Speaking of critical hits, I have the Critical Hit Deck app on my phone so if anyone would like to use that, I'm going to keep it available as an option. Basically if you critical, just let me know in ooc text that you want a draw from the deck. Some of the cards only do regular damage instead of double (or double instead of triple depending on the weapon) though, so it might not always be advantagious.

Hm. Regarding my last combat post, I was making it as though both kukris were already drawn and Red was walking around with them, which would make my turn a full-attack.
Now that I re-read the last couple of posts since I last stated for sure that the kukris were drawn, I realise that it's not clear whether or not the kukris had in fact been sheathed since the last combat. Should I make it more clear next time what's been drawn and what hasn't been drawn to avoid this sort of confusion? (I realise the rules for TWF are pretty sticky. Sorry about that.)

DM Kacy |

I had figured it would make more sense for them to already be drawn, but I was thrown off by the flavor text of drawing the second one. In most cases I'm cool just assuming that if you used your weapons at some point, you still have them out unless you specifically say you're sheathing them. I wouldn't say it's really necessary to add anything most of the time unless you say something contradictory in the flavor text to what the mechanics are (which I'm fine with as long as it works mechanically and has the same result).
Speaking of TWF, are you planning to grab TWF feats Travigan? Those are some pretty heavy negatives you're getting right now. I guess the alternative is to just keep rolling 18s and 19s to hit all the time though!

Travigan Frost |

No, not planning to go that route at all. I figured I'd still have a pretty good chance to hit with my main attack and was gambling that a second swing would roll big and hit; taking out 2 spiders in one go.
I was stunned when the second roll was a 19, and was then immediately humbled when the AC proved be something >18 =P
If I had realized the AC was that high from the start, I doubt I'd have even attempted it. That's part of the fun of the game though. Sometimes you try something that's a total gamble. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. =)

Should I dismiss the Grease on my turn or keep it around? Keeping it around makes it harder for Gaedran to escape, but will make us take DC 10 Acrobatics checks to surround him. I'd imagine that probably wouldn't be too hard for Alastair with his +8, but Rivane might have a little more trouble with his -2 unless he's planning to focus on the Croc with Travigan or we leave J13 open for him.

Xavaros Dalanar |

Well I think our aim is to kill him. The Grease just adds a little extra difficultly to him escaping if he tries to make a run for it and forced him into melee this round since he couldn't 5-foot back and reload/shoot. I think we'll be fine since we have J13 open that Rivane can move into to avoid falling down and Alastair should be able to get in there fine with his high Acrobatics.

Minimum damage on all damage is 1 and the critical was basically 1d4-3 plus 1d4-3 with both dice ending up with a result of 1.
I could see how it could also be ruled that the damage would have just been 1 overall, but that ruling can make weird things happen like getting less damage with a critical hit than a normal hit if you say have 1d6-3 damage resulting in a roll of 6-3=3 with one die and 1-3=-2 with the second roll and add them together to get 1 damage total which is less than the 3 that would have resulted from just the single die rolled. The options are basically either make criticals better versus make criticals worse and I tend to favor the route that make them better since criticals are a special thing that doesn't happen often. Kind of an excessive explanation justifying 1 extra damage, but there you go :P

I'm not dead, was just on vacation that I forgot to tell you guys about (sorry). I actually wouldn't mind a DM tradeoff for a little bit though if you're up for it as things have gotten a little busier for me than when I started this. I'd still be wanting to play as Xavaros and we could switch back whenever you're ready. I can also help make maps :)

Xavaros Dalanar |

Sounds great! I've been using this page for stats of things updated to Pathfinder if that helps.

I'm still here and good to go.
I have to admit that I'm getting kinda bored of my PC though. I have another multiclassed version of her hanging around a RotRL game that's taken off on a different board, and having to switch to and fro between games is kinda messing me up. I did apply to this game with her though, so I guess I'm stuck for now. Unless she dies. :p

Xavaros Dalanar |

Are you more bored with the character herself or the build? If it's just the build, I'm sure some retooling could fix things pretty easily with zero impact on the game and if it's the character, we are at a pretty good dropping off point in the storyline if you did feel like subbing in something that fills a similar role. It's Alastair's call at this point, but I give my blessing to you doing either.
If you're looking in the direction of an entirely new character, someone affiliated with the city guard might be a good launching point at this juncture in the story, but I'm sure you could make anything work if it's given the go-ahead.

eatalotoftictacs |

I'd say character. I suppose bored isn't the right word... more like frustration that I have to play the same PC two very different ways in two concurrent games. (Especially since the other game consists mainly of rabidly enthusiastic role-players - the kind who have the bard compose in verse and who describe every battle action in beautiful and excruciating detail. Having to switch off the massive character development and history that takes place there for Red when I'm in this game is somewhat disorienting, because I'm OCD and like to keep my characters separate.)
If both the GMs are agreeable, I can swap out Red for the character I last used in a CoCT campaign. He's a skill-monkey half-elven burglar rogue who used to thieve for Lamm. But since Alastair's got the sneaky-stabby base covered, I can easily convert him to an Unbreakable rapier fighter if we're not looking to create a rogue flanking tag-team.
Regardless, I will stick to Red if that's simpler for everyone involved here. I don't want to hold up the game!
