Siolad scratches his head and taps his staff against the ground.
"Here's hoping for a larger interior and less spiders..."
Sure enough, this cavern is much larger on the inside. More bones litter the ground of the dark space and a large fire opal glitters from atop an especially large mound of them.
The cavern narrows into a tunnel near the rear that leads deeper underground.
Jessamy looks around.
"Something made that stink. And left those pretty stones over there..."
Jessamy hears something large shuffling in the darkness overhead.
Ensu looks around too.
"Do we need light? I can send some dancing lights out? Ensu says as he stares at the gem.
"We're not alone in here!" she hisses, trying to move out from under the thing.
Pirknok glances around, his sword out and ready.
Siolad braces himself, his staff readied.
"Oh, dear..."
Krojun holds his axe loosely in hand and scans the ceiling.
"Someone light a torch or something so we can see!" Jessamy hisses to all her companions.
Seriously, no one can see anything in here!
Those will darkvision see that near the roof of the cavern are deep shelves that lead up and out of sight.
Suddenly a bestial roar fills the echoing space and two large draconic shapes step out onto the edges of the shelves up above.
Pirknok growls and raises his sword. "Dragons!" he exclaims. Glaring up at them, he makes a face and tries to scare them away.
"Where? I can't see anything!" Jessamy whines.
Siolad examines the creatures as they swoop in...
"Actually, those are wyverns. They're the more primitive cousins of dragons that they don't talk about at family gatherings. No spells or breath weapons, but their tail stingers pack a nasty poison. Don't let them sting you!"
Ensu snaps his fingers and a set of lights shaped like little lanterns appear above his head and move out 10 feet and up 10 feet.
Ensu's spell lights up the cavern bringing the draconic beasts into view.
With a howl they dive down onto the party and as they do their scorpion-like tails snap forward to deliver said deadly venom.
A titanic roar is heard from outside similar to the ones attacking the party now but much larger.
"Oh, yeah. Those are dragons," Jessamy says as she sees the creatures lurking above.
Pirknok nods once at Jessamy's observation, then dodges behind the nearest one and waits for Jess to distract their target. The moment it turns its head, the dwarf lunges forward with his sword a-flurry.
Krojun howls his battlecry and begins chanting the litany of the honored dead, while attacking the nearest dragonish. and for plus electricity!
Jessamy steps up, whipping out her swords and tries to skewer the dragon, like she and Pirknok did to the last one they met. She grins as her swords slice deeply into the dragon's hide.
Yeah, that's right you overgrown lizard!
"Wyverns..." Siolad sighs before more-or-less giving up.
The sound of the roar outside makes the mage spin around, an incantation primed to blind whatever it was that made the noise if it decides to show up.
Ensu takes a hit from a tail but shrugs off the poison this time. Surrounded by Wyverns and realizing he has no way to move out of the way without taking a hit, draws his morningstar and raises it to protect himself.
Pirknok badly bloodies his target with an especially deadly blow while Jessamy delivers her own three smaller cuts. Krojun's axe struggles to overcome the beast's thick hide but his thundering chant lends strength to his allies's attacks.
The wyverns continue their attack.
From the cave entrance a huge specimen barrels inside. It beelines for Siolad only to be blasted in the face by the elf's readied spell.
...and it roars in anger as its rendered blind.
Pirknok roars in anger and hacks back at the creature harming him.
Krojun continues his litany and swings twice at the wyvern menacing Jessamy. for plus electricity damage and for plus electricity damage!
Jessamy blinks a couple times as a wing catches her in the face.
"Stupid dragon!" she taunts, as she slashes again at it, black athame sinking deep into its hide.
"WYVERN!" Siolad yells as the big one enters the cavern. Incidentally, it also serves as an appropriate response to Jessamy's taunt.
"I think this one's their mother!" He says, beginning to panic. That beast was NOT supposed to be so close to him!
He tries to defensively cast a magic missile spell at it, for lack of a better option...
...and promptly runs off to the side, thankful the beast is blinded!
The raging dwarf messily finishes off the wyvern attacking him while Jessamy and Krojun bring down another.
Ensu steps away from the last Wyvern and holding his holy symbol cries out. "Companions feel my blessing!"
The mega-wyvern attacks in a blind desperate rage.
Ensu emerges from the flurry of attacks unscathed but the beast manages to shake the blinding dust from its eyes.
Pirknok grunts and takes a step toward the new arrival. "You stay away from him," he mutters, swinging his sword with powerfully-muscled arms.
Jessamy dives toward the big DRAGON!, channeling the power of Ensu's spell as she tries to circle around to the opposite side from her dwarven counterpart.
She stabs with her sword, hoping to put this last thread down quickly.
Ensu weathers the attacks like a brave little gnome, dodging the sting attack, dipping under the wyvern's bite, diving under one of his wings and ducking under the other. He then dodges to the other side just for good measure.
"I am just a little gnome, not tasty at all for dragons. You should pick on someone your own size!" his cracking voice revealing his fear.
Siolad looks like he's about to snap. "It's a wyvern. It's a wyvern. It's a f**king wyvern."
He stays put where he is, confident that the party will be able to finish off the beast without him getting in the way.
Krojun steps toward the ...dragon, still chanting the litany and swings twice!

Ensu starts giggling at Siolad.
Krojun's axe struggles to overcome the big wyveryn's thick hide. Jessamy and Pirknok each manage a solid blow but seem to only make the huge beast even angrier.
The burly dwarf lets out a grunt as he's struck by the dragon's teeth and tail, but he fights off the pain and retaliates with his ebon blade!
