Was I able to tell in the last round if the enlarged KT's have more reach and if they will be able to hit me in the action below?

I will get my torch back up off the ground and take a 5' step to the west and throw it into the crowd, trying for the open area by the 3rd one left alive.

Ok change of plans then, you didn't answer if I can dismiss the wand Grease or not?


You can look it up, too. Grease is a dismissable spell identified by the parethetical "D" following the duration.

Dismissing a spell is a standard action that doesn't provoke.

I wasn't sure if wands were just spells, or if there were different rules for wands vs spells. I knew Grease could be dismissed, I just didn't know if I could from the wand.

We're gonna need a bigger boat Round 6

Initiative: Sam, Nowzai, Dalamus, Magma, Soldiers, Nemoris, Epik

Sam steps in to the lead kuo-toa, swinging and electrically charged scimitar. The force of his blow takes the creature's head clean off and leaves a smoking crater where it's neck used to be.

Dalamus fires an arrow into the one behind the headless kuo-toa, before the first has even hit the ground. As it staggers back,the earth elemental grabs it, breaking it's leg and pulling it over the ledge. The creature falls soundlessly into the darkness.

The indomitable alien creatures, clearly outmatched, show no sign of quitting and they surge forward, leaping over their fallen comrades. In quick succession, however, they are taken down. Magma, patiently waiting, annihilates one caving in it's chest with his longhammer. Nemoris feathers the second easily with a tight cluster of arrows in its heart.

The final one, picking it's way through the bodies of its comrades slips on the grease and falls to the ground sliding over the ledge. It catches itself by one hand and begins to pull itself up, until Epik walks up and stabs it in the hand and kicks it in the face, causing it to chase it's comrade into the chasm.

He turns as he cleans and sheathes his blade, "Shall we rest now?

Loot: Each of the soldiers carries a masterwork hand crossbow and 2 masterwork shortspears. The Spearmaster has a magic +1 returning shortspear

Once we get somewhere to rest Sam will approach Nowzai, clearly uncomfortable but you get the feeling he is trying to be friendly "Nowzai, if you are interested and are willing to extend some trust, we could compare our collective spell knowledge to see if we could share some spells that the other doesn't have, as well as try and plan some synergies with our spells for the next day."

Epik cleans the gore off of his sword and hides the carcasses.

"Well fought everyone. We're lucky we survived the fight in the temple. I think we need to review our tactics. I acknowledge that Dalamus and I should have not ventured off without the group. But, I was very disappointed that the rest of you did not come to our aid, and most of you did very little to assist our retreat once the devil was released. In the future we need to act more like a cohesive fighting team. Everyone needs to be all in."

Betwee Nowzai and myself, is there any way to know how long that devil can stay on the plane? I know most summons are not a forever thing. Any way to know if there is a limit on if/when the devil can come back?

There is nothing that you saw that would give you any indication of how, why, what summoned or called the devil. You are welcome to hazard any guesses you want, but Nowzai would know that generally summons are short lived while callings last until the agreed upon task is complete

Sam nods at Nowzai's words, "Yes, staying together will be paramount to us staying alive long enough to complete this quest."

"I am not sure as to how long that devil can stay on our plane or how often they can call on her, there will be limits, I am just not sure what they will be, if we can rest for 8 hours and move out quickly, I think that we will have time to move through the temple without her being present, but I can not say for certain that is true. I do not know what unholy rites have been completed, so her time on this plane or how often they can call on her is unknown."

Sam glances at Epik clearly ready to say something and then bites his tongue and moves to the rear of the cave to rest

"I can take first or last watch, I just need to rest and meditate to recover my spells"

Mord'ael:
Well, that went as poorly as it could have, I am amazed that we all made it out of there alive. Any thoughts on spells for the up coming fight? What are your thoughts on the Erinyes? Will she be back as soon as we return or do you think we have a window of time before she returns?

