Viviana join the dwarf examning the man.

As Dolgrin checks on the man, he doesn't notice any sign of life, pulling the body from half in the crawlspace, it is evident why. The face is half eaten off by a creature with ragged, jagged teeth and an unusually strong appetite.
Just as you see Alergast's wounds, the culprit (ok, alledged culprit) leaps from the crawl space. It is a goblin but with crazed eyes and a manner which you haven't seen from goblins before. This one cackles and shouts: "More dinner finally! Gresgurt so hungry!" and leaps to the attack with it's wicked looking goblin knife.

Growling at the goblin's sudden appearance, Dolgrin lashes out at it with fist and foot.

Round 1, Init 17
Beagan tries to get a good bead on the goblin and fires a Ray of Frost.
Monster in the Closet - Round 1
Gudada readies his attack and taunts the frenzied goblin, trying to get him out in the open where all can get at him, but before the miscreant falls for it, Dolgrin jumps into the door opening and unleashes a flurry of blows, one of which actually strikes the goblin, but his armor absorbs the impact and the strikes are to no effect. Immediately after, Beagan advances to get a good LOS with his frost ray which he has to shoot around the squirming dwarf and which misses any connection with the intended target.
The crazed goblin screams in fury and launches himself at the dwarf, hacking and stabbing with his makeshift goblin blade, but the thrusts are knocked aside easily by the monk.
Viviana tries to stab the goblin...

Viviana's tries to wedge her glaive in between the crowd a the closet door, but ends up tangled up in bodies and limbs and her attack aborts from the start.

"Grr! Let's try that again!"
"I can't get a clear shot!"
"Let it out where more of us can get to it!
Gudada remains where he is, waiting for an opportunity to strike the goblin as it advances out of the closet.
Dolgrin lashes out at the goblin once again and then tries to step aside.
Monster in the Closet - Round 2 - continued
Gudada still waits, weapon in hand, for the goblin to come out of the closet to strike.
The dwarf monk unleashes another flurry of unarmed blows, missing with the first, but striking the goblin in the head with his open hand with the other, bringing a trickle of blood from the crazed beasts mouth and nose. The dwarf then steps aside leaving the opening of the closet clear.
Even with the cleared space, Beagan's frost ray is unable to hit the goblin due to the oblique angle.
The goblin, threatened still by Viviana's glaive, is too hungry to care about that and leaps from the closet trying to slash at the little gnome that looks tastiest but the mirthful gnome is quicker than he looks, and avoids the dagger blade.
As the goblin leaps out of the closet, Gudada tires to simply put the pointy end of his rapier in the goblin's path, depending on the goblin's own momentum to do him harm.
Surprised by the Goblin, Viviana fail to act. She takes a step back and makes quick sign towards Beagan.
" Beagan get away from that thing,it is crazed!"
Monster in the Closet - Round 2 - concluded
Both Viviana and Gudada's attacks at the insane goblin miss, and it capers, a string of saliva running from it's oversized mouth.
The protective cleric of Shelyn casts a warding spell on Beagan, hopefully keeping the goblin-knife from striking him as the hungry beast waves it around crazily.

Gudada realizes that the small goblin is far more agile than he expected, and he tries to be more careful about where he places the tip of his blade and how he pushes it forward. Picking a new spot, he sees the blade slide through a flap of cloth and towards the goblin's form . . ..

Beagan takes a step back towards Viv, and away from the goblin.
"Whew, finally, some breathing room!"
Dolgrin lashes out again but with the new positioning and the goblin's speed, his blows fly wide.
Monster in the Closet - Round 3 - continued
Dolgrin continues to try to flurry shots at the cagey goblin, but the target ducks around the corner, leaving the dwarf monk with no contact at all.
Beagan, shimmering in the arcane shield of Shelyn, steps back from melee with the goblin and tosses another frost ray, but it is also off target again.
While the target is ducking the other attacks, Gudada stabs at it with his rapier, but the blow glances off the shabby goblin armor uselessly.
Seeing the juicy gnome step away, and still faced with two other enemies, the goblin turns on his race's ancient enemy, Dolgrin the dwarf, slashing the unarmored monk in the forearm for 4 hp.
Viviana strike at the goblin attempting to stab his leg.
Frustrated by the little goblin's ability to avoid his blade, the young Varisian quits trying to be subtle, and forcefully swings it overhand as though it was a much stronger blade. The swing makes an impressive noise, but it does nothing to brighten the young man's mood.

