Grall motions you up and quickly moves ahead into the darkness.
I had good intentions....figures. Oh well, we do this the hard way :)Going to try and move up to just around the corner of the entrance to the mosaic room and ready an action to attack any other Gnolls that try to come out...

Zeladiel has not taken light but will want his loaded arrow enchanted every 50 minutes. Everyone should be messaged though, including Grall, in which case Zeladiel may have to discuss some of the finer points of keeping team members notified with him. :-)

Effects
- Mage Armour (Sajan, Zeladiel)
- Light (Linah).
Notes
- Excavated corridors are a bit over seven feet high, the other structures look higher.
- Note light rules. A light spell generates 20'of normal light and 20' of dim light (20% miss). Zeladiel doubles the later to 40'.
Spurred into action by Grall's charge and warning, Khalid and Sajan react quickest but can't see past the intersection.
You get to C, 22 and ready your attack. Gnolls are definately grouping beyond.
Nuveril and Linah react about the same time.
Effectively treating Grall's action as surprise round (or round 1 depending on how you want to look at it). Unless Khalid, Grall or Nuveril want to do something with their superior initiative we'll go to Linah's impulse. Thought about it a bit and frankly masking for three different vision sets for this dungeon is going to drive me nuts. I'll try and clarify but please play round what you can and can't see.
Map is HERE.

Sajan Krama Sumna |

Nuveril's keen vision? Are you joking or are we back to 'Halfling's have low-light vision'? As its in your notes looks like we are...
Sajan follows Grall to the best of his ability in the light (40 feet move).

Nuveril |

So we only have one light source and it's in the back. Guess that means we're back to concealment and miss chances due to dim light. Remind Nuveril again why we thought it was such a good idea to come through the cave? :P
Nuveril growls softly in frustration but cannot charge ahead into the darkness. "Bring forward the light," she hisses back to Linah, "or the gnoll will be fighting alone."
She'll delay until Linah moves forward.

Sajan Krama Sumna |

I should clarify, the ambiguous '40 feet move' above was to remind you of Sajan's movespeed, not to declare hes only using a move action. Hes using both and will stay at the edge of Khalid's light.

DM Dan E |

OK slight rejig, should have checked Khalid's orisons as well before posting the map so pretend Grall hasn't moved yet.
Khalid moves into the intersection, his newly cast light illuminating the area and showing an enraged Grall, his blade dripping with blood, standing over the headless body of a gnoll dressed in black (CA,23).
This basically illuminates everything currently shown on the map, with no visible enemies, so everyone else is free to move. Give me a destination for Sajan (he could go plant himself just round the corner from the entrance to the room (where I currently have Grall) with a double move, moving any further south will open up LOS to the room) and Nuveril. Grall might want to wait and see if Sajan's action prompts a change, I'll process his move and ready unless Sajan takes his place.

DM Dan E |

Sajan moves past Grall taking up position in the southern corridor and a little short of gaining line of sight to more of the mosaic room.
Hugging the wall, Grall then passes him taking up a readied position to the right hand side of the entrance.
So a move location for Nuveril, then Linah's action.

Impulse 11c
For Grall
A scimitar and shield wielding gnoll appears in the southern entry to the mosaic room, its black studded leather matching the downed gnoll.
It seems ready for combat but not at all prepared for an enraged gnoll barbarian, and you sweep aside its hasty parry, the reverse cut a deep slice to the ribs that leaves the warrior barely standing.
A second, similarly armed and armoured gnoll, also seemingly not yet aware what it is up against, slides past the first, gawping in confusion but thrusting hard with its scimitar. Extended against the first gnoll, your out of position to block and take a cut to the hip.
Scimitar vs Grall 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24 hit poss crit
1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Confirm? 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 confirmed
1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
This provokes so dropping it will avoid the hit.
To the rest of you, Grall seems to engage something in the doorway, scoring a hit by the yelping response. A second gnoll steps into the light, scoring a hit on the barbarian.
Zeladiel moves down (just spotting a third gnoll behind the others with his enhanced vision).
Which promptly moves past the other two, drawing its scimitar as it goes and taking up position in the corridor scimitar ready and shield up. Grall's two opponents are large, strong looking gnolls akin to the ones you fought in the guild hall in Kelmarane, but the third is bigger and wears a well maintained chain shirt.
It assesses the situation, clearly also surprised but reacting quickly.
It speaks seemingly to one of the others.
Mrits! Disengage and warn Tordah there are well-armed intruders in the temple! We will hold them here.
Two more gnolls move up through the other entrance to the room into the western corridor. Both wear chain shirts. One has a scimitar and shield, the other a big composite bow.
The former takes up position in front of its companion, readying its weapon while the second fires an arrow at Khalid, a well aimed shot that comes close to puncturing his leg but ends up cutting a long line along his thigh.
Composite Longbow vs Khalid 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 5 + 2 = 27 hit possible crit!

