energy and lethargic. You are Weakened, which means sickened and fatigued. So -2 penalty to Strength and Dex, you cant run or charge. Definitally need to be life bubbled so you don't become exhausted. You also have -2 on all Attack Rolls, Damage rolls, Saving Throws, Skill checks, and ability checks

She is able to move, but it will be rough.

What is the plan for the day. I am not going to roll all the Skill checks, because it slows things down even more. But you need to continue on.

Also glad to have everyone back. lets keep the flow going! :-). Sybil, did you have a condition from earlier, or is it gone now. Trying to remember.

"Alright, folks! Saddle up!" Tylur announces. He gazes with grim concern at Ahri's condition. Maybe the lashunta was in over her head?

"When we move out, we keep eyes all around. If that thing's trailing us, it's hunting us...or at least checking up on its...ummm, offspring?" The big soldier hefts his pack, tightening the straps to keep it in place. "Ahri? You let us know when you need a break. We can only move as fast as your pace will allow. It's important to catch up to Dr. Solstarni, but not at the risk of losing your life. So, make sure you communicate your status."

"Everyone ready to move? Let's go..."

I think it's 2 long rests to drop 1 step on a poison track.
I think this is the morning of day 5 and lefty needs a second long rest to sleep off his poison.
@Sybil: you had the second step on dex poison, right?

Nodding enthusiastically at Tylur's pep talk, Lefty readies his biggest gun.

In spite of feeling sluggish, Lefty tries to keep an eye out for anything else that wants to eat, poison, or otherwise skewer any of the new Drift Rock 5.

He also tries to help Sybil find the way forward, occasionally offering a hand to help the halfling over larger obstacles.

"Agreed, let us 'saddle up.'" Dee stated a puzzled look washing over her elf-like features. "Tylur, what exactly does saddle up mean? I do believe it is a word used in reference to riding some sort of mount?" She added, analyzing the word. Unholstering her weapon, she placed it in the crook of her shoulder as they began their trek once more.

Keeping alert, logic dictated that the creature wasn't going to be shaken that easily.

"We must keep an eye on Ahri, for I fear if whatever the creature has done to her, it isn't going to be an easy walk in the jungle." Dee said loud enough for only Tylur could hear.

"It's not necessarily a literal thing, Dee..." Tylur explains, "Yes, if we had mounts, it would be. But, in less literal terms, it simply means to gather our things and get ready to move. For those who ride, the first step in getting ready to leave is to grab your saddle. For us, it means grab your gear and let's go..."

"Agreed." Tylur mutters the word for the android's ears only. "She doesn't strike me as the hardiest of natives. And I'm not sure she's suited to this hiking about in such a hostile environment. Hopefully, Sybil can help keep an eye on her condition. If it worsens, I've got a medpatch we can apply that might bolster her immune system for a bit. But it won't last. And neither will we if that thing infects anyone else. So keep a sharp lookout. It'll be tough considering it's got better camouflage than us. We really don't need anymore surprises."

Tylur sets a reasonable pace thereafter, calling breaks to rest and hydrate. At each stop, he makes sure Ahri is off her feet to replenish her stamina as much as possible. And, he frequently consults with Sybil as their resident medic for the halfling's opinion on the lashunta's deteriorating health.

Hearing the phrase 'saddle up', Lefty does the telepathic equivalent of mumbling whistfully {Shotalashu...}

Rather then explain about the beast again, Lefty just scratches behind his antennae.


As the group moves forward, a bit slower with a few of you slowed from various conditions. Ahri's being the worst. It is a bit slowing today. As you have moved for most of the day, you start to hear a moaning from up ahead on your path.

So far no signs of the creature from any of you. It could have either done what it wanted, is extra stealthy somewhere, or is just not watching you currently.

You all stop and listen. It sounds like someone is in pain up ahead. Definitely sounds like a humanoid of some kind.

You are all a bit farther away from the sound. What do you wish to do? It seems to be along your path. You could avoid it, but going around. But someone definitely seems in pain.

"Well...at a minimum...it seems there's someone else out here. Friend or foe, they might have crossed paths with our quarry. So better to cautiously come to their aid than pass by..." Tylur draw his blade and handgun. "Dee? Lefty? Spread out and create a flanking line of sight to either side of me. I'll go in and check it out. Sybil? Stay with Ahri. If things go south, I'd rather you two hang back, but try and cover us from range, if you can. If you stay close enough for Lefty to communicate with Ahri, we can coordinate and relay whatever we find."

"Any questions or suggestions?" the soldier looks around at everyone, prepared to adjust the plan if anyone offers up an alternate idea.

Not sure if the condition is gone, she did fail two checks before succeeding.

The halfling is unusually quiet, but she continues to push along with the others trying to keep watch for trouble, the creature, any traps or the like left in the baddies' wake.

At the new sound of some moans she attempts to be alert.
