The pebble reveals the pool to be about waist deep, slime coats the bottom and promises to make finding purchase difficult.
No encounters right here but traversing the waters to go deeper into the cavern reveals that the floor beneath the waters is extremely slick, requiring DC 15 Acrobatics checks to remain standing. Future reference for if you have an encounter deeper in the cavern.
Crossing the waters and delving further forces you to cross the waters a second time. The main tunnel continues deeper, the pool occupying the left side, shortly coming to another side tunnel on your right.
"Well, at least it isn't the waters of the swamp," Rishana murmurs as the group is forced to wade in and out of the pool as they continue delving into the cavern. "Less likely to get sick or an infected wound," she nods.
When the group comes to another split in the path she glances back over her shoulder and then towards the side tunnel. "I think checking this side tunnel first would be best."
The side passage continued onward for a short distance before itself splitting into a natural T-intersection, the two branches curving away so that, without venturing further, nothing can been seen down them.
"Wonderful," Rishana sighs. "If we press on, I would vote for the left passageway. Otherwise, maybe returning to the main tunnel for now would be wiser. We don't want to wander too far off course."
"I guess this could go anywhere in the hills," says Leo with a slight frown. "How about we just make sure nothing is gonna come running out from behind us if a fight breaks out? Once we've secured our flank, we move on."
The party advanced to the T-intersection, single-file due to the width of the tunnel. Down the right could be seen an opening to a small cavern, from which came the distinctive hiss of a giant spider. The left passage continued onward to another juncture of it's own, two more narrow tunnels branching off.
"Not that I'm itching for a fight but the more creatures we leave at our backs, the worse it might be for us should they decide to come hunting after all," Rishana says grimly.
"I don't particularly care. If you wish to put the beast down, then do it, rather than standing here discussing it. We're not going to accomplish anything if we have to stop and discuss what we're going to do next every single time we find a crossroads."
Rishana nods. "Daichi has a point. Let's be done with it, then." As the two brothers prepare themselves for battle Rishana does the same, drawing and readying her longbow.
Readied Action:
Once the brothers make their attack or the spider advances, Rishana lets fly with an arrow at the oversized arachnid!
Derric prepared himself in case the spider advanced.
He is now readied against the spider advancing. Pretty much, if the spider approaches him or tries to get by him, the spider's movement will be interrupted and Derric gets a free attack against it.
Kiko just hung back for now, though she did draw her sling and loaded it. There was very little she could do against creatures like the spider and she'd rather save more powerful things for when they met the rest of the undead.
Looking for two replacement players for my Jade Regent campaign. We currently have A cavalier, a warpriest, and an arcanist. Character build rolls are in the spoiler below. We need a rogue-type character. Someone with disable device at least. The other new player can be what ever we fell will help fill out and round out the party. I will be taking my player input on applications but I reserve right of final say. If you have any questions feel free to post them here or PM me.
Character Creation Guidelines:
-Characters are level 1
-Average starting wealth
-Classes from Core, APG, UM, UC, ACG, and Unchained are acceptable.
-Please none of the new classes that were play tested(pathfinders taken on Psionics)
-Standard races would be prefered, but I will consider things from the ARG based on background and strength of argument for why this race should be allowed.
-NO third party publishing sources allowed!
-All other Paizo products will be allowed
-Race traits, feats, magic items, and alternate class features from the ARG are allowed but you can not build your own custom race.
-2 traits one of which has to be a campaign trait from the Jade Regent players guide.
-20 point buy with no stat above 18 or below 10 before racial adjustment.
The new players will be selected on Monday April 11th.
Hi, I've had a switch hitter ranger that I've wanted to play for a very long time.
Would be a good second party choice I hope. Though she should have no problem investing stat points in Disable Device if necessary. Thematic enough for a ranger. Details below:
Ielah Yelah, Young human ranger. Switch Hitter, Tracker and Survivalist.
Orphaned at a young age Ielah grew up in a Sandpoint orphanage. Unhappy she took to wandering away from the not very vigilant orphanage keepers into the wilderness around the city whenever she could. It is during these jaunts that she caught the eye of Shaelu. Impressed by the young girl's natural talents in the outdoors Shaelu became Ielah's unofficial mentor.
Under her tutelage Ielah has grown up to be an accomplished ranger. She doesn't feel very connected to Sandpoint as she grew up an orphan. Her love of the outdoors and wanderlust has led her to worship Desna though. She is a natural scout and a good fighter and would jump at a chance to join a caravan heading to mysterious far away lands. Especially if her adopted big sister is going as well.

