At the dinner...

Varyan stands up towards the end of the meal and lifts his glass before saying I'd like to propose a toast...to new friends...to family...and most especially to my granddaughter Rain and her new fiance Variel. They are now officially betrothed and will be wed in three months time once my wife and I can arrange things properly! Congratulations Rain and Variel!

"Hear, hear," Horatio says standing up as well, then quaffs his drink quickly.

Amen-set follows his cue, and then they look at the others, ready to move on.

What exactly can be purchased there, and how much will it cost and so on? I was kind of hoping that we could simply use the crafting supplies to have armor upgraded before reaching the place. Starting off in the most ruthless hive of scum and villainy this side of Golarion on Level 7 makes me think that I'll want more than a +1 Chain Shirt as my defense.

I'm willing to wait before entering town to get decent armor; or at least something affordable; but those details are kind of up to you :)

Little Oppara is a small town but with Amen-set's help you can boost it's abilities up.

That said, with Amen's help, there is a 75% chance to find any item of 4000gp or less. There will also be an assortment of other magical items for sale but these will be random. You can also buy crafting supplies of magical or mundane type there as well.

Amen-set’s eyes flick around the table and she considers what she’s seen and heard so far.

First her eyes travel to the three Elves and the inevitable wedding bands for the marriage – or the “Elven Rings”, as it were.

Then she considers the Pirate King with his black and twisted Wraith-Like qualities, like some kind of Dark Lord…

Finally she thinks about Horatio’s interest in Halflings.

Elven rings, Wraiths and Halflings?

She leans back and watches Horatio smoking his pipe and then her eyes move to the others and lets out a sigh of contentment in as she regards the others in her Fellowship.

By the stars but it’s good to be home…

Amen-set will try a Diplomacy Check to boost the community from a "Small Town" to a "Large Town" (DC 20) or a "Small City" (DC 30). If she doesn't get 30 (but close), I'm hoping that Dhaavan can try to "Aid" her, if possible.

Diplomacy Check to Boost Settlement Size

EDIT: It seems she was successful at boosting the Settlement size to a "Small City". That being the case; anyone have anything that they'd like to buy in a Small City? If not, Horatio or Amen-set will try to make a purchase.

GM: I'm assuming that this might also include crafting supplies, too?

That's some sweet gear. BTW, I'm going to claim the Slippers of Spider Climbing on the loot list if nobody else has, cause climb checks are for chumps . . . or people with a strength score. I already marked that on my sheet

We also need enough Components. Variel's got 1500 each for Flynn and Jiro's armor, and 500 for his. Dhaavan's got 3k for Jiro's AoNA, and 2k one for Flynn and Amen-Set's AoNAs. That's 8.5k, leaving us 500gp of components left, so we should pick some up.

Looks like there's about 78k in gear, if I'm reading that right, so we can afford a lot. I'll look into the craft skill to make stuff for the ship for next level too.

We need all 10 plunder, so no need to trade that, but Dhaavan will totally tell some tales for infamy which I'll toss up tomorrow.

Rain lifted her mug of wine, smiled and inclined her head as her grandfather announced her betrothal to Variel.

"Thank you", she replied to the well-wishers around the table.

Later, as they sailed toward Little Oppara, her grandfather beside her at the sterncastle, she asked him quietly, "Grandfather, do you mean to find ship to Tempest Cay once we have docked at Port Peril, or do you mean to stay and watch the trials set forth by the Hurricane King?"

Thanks! Meantime, I have a few quick questions -

1. I've read the description for "Flaming" weapons. I'm assuming that in the case of the revolver that it effects just the ammunition after being fired, not the firearm itself?

2. If you fire a flaming bullet underwater, does it lose its Flaming property or (as the Flame is magical) does it remain in effect until after it strikes the creature?

Varyan looks at Rain and says I need to get back to my crews sea sprite. I'd love to stay but you all should be fine.

Flynn, it affects the ammunition and yes it will work underwater.

Rain looked at her grandfather and nodded her head in understanding.

