DM Cobalt's Unshackled City

Game Master Craig Mercer

Our heroes are based in Cauldron, the northernmost city in Varisia. There they try to survive missions for the city, intriques, and maybe even save the world... or maybe not.

Welcome heroes.
Here is where we iron out the characters, get everyone on the same page, and engage in OOC discussions.

I'm looking at having you arrive in Riddleport (that hive of villany) and having to make the initial journey up to Cauldron. I'm thinking that you served as hired muscle for a ship whose captian was afraid of piracy. The trip was uneventful, and adventure awaits.

Thanks for the selection
timezone:Canadian central (not sure if you wanted to know)
how are we doing hp per lvl avg, roll, just curious.

DM:
Email address if you need to contact: jonas.wareagle@live.com If any changes are needed on Rogar please tell :)

At 3rd level, I'm going to have you guys roll for HP with a modified roll.
D6 HD would be 3+1d3
D8 HD would be 4+1d4
D10 HD would be 5+1d5

That should take care of HP nicely.

Rogar Ungart:
By the way, you've got a violation of my requests in your character. I asked that no stats be dropped, except by racial drops. You have a non-racial stat below 10, your Int. Could you fix that please?

Grand Lodge

Male Dwarf Druid2

DM:
Done brought his int up to 10 and lowered dex to 10 to balance it out

Thanks Rogar. That will work.

Thank you for the acceptance. I am honestly not sure what my Time Zone is, I'm in Afghanistan which is (I believe +1230 hours from Central US time).

I am thinking of taking the Ecclectic Feat (APG), and need one more, but I can't think of anything. Also need one more Trait, and agian, nothing is really standing out. Any suggestions.

Grand Lodge

Male Dwarf Druid2

What type of cleric are you aiming for?

Shadow Lodge

Well, I was hoping to flush it out a bit more with the other players. Right now, looking at a mix between a leader/battle priest. I'm thinking I'm going to bump Bluff and Perception with the Feat. Everything I see I want, though, I don't qualify for yet. . . :(

I'm also kind of tired of the normal stuff (Combat Casting, Selective Improved Extra Channeling).

Toughness is nice on any character :)

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

Thanks for the invite to the game! It sounds like it'll be a lot of fun.

If anyone would like to have known Alanaes prior to adventuring together, please feel free to drop some ideas on me. Alanaes could've met just about anyone while he was traveling Varisia searching for temples and shrines to Irori.

Grand Lodge

Male Dwarf Druid2

Rogar would probably not have known anyone prior to the adventure he may have met them but he does not make friends easy and makes most actions for his own benefit. Though he can be friendly you must befriend him first which most people do not. Rogar goes by a false last name to hide his heritage I have yet to come up with what it is Suggestions?

Are there any Feats that you know of that grant more skill points? If not, I will go with Selective Channeling.

I am fine working out a background with you Alanaes (or anyone). I want to make mine a little less dreary, also.

Some things my character is looking to accomplish (long term) is to institute the knighthood, to find peace, and I want him to establish a family and an anchor to the world, to destroy Evil outsiders and less so, Undead. He has realized he is sliding towards that edge, and needs to regain some humanity, but also to get some more experience, wisdom, and influence, so joining a party would be well within reason.

<Edit> Updated character a little. I need another Trait and to look at my gear again, and I am ready to go.

Grand Lodge

Male Dwarf Druid2

I find it strange that the druid has the most hp.

I think I am done. Do you mind checking out my gear, and Traits, just to make sure you are good with them? Nothing broken or wierd (I think), just not sure what all you are allowing or not. Some gear I got from the Adventure's Armory (for flavor), or other books.

I'm putting things into HeroLab to see how they work out.
With that in mind, Soth_Loren, I've got a few questions about you character.

Soth-Loren:
1)What did you take that uses up your second domain and gives you the Knowledge boost?
2) What is your second Cosmopolitian skill pick?
3) Where did you find the Force of Good trait?
4) 10 holy symbols? Why that many?
5) What ethnicity are you? Mendev doesn't really have one.

HP , AC , CMD , Fort +, Ref +, Will +, Init +

Reporting for duty.

1d5 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

I'm looking for ways to tie Darian into the setting and the party more. I'm unfamiliar with the area and don't want to shoehorn myself into anyone else's backstory, but I'm willing to take suggestions.

Anyone want to be friends with a cynical mercenary philosopher?

1.) The Mendevian Priest Archtype from Inner Sea Magic, pg 36. It trades 1 Domain for the Knowledge vs Demonic things, gets a bonus Feat at 4th and 8th, and Heavy Armor.

2.) Dang, I'll add that. I took Bluff and Perception

3.) PathFinder Society guide, pg 14.

4.) Imagry and a lot of money to waste. :)

(I also didn't calculate how much my gear actually cost, but it should be much less than 1,000 GP, and I was just going to donate the extra to the poor or something)

And on to Darian Castilian on HeroLab, and the questions he provokes.

