DM Davy Jones |
Before we go any further, we really need to know how many crew we have, how many crew we need to have, and the prices for the weapons and armor Galean didn't factor in.
You guys have the Player's Guide right? Of course you do!
And you noticed that I removed the baddies from the "Crew" spoiler a while ago didn't you (and maybe since have accidentally deleted it but why bring that up)? Of course you did!
However, as I realize you may not have taken notes (although since you're all clever players I bet you did) you have the Man's Promise, which a savvy group of players would name the DM Davy Jones Is the Bestest DM Ever! in return for loot, you are in a sailing ship (see page 25) which requires a crew of 20.
Your crew currently consists of:
Ambrose "Fishguts" Kroop
Tilly
Sandara Quinn
Rosie Cusswell
Crimson "Cog" Cogward
Samms Toppin
Giffer Tibbs
Ratline
Tilly
Badger
Yuki
Ayre
Galean
Nymph
Owlbear Harshorn
and two Rahadoumi sailors who I'm naming Samir and Keeran. They're nice people, if they view Sandara as a terrible influence on rational thought.
You're technically "short" 3 sailors from a full crew.
Yuki Okano |
Thanks for laying that out for us, DM. We'll have to recruit at least 3, but probably more like 10 would be better just in case we lose some.
Ok, so assuming we're spending the 2 plunder points on squibbing, 1000gp on the crew, and adding a 500gp broad rudder without selling any of the magical weapons, my math shows that we'll have 1778gp left over, which splits to 444.5 each.
We still need a new name for the ship. I vote for Unca Guppy.
Galean "Rafter" Santiago |
Heya guys, real sorry about the lack of posts lately, it's been approaching finals week in university, and I've barely had time at home for two weeks. I'll try to avoid having Robo-Galean showing up at least. Despite his superior combat skills.
I'll post a reply later today.
Again, really sorry.
Nymph |
Good luck with them Berryboy!
Nymph |
Merry Christmas everyone!
DM Davy Jones |
Indeed, ex post facto Merry Christmas from your DM! Note: as a belated gift Santa (who rewards all good children and heartless marauding pirates. Because this one year a pirate built his own sleigh and stole the entire batch of plum puddings he was giving out which is why we have fruitcake. But enough about history!) has dropped a broad rudder off at your ship. Enjoy, and Happy New Year!
DM Davy Jones |
Happy New Year!
One free rum ration on DM Davy Jones, and a reminder that I definitely will not be checking the boards this evening/tomorrow.
You have already guessed that though I'm sure.
Nymph |
Happy New year!
Galean "Rafter" Santiago |
I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays, and welcome to 2016! I was a bit busy the last week, and the night I found some time to post, the electricity was down. Yay. I'll be picking up some speed, and I'll be back to normal and keeping track of all the glorious loot we get from that cave!
Yarrr!
Yuki Okano |
Do any of you have further suggestions about the ship name? It'll be quicker and easier to discuss it here, I think.
Yuki Okano |
Other Potential Names:
Besmara's Revenge or just The Revenge
Harrigan's Folly
Unca Guppy
I could probably think of more, but I'm currently fighting off a cold so it's hard to be creative.
Out of Galean's list, I like Calamitous Intent the most, but that's probably because it reminds me of Venture Bros.
Galean "Rafter" Santiago |
Yes, it was the Venture Bros.! I knew it was from something I'd seen just couldn't remember what. I really like Unca Guppy too, to be fair.
As for the figurehead, any ideas? I'd like some sort of 'Besmara rises from the deeps' figurehead.
Nymph |
We already got a Unca Guppy, though I don't think he'd mind the honor :3
Yuki Okano |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Well, there's two votes for The Calamitous Intent, so let's go with that if there aren't any objections or further suggestions.
As for the masthead, I'm fine with Besmara rising from the depths, maybe make her look a little like one of Nymph's girlfriends to keep her happy.
Nymph |
Best captain ever!