I've gotten better at stat blocks/character sheets since I built her and I would redo it if picked :)
@ElegantlyWasted: I bounced over to the campaign page via Derric's profile and looked at the other characters. Looks like there's a crush on Shalelu for the arcanist Leokian Trasandoral. EDIT: Ninja'd!
I'm all fine with making shared backgrounds, though I've not decided yet exactly what kind of submission to make. I note that this group is focusing on healing via the warpriest, which usually becomes a problem after a few levels, so I'm thinking of writing up something with some backup healing ability.
Currently leaning toward a hunter, but I could also be swayed to some kind of rogue or even a monk.
No worries! I'll snag another campaign trait, there's still a ton that can work without the romance factor.
I would have checked myself but can only steal brief instances to post whilst at work.
@Jesse- Unchained Monk is great.
@ElegantlyWasted: Don't have a compelling concept in mind at the moment for a shaman, though I'll keep it in the back of my head in case something comes up.
I'd probably be looking at taking either Best Friend - Ameiko, or Younger Sibling - Ameiko. In the latter case the character would be the illegitimate child of Lonjiku, Ameiko's father, and a Magnimaaran prostitute.
As far as classes go I'm not sold on anything so far. Looking at possibly going Alchemist (Toxicant/Vivisectionist) or perhaps Witch (Herb Witch).
One last question (for now); is retraining, as mentioned in Ultimate Campaign, possible? I ask because I'd like to go Swashbuckler (Inspired Blade) at level 2. That will help with some of the feat tax, because as far as combat goes I'd like to go melee with a rapier. However, I'd like to take weapon finesse as one of my 1st level feats. If I can't retrain, that will clearly be a wasted feat. Which will be ok, worst case scenario is I can use a ranged weapon for first level and wait until second for finesse.

I am extremely interested. I love trappers. I am running a PFS table tonight and gaming F2F this Saturday at local Con. I will draw something up tomorrow after work.
Taka was born after the Kaijitsu family fled from Tian Xia. He is native to Sandpoint. He grew up in the shadow of his eldest sister Ameiko and brother Tsuto. His father Lonjiku would entertain him with stories of brave and honorable samurai. Taka wanted to be like these brave men, but he was physically weak. As he got older he would study the history of his family. He would ask his father to tell him the same stories over and over of their honorable ancestors. He would be found even sneaking out to the local taverns to hear the tells of the visiting adventurers.
One day when flipping through one of his favorite books he discovered the binding getting week from years of use. As he felt and picket at it he noticed something along the back cover. He picked at the binding more and was able to pull back part of the back cover. A small piece of parchment fell to the floor. It was written in Tian. Taka had a bit of trouble with it as he was first taught the common tounge of the Varisian people to help blend in. He had discovered what seemed to be a ritual, a binding ritual to be exact.
This secret ritual was one of great power. He knew the name at the bottom. Hishiro Kaijitsu. It was his great grandfather. His father spoke of Hishiro and his mystical power. He was know as the Great Oni Slayer. Further examination revealed the binding ritual was the source of Hishiro’s power. The ritual called on the power of the Kaijitsu family and bound the spirit to the wielder. This excited Taka. From here on he was determined to complete the ritual. He became self involved. His relationship with Ameiko became distant. Even more so after her argument with Tsuto caused her to leave.
It has been over a year now. Ameiko returned for the funeral of their mother. Her accidental death a tragedy. She was pushed away again by an argument with Tsuto, but this time she stayed. She used the gold she had made adventuring to open up the Rusty Dragon. Now the Dragon has become the top Tavern in Sandpoint. Taka continues his work while living at the family manor while Ameiko stays at the tavern. Finally Taka had a breakthrough and was able to finish the translation of the ritual. He has bound the ancestral spirit which enhances him physically. He is excited to tell Ameiko of it and how he wishes to make a name adventuring.
You didn't say anything about backstory but I like to have one. Hope you guys like. As a player I am very active. I post 10 times a day or so. Probably a little less now as 3 or 4 games have went away recently. Taka will be taking level 2 as a Crypt breaker Alchemist so I can find and disable magical traps. After I will continue in Summoner. Hope to get to play with you guys. Taka should be able to tank and can offer some healing in the form of infernal healing. I know the Synth Summoner has a bad rap but I have played them multiple times. I like the biped and won't be all pouncing tons of attacks with tentacle type monster. I'm playing off as an ancestral spirit that helps me me a Samurai :)
Build-wise, I'm going skill monkey but I don't want to be totally gimped in combat. For level 2, I'm going to take a level of Swashbuckler (Inspired Blade), for Weapon Finesse and Weapon Focus for the rapier. I'll then retrain my level 1 feat of Weapon Finesse for Fencing Grace so that I can add dex to damage with a rapier.
After that, I think I'm going full Investigator. Probably will gain the ability to make Mutagens first before taking other talents, but if in play it seems like I need to build a certain way to help the group, I will probably go that way. Also with Empricist and Student of Philosophy I'll be applying my Int to Diplomacy, Disable Device, Perception, Sense Motive, UMD and Bluff checks to convince someone of a lie at level 3 to make me less multiple ability dependent. I do start with Trapfinding and add 1/2 my level to Perception checks to find traps and Disable Device checks, so I think I'm good there, especially once I hit 3!
If there's any feedback you have for me or something you'd like to see that would be more beneficial to the group please let me know!
Am just passing through but wanted to make a comment.
@Elegantly Wasted Why not just start as a first level Swashbuckler and then take Investigator after? Not trying to be rude, really want to hear your thoughts on this.

