M Human (Chelaxian) Rogue 4

Hafdan will let loose with an arrow as the creature begins to move.

Readied Action
Shortbow attack on nymph creature 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10 (even with flat-footed, probably a miss)
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5 (+ sneak attack 1d6 ⇒ 5)

After that, during his next regular turn, Hafdan will drop his shortbow to the ground as a Free Action, then draw his shortwords as a Move action and then his second Move action will hopefully be used to move into flanking with one of the other PC's.

I'll hold until they come to range and then attack them

Hafdan's arrow flies wide, sailing off through the trees. The gray-skinned being jumps down from the branch onto the dirt below.

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29

Once there it edges towards the group slightly and casts a spell. It is now about 30 feet from the group.

DC 17 Spellcraft check to identify the spell. Kendall and Marc give me DC 11 will saves.

The cythnigot flies down towards the group but manages to deftly avoid the bolt from Bealzius and the arrow from Lucrezia. It also begins to cast a spell and suddenly the ground beneath you all turns to thick, soft mud, starting to cause you to sink into it.

DC 17 Spellcraft to identify. Everyone needs to make a DC 12 Reflex save. Failure means you can't act for 1d2 ⇒ 1 rounds. Success lets you act normally, but movement speed is halved in the mud and no one can run or charge. Bealzius give me a DC5 Ride check as well to stay in the saddle.

Hafdan darts up, moving next to the nymph creature and preparing to attack it.

"Foul creature, I'll send you back to the abyss!!"

Will save 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Reflex save 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Spellcraft 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

Edit: Darn I missed spellcraft, guess ya can't have all good rolls

Reflex 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Spellcraft 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Knowledge (for the gray guy) 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

Attack (flying thing) 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Damage 1d6 ⇒ 3

Lucrezia will attempt to shoot at the flying doglike thing again. Then she will move as far as she is able to in an attempt to reach some solid ground.

Well, good to get that out of the way.

Reflex Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

Marc seems to be struggling in the mud and unable to act.

Edit: Missed a Will Save. Will Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16

M Human (Chelaxian) Rogue 4

Hafdan drops his bow to his feet, pulling his blades free and moving towards the nymph-like creature.

Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
From your description I didn't know if I needed to make the reflex save or not as I wasn't as close to the rest of the group but there it is. Otherwise that's my full Round 1, getting the weapons out and moving up to the fey.

Round 2

Bealzius urges his horse out of the mud. Once completed, he will dismount on dry land and command the horse to guard the workers.

Round 3
With a wave of his hand, and an incantation
casting summon minor monsters 1d3 ⇒ 2 fiendish bats appear and attack the goblin dog.

summon minor monsters is a full round casting time. (I thought it was a standard action before, huh.)

Circles of glowing runes appear in the air as Bealzius lifts up a candle, lit magically by his touch, and begins chanting a spell in infernal and draconic. He waves the candle in a circle as the energy in the floating portals gathers.

Round 4
Two fiendish bats appear out of the glowing circle, screeching, and wrapped in infernal flame. They attack the devil dog.

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
1d3 - 4 ⇒ (2) - 4 = -2

Tiny creatures enter a targets space to attack, so attack of opportunity. AC 16, hp 2.

[1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
1d3 - 4 ⇒ (1) - 4 = -3

Bealzius draws out a scroll and begins to read it aloud. A large glowing circle appears before him on the ground, surrounded by infernal runes. Casting summon fiendish dog. from scroll. Also a full round casting time.

At the end of the round, the fiendish bats disappear in a puff of sulfurous smoke.

Hafdan, you are on solid ground at the moment, as is the nymph-like thing. It is on the outside edge of the mud right at the moment.

Lucrezia:
The creature seems like it is a fey of some sort. It looks kind of like a male nymph crossed with a satyr, but has gray skin and a sort of menacing demeanor.

Bealzius:
The first spell, cast by the nymph thing was Heat Metal.

Lucrezia's arrow flies wide again and then she trudges through the mud. She is able to make it a bit more than halfway to the edge of the muck, the sticky mud sucking at her legs with each step.

The gray thing turns to Hafdan and attempts to claw at his face, stepping to the side 5 feet so that its back is no longer to the mud.

Claw 1: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Claw 1 Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Claw 2: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15

The cythnigot flies straight down towards Bealzius as it sees him move the horse out of the mud, charging to attack him. Up close the creature's appearance is even more sickening than it seemed before, almost provoking a physical response.

This would provoke, but no one within reach has any melee weapons out to threaten with. Bealzius give me a DC 9 will save to resist the horrific appearance. Getting the horse to defend the people is a move action for a Handle Animal check at DC10 so you can either dismount this round (round 2) or direct the horse.