Darian:
1) Neither trait works. Adopted means that you were adopted by another race, and can take one of their racial traits as one of yours. Which trait do you choose?
And I can't locate the other trait at all. Where did you find it?
2) You either have 2 more skill points or 2 more HP for favored class. Which do you want?
3) What is your alignment? What is your ethnicity?
4)You still have 1195 GP left. Do you want to buy better armor? Magic?
5)And why is sheild listed when you use 2 handed weapons? And do you have any ranged weapons?

Soth-Loren, sad to say, I don't have any Pathfinders Society Guide.
I'll have to look into getting it.

Oh yes, minor point, but what is your ethnicity?

Shadow Lodge

Sorry, I mean the PFS Organized Play Guide. It's Free HERE I don't mind changing it though.

I was thinking human (either Mendevian or Ustalavian), but honestly it doesn't matter too much to me.

Somethings I was curious about.
Darian, shouldn't your base HP be 24 (before the favored class bonus if you go that way)?

How much GP do we get? I though 1,000, but you said that Darian gets 1,195 more? Was that suppossed to be 2,000, or Darian still has 195 left?

Darian, I don't mind being your friend in the game. We are sort of similar just with different means of getting to that outlook, (though Int and Wis 10 make me wonder about philosopher. :) )

Rogar, just curious, you can spontaniously cast Summon Nature's Ally, so why prep it?

HP , AC , CMD , Fort +, Ref +, Will +, Init +

Spoiler:

1) Yeah, made a mistake on that. I'm looking at new traits now. I usually like to pick traits based on background stuff, but because I don't have much to go on for Darian I'm having trouble deciding.

2) Actually I think I'm going to go with the bonus to CMD vs 2 maneuvers. Trip and Sunder I think.

3) I'm thinking Lawful Good, actually. I have no idea what his ethnicity is. I don't think he knows either.

4) I'm not quite done with my equipment yet. I'll probably spend the extra on utility items and a cloak of resistance.

5) Backup. If I need to go defensive or I lose my sword the shield will come out. Never hurts to be prepared. And yeah, I have rangede weapons. They're listed in the combat section. I had forgotten to add them to my equipment cost list.

Grand Lodge

Male Dwarf Druid2

forgot druids could do that :) and how much did we get for starting gear not sure if I spent it all.

Shadow Lodge

Let them Come is from the Faction Guide (I think), Dwarven 9th Battalion. It basically lets you add the Brace Quality to any 2 Handed Weapon.

It's a Feat, not a Trait, and it does require a TPA of 25 (which is fairly high for a 2nd level non-Dwarf). That's sort of like a general in a nations army level of fame.

(TPA is Total Prestige Awards, sort of a Faction fame.)

Like I said, it was a mistake. I had one tab open to feats and another to traits and got them mixed up. It's no longer there.

Curious as to when we are starting

A few quick answers for some questions.

1) Starting money is full normal starting money, plus 1000 gp.
So, for fighters it is 1300 gp.
Clerics get 1240 gp.
Druids start with 1120 gp.
Monks start with 1060 gp.

2) We will start when I hear from everyone, or when it appears that everyone who is going to play has shown up.
It' the weekend, so I'll cut a little slack, but I hope to hear from everyone soon.

Soth-Loren:
To answer your questions, yes, you can have Force for good. I just didn't know where it came from.
I'll make your ethnicity Taldan, if you don't mind.

Darian:
Putting your character together, you really overspent on the gear.
1) That composite shortbow costs 375 to get it to where the damage sits, and you forgot to buy arrows.
2) Right now, you have 209 gp (and change) left, and I could not buy the Cloak of Resistance for you or the Elixer of Swimming.

Rogar:
Putting your charcater together, you've overspent. To make your shield a +1 magic shield is more expensive that you calculated. So you do not have a +1 wooden heavy shield, and you have 780 (and change) gp left.
Also, your favored class bonuses aren't chosen. Either you have 2 more skill points to use, or 2 more HP. Which would you like?

Grand Lodge

Male Dwarf Druid2

DM:
Already had my favored class bonus his hp is 25 without. will fix his gear sheet up :)

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

Just letting you know this is Dukeruckley. I saw in the recruitment thread that you were still waiting on me to respond... I'm here! I actually posted a while ago (see above).

Anyway, I haven't had time to read everyone's post yet today, I'll catch up tomorrow. But I'm ready to start whenever.

You should know that I'll be light on posts during weekends and holidays, but otherwise I should be able to get at least one post in a day.

Sorry Alanaes, I missed you.

Alanaes:
You have 2 too many skill points.
You get 4 per level as a monk, 1 per level as a Human, 0 per level for Int, and 0 per level from Favored Class (you took HP.
Please adjust you skills.
Other than that, have you considered getting a +1 Cloak of Resistance or a +1 Bracer of Armor?

Grand Lodge

Male Dwarf Druid2

Just thought I'd let yall know I am currently recruiting for two of my own homebrew campaigns as well if anyone is interested or has the time I would love it if you posted an application Her Dark Majesty Trilogy part 1: Where The Fallen Jarls Sleep , Pool of Radiance

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

Oops, forgot to purchase equipment! Also, the additional two skills is because I had originally had Alanaes at 12 Int, but change it later and forgot to adjust... Good catch!

