Please check in here, and begin out of character discussion. Welcome to teh thread. Hopefully this game will last longer than a dozen posts!

I will begin by looking at each character build in detail and asking some questions. Please make sure you stats etc are all on your character somewhere.

Also please make sure you "show" you base stats on the sub-line under your name. HP, AC, Init, Perception, and saves are most important.

First point of discussion is about adding to teh 4-man group. You cover the key jobs of an adventuring party well, but I worry about attrition. If we drop to three we will have to add. Do you want to go to 5 or 6 now, or just wait till one of you is missing to start the search?

BTW, Gameplay is open if you want to "dot in" to get this on your campaign tab.

Dotting in. I have sent PMs and I see you replied in the original games Discussion thread. Thank you again for taking this game up, DM DocEvil. :)

My stats are in my profile in a format that should be familiar. FYI we did optional 20 point buy or rolled stats (2d6 + 6 I think) as per the original recruitment thread.

I agree that we have a solid group, with the only thing I think we might be missing is another front liner. We have quite a few squishy caster types. As far as new folks go, I'd be inclined to recruit up to 5-6 (depending on the quality of submissions) but I'm also flexible. If we're antsy to get going, we could always start up some RP at the Swallowtail festival while we find additional players (see original thread for an idea of what I mean).

Thank you for taking over DoctorEvil. I am ready to get this show back on the road.

I'd be fine with picking up another frontliner, it does get a little lonely when there is no one else on your team with you in the thick of melee.

Thanks for stepping up, Dr Evil. Will adjust my header to your specifications when I'm @ home and not on mobile.

If someone knows a reliable player, i have found it usually better to go with references than open casting. If you have a friend who wants to play, get them here and we will get started.

I appreciate all your opening posts on Gameplay, but I will likely start the game the day before the Swallowtail Festival itself. What i need from you is the reason you are in Sandpoint for the festivities. Really, PC's shouldn't be from the town, it ruins the exploration of the place. So what brings you here? The dedication of the town's new cathedral is known far and wide, so that might be a draw for some. The festival will be filled with traders, jugglers, clowns, and circus freaks. That might draw others.

Sandpoint is a bit of a backwater in Varisia, so folks don't usually stumble into town on purpose. Give me some flavor of your character as you tell the backstory...

Please post that here. I will use what you give to make an opening post for each PC. I assume you don't know each other, unless there is a shared background. So we will have to steer you all together and make a great festival. That is my challenge, but I am up for it! Let's get started in earnest.

Will reply to the gameplay thread tomorrow as it's late right now. I sent a few PMs to likely prospects so we'll see if we get any bites.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Candles burned with weak and miniscule balls of fire that fought hard to keep the darkness of this moonless night away from this run of the mill Magnimarian tavern. There weren't a lot of patrons about on this night but there were enough of them to cause a ruckus, something that the young inheritor of the establishment had gotten used to since he was but a boy. He kept himself busy by wiping the tankards and the bar, as he waited for orders or to carry someone out should they make more orders than they could handle...which ever came first.

With his mind on his work it was not a surprise that he did not catch wind of the stranger that approached the bar, he was large fellow, his biceps showed the muscles of a fighting man, and his armor and assortment of weapons stressed that point even further. The brown haired tavern owner could not help but stare at the scars on the larger man's face with morbid curiosity.

"Bread and water" Said the newly arrived guest as he conquered an empty stool.

"Huh...I mean, of course" Stumbled the young man with his words as motioned one of the maids to fetch the order of their new guest Bread an water? Wouldn't his type usually go for the heavy stuff? He wondered as he unintentionally glanced towards his kegs of liquor.

"I am traveling tonight, I find it better done sober, won't miss the stars or the bandits that way" Spoke the well armed guest without provocation, his eyes not missing the trajectory of the younger man's vision.

"Eh? Ah...yes, of course sir" But I didn't say anything He continued mentally, clearly annoyed at having his thoughts guessed.