"They were calling that thing before we entered their chamber....before they were aware of our presence...I think they may have called that beast for another purpose all together. Maybe that beast is here to stay?

The rest is good, but we are also very low in healing options. I know that if someone needs something from me, I will not be able to help them out. I can stabilize them, but that will be about it.

I don't need straight rest, so I will take a middle watch.

Sam'ael nods at Dalamus "Yes they were summoning the devil before we entered the room, but if you recall, when we killed the boat keeper, he croaked and alerted the city of our presence, and we met resistance on the beach before we enter the city, so I think that they were alerted to us and began the summons to defend themselves"

Sam'ael continues thoughtfully, "In most summons, there is a finite amount of time that the creature can stay on a plane that is not its own, and with the statue appearing to be the focal point, it would suggest to me that it is set up as a defense not a permanent summons, I could be wrong though. I also think with her ability to teleport, if she was indeed here for good, she would have followed us and destroyed us in our weakened state. Though, perhaps she is limited to how far she can move away from her summon area. Sam looks to Nowzai, "Anything I am missing Nowzai?"

"That is valid, I didn't even think about the fact that we could be walking into even more devils..." You can see Sam stop and think about it and then, with a slow smile he says, "I knew joining you would bring me closer to my lives work, come let us rest and then begin fresh tomorrow."

Nowzai, I am looking at memorizing several shocking grasps, a couple or frigid touches, and Brow Gasher for debuffs and fly and haste. I don't have many AoE or status spells yet, most of mine are single target damage with a secondary effect. Brow Gasher and Frigid Touch will both be good against the devil I think. I could cast a Pyrotechnics on one of your fire elementals which would be a great AoE but it will hurt your summon so not sure if it's worth it. Thoughts?

The next morning Epik helps prepare for departure back to the Temple,"What's the plan of attack? Clearly we'll have to use the boat again to approach. I would like to recon around the temple to see if there is an alternate entrance. Perhaps we can climb up to the windows that the archers were firing from and slip in that way.

"Epik, that is a good idea, but I am not sure all of us could make that climb. Perhaps a few of us that can, should do so, and try to find a good vantage point for support on entry. The other option is, we could drop a rope and hope you heavily armored guys can climb that."

"If we could explore that first room where those prisoners are located if it doesn't feel as if there is another summon in progress we could maybe find a way to get the higher ground and force them to come to us and make the fight be on our terms."

"I guess I am just confused as to where you are thinking we should climb at? I thought there was just the one stairway to enter the city and everything we ran into was inside the city after we entered the main stair way, I didn't think we saw any other way to get inside, but we could change up what we do once we are inside to try and gain the upper levels."

I could be wrong but I didn't think there is another way in to the city without going through those main doors, unless we want to row up and down in the boat looking for another way in, but I think being on the water any longer then we have to be is a bad idea

"When we landed on the beach, there were archers in the eyes of the giant frogs, that flanked the stairs. They were able to take up those locations from some internal tunnels. We have not yet been up there, but that is where we are thinking might be an option. We would still need to land on the beach, and climb from there."

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Are the windows big enough for us to get through? Nowzai, you also have those spider climb slippers if you don't want to waste a spell


After a long rest and a discussion about approaching again, the party takes back to the slopes, eyeing the entrance to the structure carefully as they drag the boat back to the water. Checking the eyes carefully, nothing seems to be moving at all and the party slowly approaches across the water, bows, blades and spells at the ready. Landing at the foot of the steps, they await the armored party members to rearmor themselves.

Nowzai climbs up the edge of the structure quickly in his slippers, rope in hand. He slips into one of the large eyes of the fish head. A narrow passage connects the two small chambers inside the eyes. Neither has any furniture or features beyond the large openings in the southern wall. Looking back, Nowzai notices that he can see the entirety of the lake and the cavern to include the switchback path which the party just came down. There are a set of stairs descending to the west and a door in the northern wall.
