Once everyone is healed up with the nasty bard’s wand, it is a pleasure to leave behind the stench of the flushing chamber. Following the tunnels, the Pathfinders come to a ‘T’ intersection. To the south is what appears to be an abandoned guardpost. A corner of the room with the remains of some game involving carved bones and a rat carcass has been hastily deserted, with bottles knocked over and spilled as the goblins guard fled. The guardpost seems to be guarding a tunnel that narrows enough to be impassable by anyone but Ekkie or Hakotep, and smells bad enough that neither of them wish to venture into it.
Turning north at the ‘T’ leads to a pair of rooms on either side of the hall, which seem from the smell of them to be empty kennels. Each is a square stone chamber that stinks of feces, urine, and unwashed animal fur. Gnawed bones, rotting chunks of meat, and filthy piles of rags litter the room.
Continuing along the tunnel, which twists and turns a bit, the party arrives at some sort of crude audience chamber. Two rows of pillars support the arched roof of this long hall. At the far end stands a makeshift throne constructed from the broken remains of a smashed statue and other cracked blocks of masonry. Standing before the throne is a large, fearsome-looking bugbear.
As the party steps into the doorway of the chamber, the bugbear stamps the haft of her horsechopper on the stone floor and calls out in a guttural voice, ”What do you want, intruders? Why have you come here?” As the bugbear speaks, everyone but Rokdor can see a goblin hiding behind the pillar to the north of the throne.

Oldmar Lucridious
|
Sorry, just getting home from work. :)
Oldmar advances into the chamber a short distance, his axe stowed. "You thieve. We come to reclaim." His words are plainly spoken, stated as simple fact. He does not shy from a fight, but will not provoke one unnecessarily.
| DM Khel |
The bugbear's eyes widen at Hakotep's claim of sovereignty over her sewer domain, and she shifts her attention to Oldmar. "You come to reclaim? Is there something in particular you seek to recover, stout dwarf? If we are to parley, we should know each other's names. I am Inoklar. What are you called?" She lowers her weapon to her side and gestures to Oldmar to approach, saying, "Come, we will discuss this."
Oldmar Lucridious
|
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 def not a trap, lol
"I am known as Oldmar, of the Lucridious Clan," the historian says, waiting for his party before advancing. Oldmar will walk right into the trap so long has his companions are also in the hall.
Oldmar continues on. "We seek to reclaim peace and prosperity. You have specific targets--us. Who gave them to you?"
| DM Khel |
Wait, there's a trap!? Where?
Inoklar waves Oldmar forward, saying, ”Ah, the Lucridius clan is it? Interesting. And yes, we all want prosperity, don’t we? Please, come and speak with me. I’ll thank your companions to wait there in the hall while we talk, though. A good parley is one on one, not a gang of you surrounding me, eh?”

Sobestian
Ekkie
Hakotep
Oldmar
Rokdor
As before, anyone can speak, initiative is just up in case of sticks and stones and such.

"Overlord? I have no overlord!" Inoklar replies. "I alone run the Nightsoil Marauders, and will one day run Magnimar! Now, come show me this 'destruction' you offer, dwarf!"
Oldmar Lucridious
|
Oldmar flashes a rare smile. "Oh? Who's that then?" He waves at the skulking goblin behind the throne. "Your muse?"
"You live on lies. You live on fear. You live on injustice. The light of the Dawnflower offers redemption, if only you would walk the path. Only judgment awaits those who shun the embrace of righteousness, whether by my hand or not. There can be peace if this war you have begun is ended. You can have prosperity, if this harassment and racketeering you oversee is finished. You can have life, if this gang is ended. Leave your evil ways and see the light."
Anybody else want to come in?
Rokdor Goblinbreaker
|
Rokdor strides into the room with a grunt, commenting in Dwarvish, "Let's get on with it; you might as well ask a Forgotten Beast not to eat your grandmother."
| DM Khel |
Where do you want to move, Rokdor? If you can't move your token on the map, one of us can do it for you if you describe your intended move.