Nymph |
Hmm, might need to ask Sandara about the whole Besmara thing then, being that she's a priestess and all (the only reason I didn't suggest Yuki as the figure was because you're the captain so that might have come across as a wee bit egotistical :3)
Yuki Okano |
Yeah, that would be bad luck to put the captain on her own ship, I think. I think you're right, we should clear it with Sandara first before we put someone else's face on Besmara.
DM Davy Jones |
I just paid my taxes, something that drives me into a frothing rage, so in honor of the American government's annual ritual of theft please multiply your cash on hand by 1.25!
Galean "Rafter" Santiago |
*puts on money-counting cap*
According to my calculations, and being reasonable, having paid for the upgrade before the increase, we have 1597 gold doubloons and one that's bitten in half.
DM Davy Jones |
Attention penny pinchers: https://www.humblebundle.com/books/paizo-pathfinder-bundle
Nymph |
You can also gift the codes as well.
Nymph |
Okay I've let this go unsaid for awhile now, but why are we attacking and robbing the first random ship we see?
Yuki Okano |
We're pirates, they're a cargo ship. If you guys don't want to be pirates, then I believe we should stop playing the AP and move on to a homebrew version because I don't think this is going to work out as written.
Nymph |
We were pressganged onto a pirate ship and then wound up with a ship and crew of our own. I don't think anything's been presented thus far that says we have to be pirates.
Yuki Okano |
I believe the assumption of the AP was to make characters that would be fine being pirates even if it wasn't their first choice. I made Yuki to be a pirate. If half of the players don't want to be pirates, then that's going to be a significant issue.
No one said anything when we were getting the ship squibbed, although Galean did ask that we didn't rob anyone innocent, but he never replied to Yuki's negativeish answer, nor did Nymph say anything in his defense.
Nymph |
I'm sorry, I thought I had Nymph voice concerns about being a murderhobo pirate.
We could go after slavers or other outright evil targets.
It's just that the mood and personality change that's seems to have occurred is just so jarring.
Yuki Okano |
Yuki is planning on killing anyone, just stealing from them. Merchants are insured, so she justifies it as hurting a business, not a specific person. She wasn't planning on raiding villages, but she can't look weak in front of other pirates on such issues yet until a reputation has been made. I'm sorry if I haven't made this explicit in the gameplay thread, but no one has talked to her privately about it, just given her uncomfortable glances besides that one time with Galean.
Nymph |
That softens things a bit, and yeah, Nymph should have tried to talk with Yuki earlier.
But doing this still makes it highly likely we'll have to fight the other crew and that could turn ugly.
DM Davy Jones |
Ah, the joys of roleplaying.
So a couple of points: yes, you are pirates but that doesn't mean you have to (or are encouraged to) put people to the sword in return for their sugar cane, tobacco and spices.
There are other targets than average ships and innocent villages to attack and loot of course.
Second, there's actually a surprisingly little amount of out-and-out piracy in Skulls & Shackles.
I mean of course there's some piracy (it's the pirate AP!) but there's lots to do outside of raiding merchantmen.
Yuki Okano |
So, is everyone okay with taking down this ship and discussing different targets later? If not, this is would be a good time IC to discuss your concerns, although if they're going to try to set us on fire, we probably don't have a lot of time for talking.
Nymph |
*scratches head* I dunno.
And Nymph's asleep right now so I don't see much IC discussion going on.
Yuki Okano |
I wasn't aware you were still sleeping, Yuki would have ordered someone to wake the night watch people once we started closing on the ship.
Honestly, if you don't think you're going to help, we'll just leave. We're down to the bare minimum PC's, so anyone not participating ramps up the difficulty too much.
Nymph |
Yeah, I'm sorry. I just don't see this as something Nymph would be participating in.
Galean "Rafter" Santiago |
Galean is... gullible, if that helps. Having said that, he'll follow the captain's lead.
However, if the player may have a word, we'd become a laughing stock for all the pirates if we decide to go to a ship and then repent from our plundery ways. While pursuing a diplomatic route would lead to us becoming even more awesome!
But yeah, out of the three options, I'd go Talking->Plunder->Leaving.