"Looking for a man that probably passed by here a few weeks back" Karl leaned back slightly as the maid came back with a plate of bread and a mug of water, he noted her red hair, small lips and slim figure, but ultimately his grey orbs returned to her hair before he pulled out a silver piece and placed it in her hand "Thank you sweetling"

The maid smiled back at him before she went back to her work "What kind of man?" Came the voice of the young proprietor, drawing the bounty hunter's attention away from his beautiful employee.

"Bald, has a scar on left cheek, green eyes...as big as I am, probably had a few other rough looking fellows about him, goes by the name of Zalvo Dansi" Answered Karl, his stare not wavering from the tavern owner.

"Might have seen him, not sure" Replied the young man averting his eyes, and focusing on his work once more.

"Boy" Came the voice of the large guest, and the brown haired bartender returned to Karl immediately, annoyance sparking within them "It's been a long night for me and the guard captain, so how about ya stop playing games, or I am sure he'd love to speak to ya himself about how he's feeling on this night"

The young proprietor of the tavern went silent, his hand stopped wiping at the bar and his eyes went from left to right "He was here...Heard him mention Sandpoint a couple of times, that's all I know" Karl patted the naive owner on the shoulder once and cracked a wicked smile at his exagerated step back.

"I'll tell the captain that you were a lot of help" He devoured the bread rather quickly, took a large swig of the clear liquid and went about his way, giving the red head one last smile as he left the inn.

As he walked the darkened streets of Maginamar on his way to the closest city gate another red head appeared, but this time it was only in his mind, she was the one red head he doubt he'd ever forget "Your useless husband is doing great things Iris" He said sarcastically to no one in particular "Chasing a punk from Riddleport to Sandpoint...I'll never stop making ya proud"

I'll make a post in the gameplay thread later on.

I got the PM from DW. I am good with him joining and shared my build requirements. Thanks. He is good poster, and should be a nice asset to the group.

Alesta wrote:

I really liked the opening posts from all players, especially the bell-ringing touch. Save it for a bit and post it after you give me your reason for being in Sandpoint, and the description required while looking in the mirror.

Once in the town itself, the post you made will fit in spectacularly well.

Sorry, my game starts in a slightly different place than the previous GM. Meant to beat you guys to Gameplay posts, but you won the race...If you don't mind, please bear with me.

Hello All, and thanks for the invite Rikash and DMDE!

I was thinking a casting frontliner, something like an inquisitor. He'll work nicely with Karl Sarvo.

I was thinking a character whose personality would contrast Karl's. Along that line, I was envisioning a trouble-maker, too-curious-fro-his-own-health kind of sh!t-disturber; an inquisitor of Cayden with a decent strength and a disarming smile named Bad-Luck Baldek.

Let me know if you have strong feelings one way or another about this concept. I'm open.

@GM Okay, but can I just keep those rolls I did in my post if that's okay with you. If not I can reroll again. Just wanted to be sure before I have to reroll for the third time. X0

I'll try and post something in a few moments.

@DocEvil: No problem, glad you like it.

@Dreaming Warforged: Welcome to the game! I'll be honest I really like your concept, and find that for him to have a contrasting personality with Karl would be quite ideal. I can already see the banter between them :)

Since we'll be flanking buddies, ideally, I was thinking of taking the sanctified slayer archetype, which would also make my inquisitor a little more frontline.

Sounds like a fine idea in my opinion.

Losing judgements is a bit rough with Slayer, but you gain more consistent offensive output and skill bonuses. I like the archetype, but it's definitely a trade off. The bonus feats are also nice. :)

Alesta is in Sandpoint for several reasons: one and the real reason she's there is because she assumes (correctly even if she doesn't realize it) that there are Thassilonian ruins somewhere near the town. Another reason is pure curiosity. Being a musetouched she's filled with the same wanderlust that drives many azatas. She also hopes to find a place to play her music. A lot of people have told her that her music is both lovely and heavenly. She's heard rumors about the Sandpoint theater and hopes to check it out during her investigations. Alesta also hopes to see the new cathedral and is considering asking the town council and whoever is in charge of the cathedral to consider adding the empyreal lord she worships to the deities honored at the cathedral.