Alanaes will buy +1 Bracers of Armor and some mundane equipment.

HP , AC , CMD , Fort +, Ref +, Will +, Init +

Equipment list updated. I must have misread the starting cash. Pretty sure my math is accurate now.

Is there a trait that grants Acrobatics as a class skill?

Darian Castilan wrote:

Almost, I have you at 100 GP and change.

Also, have you looked at Bellis Log Roller trait from Andoran?

Pick up a nice wand of some 1st level spell you can use. CLW always seems to be a favorite. You might have to drop the healers kit, or something else, as I have you at 728 gp and change.

Shadow Lodge

If DM Cobalt will allow it, I should have extra money I could give you (or loan you in aexchange for a future buffing/healing if that makes you feel better). I should easily have around 500 gp I was just going to give away to charity.

Beckett wrote:

I will allow it, as you are supposed to have had some adventures together.

And you've got 634 GP left Beckett.

Shadow Lodge

Will we be on missions/adventures where I would reasonably by a horse and wagon? If so, I'd like to buy one. Other than that, I don't mind if anyone needs extra moneys. I'm just not sure what sort of adventures you have in mind, or really much of the location.

If it's okay with you, I will also buy:
Wagon (gypsy style for travel and sleeping) 35 gp
Mule (x2) 16 gp
Feed (x2 weeks) 7 sp
Rowboat 50 gp
Cleric's Vestments 5gp
Cold Weather Outfit 8gp
Everburning Silver Holy Symbol on a string 135gp
Donation/Tithing 150 gp

(-392 gp, 7sp = 234gp)
I want to keep 1pp, 10gp, 10sp, and 10cp, on me, so that leaves 213gp and change. Everyone, feel free.

While I don't mind you having a wagon and horse (and a rowboat), I wasn't planning on having too much travel as a campaign. I am planning to base you out of the city of Cauldron.

I was planning to have you start by arriving in the city of Riddleport via sea, and having you travel to Cauldron to get a feel for the lands.

Edit: Looking around, the wagon shown is just a basic wagon. To get to the level of gypsy wagon, I looked at what the item cost for Jade Regent (since they have caravans there). Two horses, harrness and tack, and the wagon prices out to 500 gp (the two heavy horses counting as 400 of the gp).

hp 25 | AC 13 | T 13 | FF 10 | CMD 14 | F +2 | R +4 | W +4 | Init +5 | Per +6 |

Here is Terra's background. I will add the crunch into her Profile later tonight after work. Background is pretty simple so I might add more to it as I think of more Ideas before we start. Feel free to ask questions to get my brain working. :)

Unless She knows and is traveling with one of the more fighter type PCs before this game starts, I might swap the wand of enlarge person for either a different wand or alot of scrolls and spells in the spell book. Being alone with a wand of Enlarge for a wizard is pointless.

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

DM, if it's alright with you, I've made a few quick changes to my character. I dropped CON down to 10 and raised DEX up to 14. That puts my HP at 21/21 and drops my fort save, but it raises my AC, CMD, and reflex a bit. It also gives me a few options down the line for feats that I might consider.

If there's any problem with this, I'll revert it back.

HP , AC , CMD , Fort +, Ref +, Will +, Init +
DM Cobalt wrote:

I don't see that on the SRD trait database, so no. What's it do?

EDIT: Found it. No, that's not quite what I want. I want it to be a Class skill. Most skill granting traits are +1 and makes it Class, for a total of a +4 bonus. Log Roller is just a +1. Mathematically it's just not worth it.

Not a problem, I don't need one. I just do not know much about what you have planned. Is the rest of the stuff okay (cleric vestments down)?

Grand Lodge

Added a cure light wand removed the healers kit have 28gp leftover to umm... give to charity?

And more answers!

Terra, you will be part of a group with fighters, and not alone.

Alaneas, no problem right now, as we are still in the set-up time. But I am still waiting to see how you fix your over-points on skills problem (2 points over).

Darian, sorry, but that was all I found off-hand. I'll keep looking.

All the rest of the stuff is OK, and you might want to keep some money to pay for things later on.

Rogar, I got your change. You might want to keep the cash as living expenses, not everything has to be spent.

And,as a general note to everyone, I'll wait until tomorrow evening to here from our missing person, and then we start (be he here or not).

DM Cobalt:
I don't mean to be overly forward, but I would love to get into a Shackled City game. If you need another player, I am so eager to get into the game.

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

It's fixed. I had actually fixed the total bonus but hadn't changed it to say 1 rank instead of 2... So the total numbers were correct but the breakdown wasn't. Should be okay now.

On a slightly more disappointing note, I won't have much access to the Internet until next Sunday, unfortunately. So I won't be able to take part until then. Sorry about that...

Grand Lodge

Male Dwarf Druid2

done all the fixes please double check pretty sure I'm good now though.

Ok I changed the campaign trait. I believe everything else is OK. Thanks for the invite :)

Geoff, your skills don't seem to add up to me (I'm using HeroLab). Could you please post them as what you put your skill points in, and not as totals for me? Thanks.
