Borrum Orcbane |

No AoO's from Borrum, he was in a Total Defense stance, so he did not threaten. I had thought the bugbear may have that ray again, so increased my touch AC up to 16, but he still hit me.
Perception (Spot) vs Dragon: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
Edit: LOL
Seeing himself being surrounded, and feeling the effects of the bugbear's ray, Borrum swings his axe at a hobgoblin (W6).
Waraxe, PA0: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
Damage, Waraxe, Inspired: 2d8 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 5) + 6 + 1 = 17
Waraxe, PA0, Hasted: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
Damage, Waraxe, Inspired: 2d8 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (4, 3) + 6 + 1 = 14
Then he flys backwards 5 feet to avoid the flanks. 5 ft step back to J23:K24
@GM Greg: Question for you... what did the hobgoblins do with thier bows? I am assuming they dropped them someplace, then drew longswords as the moved forward and finally swung at Borrum. If that is the case, then Borrum will yell out the following.
Seeing thier longbows on the ground, Borrum smiles and yells out to his companions. "It work'd, day left der bows. Quickly use your magi hands an' throw dem ov'r da bridge."
I don't know if Rufa or Reill have that spell available, but I figure the hobgoblins don't know either and it may make them waste the effort to gather up thier bows. I can be tricky too.

Swirls mist looks at the bugbear in irritation. "Catches Crows, New Target"
i'm assuming that 100ft of movement from the ground where i was 3 rounds ago will at the very least get me near the top if no at the top of the watch tower if the wooden walkway on the outside still exists.

Swirls Mist |

Fairly sure its on Galdamor. I put it on everyone that wanted it with Me first and Borrum last.
So are you still stating that the towers don't have stairs? because the piece Borrum quoted on the previous page of you saying that they did earlier leads me to believe that they did. If this is the case then I'm as square 31K, of the towers floor plan, Catches crows moved to the other side of the tower and is occupying squares 31M,31L,30M,30L.
If the towers still don't have stairs then this is all moot as I would have had to do something different for the last few rounds. I can't stay within 30feet of my companion when he is in a tower that is 40ft to the first viable platform.
Sorry for the confusion on the attacks I will be sure to label them from now on.
I stood still and full attacked from the towers side with my produce flame the first 2 attacks are mine.
Catches crows went to the other side and on seeing me attacking the bugbear he did the same.

Rufa Damnatio |

from the looks of it, I should be able to web the dragon now, plus The bugbear. If that's correct that's what I would like to do

Borrum Orcbane |

Impressive.. 3 rounds of combat before the hobgoblins, coming from the tents, decided the type of threat we present and then decided to draw weapons. This seems like a detail we should have been told about.
Out come 5 hobgoblins and a bugbear, one hobgoblin gives orders as the other 4 hobgoblins point at the various opponents. 'Sir, that one is flying. Sir, those are on the ground over there. Sir, you realize we don't have claws or tusks. Sir, should we ready our bows or our longswords? Hush you mangy dogs, I am trying to decide, so leave your weapons alone as I may want to parley with them.'

Swirls Mist |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Eh, it just means that the Bugbear is actually a WH40k Commissar in disguise as the hobgoblins appear to be exhibiting the tactics and skills of guardsmen. I can only imagine if given such an option that the bugbear would command a tank to move closer so he could hit his foes with his sword.

DM Greg |

Well the Hobgoblins are on standard order to protect the bridge and the bugbear. They are highly trained veterans with many years of constant wars. 1st round they respond to the alert gathering around the North point of the bridge. No seeing any enemy in front of them they decide not to draws any weapons for the moment. Round 2: the hobgolins move and not seeing any long distance target that they can reliably hit (they were seeing only Galdamor and Borrum engage in hand to hand combat. Considering they do not have precise shot firing into melee isn't an option. They know that the bugbear will cast a long distance attack spell and that he will be rapidly engaged into melee combat. Round 3 All the hobgoblin stand ready to defend their caster from you. Round 4 Since they now have a target close to them they draw their melee weapon and engage. They do exhibit a level you preparation / tactics that you would expects from a military Veteran squad. They are better at Hand to hand combat than distance and rely on the caster to do his Lightning bolt for range and he can't really use it when there is plenty of Allies in melee combat with his target.

