Flex time gets a bit awkward here. Need a group decision: nest first or door in storeroom first?.
First question are we going to kill Triel for the Talking webs for only 1 wand of control water and freeing Dalamus? Where are the rest of the Wands?
Malcolm do you really want to kill Triel?
Or are we going to take care of the Talking webs first?
Elder what should we do?
Nemoris |
There are a couple hundred arrows
I'll take the rest, I think this fancy quiver can hold a few hundred, right? (I know I can hold 60 arrows, but was hoping instead of the 18 javlins I could just fill that section up with arrows too, if not, no worries!)
I'm slightly confused on the rest, I think Malcolm really needs to question Triel, right, not kill her? Is she here and have I missed something?
DM Fflash |
It whines so ... we must smack it to keep it quiet
The Nest
The voice pauses for an exceptionally long time, as if pondering, then says, "Your friend there, afflicted with the wizard's curse. I have the caster with me. He has ... acquiesced ... to releasing him in return for the priestess' head."
Nowzai al'Nazari |
Nowzai frowns, and holds a hand up to the group. "One more moment, friends," he says before continuing with the spider.
Epik |
To the group, "They offer to release Dalamus from the spell, but will require something in collateral until we bring Triel's head. Any ideas?"
Will they take gold? We probably have over a 1000 gp between us.
DM Fflash |
The Nest
"Hmm, I'm afraid not ... something a bit more personal to one of you would work better. A wizard's familiar or a ranger's animal companion would be preferable. An item of distinct value or importance to you, not just one that money could replace. Do you have anything like this?

I'll allow 60 arrows per section, so 120 if you fill the arrow and javelin sections. Do you want to fill the bow section as well or leave that one for ... well, your bows?
Your other question I'm not ignoring, it's for the party to explain to you. Since the entire conversation is happening in another language, you should be a bit confused.
Malcolm Reigns |
"Nowzai, can you see if simply removing her from these caves and making sure that she is unable to return is good enough? We need her alive, one so we can get those of us under probation off as well as I need to question her as to what she knows about my sister. If all the spider wants is her presence removed, we can accomplish that."
"As for them needing something from us to release Dalamus, I say no. Currently our desires lie in the same direction, it wants Triel gone, and we want the wands and to take Triel away, to do this effectively we need Dalamus, if they want our help then they need to release him. They will get what they want and we will get what we want, if they don't release Dalamus then we will simple take him with us until he heals and then comeback, and when we do, we won't need to be friendly to this creature.'
"What this boils down to is does he want an ally or an enemy, we can be either."
Nowzai al'Nazari |
Nest
"The... mask?" Nowzai raises an eyebrow.
Turning back to the webbing,
As for the collateral exchange, I can offer a few magic items: wands, a mask of persuasive powers, maybe an enchanted dagger. They are all of exceptional value, and would be sorely missed."
DM Fflash |
And tell your trigger-happy friend that I understand your language, I just choose not to let it cross my tongue. Remember that you are in my home and your lives hang in the balance purely on my whim ..."
The voice's words end with an eerie hiss and the spiders bristle a bit but don't move forward.
Malcolm Reigns |
"I am sure that this spider is the poster child of kindness and love. I am sure he helps orphans find loving parents and hugs kittens but I am not going to make any deals with any creature that lives in a cesspool like this and allies itself with kobolds. And I am certainly not going to kill the only lead I have to find my sister. I know I can't speak for the party but the spider and kiss my pale white ass before I make any deals with it."
Wait what spiders? Is there a map of where we are? I thought we were still in the wizard's room. Are we not?
DM Fflash |
Advertised earlier when I switched to flex time (with a small pause for the elemental combat) and we explored everywhere? The Nest is the spider area. Reposted the original from about 100 posts back with link to map.
The Nest
The door to this room is stuck fast with webs as the party discovers once it forces it open. Spiders the size of small dogs skitter away as you push the door open. They watch you with 24 eyes. A voice echose through the cavern in articulate Draconic:Draconic: <spoiler omitted >
A tunnel leads out to the southwest. These caverns do not have the fungus nor are they well-lit. Little spiders and webs are everywhere.
Additionally, I forgot the XP for the first trap that Dalamus actually bypassed on the door vs. the bookcase. Everyone gets 200xp
Epik |
Does Epik sense that the spider is evil?
Nowzai al'Nazari |
Of course, its evil...
"Well, Malcolm, I cannot begrudge you the need to gather information about your sister, but we are alone in a hostile wilderness, surrounded by enemies. An ally, though certainly one of mere convenience, is a boon we should not lightly pass. Dalamus is in stasis, and will remain so for several days possibly. If we do not compromise with the spiders, and wait it out as you say, we will lose any fleeting surprise and initiative we currently possess here."
"Irregardless, we must decide quickly. On behalf of Dalamus, I would make the trade. But I am not the only voice here. Magma, Nemoris, Epik... what are your thoughts?"
DM Fflash |
The Nest
As an fyi (not applicable in this case, but I noticed it on an earlier detect evil) any creature less than 5 HD or levels won't radiate an aura of evil, even if they are evil-aligned, just so you know
Nemoris |

