As a long-time gamer, my rule has always been that a double 20 equals instant death. It's that one-in-a-million shot to drop anything! Nice going. And very few random number generators are truly random! My favorite online one is at www.random.org. It uses space noise...

Hate that rule, a pigeon can kill an elder wyrm 1 in 400 pecks can it? Thankfully this is PFS.

As if on cue, Rhanloi's missile strikes the woman, followed by a touché of Vesparo's. The combined assault proves to be too much for the vishkanya, who collapses onto the floor bleeding.
Cressyk impales Alejia righ-hand man, while the little halfling shows off her prowess in battle, decapitating the other thug with her scimitar.
Seeing his boss defeated, and facing insurmountable odds, the last thug surrenders.
The prisoner, once the dust has settled, stand up with a pained face, and speaks Hirako Gurukaza. as his name, followed by to whom do I own the pleasure?
That was a strong assault, though you had me worried for a while. Do you know who you just defeated? I understood she was one of the gang leader of Riddleport, hoping to thwart Tammerhawk to gain influence in the city. All that is over now, she is dead, so I reckon her peon's assault on the Cyphermages will stop here. As for me, you have my gratitude, and I will see your vigilance will not go unrewarded.
That was swift, another victory for the pathfinders. I'll start preparing chronicles again. Congratulations on making it through another adventure!

To keep the procedure in line with the last scenario, I'll roll for boons in the gameplay thread again:
Boon roll: 1d20 ⇒ 15
Boon roll: 1d20 ⇒ 3
Boon roll: 1d20 ⇒ 20
20! You get a boon of your choice. Tell me which one you want from the list below:
Boon 1:
Lingering Resonance: A recent encounter with an enemy spellcaster left your body strangely receptive to spell effects. At the beginning of a scenario, you may announce that you are using this boon. The next time that you fail a saving throw against any spell or spell-like ability from an enemy spellcaster, have your GM write the name of the spell below. Choose one of the following benefits, and cross the other off your Chronicle sheet.
• When you cast the listed spell, you may increase the DC of the saving throw by 2.
• When you roll a saving throw against the listed spell, you gain a +4 bonus on the save.
You may use this bonus once for free, after which you should check the box below; each additional use of the selected benefit costs 1 Prestige Point.
Boon 2:
Long Distance Support: You heard the Decemvirate’s call to arms as the Fifth Crusade began, but for whatever reason the society did not send you to the front lines immediately. You may nonetheless send extra supplies to aid your fellow Pathfinders. At the end of any scenario that does not take place in Mendev or the Worldwound, you may choose to spend 1 Prestige Point to send a cache of necessary supplies north to aid the war effort. On a line below, have your GM record where the scenario took place and initial the entry. Upon filling all five lines, you gain two benefits.
First, you gain a Mendevian Commendation for your tireless efforts to supply the crusade. A Mendevian Commendation grants you a cumulative +1 bonus on Charisma-based skill checks to influence Mendevian Crusaders (maximum +3).
Second, as a swift action while fighting a creature with the demon subtype or bearing an unholy symbol of a demon lord, you may grant all allies that you can see within 60 feet a +2 circumstance bonus on attack rolls, damage rolls, and saving throws against those creatures for one minute. When you use this second ability, cross it off your Chronicle sheet.
Boon 3:
Mendevian Weapon Training: Queen Galfrey of Mendev understands both that poorly equipped crusaders are of little use to the ongoing war against demonkind and that an inadequately trained crusader cannot make effective use of good equipment. As a result, those who dedicate themselves to the Fifth Crusade have access to training and equipment that might not otherwise be available. When you would be permitted a Day Job check, you may instead spend 4 Prestige Points to receive intensive training with a specific weapon or suit of armor. You receive a masterwork version of the weapon or armor, and you gain proficiency in that specific weapon or armor (but not others of its type). If you are already proficient with the selected armor or weapon, you instead gain a +2 bonus to CMD against disarm and sunder combat maneuvers targeting the chosen item.
Choose the weapon or armor from the following list: breastplate, glaive, heavy shield, or longsword.
Boon 4:
Moment of Glory: Whether it is by fate, fortune, or circumstance, you are able to tap into a hidden reserve of power at just the right moment to perform a truly extraordinary feat. By activating this boon as a free action, you become a mythic character (1st mythic tier) for 3 rounds. If you fall unconscious due to hit point loss during this time, you automatically stabilize without needing to attempt a Constitution check. In addition, once before this effect ends, you may use the surge mythic ability to increase any d20 roll you just made by rolling 1d6 and adding it to the result. Using the surge is an immediate action taken after the result of the original roll is revealed. This can change the outcome of the roll.
When you use this boon, cross it off your Chronicle sheet; however, anytime you successfully complete (earning the maximum possible number of Prestige Points) a scenario that using the “hard mode” option, you may have the GM sign this boon. You may use this boon one additional time for each such signature you receive.
Boon roll: 1d20 ⇒ 6
Boon roll: 1d20 ⇒ 1
Random roll: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Boon roll: 1d20 ⇒ 18

