SPECIAL ABILITIES
=================================================
Breathe thin air You can breathe both thin and stale air without ill effects, and you never suffer from altitude sickness.

Exceptional grace You display exceptional grace and easily keep your balance. You gain a +2 Racial bonus on Acrobatics checks.

Two Variations You may have two of these Variant Abilities.

Aasimar (Azata Blooded) Azata Blooded Aasimars Receive a +2 bonus to Dexterity and Charisma and a +2 bonus to Diplomacy and Perform checks. They can cast Glitterdust as a spell like ability.

Archaeologist's Luck (Ex) Fortune favors the Archaeologist. As a swift action, an Archaeologist can call on fortune's favor, giving him a +1 luck bonus on attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and weapon damage rolls. He can use this ability for a number of rounds per day equal to 4 + his Charisma modifier. Maintaining this bonus is a free action, but it ends immediately if the Archaeologist is killed, paralyzed, stunned, knocked unconscious, or otherwise prevented from taking a free action to maintain it each round. Archaeologist's luck is treated as bardic performance for the purposes of feats, abilities, effects, and the like that affect bardic performance. Like bardic performance, it cannot be maintained at the same time as other performance abilities. This bonus increases to +2 at 5th level, +3 at 11th level, and +4 at 17th level. (13 uses per day with +1 bonus)

Armored Casting (Ex) You can cast bard spells while wearing light armor and use a shield without incurring the normal arcane spell failure chance.

Bardic Knowledge (Ex) You add +1 to all Knowledge checks and may make all Knowledge skill checks untrained.

Bardic Performance Archaeologists do not gain the bardic performance ability or any of its performance types.

Cantrips You have learned a number of cantrips, or 0-level spells. These spells are cast like any other spells, but they do not consume any slots and may be used again.

Celestial Language (Ex) Aasimars speak Celestial.

Celestial Resistance (Ex) Aasimars have acid resistance 5, cold resistance 5, and electricity resistance 5.

Darkvision See in the dark up to 60 ft.

Darkvision (Ex) Range 60 ft.; Darkvision is the extraordinary ability to see with no light source at all, out to a range specified for the creature. Darkvision is black and white only (colors cannot be discerned). It does not allow characters to see anything that they could not see otherwise-invisible objects are still invisible, and illusions are still visible as what they seem to be. Likewise, darkvision subjects a creature to gaze attacks normally. The presence of light does not spoil darkvision.

Lillend's Harp Your ancestor was a lillend, a being of exceptional grace and singular musical talent. You gain a +1 trait bonus on Perform (string) checks. This bonus increases to +2 when you make a Perform check as part of a bardic performance.

Resistance to Acid (Ex) You may ignore 5 points of Acid damage each time you take acid damage.

Resistance to Cold (Ex) You may ignore 5 points of Cold damage each time you take cold damage.

Resistance to Electricity (Ex) You may ignore 5 points of Electricity damage each time you take electricity damage.

Scholar of the Ancients Growing up with your nose in books, you've had a great interest in past cultures and ancient history. Furthermore, having grown up in Varisia, you know the monuments dotting the landscape belong to an ancient civilization known as Thassilon. From your life of study and dogged research, you've pieced together the language and partial history of this once-great empire. You gain a +1 trait bonus on Knowledge (arcana) and Knowledge (history) checks, and begin play able to speak and read Thassilonian.

Skilled (Ex) Azata Blooded Aasimars receive a +2 bonus to Diplomacy and Perform checks.

Variant Ability (Sp) Some aasimars are blessed or cursed with unusual abilities.

Background:

Alesta grew up around books and magic. Raised by her mother, a professor at a wizard’s academy in Magnimar, the young girl was always surrounded by knowledge. While she had no desire to become a wizard, she did have a strong desire for knowledge. Eventually, her celestial heritage began to show itself, revealing that her lineage was from an azata, most likely a lillend, a being known for its exceptional musical talents. This drew a large number of men and women seeking her hand, but she turned down these would be suitors. This didn’t mean she didn’t’ have any lovers, simply that she wasn’t interested in marriage at the moment. Despite being the daughter of a professor, Alesta was expected to fund her own way through the university. She worked as a scribe in the academy, either assisting her mother, the other professors, or other scribes with their research. It was during her studies that she took up an interest in archaeology. Her mother was a leading researcher on the Thassilonian Empire, which led her daughter to take up an interest in the ancient empire as well. Alesta began researching Thassilon and its history, while practicing her love of music.

Eventually, the aasimar graduated with high honors. Sadly, her mother became ill and her time to pass on had come. With her mother’s love and last blessings, the musetouched archaeologist left Magnimar to explore the world and to learn more about the ancient cultures and civilizations that dotted it, especially in Varisia, where numerous ruins stood as representatives of the once great empire of the Thassilonians. During her travels, Alesta had learned that the town of Sandpoint may have a connection to Thassilon. Meanwhile, she had started to long for a more permanent companionship with someone special.

Description:

Alesta is a beautiful looking woman with some unusual features that enhance her beauty. Everything below her waist is covered in metallic, shimmering golden scales. Her ears are pointed. Her eyes seem to cause awe in anyone looking at her, for well, her eyes have all of the colors of the rainbow in them. Her hair is made up of multicolored feathers. She really does not like it when people pluck her feathers from her head! It hurts!

The musetouched also has a graceful build, although she is always slender. When she speaks, her voice has an almost musical tone to it; her laughter is melodic, while her shadow looks like it has feathered wings. When she passes by, nearby bells ring, which is a bit of annoyance for her as it has caused a good deal of embarrassment for the aasimar.

Personality:

Alesta is a friendly, kindhearted person, who tends to get carried away when she’s talking about history or ancient cultures. When she realizes that she has been going on for hours, she gets quite shy and quiet. She is passionate about music, enjoying the comfort and beauty that it brings. The aasimar is, however, a bit overprotective of ancient artifacts and relics, believing that objects of the past must be preserved so future generations can learn from them. Like her mother, she is also a devout follower of the Empyreal Lord, Zohls. Alesta loves research, believing that so much truth about the past has become lost throughout the ages, and that uncovering such forgotten histories is her way of showing her devotion and love towards the Verity. She is strongly determined whenever she puts her mind on something, refusing to give up. Whether you would call this determination or hardheadedness, Alesta is someone her adventuring companions can count on to stand by their side.