I think he's going for the trapfinding right out the gate, since the DM emphasized that the group really needs someone with that ability.

That would be correct! It would be a little less trouble to go Swashbuckler first, but it seems like they need some trapfinding and lockpicking, so I want to be able to provide that. Investigators, however, are very feat hungry, and I can't afford to be too dependent on multiple ability scores. Going with a Rapier is one of the easier ways to get Dex to damage, and I think Inspired Blade Swashbuckler will fit, both in adding Int to Panache, and for character concept. Despite his intelligence, Damien is a young man, and he thirsts for adventure. He probably doesn't have the martial discipline to be a straight-up fighter, but a flashy warrior that utilizes his intelligence and a piercing weapon to create distractions, avoid attacks and target vitals hits me as a pretty logical progression.
@ElegantlyWasted: Here are the concepts that I'm kicking around right now. I read your page for Damien and I've been thinking a bit about how they might interact.
Since there are a ton of applicants with rogues and trapfinding skills, I'm looking at filling the other opening with a support/healer or minor heal/combat character. If there's a particular concept that calls out to you @ElegantlyWasted (or to any of the currently-existing players), let me know and I'll flesh that one out.
Yvette LaBelle, half-elf witch (ley line guardian): This character is a support caster with some healing abilities. She would probably also be a casual follower of Desna, likely someone who has known Damien for many years. She is probably connected to Sandru, and has a rough awkwardness with Ameiko because Ameiko also had a half-elf in her family and it caused nothing but grief, so Yvette winds up reminding Ameiko of bad family times.
Yvette would also be a high Intelligence character with many skills and a good match for Damien's analytical mind. Note that as a ley line guardian she has no familiar and she casts using the sorcerer progression (but with Intelligence).
Constance Clarity, human hunter (divine hunter): Another Desna follower, who has spells and her animal companion because they were "chosen" in some way. Since hunters use a druid/ranger spell list, she has some support healing and also some buffs and fire magic. Would likely be a Wis/Dex character using ranged attacks.
Constance would be a bit more taciturn and withdrawn, a counterpoint to Damien in that she is more intuitive and prone to sudden flashes of dreamlike inspiration rather than Damien's razor-keen insight.
Constance might have some interaction with Shalelu as they are both people of the woods, though with slightly different focal points. Also possibly hooked to Sandru's caravans.
Leng, human monk (wanderer/weapon adept): Something of an enigma, Leng was raised as a monastic orphan. You know, like 75% of the monks out there. Leng is a skirmish character who would either use a temple sword or a kyuketsu-shogi (the latter for its reach, trip, and grappling features). Leng would have a peripheral relationship with Damien, perhaps seeing him as an erstwhile brother that he never had, pitting his serene wisdom against Damien's keen intellect, often with some monastic aphorism (usually humorous) in counterpoint to Damien's observations.
Leodegrance Tarrant, human (couple of ideas): This character would be Damien's brother, whether younger or older (your choice). Idea #1 is a paladin (possibly holy tactician), which would give us some healing support and more combat ability, but would carry with it the alignment issue, so I wouldn't want to do that if it would wreak havoc with the other players. Idea #2 is a bard (possibly songhealer). This character would be the less clever but more flamboyant sibling who is jovial, charming, and has a tendency to get into trouble. This one carries the possible problem of overlap with Ameiko, though.
I'm also able to gender flip any of these characters (turn Yvette into a male half-elf, give Damien a sister instead of a brother, etc.), or tweak them if someone suddenly goes "ooh! ooh! change this idea in this way and it would be perfect!"
Also, @DM Mathpro (or any of you players), if you want me to turn any of these into a full alias so that you can get a better handle on them, just say the word.

Are we allowed to take a drawback for another trait?
Actually yes you can take a drawback. However a word of warning: the gm will not allow your drawback to fade into the background! In other words, expect to see times when your drawback will affect the adventure. Not saying you shouldn't get a drawback just answering the question: plus it'll add flavor and fun to your character!
This is a character for another AP please see the druid Pink Eye. He will be support heal support combat after 4th lv especially and support caster. Background is included with younger sibling. Please pick the one that best fits as I do not too terribly mind. Thank you for your time and consideration.

If you could post a profile for Yvette that would be good. I'm curious to see how she looks.
