Got it. Sorry, didn't realize it was magical darkness. Thought it was normal darkness.

Zarine moves to the side of the catwalk and shoots ahead of where her group should be at one of the spider sounds, listening carefully and trying not to hit her own party.

Is it 50% miss chance, or worse than that? (Not sure of everything involved.) If it is 50%, putting my miss chance roll into a spoiler, and letting the DM call low or high for the duration so it doesn't look cheaterish like I chose low or high based on my roll.

Miss Chance Roll:

Miss Chance: 1d100 ⇒ 8

I hope we haven't lost Filbert, it's been nearly a month since his last post.
Filbert hesitates unwilling to send a blast into the darkness and hit the gods only know what.

Likewise Momijii wasn't going to blunder around in the darkness, you are 60' up and who could say what would happen if you stepped off the catwalk. Maybe the webbing might bear your weight, maybe not!

Zarine darkness is harsh, you need to pinpoint the square monsters are in and then roll the 50% miss chance. Usually pinpointing is a DC 20 perception check although you're free to attack adjacent squares if something attacked you (possible they might have moved though). Heinrich has a darkvision buff so he can describe where the enemy are which gives (hmmm ok lets say) a +4 circumstance bonus on that perception check.

Zandomir Perception: 1d20 + 16 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 16 + 4 = 35 <--- Yes
Even without Heinrich's advice Zandomir's sensitive ears picked up the sound of the lumbering monsters as they approached. By instinct he wheeled to the west and fired. Unfortunately the first one went wide and the second one bounced off the spider thing's leathery hide.

Zarine attacked where she thought something was in the darkness but nothing seemed to connect.

Lizzie is up!

The AP doesn't specify but it would be logical for there to be railings, so lets assume there are and they're about waist height for a human.

Apparently a dog is a 'noam's best friend...
Lizzie's husky easily picks up the stench of the approaching spider things and it leads her forwards. As she follows the hound something sticky and disgusting brushes past her left ear.

Paying this no heed Lizzie flails her morningstar about when she hears the hound attack something ahead. She feels the sudden resistance of heer weapon digging into flesh along with an outraged howl, but her second strike hits nothing, whatever she's fighting must have darted aside.

Lizzie hears rather than sees things rushing past.

Heinrich downs his alchemical concoction and suddenly the world of darkness springs into a strange grainy false-life, where he can see in a blurry (thermal imaging) kid of way what's going on! Heinrich you see the lead monster brush past to engage Zarine. Go teach it the error of it's ways! (you have an AOO).

The spider-like monsters surge forwards to bite at their prey! Yet in their eagerness to feed the leas ones overshoot and miss. Zarine and Heinrich hear the snap of jaws near by. Momijii and Lizzie however feel a sudden pinch as something clamps down followed by the burn of it's poisonous ichor. Both them are made of sturdy stuff and shrug off the effects.

Zandomir instinctively fires at the creature that attacked Zarine. While he recognizes they'll probably have to kill all these things eventually, he would rather not expose the bard to danger unnecessarily, particularly when she's prone to doing that on her own. Vmmpf! Heinrich flicks Red Destiny towards the spider thing and it slides in horribly easily as it cauterises flesh!

Unable to see Filbert hesitates not wanting to blast the wrong thing, as does Momijii. Both of you can post actions.

Was there any more with Aiko?

Palace of Birdsong| Shards of Oberon map | War for the crown maps

Zarine steps away from the snapping jaws and looses but Zandomir's arrows had felled the beast not hers. Still her sharp senses picked up the lumbering gate and the whip like snap of jaws menacing Momijii who unable to see was taking evasive manoeuvres.

Normally I'd bot Lizzie but its the weekend.

Earlier with Momijii & Aiko:
"I remember my childhood, at the time I thought the world was against me, that everyone hated me because father wouldn't buy me the fancy dolls I saw the rich girls play with." looking far away Aiko shakes her head, "I now realise I was blessed with parents loved me more than anything and the rich girls I so idolised where brought up by strangers, and although they had everything that money could buy they never knew what love was." Abruptly she sighs, "It all seems so long ago now, like a dream. This place will suck you in as you join the dance like a moth to a flame. The dance is eternal and it is as if time stands still here, yet it passes back home, so much so it seems I am now the stranger and home is naught but a receding memory."

When Momijii told her of the wise man's proverb, Aiko smiled shyly and leant into her as they started a simple slow waltz. Aiko proved to be surprisingly nimble on her feet and as the music changed she went for something faster yet the dance still managed to look elegant and refined. Aiko seemed happy yet pensive and then by increments alarmed when Momijii mentioned the struggle.

"Things happen." she whispered, "Like in a bad dream. I - uh - not all of the guests are..." She struggled for a word, "Nice." Almost pleadingly she whispered, "Please tell me you'll come back. It's not possible to dance the Sunset Waltz alone."