Vesparo sheathes his rapier and removes his mask extending a hand down to Hirako, "I am glad we were able to be of assistance, please excuse my earlier comments a bluff designed to keep her from slaying you only. Are there any other prisoners?"

Rhanloi will cast detect magic as he examines the vishkanya, for magic items, valuables, but especially for information! He also wants to learn a bit about her kind, and examines her body closely for racial identifiers.

Malena sighs in relief, thankful that the combat was over. Sensing her calm, Korvus flies into the cavern and lands on her shoulder.
"Some watchdog you are, silly bird," she says, lifting a few kernels to her familiar's beak.
Suddenly, her stomach drops and she peers toward the passage leading deeper into the cavern - dog. Vesparo had said something about guard dogs earlier.
"Perhaps we should hurry to ship," Malena says, doubling up her grip on her glaive. "Were there not dogs in cave, too?"
Rather not be a chew toy before our next adventure!

![]() |

Vesparo gives Malena a distressed look, "We cannot just leave the dogs, this is a cave they'll starve. We should either slay them or take them if they will allow us - it would be cruel to have them waste away no?"

![]() |

"But I wanted an amphibian Pathfinder! We have Captain Surrenders over here and Captain Hoppy, surely the dogs will be familiar with them and they can get them onboard. Someone will want a good guard dog in Riddleport I am sure."
Vesparo moves over and begins trying to befriend the dogs - from the other side of the gate.
"Are you good boys? I shall name you Drendle and Drang!"
Handle Animal: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21

Malena shrugs her shoulders and smirks at the thought of the frog-man taking up a wayfinder in their merry little club. She joins Vesparo at the gate, rummaging through her backpack as she strolls toward him.
"Here," she says, tossing two opened portions of trail rations through the slats. "Eat, comrades, and see we are friends."
Handle Animal - Aid Vesparo: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
The way I understood it, I can make an untrained Handle Animal check in this type of situation, just not in a training scenario, right?

Rhanloi grew up with sled dogs - they were vicious curs who always snapped at his small fingers when he tried to pet them. He had no qualms leaving the beasts in their cages...but he also knew humans were quite fond of their animals, so he chose to remain quiet.

DM Kludde |

I'm not ignoring you, it's just that the minions put me in a place again where connectivity involves something with a round drum and shouting words over a pit of rattlesnakes. Not very efficient.
Hirako again thanks the adventurers for freeing him. The other crew, she killed them or let them be ripped apart by the dogs. Vicious curs, these. Rabid too. As far as I know, I'm the sole survivor
As Malena and Vesparo discuss handling the dog, they quickly realise that these creature carry rabies, and would be extremely dangerous to handle.
Of course, if you still want to handle the dogs, feel free to roll initiative
Rhanloi finds several of the rumours confirmed upon studying the vishkanya. Scaly skin, forked tongue, and her blood does indeed seem poisonous.

"Oh, poor lads. But I do not wish to risk our lives killing them it is not worth it. I will chalk some warnings about them in case anyone comes by," Vesparo says sadly.
"Maybe eating that poisonous thing will kill them, we can hope that is better than starving."