"Thank you for journeying to the Rock. I am certain Variel is grateful, too. Pass on my love to Grandmother and we shall see you in three months time, if our paths do not cross again before then." She moved to embrace her grandfather -- and she held him a little longer before letting go.

She smiled and bid him farewell, "Fair winds, Grandfather."

Then, a little subdued, made her way to town, with Neko beside her.

Heading to bed. Good night from this side.

I thought you were upgrading the +1 Chain Shirt Horatio had to a +2? Or was that Dhaavan? Currently I have the +1 Chain Shirt I'm wearing which I was looking for an upgrade; or was there a second one?

Adular notices the Captain recruiting, something he was thinking of doing as well. He decides to lend a hand, or in this case his mouth....

Looking at the small group of men and women that already seem half interested, he speaks up, where they and others near by might hear clear and plain, "My name's Adular Bluth, servant of Besmara and Bos'un of the Dread Lady. Now my father's Jacobus "Black Jack" Bluuth, aye, the same man who took the amulet of the silver swan off the neck of the sorceress Aithopia and lived to tell the tale. Yet it is not my father who I've come to boast about. I'm a young man now seeking to make his own fortunes, my own legends!"

He gestures to the Captain, "And thanks to Captain Variel Nightstorm and his doughty crew, I find myself on paths strange and glorious! I came to his ship not by sea but by sky and after that it got amazing!" He winks, "I've seen treasures what could buy an island only to find help a man win an island! I've faced abominations so dark I feared I'd never know light again, only to find the glitter of their gold once they were slain before us lit up even the murk of the deep! I've seen our pilot put our teeth into the storm's eye, and it were the storm what blinked! I've companions that have vanished before me very eyes, some with magic... some without, only to have them reappear again with prize in hand! I've heard tales from dead men returned to life, and sent foes to the Boneyard to deliver a message. Gold and Glory, lads! I've seen a king extend his hand, I've breathed in the blood of friend and foe alike with the latter looking the worse for it by the time we were done, ye mark me! Besmara's blessing is on this captain, this crew, and this ship! One thing for sure, we'll neer be bored long!"

He gestures off in the distance "Yonder, somewhere is nice green lands, flat, and covered in not so sweet smelling fertilizer. If a life o Legend is naught for you, if your idea of a treasure is a plate of turnips and greens, and your calling is to be yoked like the beasts of burdens you live with....why, I highly suggest farming! Those lands wait, so far inland as to have folks baffled at the sight of an oar and asking 'what be that?' With nary a clue! But if the brine is in your blood, if the blue calls you, and if ye crave adventure and a chance at fame and fortune, then stiffen your spines, come forward, and ask the Captain here if ye can join his crew! We take the best, the boldest, and those who will not settle for the mundane! Cowards, backstabbers, and farmhands need not apply!"

Island of Empty Eyes Map Current Map

Very nice Adular! You guys manage to pick up 8 additional crew of similar disposition to your other generic crew.

Moving along.

Once all the purchases are through and your new crew is settled in, you shove off heading toward Port Peril. Rain is able to shave enough time off that you get there as if you never stopped in Little Oppara. The trip is uneventful with the exception of an amusing incident where Fishguts thought he hooked a marlin that turned out to be a shark which gave him quite a fright when he hauled it in. It seems like almost no time at all before Rain begins to pull the ship into a free dock slip.

Port Peril Background info:
South of Jeopardy Bay, Port Peril sits on the mainland outside the frenzied grasp of the Eye of Abendego and west of the mountainous Terwa Uplands. The rocky escarpments and bluffs cup a deep harbor capable of handling heavily laden merchants’ barques and galleys. Convenient access to the jungles of the Terwa Uplands and the Slithering Coast means prospecting teams can easily move inland in search of precious lumber, spices, and exotic fauna for trade in distant ports. Neutral merchants berth here before making the treacherous journey north, but the port’s militia forces ships bearing the f lags of Inner Sea nations away. Merchants looking to turn a fast profit have their pick of commandeered goods in the markets of Port Peril, though the wise ones do well to check the provenance before
attempting to sell them in northern ports.

