DM Carbide |
I'll be traveling this weekend, and packing tomorrow. Posting will be sparse at best, but I should be back Monday. That will give our new member a chance to finish up, and hopefully I can get us back to a reasonable pace after that.
DM Carbide |
Waiting on the resolution of some questions about Cora.
DM Carbide |
Apologies; I've had a rough week at work and dealing with family stuff.
ETA: This is my 30,000th post! Maybe I should do more with it than an apology. Machi-e, I'm not seeing a character profile for you--can you get that set up?
Cora, on further consideration your character is fine as is. I'll get things started momentarily....
Cora Soutil |
OK. Thanks, DM. Congrats on your tenure here. I'm but a wee babe compared to 30,000 posts.
Let's say Arien invites Cora along when the group goes to visit Machi-e. That puts us all in the same place for intros.
Machi-e |
I'll get a Machi-e profile up quite soon--it's been a heck of two days at work. Should calm down tomorrow. :)
DM Carbide |
Unfortunately, that will be just in time for me to be on the road--I have a workshop Thursday and Friday, and will be flying out tomorrow morning. O'Hare charges for wifi, last I checked, but I may have some time tomorrow evening.
DM Carbide |
So my laptop battery died while I was out of town, and I haven't gotten a replacement yet. Will try to get something up tomorrow night.
Machi-e |
I will be on vacation (but with wi-fi) in Costa Rica from 7/2-7/14. I will probably have a few days where I won't be able to post. Bot me as needed!
DM Carbide |
I'm going to be out camping for a couple of weeks, starting Friday night, and I expect to be spending evenings until then getting ready. Although I'll have limited internet access I'm unlikely to be able to post much before August 12, so let's plan on reconvening then.
DM Carbide |
Back from my travels, and slowly recovering.
DM Carbide |
Cora, as I read the description of the Night Hunter ability, it only applies against enemies who lack darkvision. Is that the case?
Cora Soutil |
I have some OOC questions about Dominion/Dark Tapestry knowledge.
To know about the Outer Gods or the Great Old Ones would be Kn:Planes, right? They're Outsiders.
Then to know about each specific type of Dominion servitor race would depend on their nature? Neh thalggu or deh nolo are aberrations (Kn:Dungeoneering), worms that walk are vermin (same), shoggoths are oozes (same again), and neshmaal and denizens of Leng are outsiders (Planes again).
So that would give you information about each specific Dominion race.
But knowing about the planets is Kn:Arcana, right? Although the rules say Kn: Geography is used for astronomy, I don't think anybody pays attention to that. So to know about Aucturn would be Arcana?
My question, then, would be what would give someone the ability to put all those things together? Kn:Religion should let you have a general knowledge of the beliefs of followers of Cthulhu or Dagon or whoever, but would it also let you identify neh thalggu and worms that walk and denizens of leng- all otherwise unrelated species- as often grouped together under the umbrella of the Dominion or the cults of the Old Ones?
Would you have to have Religion and Arcana to know that the fabled residents of Aucturn are said to have a relationship with the Old Ones and the Dominion?
Would you have to have Arcana and Planes to know that Aucturn is possibly a nascent GOO and know what that means?
DM Carbide |
The Great Old Ones aren't outsiders, AFAICT. All the ones I looked up on the wiki were listed as aberrations.
Cora Soutil |
Huh. Sorry, I guess I didn't actually look up the GOO bestiary entries. Bokrug is a magical beast but all the rest of the GOO are aberrations. Is that the same for the GOO's bosses, the Elder Gods (Yog-Sothoth, Nyarlathotep, etc.)? They're deities, not creatures, so I don't think they get bestiary entries.
Will Kn: Dungeoneering get the answers to all those questions about who or what is related to the Dominion, even about Aucturn or Denizens of Leng?
DM Carbide |
I'll be traveling this weekend (funeral tomorrow, wedding Saturday), and then on Monday I leave for a workshop that'll run Tuesday-Thursday.
DM Carbide |
A combination of computer problems and cooking kept me from updating this evening. I'll try to get something up tomorrow.
DM Carbide |
Traveling yesterday, and then this morning we realized that the drum roll-like sound we heard last night was the furnace dying. It's been a day.
DM Carbide |
I have a bunch of people over right now, and will be unlikely to be able to post until tomorrow evening.
DM Carbide |
I've updated the map--please place yourselves in the front row.
DM Carbide |
Apologies for slowness of posting; I've got a major cold, and have been distracted. I have the new map set up, but haven't had a chance to post the first round.
DM Carbide |
As I see it, the drake is going to get an AoO on Cora. It's got a 10' reach on its attacks, and there's nothing about falling out of a threatened area that precludes an AoO. Before I roll the attack, though, we can discuss.
Cora Soutil |
Oof. Acrobatics check to avoid AoO?
Acro: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14
Damn. I don't know what a drake's CMD is, but it's probably higher than 14.
Unless maybe I could make a Fly check to get a bonus to the check?
Fly: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
Just desperately throwing out dice to try to not get killed.
DM Carbide |
Hey, Nezos got a Crit-mas present from the dice module!
DM Carbide |
To clarify: are you telling the group that you have the books? Because at this point no one knows except you.
DM Carbide |
Incidentally, one other thing to consider: the dragon asked about five books, and if they're the ones from the cave you know that four of them are astronomy texts.
Cora Soutil |
Yeah, I don't think there's any benefit to the PCs to hold back that information. We were in our rights to keep whatever was in the cave (I think).
Rowane |
Sorry for the lack of posting. 2020 started with a death in the family and I did not have much time for gaming. But, I should be back to full strength.
Should have a full post up in the next few hours.
DM Carbide |
My condolences. I hope you're doing OK.
DM Carbide |
No chance to get on my computer this evening to post. Also, waiting to give Rowane a chance to respond to the offer.
Cora Soutil |
OK, so the magic items mentioned in the auction were:
oil of keen edge x2
potion of undetectable alignment
potion of protection from acid
potion of protection from fire
scroll of campfire wall
scroll of excruciating deformation
scroll of haunting mists
scroll of magic circle against chaos
Depending on what they mean, exactly, it could also include:
Book of extended summoning - Machi-e
Flesh golem manual - it'd be cool to build a golem but I doubt we have the time or money
Manual of war - Nezos
Hunclay's spellbooks - Machi-e
Nezos got the bastard sword (I'm assuming it's a +1, flaming).
Should Rowane or Machi-e take the ring? Cora's an archer and already has an OK AC.
DM Carbide |
The sword is indeed +1 flaming.
Machi-e |
I'm flattered, but really, I don't think Machi-e has taken a single hit during melee. We'll see what Rowane says. :)
Rowane |
My AC is ok, besides I can always cast shield of faith if needed. I do not plan on being too close to the action.
Is there any money left to be divided up. Maybe to purchase other items, like enhancements?
Machi-e |
ok, ok, I'll take the ring, you altruistic folks! If Nezos gets laid low though, I'll suggest he gets all the magic. :)
DM Carbide |
Let me know when you're ready to go looking for bones.