Lizzlie's faithful hound has no trouble sniffing out trouble, and with a snarl it sinks it's teeth into one of the spider things long legs! Lizzie however can't see what she's doing and despite the vigor with which she thrashed her morning start about, she connected with naught but thin air.

Heinrich however could not only see, he noticed the sloppy instinctual way these spider things attacked. He knew just how to take advantage of this and anticipating an attack, he thrust out with Red Destiny which buzzed as it sunk deep into the things side VvvvrrrZzzch!

Unfortunately Red Destiny wasn't acting like a normal blade and the spider-monster provided no resistance as it slipped through. This meant Heinrich got way too close and the thing bit him, injecting it's venom! Fortunately his body shrugged off the noxious chemicals.

Momijii couldn't see the monster, but she could move with a grace that none could match. Weaving through the kata of defense, she hear the creatures jaw snap close a little to her left and felt its claws rending the air where she'd been moments before.
Momijii usually has 19 ac but is denied dexterity so 18 due to darkness. Now she's taking total defense and has more than 3 ranks in acrobatics for +6 ac for a total of 24 ac.

Lizzie is denied dex too but she has a dex modifier of +0 so no change there.

Aiko:
Momijii enjoyed the dance and Aiko's talk of her past. It made her a bit jealous but she was glad this woman had such things to remember. As the music changed to a waltz Momijii moved in the steps with her partner, who was far better at it than her, but none the less she gave it her all.

When they finished their latest dance and her friends were ready to go Momijii noticed Aiko's worried look and pulled the woman close to her as she spoke. Momijii placed her forehead against Aiko's as she expressed her fears of this place and Momijii considered the request carefully. After a moment she finally said in an equally soft voice to Aiko's, "I won't promise I will return as I refuse to make a promise I can't be sure I can keep to you." there was sadness in her voice as she spoke those words but her next came with firm resolve as she continued, "What I will promise is to do all in my power to come back for you, hopefully with a way for you to return to the real world with me." She placed her hand on the back of Aiko's head and tilted her own to brush her lips against the other woman's.

When the kiss was over Momijii stepped back and gave a sad smile as she turned and caught up to her friends so they could make their way to the catwalks.

Momijii felt the wind from the attacking creature and managed to deftly avoid all of it's strikes as she tried to determine where it was so she could strike back.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
Momijii used the wind of it's passing claws to home in on it's location and lashed out with a flurry of blows augmented with fire wreathing her limbs.

The creature's claws snapped past Momijii sending a musty breeze head on. Knowing where it was Momijii lashed out with a furious kata. Her first punch landed solidly snapping its neck back and leaving it dazed. She followed up with vicious side kick which shattered it's ribs and sent it flying. It landed heavily and thrashed about in agony as it's broken ribs lacerated it's insides.

Fort DC 17: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 <---FAIL

Just as he was about to loose, Zandomir realized Momijii had smashed the spider thing to pieces and he whirled in search of a new target. By the sound of it Lizzie was fighting two of the monsters and her faithful hound had wounded one of them. He loosed, it went wide arrow clattering into the distance. His second crackling shot struck home eliciting a high pitched clacking howl!
Hope you don't mind me redirecting your attack, if you'd prefer a different target we can retcon.
Perception Zandomir: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (10) + 16 = 26 <--- PASS

Similarly Zarine found her target dead so she too strained to hear the sounds of combat. There! She heard Lizzie's hound whine as it bit something and was bitten in return. Arrow already nocked she pivoted and loosed and was rewarded with a twang-thwack-THUD as something heavy hit the deck like a sack of potatoes!
Perception Zarine: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30 <--- PASS

Her second shot was already in the air before the thing fell and it pinged harmlessly off a distant wall.

Lizzie's hound snarled as it went for the spider monster to the west and it's jaws snapped shut with a clack s the thing flinched back just in time to be smacked by Lizzie's morningstar. The vicious little spikes left oozing holes in it's hide, not that Lizzie could see it but she felt the spray of its ichor and the suction as she yanked her weapon free. She tried for another strike but it had moved and she hit nothing.

Heinrich had been focusing on the spider thing attacking Momijii and he saw it hurled back like a rag doll as Momijii's snap kick caved in its sternum. He turned to the left and thrust Red Destiny up to the hilt into the nearest monster which shrieked as the humming blade cauterized it! Freaking out the creature snapped at him with maw and claws. Its attacks where spasmodic and Heinrich dodged all but one claw which raked painfully across his back.

Yep, I'm good with the redirect, DM.

With another creature falling, Zan can sense victory closing in. But he can't afford to get complacent, especially not in a place as bizarre as the Dreamlands. His bow infused with divine energy, he fires two more arrows at the green creature.

Zandomir's nocked and loosed another crackling arrow into the melee. There was a great kerZAAP-THWACK and something heavy and unseen toppled over. This left a single target according to Heinrich. Zandomir tried to focus on this last monstrosity but he hadn't quite got the angle right and his arrow was lost in the perpetual gloom.

