John is pleased to have a perceptive ally, he misses a lot of stuff!
Would the lovely monk be interested in a hit from a mage armor wand if the opportunity presents itself? (I can't guarantee the situations will allow or call for it, but John has used that tactic before with another monk to high effectiveness so he would be looking out for another chance to do so)
GM Hmm |
Khel, I dotted so that I can serve as backup when you need me to do so. Hey, everyone!

DM Khel |
Hi everyone - or at least those who are here so far!
As Hmm alluded to, I may have to call on a backup GM for a week or two of this game, as I'll be out of the country March 10-25, and not sure exactly how much posting time I'll have. Hmm has kindly agreed to fill in for me during that time as needed, so the game should keep moving forward smoothly.
I'll give the others a day or two to post here, then send some PM's to be sure they know the thread is set up.
Yugatta Sakittumi |
Good to know that the substitute person-trying-to-kill-us is of the highest quality. :-)

Yes, master. we like torture.
Oloch / lucklesshero's pregen |
I'll have Oloch's stats coded in shortly...(couldn't find a readily available build on herolab so I'll do it from scratch)
He's dotted and I'll be ready to go in a day or two

Oloch, are you running a pregen? If so I'm pretty sure they recently finished a project to create every pregen for these boards.

Thank you John...very helpful link

It makes me ecstatic to see the pregen project being used!

Kelh, how important is Player Init in your games? Would you want us to wait till those before us go before announcing our actions or just post it and resolve them in order?
DM Khel |
Thanks for asking - I'd much prefer that you just post and I'll resolve them. Generally the order isn't critical, so I'll resolve things as people post if it makes sense. But if there's something where the timing really matters, like a melee character waiting until a caster has cast a buff spell on the whole party, it's helpful to state that you're waiting for that thing to happen before you act.
In short, though - just post and we'll work it out.
GM Hmm |
DM, when are you leaving on your vacation again? March 10th? Just checking in with everyone.

Hmm - The work part of my trip is March 10-17, and I hope to be able to post in the morning and/or evening. My vacation is March 17-25, and I don’t know how reliable posting will be. So, if we could plan on you covering that latter portion for now, that would be great. If it turns out my ability to post shifts in either direction over the course of the trip, I’ll let you know. Thanks again for keeping things going in the basement of the Blakros museum!

Okay, I think I get the damage to weapon thing now. We check our weapon on the hardness table linked. So assuming I had a regular dagger, it would be a 'light blade' with Hardness 10 and hitpoints 2. I (or the GM) would roll 2d6 damage each time I connected with the enemy. If that 2d6 ended up being higher than my 10 hardness the weapon would take the difference.
Simpler put, you subtract your weapon's hardness from the 2d6 rolled and only worry if the remaining number is positive.
Oloch's weapon is +1, so he gains a bonus +2 to his hardness of 10 for a total of 12 so the 2d6 can't actually overcome it and do any damage.
My actual weapon is a mithral dagger, and Mithral has hardness of 15 so it also can't be overcome and damaged.
GM, does all that seem accurate?
DM Khel |
Simpler put, you subtract your weapon's hardness from the 2d6 rolled and only worry if the remaining number is positive.
Yes, that’s accurate, and this summary sentence makes it nice and clear. Thanks for summing it up! As you imply here, it would be helpful if you guys can just roll the damage to your weapon as you attack. If your weapon’s hardness can’t be overcome by 2d6, like the example of your dagger., then don’t worry about rolling it.

So I've definitely seen some issues with my gear from this current fight.
1) Get something that could do more than 5 damage regularly (ideally that can also penetrate DR/Bludgeoning since I don't have anything like that at the moment).
2) Get an automatic healing method that can't fail. The wand is awesome for out of combat stuff, but having a potion to use or hand to someone to get back into the fight would have been ideal.
GM Hmm |
Hey all, keeping an eye on this thread. I suspect that I will be coming in to help out tomorrow, so I am reading through right now.
Have a great vacation, Khel.
Hmm
John "the Antagonizer" Carlos |
Traveling this morning, should be able to post this afternoon.
GM Hmm |
I have a death in the family, and a memorial service to attend. Posts may not happen today.
Hmm
Yugatta Sakittumi |
Sorry to hear that, Hmm, and thanks for the update.
Test Subject #37 |
Sorry to hear that.
GM Hmm |
I’m okay. The memorial service was nice, and though the death was a surprise, Ralph was old and had started a very sudden decline. It was good that it happened fast rather than lingering.
Y’all are an awesome group, and I love you.
Hmm
GM Hmm |
So I am back! I’ll let the first two players who chime in determine our next direction!
DM Khel |
Hmm - sorry for your loss, though I understand well what you mean about the value of a rapid decline (and hopefully a painless one).
Thanks for keeping the game rolling along so smoothly and entertainingly - I just hope the group will have me back! I just had a glorious day at Machu Picchu, and it’s nice knowing the story hasn’t stalled for our intrepid Pathfinders while I’m goofing off.
GM Hmm |
Ah, thanks Khel! Machu Picchu?! The city of clouds? I am so unbeleivably jealous right now! And of course they’ll take you back. All I’ve done is throw corpses and gibbery aberrations at them!
GM Hmm |
So... By sometime tomorrow you should have your own beloved DM Khel returned to you! I wanted to let you know that it was my honor to serve as your interim back-up GM!
I should be able to see you to the end of the battle with Brainy, and then I'll hand the reins back to Khel. I hope that you all had as much fun playing with me as I did with all of you.
Hmm
Yugatta Sakittumi |
Thanks so much, GM Hmm!
DM Khel |
Thanks again for covering for me, Hmm, and for doing it in your own inimitable style! I’m about to get on the first of a series of flights, may be semi-conscious at best through much of tomorrow, so it would be great if you can wrap up the fight with Brainy and I’ll pick things up Sunday or Monday.
Test Subject #37 |
Welcome back Khel and thanks Hmm.
GM Hmm |
Take care, all! I return you to Khel! Khel, have a safe trip home!

Thx Hmm!

GM could u bot me super busy today should be able to post by Sat
Done, thanks for letting me know.
DM Khel |
Falom - you probably already know this, but I just wanted to point out the following:
Sniping: If you've already successfully used Stealth at least 10 feet from your target, you can make one ranged attack and then immediately use Stealth again. You take a –20 penalty on your Stealth check to maintain your obscured location.
Because your last stealth check was very high, I counted the sneak attack damage, but it's actually pretty tricky to snipe round after round and still do sneak attack damage. Your archetype lets you snipe from further away, but you still need to make those stealth checks with a penalty.
Test Subject #37 |
Snipers are hard. I will have to get more bonuses to stealth after this game. Thanks for the clarification.

We don’t have a healer, do we?
DM Khel |
We don’t have a healer, do we?
Not really, just Oloch and a wand or two.

GM I believe I got an AoO when the Zombie moved forward...but if not I use the next strike to obliterate it then I move 5' forward thx...
DM Khel |
GM I believe I got an AoO when the Zombie moved forward...but if not I use the next strike to obliterate it then I move 5' forward thx...
The zombie only took a 5' step, which doesn't provoke an AoO. It's also why it got a full attack.
note: Oloch could not, disengage with the zombie and take on the sorceress even if he wanted to if he doesn't kill it with the AoO. So this next strike would be at the zombie instead if it's not down.
Not sure I get this. He could have walked around the zombie (below it on the map), though he would have provoked an AoO from the zombie in moving by.