Stepping back, the fair Viviana tries to skewer the crazed goblin with her glaive, but again his frenetic movements make him unpredictable, and she cannot hit with the pointy end of her holy weapon.

Maybe it's the tight space, but Gudada's rapier strike continues to miss the deranged goblin commando who shucks and jives and cavorts around babbling unintelligibly.
Dolgrin lashes out at the goblin again, cursing at the small creatures agility as it avoids his blows.
Monster in the Closet - Round 4 - continued
The gnome sorceror continues flinging rays of icy frost around, still not hitting the insane goblin.
Dolgrin shouts epithets in his native tongue as his latest unharmed attacks against the vile goblin strike nothing but air. The goblin counter-attacks with his dagger, stabbing at the lunging dwarf, who cross-clocks the strike with a backhand.
Viviana misses the goblin again.
Goblin in the Closet - Round 4 - concluded
Viviana continues to struggle mightily with her long weapon in the confined space of the child's room and her attack fails again.

Shut up. Hear that? The 'Other' grimly notes the sounds of the scuffle coming from within the house.
"No... I'm obviously deaf."
Good for you. I hear it. Get moving.
Tensing in preparation for combat, Aleksander unslings his bow and heads for the door.
Frustrated with his failed attacks, Dolgrin instead relies on standard Dwarven skills, gripping his battleaxe in two hands and swinging it at the little thing.
"This is unbelievable!" Gudada takes a second to take a deep breath, reaching out to pierce the goblin as he exhales. Not that the calming breath seems to have made any difference . . ..

Monster in the Closet - Round 5 - concluded
As the goblin sidesteps Gudada's rapier attack once more, it unsuspectingly walks right into an axe blow from Dolgrin. The dwarf weapon cleaves nearly through the goblin, felling it without question. The goblin lets out a surprised bleat, then crumples to the floor in a bloody heap.

Viviana sighs in relief then looks at Dolgin's wound and utters a short prayer.
Dolgrin nods to Viviana in thanks and then looks at his bloody axe and sighs. "An' I didnae want te fall back on tha old methods... Me grandfather'd be disappointed. Still... what's done is done," he says as he looks into the closet whence the goblin had come.
"Why was the goblin hiding in the closet? Someone braver than I should poke around."
"Braver and less clumsy than me ... i usually perform well at the training hall ,but hitting things that actually bleed is different.
It should be safe however, from what i have seen the goblins fight in packs ,this one was probably alone."
Viviana looks at the man on the floor.Her face turns yellow but she examines his wounds.
"I'll give it a look, but I imagine he was hiding in there because it was where he managed to hide himself. Nothing more complicated than that, I would imagine."

As Viviana looks over the body of poor Alergast, it is apparent he is quite dead. Most of his face has been chewed off by the ravenous goblin.
Upon further investigation, Gudada's guess comes close to the mark. It appears the goblin warrior had spent the last few days since the raid holed up (literally) in a crawlspace hacked into the floor in the little boys closet. Unable to escape due to the family pet, and going mad from fear and hunger, the goblin finally lashed out tonight biting the boy,stabbing the dog, and ultimately killing the father as well.
You remember the mother, poor Amalie Barrett, left standing outside her house, wondering what might have become of her husband.
Viviana bite her lips at the sight of the man's face. Then out of habit
starts giving orders.
"That's beyond my skill.
We can't let his family see him like that!
Cover the body with something and take it to the cathedral, the desnians should have some magic to at least make him look less terrifying.
Beagan you come with me we will tell..."
Viviana pauses for a moment
"We lie to his family that he is heavily wounded ,let them have one more night of hope before they can say farewell ,without having nightmares."
Dolgrin frowns. "Why would we lie? If we told her he was alive she would want to see him. Tell her the truth. He is dead and it's probably best she doesn't see him until the priests have seen to him. If you want to soften things, you can say he died protecting his family, which could very well be true."
Viviana listens to the dwarf with surprised expression.
"I wanted to spare her this sight, and give her one more day of hope but you may be right... i am unsure"
She looks at the others questioningly.
Beagan fumbles around in his pockets. "I met this friendly necromancer in Korvosa once... I think I've got his business card around here somewhere..."
Unable to find anything, the gnome shrugs his shoulders and looks to Gudada for his thoughts.
The Varisian sighs. "False hope can created a deeper sorrow than honest loss. He obviously was trying to protect his family, that is no lie." Gudada scuffs his foot across the floor. "His wife will want to see him. You should probably say something about not letting the child see him until after the priests have prepared him." Looking up at the others with glistening eyes, "There was truly nothing uplifting about this situation."