Well, I don't want to start a combat action yet because the whole point of initiative is that Gaelwyn reacts the fastest once we're ready to start combat so Hakotep won't be able to react until after the baddies go. But Hakotep is ready to take them out as soon as we get moving....
| DM Khel |
I sent a text to Gaelwyn, I'm hoping he'll jump in soon. Long weekend approaching may slow things a tad anyway. And no worries, Rokdor (unless your comment was entirely sarcastic...)

Fair enough. The way I usually run it (in this kind of situation) is that whoever triggers combat effectively consumes the surprise round, then we jump into regular initiative. I'm happy to let Gaelwyn do the honors, though.
Oldmar drones on about healing and seeking the light and the blessing of the Dawnflower...
| DM Khel |
I like that approach, Oldmar. So who's going to start things off? First up gets a surprise round action!
Oldmar Lucridious
|
Sounds good! For RP reasons, Oldmar is not going to strike the first blow. He might unstrap his axe and move forward, though, but again he'll wait until people move out of the hallway (thanks Rokdor). GM, if you want to move everyone up to where Oldmar is now, the historian will use the surprise round to advance/draw and demand that the bugbear drop its weapon.
Gaelwyn

While always happy to engage in interesting conversation, Gaelwyn decides this is not the time and steps into the room before lobbing an alchemist fire at the bug bear.

Gaelwyn’s flask flies straight and true, sailing the length of the room and breaking on Inoklar’s armor, igniting the fearsome bugbear! She takes a furious step toward the party, then focuses her attention on putting out the flames all over her. Her efforts are fruitless, however, and she continues to burn.
Reflex, DC 15: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Gaelwyn, alchemist’s fire does 1d6 damage, no +1, so I'm only recording 4 damage to the bugbear.
From behind one of the pillars steps a goblin, previously unseen by even the most percipient Pathfinders in the party! He hurls a flask of fire towards the party, but it sails over the heads of Oldmar, Gaelwyn and Rokdor and smashes on the floor by the doorway!
Alchemist’s Fire, range: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 - 4 = 6

Gaelwyn
Inoklar (-4 hp, burning)

Gaelwyn will move Northeast to advance to cover behind one of the pillars and prepare to attack anything that comes into reach.

"Well, I suppose Sarenrae is not for you. Justice must be meted for your crimes." Oldmar unstraps his axe and advances. Path: five feet northeast, 25 feet east. Presumably triggering whatever's under that grey box. If he reaches the bugbear:
He swings to bring a swift end to the bugbear's suffering.
Waraxe @ Bugbear: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25 CRIT THREAT Confirm: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 and/or Crit Damage: 2d10 + 8 ⇒ (10, 10) + 8 = 28 <-- damn!
| DM Khel |
Hakotep begins intoning a spell while Gaelwyn takes cover and prepares to attack any foe who approaches. Ekkie moves into the room, then stops, eyes wide with fear as she sees Inoklar. Bolstered by his friends entering the chamber, Oldmar approaches the bugbear, axe held high! As he gets close, however, he steps on a false floor, where the flagstones have been replaced with a thin sheet of grey parchment. His foot breaks this material, unleashing a shower of thick, sticky resin that hardens as it hits him, gluing him in place!
Oldmar Reflex, DC 15: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Oldmar has been hit by a tanglefoot bag, is stuck to the floor and takes a -2 to attack rolls and -4 to Dex. You’ve still got a standard action, so you can make a DC 17 Str check or do 15 points of slashing damage to the goo to free yourself. Or you can do something else, but your attack doesn’t land, unfortunately, unless you can somehow not be caught in the trap.

Hakotep

Rokdor
Sobestian and Rokdor are up! Oldmar has a standard action still.

