Just a quick recap of the exploration rules, unless you have standing orders like always go right, etc, then I need to wait for someone (anyone) else to agree to a suggestion before the group goes along. Hopefully after the weekend we'll be back to a post a day?

"Aye, so it does. An' it seems we've hurt 'em good. Let's go," Dogrin says pushing open the bloody door.


The door with the bloody hand print opens into a strangely shaped hallway. The little area has 3 single doors and one set of double doors leading from it, in addition to the door you entered by.

Closer inspection reveals that the blood trail heads through the double doors, there is a blood trail here indicating something was dragged on the floor along this same path.

Basic search and seizure. The 'Other' admonishes. No doors behind you.

He blinks for a moment.

"One moment. Just going to check the broom closet."

Aleks backtracks into the main hall and checks the door leading north-east.

Figure might as well check the small room in A16 first. Would feel really stupid if we searched the facility from top to bottom with the Goblin hidden in the closet behind us.


Expecting a broom closet, and only opening the door as a formality, Aleksander instead finds a set of stairs descending into a dark cellar. It is pitch black, and ghostly quiet below. There are torch brackets along the stairs but the torches are missing.

Survival DC 15:
The dust here is disturbed quite recently and the thread of a leather goblin tunic rests on the edge of the top step.

"Doesn't look good.."

Viviana shakes her head looking at the blood and tries to open the door.


The door opens easily into a long hallway. The blood trail continues down the hall until it comes to a door, which has a few bloody prints around it as well. You can see the passage meets up with the hallway you saw when you first entered the Glassworks.

Beagan pipes in anxiously:"We should really choose which direction to go. I admit this blood trail is interesting, but those stairs that Aleksander found could be where they are keeping Ameiko also. I just don't want to split up and be attacked again. What say you?"

"Well, you could be right, Beagan, but . . .. The ones we know know that we're here went that way, right? Potential enemies or known enemies before they get much of a chance to prepare?"


"Silly, you should never leave a question of tactics to a gnome, or we're all likely to be dressed like butterflies and drinking dandelion wine when we go marching off...One of you violent longshanks should decide, and I'll just watch bemusedly," the sorceror says dreamily, thinking a nice cup of dandelion wine would go down well right now. "It matters little to me which path we take, we will end up on the path the Goddess chooses for us anyway. Such is Fate!"

Sorry it was my lame attempt at characterization of the NPC. He almost had a third dimension there for a second...almost.

Aleks shrugs. "Judging by tracks, I'd say 'Down'. Someone's been here rather recently."

"Then again, I've had just about enough of being jumped by things from the shadows."

He nocks another arrow and braces for a dynamic entry, leaning out and waiting for a clear shot. "Your call."

Unless Aleks' comments stall him, I had the impression Dolgrin was already moving. Player gets the heavy plot connection that was waved in front of him, but the character's not so certain.

The door opens revealing a dining room for the staff. This room has 6 other doors leading away from it. The room was probably once a comfortable eating and break room with plenty of space to play cards, or eat, or just hang out.

However, it appears Goblins have been here ahead of you as well. The tables have been over turned, and chairs are smashed. The blood trail you've been following seems to lead (or come from) back behind the door on the Southwest wall.

No apparent threats exist in the room.

"Trail looks dead." Aleks announces, slipping into the terse statements which filled his speech under pressure.

"We should double back."

Dolgrin curses as he opens the door with the trail. (Assuming he sees nothing but further trail and further closed doors...) He then turns to the others, "Aye, this cannae be the proper trail. Hot on their heels yet they can still keep distance while openin' an' closin' doors. It no be happenin'. Mayhap yer 'down' will bear tha fruit we seek."


The room was once a day room. There is no further sign of goblins except the wreck they made of the place and the now-cold blood trail you've been following which goes through another door.

That sounds like two voting for turning around, which is my standard. If you want to break up, or continue chasing this way, you can tell me, otherwise we'll go to the stairs.


Backtracking to the descending stairs in the loading room, the heroes face the same dank darkness that Aleksander saw before. The damp smell of earth comes up from below. Torch brackets are set in the walls, but no torches are present.

Beagan casts a light spell on a copper pinch and tosses it gently down the stairs. As it comes to rest, you see a typical storehouse basement with dirt floor.

As you descend you see in front of you the typical items found in a basement storage area. Barrels and boxes and bags of sand line the walls. Ahead a passage runs to the east.

To the left of where you descend, the ruined remains of a knocked down brick wall litter the floor (difficult terrain). The wall which looks professionally laid has been knocked inwards, as if whatever was behind it came out in a hurry. The passage behind that wall is older and mustier, and turns the corner to the south out of sight.

The Varisian lets out a low whistle. "I'm thinking that's not shown on the floor plans. Beagan? Can you do that light trick again, but this time on, say, my left boot? That'll be better than carrying a torch, by a long shot."


"Sorry, my friend, but my light only works on the side of Right," the gnome quips, casting the illumination spell on Gudada's right boot instead.

Satisfied, he gives a little Harumph!" and watches to see who will lead them where next.

"Where did they go..."

Viviana cast her own light on her glaive and carefully walk to the left ,curiously looking behind the corner.

Aleks advances behind Viviana, cautiously treading around the debris with his spear drawn.

