Jessamy Pierce |
Works for me.
"Thanks, Krojun. You sing real pretty!" Jessamy says as she looks around the room.
Perception (+3 vs. traps): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (7) + 15 = 22
All we know so far: The party eventually feels their way out of the room and heads east. No sooner do they reach the edge of the noxious smoke than they're assaulted by biting cold. The chill in this room isn’t quite enough to frost the floors and walls, but it’s certainly enough to frost the breath. The room itself contains several large suits of armor mounted on what appear to be frozen or preserved ogres, trolls, and hill giants, all staged as if rallying for war.
Jessamy Pierce |
That's actually a really good idea. Let it help heal us while we're fighting. A lillend azata could be perfect, especially considering it can also use invisibility to give us an initial edge...
While she's waiting for the others to get ready, Jessamy quietly pads toward the open hallway and looks to see what's beyond it.
Stealth: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (12) + 18 = 30
Perception (+3 vs. traps): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (15) + 15 = 30
DM Feral |
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 20
Moving through the adjacent hallway, Jessamy peeks into the next chamber. She sees a twenty-foot-square room shaped almost like a silo, its ceiling arching up to a vaulted height of one hundred feet. The walls seem to visibly ripple when the heroic rogue pokes her head into the space. Suddenly a booming voice like crackling embers roars to life.
"Hmm... a foolish intruder enters domain... Turn away little one or I'll have to tear you into smoldering bloody pieces..."
Jessamy Pierce |
"Eep! Sorry!" Jessamy squeaks as she quickly retreats.
"Guys! There's something ... BIG ... down that hallway" she hisses as she returns.
I say summon the azata, let's get healed up, any buffs we can manage, and then go kill Mokmurian.
Jessamy Pierce |
So let's figure this out round by round, since the azata's only here for 11 rounds...
Round 1: It'll cast cure serious on Dorf: 3d8 + 7 ⇒ (1, 4, 5) + 7 = 17; Ensu casts guidance on ? (someone claim it or Ensu pick someone)
Round 2: Someone decide quickly if it casts CLW on dorf too to get him up to full. Otherwise, it can cast invisibility if we think that's worth it (could help Jess get into position...), but truthfully, probably getting in to fight is our best bet.
Once we're inside, have it inspire courage and then be ready to cast cures on Ensu is the best plan, IMO. Could also close into melee...
NINJA'D: Or we use wand healing and then head in as soon as the azata appears. I'm not sure invisibility gets us anywhere.
Pirknok Stonemight |
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
That plus 34 from Krojun will put me at precisely 135/135. 3 charges used... let's go.
Jessamy Pierce |
As she enters the room, Jessamy uses her touch of good on herself.
Touch of Good (Sp) - +5 sacred bonus on attack rolls, skill checks, ability checks, and saving throws equal to half your cleric level (minimum 1) for 1 round. 1/5 uses.
DM Feral |
"I warned you..."
The voice growls when Jessamy steps back into the room.
A figure suddenly emerges from the southern wall. A massive, fire-filled maw splits the belly of this lumbering iron-skinned fiend, whose short arms end in razor-sharp claws.
Before the rogue can react it reaches out to 'bite' her with its belly-mouth.
Bite: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (10) + 19 = 29
Damage (adamantine): 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (2, 5) + 9 = 16
Shockingly, the monster's 'bite' cuts through Siolad's protective spell like its not even there, bloodying Jessamy. Also, its jaws dig into her silvery breastplate threatening to tear it apart...
Sunder: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (13) + 25 = 38
Damage (adamantine): 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (3, 1) + 9 = 13
Krojun: 1d20 ⇒ 16
Ensu: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Jess: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Pirknok: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Siolad: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Badguys: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Ensu is up.
Jessamy Pierce |
Did the azata get to go at the same time as Ensu? If so, it could have healed Jessamy. Or at least been on this side of the wall to provide flanking/an extra target.

Treading carefully, Jessamy begins making her way around the creature, hoping to catch it between her and and Pirknok in their usual death-causing scheme.
She jabs at it with her sword as she goes.
5-ft. step to AW-43

Pirknok Stonemight |
Pirknok's eyes go wide as the creature bites Jessamy hard and threatens to shred her armor. Hurrying forward, he swings his own sword in an attempt to wreak righteous vengeance on the monstrosity! I'll take the +2 from BoF. Move to AW45 and boop.
Boop (PA, BoF, inspire): 1d20 + 18 - 3 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 18 - 3 + 2 + 2 = 27

Siolad Andosana |
Round 1: Actions
Standard Action: Cast Teleport to get beyond the wall! Aiming for AW-41.
Azata Standard Action: Start chopping at the beast!
A cursing Siolad grabs Ensu's and his lillend companion's hands. "Dammit. Alright, plan B."
He utters a quick incantation...
On Target?: 1d100 ⇒ 56
...and in a puff of smoke, brings Ensu and the lillend across to engage the beast.
Siolad points at the burning robot, and the azata leaps into the fray!
Longsword Attack *Inspired*: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 12 + 2 = 28
Damage *Inspired*: 2d6 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (4, 1) + 8 + 2 = 15
How many rounds have passed before we engaged the new monster, GM?
DM Feral |
It's been ~two minutes since the last encounter.
Bending time and space with a quick incantation, Siolad brings himself, Ensu, and his conjured celestial into the fight. Unfortunately, the heroes' attacks all clatter harmlessly off of the fiery fiend's metallic form. The monster laughs in mockery and prepares to strike again...
I actually skipped our gnome. Ensu is up.
DM Feral |
Siolad recognizes this creature a forgefiend an outsider native to the region where the plane of fire and plane of earth touch. They're resistant to acid and cold, immune to fire and poison, and naturally resilient. It's attacks tear through most materials as adamatine and can vomit up magma periodically.
Siolad Andosana |
"Ah. A forgefiend." Siolad glares. "It resists acid and cold, and is outright immune to fire and poisons of all sorts. Its teeth and claws can rip through earth and stone as if they were made of adamantine. They're also damn tough to kill."
Does this one have DR of any sort that I was able to identify?
DM Feral |
Ensu's bolt sails harmlessly into the monster's belly-mouth.
Nobody's actually hurt it yet so... Victim: 1d2 ⇒ 2
The flames billowing from the forgefiend's belly seem to spread to the rest of its form as it tears at Pirknok and Jessamy.

Pirknok Stonemight |
Dorf takes 12, Ensu takes 12.
Dorflex: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Pirknok recoils from the monster's fat forge-belly enough to keep it from chewing on his armor, but it still manages to catch him enough to cause some damage. Roaring a Shoanti battle cry, he retaliates!

Ducking under the creature's blows, Jessamy continues to move around it, stabbing with both of her swords.
5-foot step to AX-43. She's considered flanking because of the Gang Up feat. I'm not giving her the additional +2 she would have for flanking with Pirknok -- even though he's one of the two threatening allies that let her get flanking -- since she's not directly opposit him. Attacking together Pirknok, Krojun, and Jessamy hack and slice at the monstrous fiend but struggle to overcome it’s metallic hide. Krojun and Jess have some luck each managing to land a blow on a weak point in their opponent’s thickly armored form. Finally blooded the forge fiend turns its wrath on the Thundercaller and the heroic rogue.
Siolad and friend is up.