As you pull in Varyan says to you all Alright now I'm gonna be off but you all be on yer guard here. Get Kerdak's attention as quick as you can. What I'd do is send a messenger with a nice fat bribe to get an audience. With that he hugs Rain, says goodbye and see you in three months and heads off, disappearing into the crowd, firmly confident that with Rain there you all can take care of yourselves.

He mentions the bribe should be about 4 points of plunder

------------------------------------------------------------

Game is to you all. Your crew is eager to get off and go explore the city with their pay.

Crew, this is not going to be easy on you but even though we have been invited to Port Peril that does not mean we are welcomed there. As such the first night we are not going ashore. There is not going to be any leave until we know what we are getting ourselves into. You know us and have followed us this far. Trust in us that we will not leave you on the ship long. Coming in to the harbor Variel hears the suggestion put forth by Varyan. It sounded like a good idea and Varyan would have some knowledge of this. Turning to Rain as she asked him his opinion, I do not have any better suggestion myself. I was thinking that the officers go ashore to obtain information as to what others have done before us. However upon your grandfather's suggestion that seems like a solid starting point. The question is, who do we send and how many? we should send more than 1 in the envoy but less than 5 I would think. Enough to have protection but not enough to garner too much suspicion. After the last incident I think everyone would feel strongly that I remain here. That is fine with me. Perhaps Dhavan, Jiro and Horatio go? Unless you feel that you or Adular should go as well.

Looking for the 3 that he mentioned he sees if they are willing to present the bribe to the hurricane king. You 3 have skills in diplomacy, stealth, and tactics to handle most any situation. Does this sound agreeable to you?

"I'll go," he says, then looks to the rest of the lads and then motions Variel aside and speaks quietly to him out of the earshot of the general crew.

"We're making a name for ourselves but we're also getting enemies."

"We just picked up eight new lads at the last port, less than a day from this place."

"If we split up I'd recommend that those aboard watch those that aren't fully tested in case they try anything," he says.

"Maybe I'm being paranoid but it doesn't hurt to keep an eye open until we know their quality," he says with a shrug.

"You got any special message for this Hurricane King person?" he asks Variel - curious to know if there's a written letter or a verbal message that he wants to be delivered specifically.

As he waits he grabs his gear. Then he calls Amen-set over and speaks to her quietly; she nods and heads below and he looks toward the others.

Dhaaavn also says a few words to mollify the crew. Those of you that were with us at the start, you remember our old captain, and what he was capable of. It's likely just the night, but we'll be wanting to make sure we can get our business done before we all roll through port. Once we make sure nobody's going to be harassed or put in danger for what mischief we've been up to, we'll take some much wanted shore-leave in a real port-city alright mates?

Not one to shy away from an adversary -- if the Hurricane King could be called such -- Rain, however, saw the wisdom of a small envoy and three sounded a fair number and the three chosen by Variel had skill and cunning enough between them.

"Sending three sounds less adversarial then sending five of us to the King. I am fine with Jiro, Flynn and Dhaavan undertaking the offer. If anything were to go wrong, Dhaavan could send Jack back the ship and warn us and we will move swiftly to their side."

Rain peered at the sorcerer and asked him, "Will you be fine with sending Jack with word if the parlay goes awry?" Clarification: Did Jack return after the resurrection? I wasn't sure ...

Looking to Variel for further order, Rain asked, "What would you have Adular and I do while we wait for their return?"

Sorry for any confusion, Jiro, that was what I was using to propel my own rp. I know Variel said something before that about obtaining information ... but then he said he would just follow Varyan's suggestion re the bribe. Shrugs. Variel will clarify once he's back on the board.

To Dhaavan:

Horaito looks at Dhaavan and nods.

"Aye," he says with a brisk nod.

As he follows you off the ship he has changed his manner and style of behaving. No longer acting with the casual attitude of a man at sea, or even the more relaxed behavior of a man in town enjoying the sites; he instead acts like a man who is dedicated to observation and attention.