It seems like we're giving up a lot for a pretty unknown offer of assistance. I'm not convinced it's a fair deal or one they can even really offer. Has anyone been able to tell if the creature is telling the truth or spinning us a tale?
I also do not have anything of value like the spider wants, and am loath to kill when forced to...
Epik |
I sense no evil from these spiders. Let's make the trade.
Nowzai al'Nazari |
With a slim majority decision, Nowzai takes the mask and dagger, and one of his wands, placing it on the floor beside Dalamus's body.
DM Fflash |
The Nest
The three spiders retreat back into the webs and humanoid individuals walk out of the shadows of the southwest tunnel. One is a bald halfling, wearing a goatee and bedecked in robes and pouches. He continually looking behind him as he shuffles forward. He stops when he sees you, appraises you for a moment and then comes forward. Behind him is an atrocious blend of spider and ... something else. It walks on two legs, has the head of a spider and is purple colored with long spindly arms that end in sickle-shaped claws.
The purple creature ignores you, gathering up the items you left behind.
The halfling glances at it, shudders, and then asks, "Where is your would-be thief who triggered my trap?"
Epik |
To the halfling:
"Are you a slave to these spiders or do you serve willingly? How did you come to be here? What can you tell us of the area and the denizens? What can you tell us about Triel? We seek wands of water control to stoop flooding in Cauldron. Have you seen these wands?"
Is the halfling evil?
DM Fflash |
The Nest
The halfling ignores Nowzai and walks over to Dalamus, sighs, and waves his hand over the rogue. The amber casing dissolves away in an instant, and the half-elf opens his eyes, aware of his surroundings and completely unharmed.
The halfling turns to Epik and says, "Neither. Are you ready to go?" Without waiting for a reply, he heads out of the cavern and back toward the way you entered.
Epik |
Epik follows, on gaurd.
DM Fflash |
The halfling snorts at Nowzai and says, "Presumably. Come along, now, let's get this distasteful process out out of the way."
He leads the party back out to the beach and goes up to the southern of the 2 doors near the winchhouse. He opens it, peers in, and then turns and beckons to you all.
.
Main Entrance
The room you enter has a 40-foot high domed ceiling and a smoothly polished stone floor. Water from condensation runs down the walls, and a pair of large braziers to the northeast and southeast provide smoky light. A long table with a dozen chairs dominates the center of the room.
The halfing quickly crosses the room to the northwestern door, and then turns to you saying, "Wait here, the room beyond is trapped. Once the spikes retract, run through quickly. Hold this door open."
Trapped Chamber
With that, he opens the door, sprints 10 feet and opens the other door, smoothly slipping through it. He turns and catches the door before it closes and at the same time, the entire room erupts in thin razor-like spikes, dripping with a yellowish brown substance. They come from the ceiling and the floor, covering almost every square inch of the room, overlapping in the middle of the airspace, leaving no section unpenetrated. After 6 seconds, the halfing stage whispers, [/b]"Now, quickly!"[/b] You hurry and as the last of you cross the threshold, you hear the click as the trap resets itself. The halfling carefully closes the door and leads you down a short hallway to the west through another stone door.
Storeroom (North)
This room is filled with barrels of water and food. Dalamus notes another secret door in the south and without saying anything, points it out to the rest of you. The halfling ushers you through the door to the north which leads into a long L-shaped hallway. There is a door at the northern side of the western wall, another at the end of the eastern hall way and a third in the center of the southern wall.
It's at this third, southward facing door, that the halfling stops for a moment and points, "This is Triel's private chamber. At this time of night, she's either bathing or sleeping."
He scurries down the hallway and listens at the eastern door, nodding to himself. He returns to you, "The Captain's elites are eating and awake. The kobolds are nocturnal creatures so they are fairly active right now. Be careful. It's all yours from here." He steps back 10 feet from the door
Nowzai al'Nazari |
Nowzai will cast enlarge person on Magma. Just before we hit the door, he will cast summon monster II and bring in an augmented hyena (appearing next to the halfling).
In a low voice, he says to the others "Do we have a plan of attack?"
Dalamus Othreleth |
Before the halfling leaves "Little one, what is to be expected on the other side of eastern and southern doors? How many of these Elites are normally up here? Will Triel be alone?
Which way does the eastern door open, inward or outward?
If the eastern door opens towards us, I will quietly try and jam the door, to prevent it from opening
Once the door is secured, Dalamus will draw his bow and stand at the ready
Magma Iron Clan |
i will be the first into the room.
ooc
Damage will be 3d6 on the weapon in a large form and bonus damage from strength will be +10 and my attack will stay the same because the strength increase is off sent by the -1 to attack for the large form AC will also drop by one.

Let me know if i figured anything out wrong. should i put up an attack on Triel?

DM Fflash |
"Elites? There were 12 or so plus The Captain and then maybe 15 slaves, plus Jekkajak, plus ... well ... the other one, but you won't have to worry about him right now." He shrugs, moving to the second question, "She'll be alone, for now ... she can call aid fairly quickly. She's dangerous ... I wouldn't be surprised if she kills you all." He frowns for a moment and then mutters, "Then she'll probably kill me."
Shaking his head, he says "Behind the eastern door is the mess hall for the elites. The southern door is Triel's quarters as I said earlier. I've never been in there."
The doors in this dungeon all spin on a central pivot, so they open both ways, technically. You can jam both sides with a Disable Device roll ... what will you use to jam them?