Not a good place for a fight, the Other grimaces, Terrain favors the Defender.

"Likely why they chose it."

Smart for a gob. I don't like this.

Leaning out around the corner, he snatches a quick glance.

Dolgrin moves down the main hall to check around the other corner, using his darkvision to see down the other hall in case the goblins tried to get around the group.


As Viviana and Aleksander look around the corner to the south behind the knocked down wall, they find a passage that runs on for about 40' before turning west again. At the end of the passage, another pile of rubble from a knocked down brick wall lies scattered about the passageway. Between the two broken walls, two doors stand on the eastern side of the passageway, right next to each other.

At the same time, Dolgrin is looking down from the main hall to the east. He sees the passage continues for about 25' for so then turns north, unaware for now it's the same passage his mates are viewing from the other end. There are two doors down this hallway as well, both on the southern wall and spaced 5 or so feet apart.

There is no telling sign of footprints or other evidence compelling you to go one way or another.

"Okay, so, which way?"

Testing a theory, Dolgrin looks at Gudada, points at himself and then down the passage before stepping into the hall and down towards the end.

Double-move half speed with stealth for 20', should get him to the corner to peek around. Or hear anything in the rooms he passes for that matter.
Stealth: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26


Creeping down the hallway, listening for any sounds from inside the rooms, Dolgrin makes it to the end of the hallway and peeks around. At the far end, he spies Viviana with her Light spell glowing like a candle.

There is no noise heard from either of the two rooms Dolgrin passes, and no encounters seen down either hall.

Getting the jist of Dolgrin's intent, he thinks, Gudada replies to the gestures with a thumb's up. As Dolgrin slips around the corner, Gudada steps up to it, and listens intently for a sign that something may have gone wrong.

Aleks cautiously advances to the second door along the corridor, weapon drawn.

With his free shield hand, he waves a "cover me" to the group and slowly slips the door ajar to take a peek, weapon drawn.

Viviana stops next to the door and listen for any sounds from the other side.

You hear the spit and cackle of goblins coming from this room, not many by the sound, but at least more than one voice.

Beagan moves to watch Dolgrin but stays behind the Varisian rogue

As Aleksander opens the door to this small room, he sees a mussed up bed, a small desk, a rather large bottle of whiskey lying empty on the floor. Standing at the desk, gathering things, is an Tien half elf man in a dark robe with the hood down. Next to him is the escaped goblin from the upstairs battle.

Both make aggressive moves to fight as the door opens.

Initiatives:

The half-elf man curses you in a language you can only guess is Minkain and then waves the goblin forward to engage Aleks while he prepares a shortbow to shoot from behind the desk (20% cover miss chance if you shoot at him).

The goblin complies bravely and steps forward, hacking with his little dogslicer but striking the door jamb instead of the intended target.

"CONTACTED!" Aleksander yells, sidestepping the Goblin's poorly aimed swing.

As he dodges, he uses his momentum to send the spear sailing across the room towards the archer.

"GOBLIN AND SUSPECT! MOVING TO ENGAGE!"


Glassworks Basement - Surprise Round

As Aleksander cries out in surprise alerting the others, he dodges and throws his spear at the half-elf behind the desk. Red Goblin slices at him again as he throws, but the little fiend misses again. The thrown spear however, slices the side of the half-elf, giving him a nasty wound.

Moving all the way up next to Aleks, Gudada echoes the dwarf's sentiment. "Get behind me and force them to come out of the room to deal with us."

Shouting at Aleksander to draw them out, Gudada and Dolgrin ready and delay actions to see if they villains come out to the hallway.

Ordering the goblin to clear the doorway, Tsuto watches it lash out with it's slicer, cutting the bow wielding man deeply, then steps back into the room, clearing the way for the bow-shot from the half-elf leader.

Beagan moves up behind Dolgrin jumping and leaping try to see what's happening. "I can't see, keep moving, down in front, clear a path. Help, I can't see!" cries the impatient gnome.

Aleks hastily backpedals, loosing a hastily aimed shot at the Half-Elf Archer and planting an arrow squarely into the desk.

Swearing, he backs up.


Glassworks Basement - Round 1 - concluded

Pierced with an arrow and hit by the goblin blade, Aleksander stands in and fires once more before retreating from the doorway, and getting a does of sweet musical healing from the cleric of Shelyn. Unfortunately, his parting shot lands squarely in the desk cover, missing the intended target.

Viviana is not exactly surprised when the door in front of the her flies open and a goblin screeches out:

The speech ends with a single shout: "Longshanks! Ay!" and the door slams shut again.

Viv's Perception DC 15:
You have time to glimpse at least one other goblin in the background hacking up what appears to be a live rat with it's wicked dogslicer.

Gudada and Dolgrin may go now.

The Varisian mutters something obscene as the "posted guards" reveal themselves, before tumbling across the open doorway so that he can provide some protection to Viviana. As he arrives and readies to take a shot at whatever hostile target presents itself, he quickly throws a comment over his shoulder, "Miss me?"

Acrobatics to avoid AoO (if anyone is at the open door ready to take one): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27

As Gudada and Dolgrin move into position on either side of the door, readying to attack who comes out, both are a little surprised when the door slams shut, instead.