Swirls Mist |

from the looks of it, I should be able to web the dragon now, plus The bugbear. If that's correct that's what I would like to do
are the two of them not in range for a 20ft burst to hit both? Or were you waiting for her to declare movement or something?

Rufa Damnatio |

Apologies, I thought I had declared. Give me a moment and I'll be more specific.

Rufa Damnatio |

Standard to cast web at the intersection of H/I, 13/14. Height wise probably about 15' up, which should maximize the area between the two towers as being webbed. G35 for movement.

DM Greg |

Depending on their feats or Age for dragons dragons (and some other flying creatures can have on top of Claw/Claw/bite, Wing/wing/tail. This one is big enough to have a Bite/2XClaws/2XWings attacks naturaly (on top of his other combats/ fly / feats. You can go check on SRD under True Dragons: combat. (same like big cats can Rake given certain conditions etc...) When standing on ground the dragon can stand on its two back legs and alose add his wings / tail (if old enough as per the Table given under Combat: True Dragons etc... (There is even Tail mace or Wings spurs equipment that can increase the base damage (Draconomicon)

Borrum Orcbane |

A medium sized dragon gets 1 bite, 2 Claws and 2 Wings for it's attacks.
Hover states: If a creature begins its turn hovering, it can hover in place for the turn and take a full-round action. A hovering creature cannot make wing attacks, but it can attack with all other limbs and appendages it could use in a full attack. The creature can instead use a breath weapon or cast a spell instead of making physical attacks, if it could normally do so.
That does not mean the creature get any additional attacks it did not already have. i.e. no rear feet/claw attacks because it is flying.
No wing attacks during it's full-round attack. so we are down to 1 Bite, 2 Claws.
Based on what has occured and actions we have seen it use, I think I can safely say the dragon has Flyby Attack, Hover. That should leave about 2 feats I have not been able to identify.
I don't know of any feat that allows a creature to swap wing attacks for claw attacks or that doubles the number of claw attacks for a creature. Rapid Strike only gives you 1 extra attack per pair of natural attacks, and causes a -5 penalty to the attack. As all the attacks were at the same bonus, I don't think this is the feat it has as it made four claw attacks. And you can't double up the feat for the same natural attack. Nor do I beleive the dragon has Improved Rapid Strike, as it would need a +15 base attack and the fourth claw attack would be at a -10 penalty.

Galdamor Graak |

Seeing the big armor and shield the soldier had, Galdamor change his tactics and stop using power attack.
Claw with haste and Inspire Courage: 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 6 + 1 + 1 = 281d4 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 1 = 8
Claw with haste and Inspire Courage: 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 6 + 1 + 1 = 111d4 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 1 = 7
Confirm Critical: 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 6 + 1 + 1 = 121d4 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 1 = 6
if the W5 fall on the first attack and will Galdamor will take a 5ft. step to attack W8

Swirls Mist |

Unsure of his skill to interfere with the aerial battle taking place Swirls mist focuses his attentions on the still living caster.
Full round at the bugbear
Prod flame: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 271d6 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Prod flame: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 291d6 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Crit confirm: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 161d6 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
wow, those are some great rolls. Wish I'd gambled on the dragon, thats likely overkill on the already pretty toasty Bugbear.
With the last throw the cloak of flames his hands had been in sputter to a stop and go cold.
Cursing Swirls mist looks to his left side spotting the arrow head lodged there, with a grunt of irritation Swirls mist moves to the side of the tower 5ft step for a better cover from the tower.
The creeping effects of swirls mist curse continues (R2) creeping cold: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 2) = 3
So the dragon takes 1 whole damage, really creeping cold? great when I don't need em and nothing but flubs on rolls i need to go well. *shakes fist at dice generator*

Rufa Damnatio |

Rufa steps back from the hobgoblins and unleashes forth another blast of flame on the edge of the bridge.
5' step south. Fire Burst at 25/26 I/J. Should only hit the two hobs.
Fire Burst: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 3) = 4

Rufa Damnatio |

When I get home I'll go the thread and verify my HP. I should have a hit from the dragon too, but I should still be conscious from them both. Not sure why I didn't update before.