Bite attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

Will
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14

As the demonic creature's tentacles expand around him, Bealzius holds his ground.

In Abyssal.

"Why don't you go back to whatever abyss you crawled out of."

Bealzius dismounts. Obviously as part of his spell casting, Bealzius will take a 5 foot step away from the demon.

Edit: Change of Tactics. It's pretty ridiculous to cast a one round spell while a demon is 5 feet away from me.

Round Three

Bealzius drops the crossbow and draws his shortspear instead.

In abyssal,

"Well, cythnigot. I'm not sure why you're coming after me. My soul is devoted to Asmodeus. When I die, I join the infinite army opposing you in the underworlds. Explain that to the Lord of Pestilence, if you can."

If the goblin dog continues to threaten him, Bealzius attacks.

Lucrezia's next actions will be to continue towards the edge and she will break into song. Her song of choice is meant to Inspire Courage.

Inspire Courage:
An affected ally receives a +1 morale bonus on saving throws against charm and fear effects and a +1 competence bonus on attack and weapon damage rolls.

Round 3: Initiative: 23, AC: 21

When Marc can act and move again, he'll advance towards the gray "thing" and attempt to flank it with Halfdan. I assume this will require a double move if the ground is still muddy.

M Human (Chelaxian) Rogue 4

Hafdan grits his teeth, biting back the grunt as the claw slashes into him. He swings his blades, looking to return the favor in kind.

Round 2:
Five foot step to make sure I am able to flank with Marc when he gets into melee next round. Then full attack.
Primary: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12 Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Off-hand: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18 Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Round 3:
Primary: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19 (20 with flanking), Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 (+ sneak attack 1d6 ⇒ 3)
Off-hand: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 (safe to assume that's a miss)Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Round 2 and 3 Attack and Damage strings include the +1 from Lucrezia's Inspire Courage.

Round 3

Marc can get into melee with the guy this round (which is actually 3), it just takes a double move as noted. So Hafdan, your attacks even this round get the +2 from flanking since you act after that (Round one was the readied shot and round two was the moving and weapon draws, so you have shifted round numbers by one =P). The first attack still misses, but you can roll sneak attack damage for the off-hand which hits.

The cythnigot flies in towards Bealzius, dodging out of the way of his shortspear. It once again attempts to bite at him, hissing in a high pitched tone at his words.

Bite: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Bite damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Bealzius, you get an attack of opportunity as well. And then give me a DC 11 Fort save to resist the spores. Failure means you are entangled and can attempt a new save as a standard action each round.

The gray-skinned creature claws at Hafdan, again, seeming visibly worried that it is now between him and Marc. When struck by Hafdan's weapon it cries out, though it clearly takes less damage than one would expect given the strength of the blow.

Claw 1: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Claw 1 damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Claw 2: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14

Waiting for Lucius before the next round. He acts before the gray-skinned guy but his action won't change theirs.

Attack of Opportunity
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Fort Save
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Uh huh. Yeah. I'm gonna survive long in this game.

As Marc circles the gray skinned creature he notes Bealzius' fall out of the corner of his eye. Get that thing off of Bealzius! Then, without pause, he strikes out at the creature before him.

Round 4: Initiative: 23, AC: 19

Attack with Longsword (Power Attack, Flank, Inspire Courage): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Damage with Longsword (Power Attack, Inspire Courage): 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14

Attack with Heavy Shield (Power Attack, Flank, Inspire Courage): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17

Bealzius Cremnor wrote:

You may want to move back towards the rest of the group =P Though creatures are unlikely to attempt to kill someone once they are down (assuming you even go down) if there are still enemies standing that are a threat. That said, someone attacking it could also get its attention.

It is currently impossible to charge while within the mud. You can double move to reach either creature and they are both roughly the same distance from you.

Still round 3

The cythnigot is somewhat injured by Lucius's arrows, crying out in a squeaky voice. Over the course of the four arrows shot in mere seconds, two hit their mark though it seems to be fairly resistant to the damage.

Will run all of the Round 4 actions once I get the round 2-3 stuff from Kendall.

You can try to cast a spell, but you are entangled by the tendrils sprouting from you until you take a standard action to attempt a new save and succeed. If you want to cast while entangled you just need to make a DC16 Concentration check.

Round 4

Marc's longsword strikes the gray-skinned creature across the chest and it howls out in Sylvan as he follows his a shield strike to its side. Lucrezia's arrow strikes the cythnigot, finally felling the creature and it falls to the ground with a high pitched howl. Lucius turns on the gray skinned being, his first arrow dropping it to the ground as well. For the moment, the forest seems to be silent, and even the men from the town seem like they are holding their breath.

@Kendall - Please clarify which creature who's head you cut off. Lucrezia and Marc are at the grey creature and would likely object to it being beheaded while one is searching it and the other is attempting to identify it.