In short; he's acting the part of a formal 'escort' to the First Officer en route to greet a person of importance, with the hope that this attitude enhances Dhaavan's gravitas somewhat in the new community.

As he notes Dhaavan's success with the rustling up some help, nevertheless, he keeps his eyes open.

Let me know whenever you set off and what you are doing. Remember, RP is awesome and required but I need clear ooc instructions too.

GM:

For now Horatio has Piper and Amen-set in Horatio’s “Cabin” with the door locked. He’s not sure of the new guys that are recruited, yet, and he doesn’t want to take chances with them roaming the ship with half the officers gone. Doesn’t think they’ll do anything untoward, but he’d rather not have his things being pilfered.

Meanwhile, he’s going to continue to follow Dhaavan’s lead at this point. Technically the “First Officer” should have the floor in a formal meeting with a dignitary or official; and having the First Officer being protected by “bodyguards” just makes Dhaavan look more impressive. So he’s doing his best to play the part of a quiet, unassuming man with a beard and an eye-patch, who’s generally courteous and polite when spoken to, but somehow you got the sense that underneath he may not be someone you want to mess with. Speaking of which – here’s a good pic of that here - (again, I’m hoping acting this way should help Dhaavan’s “image” with whoever we’re meeting).

As he walks he does intend to keep his ears open, and his eyes, for any things of note in the town.

Anyhow, if you have any checks you need me to make, please let me know and I’ll toss them up.

Response:

Horatio buckles his newly acquired pistol to his hip and nods to Dhaavan as they head down the gangway into the street proper.

He thinks back of the times that they had made port before; and the times before that in Sargava.

Before they advance, he speaks softly to them both.

”You recall when we had been in that town a while back? When those ninja found and followed us?” he says as he glances around.

”We beat them then, and so maybe they’re not going to keep coming, but maybe they will. But seeing as how we’re expected in this town I’d say it’s pretty likely that our flag has been known and marked and that I’d bet that someone already passed the tip that we’re here along to interested parties.”

He looks at the docks and the buildings.

”Is there a harbor master here, or something like that?” he asks the others.

Seijiro sets out with Dhaavan and FLynn, wearing a loosefitting jacket over his black suit, so it looks like ordinary black pants and shirt with a jacket worn over them. He is in a human form, but not his usual one, a bit leery of being in Port Peril again since his last visit there ended so badly. He looks slightly older and taller than usual, with short black hair including a beard and mustache, and grey eyes, not his usual red-haired, golden eyed youth. Tomo, who cannot shape shift like his master, looks like Tomo, of course.

think something like Tony Stark for the look

He keeps a sharp eye out for any kind of trouble, including folks paying more attention to the small group than they warrant. Or conversely, folks seeming to be pointedly NOT paying attention to them... anything out of the ordinary, that is.

We didn't discuss it in advance, but I assume, the plunder, whatever form it takes, is in the haversack for safekeeping, but if not, we should know who is carrying what and where/how.

I vote that the plunder be stored in the extra-dimensional space that we now have in the hold for storage for such things.

There's no reason for one person be carrying plunder around; it's too easy a target to be robbed and in any case, a Handy Haversack's isn't infinite in the space it can hold.

Horatio, I think you need to bring the bribe with you is what Jiro is getting at.

Variel loks at Rain as she asks what they were to do. While he is thinking of an appropriate course of action Adular pipes up about visiting a temple. That sounds like a suggestion if you want to go with him to ensure mutual safety. I will remain here though and keep watch on the ship and the crew.

Ah! Gotcha. Well, in that case, I'm game with whoever wants to carry it, but I'd vote for Seijiro, though. He can magically teleport to random places. If stuff goes down and things look bad, he can teleport away from thugs fast with the loot. I'm hoping it doesn't come to that, but if it does, I think he's the best qualified to keep the loot safe from random pickpockets or something like that.

Ok so the Captain rules from fort hazard on the island of lucrehold. You need to find an emmissary or one of his cronies to get the bribe to him. You cannot just go to the island without an invitation unless you want to get blown out of the water.