Lizzie's hound yipped and growled as it attacked but the thing shrunk back away from its jaws. As much by accident as by design Lizzie's morning star struck a glancing blow but her follow up whistled through empty air.

Going to give Heinrich and Momijii a chance to finish it.

Perception DC 20 with Heinrich's advice: 1d20 + 10 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 10 + 4 = 15
Momijii finds herself without a near by opponent. She can hear the fight but the area echoes strangely and she's unable to pin point it.

Heinrich thanks to his darkvision infusion has no such trouble. He strides forwards and plunges Red Destiny into the last spider thing's torso causing it to thrash about as it dies.

COMBAT OVER

As the sounds of combat fade you hear a muffled, "Mmm, Mmm, Mmmm!' from about 50' to the west of your current location.

Heinrich:
When you get closer you noice a human shaped cocoon thrashing about.

What do you do?

Zandomir is shocked to hear the sound of someone still alive that isn't a monster. He was convinced the person he saw get snatched had to be dead. Could the creatures have captured someone else?

Zandomir will wait for someone who can see to lead the way. He'll use Fervor on whomever they find, assuming it's not a monster.

The velvety darkness is so complete your eyes start to see strange patterns, again something or someone cries out, "Mmmm! Mm mmmm!"

Heinrich can lead you but I was hoping not to have to bot too much. You can pinpoint with a DC 20 perception check anyway.

If you investigate the cocoon:
Wrapped tightly inside the silken cocoon is a beautiful human girl who has been bettered a bruised (not that anyone but Heinrich can see her). She is terribly frightened.

Zarine carefully feels her way over to the sounds of what has to be the struggling Maudette, freeing her and trying to comfort her. She also explains, in the darkness, why they even thought to look for her, and that in a strange way, the viscount saved her by asking to back out of a dance.

She also suggests to the whole group that they return to the ballroom before another group of... whatever they were... comes.

Palace of Birdsong| Shards of Oberon map | War for the crown maps

"What! The count sent you to uh break off his promise?" she laughed at the ridiculousness of it, "Hells I'm just glad to be alive. My dress is ruined in any case so there's no way I'm dancing tonight, I just want to go home."

With Heinrich's guidance you feel your way back to the ladder and help Maudette with the long descent. The red-ish sunlight seems terribly bright at first but you soon get use to it. You have a chance to look at Maudette for the fist time reveling a beautiful if disheveled young woman. She has long straw colored hair from which bits of cobwebs dangle. She sports several nasty looking bruises and her once beautiful red silken dress is ripped and stained. Looking each of you in the eye she says, "Thank you without your help I'm sure I'd have suffered some hideous fate. I wish I could repay you somehow."

Strangely the other guests ignore the reappearance of the battered young girl and continue to dance around your group as if nothing was amiss.

Zandomir makes sure to heal some of Maudette's wounds before she flees.

Fervor: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 1) = 7

He's genuinely surprised that the woman survived being dragged above and cocooned. He was convinced that the person he saw get snatched was a goner.

Is there a check Zandomir can make to verify that Maudette was the one he saw get snatched earlier? Or does he recognize her? I seem to recall there being a pool of blood, but your description of Maudette seems to be inconsistent with wounds that would result in a large amount of blood loss. Probably overthinking this, but want to be sure.

If necessary/helpful:

Zandomir gives Maudette a cursory inspection to make sure she's not at risk of collapsing suddenly from any internal injuries.

Heal Check: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25

Palace of Birdsong| Shards of Oberon map | War for the crown maps

Zandomir floods the area with positive energy and many of the bruises and abrasions on Maudette vanish. Taking a closet look he's convinced of two things, firstly the unfortunate reveller he saw was taller and secondly Maudette's physical wounds are almost completely healed but the psychological scars are deep.

Zarine spots Ardvin at once, he is at the center of a knot of wealthy partygoers, all of whom are using the gala to share drinks and negotiate business. Ardvin is a thin, dark-skinned man with short dark hair and a neatly trimmed goatee, and he enjoys being the center of attention in this corner of the gala.

Two of the gaggle of merchants around him stand out. One an elder waspish looking man with regal clothes and what appears to be a scaly tail snaking out from under his coat tails. Another a beautiful red head woman with a predatory smile and a pair of scintillating stilettos.

That's a good idea, but not sure how likely it is, since he wants to be the center of attention. Diplomacy: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (17) - 1 = 16 Someone else should probably lead on that Diplomacy check. Zan's not exactly the best with words.

When it comes time to deal with breaking the news to Ardvin, Zan nods at Zarine's suggestion. "Seems like something worth trying, though if he's as much the center of attention as he wants to be, we might have a hard time prying away his admirers as well. Maybe someone could try to subtly pass him the message?"

That last part refers to using Bluff to pass a secret message, if someone's confident in their bluffing ability.