Rokdor yells a Dwarven battle cry and charges the nearest (non-Ekkie) goblin. Is the trap still active in the other squares? Dorf doesn't know either way, but if it is then she just activated it. And then booped a gobwin.
Boop (gobwin hate): 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 5 + 1 = 11

Oldmar - you want to do anything different with that standard action you have left?
| DM Khel |
Additional Fire Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Sobestian begins singing while Rokdor charges across the room, easily noticing and avoiding the false floor now that she knows it’s there. Her divided attention, however, causes her strike to miss! Ekkie continues to stand still, as if fixed in place or, perhaps, unsure where her loyalties lie at this moment.
The last of the flames on Inoklar flicker and die as she holds her horsechopper aloft and spins it in a frightful display of her prowess with the weapon. She calls out, ”You dare to attack me, in my stronghold? What joy I will take in killing you all!”
Intimidate: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19
Rokdor and Oldmar are shaken for 2 rounds, taking -2 to attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks.
Meanwhile, the goblin that Rokdor attempted to boop takes a step backward and returns the favor, but his swing is poorly aimed. And the goblin that has been trying so hard to hide behind a pillar now steps out, tossing a flask of fire at Oldmar, lighting him on fire once again!
Horsechopper: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12 Misses Rokdor

Aw man, the fire doesn't at least burn off the goo? Speaking of: did you roll for duration already?
Str check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 Oldmar tries to free himself again and gets nowhere. Looks like it's going to be like the last fight...
| DM Khel |
Nope, didn't roll duration, thanks for the reminder. And I hate to say it, but remember the -2 to your Str checks due to being shaken. Maybe Gaelwyn can cut you free?
How Long is The Dorf Stuck?: 2d4 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2 Oh, that's fortunate. You're free next round anyway.

Hakotep tries to put the gobbo to sleep.
DC 15 Will save or nappy time.
He stays back with Sobestian and starts another lullaby in case the first one doesn't work or in order to hit the big guy in a few seconds if the goblin does actually fall asleep.
| DM Khel |
Will save: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (19) - 1 = 18
The goblin standing by Inoklar slows for a moment, his eyes drooping and confusion evident on his face. He gives his head a wild shake, whacking it into the stone pillar by his side, and manages to stay awake, resisting Hakotep's spell!
Sobestian launches an arrow at Inoklar, but his aim is confused by the fact that he thinks the female bugbear is a 'fellow'. Oldmar struggles to free himself from the sticky mass he's trapped in. He's unsuccessful, but the stuff seems to be drying up and crumbling off him.
Gaelwyn and Rokdor are up!
| DM Khel |
Our meanie DM ignores me... *sniff sniff* :(
My cruelty takes many forms! Plus, I confusticated myself with your question about the charge bonus, taking it for this round's attack (edited post above). It still missed, by the way, but you have an action yet this round.

Rokdor grunts at the goblin's evasion, but decides the bigger (ha ha) threat is the massive bugbear. Stepping forward, she swings her hammer at it!

Rokdor steps forward, still trembling from Inoklar's fierce words. Her hammer swings in a flat arc, just missing the goblin's jaw!
Sorry, you're still shaken, so need to take a -2 to your attack roll...
Gaelwyn to finish the round!

Gaelwyn will move 20 feet up along the North wall of the room until he can see the blue goblin then stop and hurl a flask of alchemist's fire.

He then prepares to charge Inoklar looking him up and down. "You are the biggest, hairiest goblin I've ever seen. Are you a hob-goblin? I thought they all had blue noses, not big noses?"
| DM Khel |
Gaelwyn lights a goblin on fire! Oldmar continues burning, though the flames flicker out as the fuel is exhausted.
Additional Fire Damage to Oldmar: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Inoklar raises her horsechopper and shouts at Gaelwyn, ”I am a bugbear, fool!” She then points at little Ekkie and cries, ”You! Help fight off these invaders or die with them!”
Intimidate: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17
Ekkie has been intimidated by Inoklar. PC's can now try opposed Intimidate checks to bring her back on your side. Or fight her.
The burning goblin frantically slaps at the fire covering him, succeeding in putting it out, though he looks to be in pretty bad shape when he’s done. The other goblin steps back and slices into Rokdor!