Just wanted to let you know that Javell DeLeon also responded. He's another great roleplayer who both DW and I have played with. He has a dwarf monk he can flesh out if you want details. I'll forward his details to you, DM DocEvil. Not sure if we want 5 or 6. :)

I am game for adding another good player ot the mix. With 6 PC's I will have to beef up some of the encounters a bit, but you should still find them suitably challenging, but not overly so.

If the dwarf monk wants in , then bring him forward to be judged.

Hello, folks! I appreciate the invite, Rikash, and to the Doc for willing to take another on. What's up, DW?! Hey! Wait a minute! No one told me DW was gonna be in this one! Well that's just great, there goes the neighborhood! ;) (I'm totally kidding, folks. Me and DW go waaaay back. Makes me feel old just thinking about it. :P)

Anyway, before I get myself kicked out before I've even begun, I'm gonna be running this guy: Darnak Deepstone

I am gonna need to know what the build rules are because I'm not really sure how he's built currently. He's been in several games in the past(there's that old feeling again) and as best I can recall they all had different build rules.

2o pt buy. 2 traits plus campaign. anything Paizo is fair game, no 3PP please.

Let's see if that gets Darnak up and in the game.

Have started going through the existing character builds and will ask a few questions for clarification if possible.

Adhak:

Tell me about your Feats? I get Endurance from racial change, but it looks like a Totem Spirit Feat and Scribe Scroll? How do you get 2 at first level?

Traits: I only see one (Fate's Favored). You can add another, plus a campaign trait, unless I am missing something.

Skill RAnks: Should have 6, but you list 7 on your sheet.

Money: How much money did you start with? I have lots more left over than you do...

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

Do I go ahead and post in the gameplay thread? Or do I need to wait? I'd hate to jump the gun on that.

But if so, will have to get to it tomorrow. It's late here and I gotta call it a night.

You can post in gameplay, specifically in response to my post about entering the village and looking in the mirror. Hold on to anything else until I get hooks in place.

Tommorrow will be fine. Thanks!

I tend to let my players get the maximum wealth for their character class. But that's just me.

Ah the first time I gmed. The party had a half goblin paladin of ilmater and a gargoyle Druid. We also had an elf wizard and a half elf paladin of heironeous. Stupid iPhone spellchecker.

Ok, after a lot of self-doubt, here is Baldek!

I'll post in IC asap.

(Hey Javell! Nice to see you there. Looking forward to debating the pros and cons of a virtuous Dwarven life with you. ;P)

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

Lol! Sounds good! :)

Looks like Darnak is good to go. Just have to check over Baldek and we will be off to the (rather slow) races...

Baldek: Have a few issues to discuss.

1) Trade isn't a domain for Cayden. Can you come up with something else?

2) I only show a 19 pt build. Also 12 is a +1 stat, not +2 so your HP are 12, not 13. Your Fort is only +3 Same with some of the CHA based skills. Did I miss something?

3) Going the old no armor route? Interesting.

Everyone should have an opening scene now to get them started. Eventually, some sooner, some later, they should all come together at the same place, but for now, its a company of strangers and you should each have your own method of getting there.

Feel free to read each other's stories and interact in the village if you want. This is supposed to be your new home, so the more you put into it, the more you'll get out of it.

Many of the people and places I am introducing you too in the vignettes may have other roles later in the game. Some bigger, some smaller. In PBP, as the action unfolds so slowly in real time, we may forget some of those threads that need to pulled. I encourage you to read back or keep notes. I do!

As you can see, a lot can happen before the Festival even begins. Sharpen your role-play, and let's see where it takes us.

1) Ouch! This is the key thing that was causing me pain to figure... I'll check options. Where are the subdomains listed?

2) Thanks. Added 1 to Con. I've left the Dwarven mods separate so you can see, but 13+2 is really 15, so it gives a +2 bonus. Sorry for the confusion.

3) This is just for the intro. He plans on using his gemstone to buy a few things when he can...