Nuveril |

And Sajan and Nuveril are plunged into dim light as the nearest light source moves around the corner. This fighting underground stinks. :P We've got to get our light sources planned out better next time. I think the gnoll in CD 222 is just in the edge of the dim light from Linah and we can't see Grall and the others at all.

DM Dan E |

And Sajan and Nuveril are plunged into dim light as the nearest light source moves around the corner.
As you say. The template is around Khalid so moving it up one and to the right, the gnoll in CD 222 will just be in darkness at least til Linah moves.
As Khalid moves into range against his target, the gnoll launches a cunning attack, alternating up and down cuts while using its shield aggresively to try and trap Khalid's scimitar down. The warrior clearly has experience fighting human opponents, and nearly manages a stinging hit to the inquisitor's ribs. Khalid's defensive stance serves him well though and he is just able to twist aside to the gnoll's evident frustration.
Scimitar vs Khalid 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 8 + 2 = 21 miss make base AC as 20? but a miss with the defensive
1d6 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 2 = 12
The warrior is evidently one of the Carrion King's strongest and its attack leaves it only a little bit off-balance. But that little is enough for Khalid to exploit, the inquisitor dashing left while the gnoll moves slightly forward, Tempest lashing out for the gnoll's unprotected neck. The attack is on target, the enchanted weapon delivering a particularly potent blast of cold. The gnoll takes a few more unsteady steps before collapsing (to the shock of its companion).
Unable to see the closest Gnoll, Sajan delays.
Grall is up then Sajan unless he wants to delay some more.

DM Dan E |

17s not a bad number to be fixed on. Idle question because Grall hits anyway but can you initiate reckless abandon on an AOO? I tended to look at it like power attack but the wording is not the same.
The first gnoll you wounded seems to react.
For Grall
The gnoll pays a heavy price for its hit, your attack leaving it badly wounded.
You attack again, a whirlwind of destruction, a downcut takes the first gnoll's right arm off at the elbow while you sink your teeth into the neck of the second, ripping out part of its windpipe. Both fall, the former fountaining blood from its stump, the later gurgling.
For the others.
Hack. Cry. Growl. Rip. Gurgle. It sounds like Grall is having more fun in the dark than you are.
Sajan is up although as above he might want to delay some more.

Nuveril |

Extremely unhappy about once again being at the mercy of fickle magic, Nuveril withdraws into the lit corridor. "You want to let the gnoll fight and die alone?" she growls at the light-carriers. "Fine by me! But I did not come down here to be cut down in the darkness by foes I cannot see." She takes up a position next to Khalid and clashes her weapons together, waiting for the gnoll to charge. "You and the gnoll wet your blades, while I have not yet been allowed to strike a blow in this fight," she complains. Move to BY 222; ready an attack if a gnoll comes in range 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17 damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Nuveril |

She wasn't going to hit with a 17 anyway. Let him take his shots. It's about time some blood gets spilled around Nuveril, even if it's her own. I suppose she could have gone total defense and raised her AC to 27 if I'd paid attention to what weapon the gnoll was wielding.

"I am on my way!" Linah calls back to Nuveril with a strained voice. Shame starts to creep up her spine at the halfing's words, because she stopped to equip her shield and let her companions fight in the dark. She takes a few steps forward to give light to Sajan and Zeladriel then starts to chant and incantation. A flaming replica of her scimitar appears behind the gnoll with a bow and starts slashing at the creature to distract it from firing more arrows at Khalid.
"They are sending for a scout to warn the others!" Linah warns the rest of the group. (who by the way doesn't speak Gnoll?)

Sajan Krama Sumna |

Ironically, Sajan the gnoll expert doesn't speak Gnoll. I'll correct it later at some point but my skill points are precious.
Patience is a virtue. Sajan reminds himself, as Nuveril's unfortunately timed withdrawal drives the adage home to himself. He steps forward, beginning his precise assault on the Gnoll before him by cautiously initiating a grapple, unsure of his opponents capabilities and wondering whether its worth taking one alive to question it.
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28 CMB to Grapple (Defensive Fighting, +3 AC/CMD)

If we want one alive, Linah, Khalid, speak now! he says as he expertly moves in and grabs one of the Gnoll's arms easily and wrestles it into a useless position.

DM Dan E |

Nuveril readies her weapon beside Khalid while Linah re-positions, revealing a bloody Grall and two fallen gnolls.
The appearance of her flaming scimitar surprises the bow wielder, who takes a cut to the arm.
Sajan's advance prompts an attack from the last gnoll visible in the southern corridor. This one too seems to have a level of skill, but the monk manages to move inside of a sweep of the gnoll's fine blade, stepping in close to land his grab. Grappled.