Well Lucius asked for the creature be beheaded, so I did not find anything against that reasoning to make sure it is dead, but if you would object to it, I would stay my hand long enough for any research be done on it, before I do it"

Just to be clear, you're walking across the battlefield from the cythnigot (as I assume you were headed that way to help Bealzius during the battle) to behead the gray creature? If so, Marc will move to stop you if he notices while searching the creature and checking if it's alive. I'm just waiting to learn if it's dead already and if Marc found anything to respond to Lucius' request. Though I guess I can make his intent more clear. Oh, and I'm not looking to make this a huge confrontation or anything. I fully expect Marc will be willing to execute the creature. He's just not right now. Normally I wouldn't write so much out-of-character, but I thought I'd make it clear that I'm not trying to start any antagonism between the characters.

Perception (to search and/or notice Kendall coming if either are necessary): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25

Marc continues his search of the creature and checking if it still lives, obviously disregarding Lucius' request to finish it off.

Lucrezia:
Now that you can more closely examine the thing, it appears to be a forlarren, a creature born of a nymph mother and some sort of demonic father.

As Marc searches the creature, he finds a belt pouch. Inside it has 200 gold pieces and three vials, one with a silver liquid, the other two green. As far as he can tell the creature is dead, but as it seems to be some sort of fey that may or may not be accurate.

Everyone notices what everyone else is doing, so feel free to attempt to stop beheadings or go through with them as you see fit.

The men seem anxious to leave and Ludwig speaks up. I think we've got enough wood for a good while. I ain't keen on hanging around much longer unless you think we need to. The others finish securing the trees as best they can, though their focus seems to be on speed instead of anything else.

Everyone can take 500 XP each for this series of encounters.

Marc tosses the pouch to Lucrezia and nods to Lucius and the approaching Kendall. It is, indeed, dead. Is Bealzius alright?

He walks over to help Bealzius. When he notices the man's wound, Do you need a healer? He relaxes a bit when he notices Bealzius isn't going to pass out from blood loss. I owe you an apology. It seems you were the only one of us able to speak with these things. And it appears they were looking for any excuse to attack. He looks around and then towards the townsfolk. Now, let's get out of these woods.

Lucrezia will step away from the creature now. Now that I've gotten a closer look at the creature, I believe it to be a forlarren, a creature born of a nymph mother and some sort of demonic father. Looks around at the corpses. I don't know that either body appears fearsome enough to hang upon the wall as a deterrent. Sighs.

Trusting the words of Marc I go towards Bealzius and ask again if he needs any medical assistance.

Perhaps their unnatural nature could be enough, but they do not look that fearsome, they are mere lemures...

Concentration

Fortitude Save

Bealzius is still shaken by the spores infecting his body(?). The tendrils of mold still entangle him, and he attempts to shake them off.

As the others approach him,

"I will be well once I remove this demonic curse from my body. It is a disgusting fungus which spreads through the abyssal realms and carries chaos with it where ever it goes."

(I will also be well, when I can roll something higher than 5. My last 5 rolls: 1,3,2,1,3)

Marc recoils as Bealzius shows him the wound and tendrils. When he recovers he remarks, Hrmph, hold still. Perhaps we can pull those out for you. Marc is going to attempt to aid Kendall, if Bealzius permits them, if he tries to perform a Heal check on Bealzius. If it's considered a disease then we won't have any mechanical affect as the check takes 10 minutes and it seems to be a per round thing, but Marc would at least try to help if he can.

I'm going to say yes since you lose the spell as well. Otherwise no, there is no damage from the tendrils, so you can keep trying until you are free.

As far as the creatures go, if you are looking for hideous, the sinspawn is an aberration and quite hideous, but if you are looking for both large and hideous you'll have to continue deeper though it gets more dangerous the farther you go in.

While burning them does sound like a good idea, it will take time to get more wood for a fire hot enough to burn them both, plus we'll have to stay nearby and tend it to make sure that it burns them both completely and to make sure that we do not accidentally start a raging forest fire. The longer we stay here, the longer we risk more attacks by whatever else may be lurking in this forest. Looks back the creatures again. What do you woodcutters think? Would the grey skinned one likely give the bandits pause or no?

Marc turns to the others when Bealzius is finally free of tendrils. I'd like to be clear on something. I've no intention of slaughtering every creature we come upon. I don't mind killing, and I'll certainly hunt down anything that's a danger to the village, but I'm not interested in invading someone's home and then threatening to kill them. He looks around the group to each in turn. These creatures didn't attack until we threatened to kill them. He pauses and looks to Kendall. Now, perhaps they were just looking for an excuse to attack. But there's no reason to give them one. This could easily have all been a misunderstanding.
