DM-Camris' Star Wars - The Covenant of Shadows (Inactive)

Game Master Camris

Six people find themselves deep in the outer rim with nothing but blank memories, looted clothing, a stolen ship and more questions than all put together.

"Come on, let's take this thing out!" Six puts his shoulder into it as he sends volleys of plasma at the Eweb.

Target the Eweb and vehicle (2x2 squares), avoid allies' squares
Attack (Brace): 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (2) + 9 - 2 = 9 <--- 8(
Damage: 4d8 + 3 ⇒ (5, 1, 4, 6) + 3 = 19 <-- 1/2 damage on miss

In rapid succession;
Jeriko misses the last merc with his shot before running along the rooftop trying to get an angle on the armored car.
Bolt nails the last merc for 14 with his shot.
Jerrn slashes the last merc’s back for 11.
Baniss runs along the rooftop before shooting the last merc for 17.
Juce sprays the armored care with autofire, but it continues moving.
Desh shakes off the damage he took before jamming his bayonet and forward barrel through the last merc’s armor and body (something Czerka corp has sworn would be impossible!) for 52! points of damage.
Six sprays the armored car with autofire as well, taking chucks out of the armor.

Needless to say, the last merc is thouroughly dead as he slides off Desh’s bayonet.
The armored car accelerates away as the gunner sprays away wildly with his sparking and damaged e-web.
It roars around a corner and suddenly silence descends on the alleyway.

A half dozen bodies litter the ground, as well as the burning wreckage of more than two dozen Black Flag ganger swoop bikes.
The beaten and shot up Trandoshan opens one bleary eye, focuses on you, and gives a groan of utter disgust as he falls unconscious again.

The battle is over.

Bolt will strip the sniper's body if everything useful or valuable, particularly interested in his weapons, scope, armour and comlink equipment. And Credit Chip of course.
The he will go looking for the other sniper to do the same.

"Come Baniss, no point leaving this gear for the Jawas (filthy scum that they are!)"

Camris:
On that initial Eweb fire, you said it was "indirect fire." Was that the damage resulting from a miss? Six has Evasion, so the normal area damage would be halved, and miss damage is ignored. I wasn't sure how the roll landed, so I wanted to double-check. Thanks.

"I hope this green-skin was worth it. He was almost as much trouble as the rest of the gang. Seems overkill for a mechanic."

Six rummages through the fallen opponents' gear, looking for anything of tactical or intrinsic value.

The armored vehicle speeds away just as Jeriko was readying himself to leap on top of it. His unbandaged lekku twitches a few times as he watches the vehicle retreat around the bend, then he turns his attention to the destruction his companions visited upon the street below.

He mutters to himself, "Ah well. Maybe next time," before he goes searching for the roof access and a more typical descent down to the street below. As he looks about, he'll offer over the coms, "So is everybody we want in one piece in one piece or what? Though with Doc here, I'm sure several pieces would still be manageable, right Doc?"

Over the comms Baniss responds "Right, it shouldn't be a problem"Then his head starts to throb as the adrenaline leaves his system and he remembers the the blast that scorched his own scalp. Hmm better take care of that first He takes a medpac from his utility belt and attempts to apply some syntheskin. Treat Injury -5 for treating self: 1d20 + 18 - 5 ⇒ (12) + 18 - 5 = 25 Baniss regains 16 Hp "Is anyone else hurt? Maybe we should head to my surgery before we go anywhere else?" He says into the comm before heading to his rope and climbing down the wall Taking ten

Desh quickly scans the suddenly-silent street as he tries to pull his blaster's barrel from the torso of his fallen opponent. He mutters a curse as he realizes it's stuck either on the armor or one of the man's ribs.

Getting frustrated, he plants a boot on the dead man's shoulder as he gives the stuck-blaster a violent wrench upwards. With a wet crunch, it comes free. "Idiot... I told you to put your weapon down. Speaking of which..."

He bends down and slides the merc's blaster from his dead hands, switching his vibrobayonette to its barrel after giving it a cursory wipe-down. "Been lookin' for one'a these."

As he tosses his old pulse-wave away, he picks up the trando, hefting him over one shoulder. "We should clear out. Jeriko, you said something about this business with our ganger here being strange?"

Desh is pretty beat up and could use some patching up.

Trailing the retreating vehicle through his scope Juce stares after it for a while, assuring himself that it's not just circling round them to strafe them from behind. When it's apparent that it's gone he goes over to the mercs dropped near the trandoshian and starts rummaging through their pockets. "What do you mean; strange?" he asks absentmindedly as Desh picks up the prisoner.

Im having a hard time finding the post now, but I remembered Jeroko saying something before this combat started that indicated there was something fishy about how this whole bounty was going down. Just didn't want his observation to get overlooked - especially considering how it might really be helpful info. Jeriko, you remember that?

retired

I do indeed! Thanks for the lead-in ;)

"Well no, not this particular business here with this beat-up sorry lookin' trando. This was all pretty straight forward as far as gun fights go. It's the rendezvous with Motta that has me concerned. Like I'd mentioned before all the blaster bolts started flying, Motta's a pompous, vain showman. It's not that sleemo's style to have a bounty exchange in the middle of nowhere.

Treat Injury: First aid on Desh: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (19) + 18 = 37
Baniss makes his way across the street to Desh and the others. He sees how banged up Desh is and cringes. "I've seen a lot of people die after taking that much blaster fire, you must be some kind of tough Desh. Mind if I try to patch you up?" he says holding out a Medpac. With Desh's consent Baniss applies some Bacta salve and bandages to his left arm and copious amounts of Syntheskin up and down his left side.

"'Cor, that was a fun time and a half. Ah can't seem to call on the Force a'tall, but Ah still got the swing in the saber. So, what now?" Jerrn is slightly injured, but not life-threateningly so.

"Good for us that they weren't very good shots. Kinda hard to miss Desh, though. Still, that E-web got a little closer than I'd like."

Poking a finger through a newly scorched hole in his pantsleg, Six traces it to it's mate on the back. Confused, he checks his leg for wounds, finding only intact flesh.

"sunuva... Okay, now what? After all of this, I doubt we can just march up to Motta and expect to come back with a bag of credits and whole hides - maybe we set up a new meet?"

"Even before all this mess, I doubt we'd have left the exchange with credits or our skins, Spikey. Somebody's up to somethin', and I don't think it's us. Well, we're not up to something yet."

He chuckles a bit then pauses a moment, "But, you know, getting shot at with you lot is much more enjoyable than swoops exploding beneath me, so I can't fault you for showing a guy a good time; imminent ambush or not."

Sorry I forgot to put in my post above Treat Injury 37 will heal Desh 28 Hp

Juce curses silently under his breath at Jeriko's assessment. "I knew this was too good to be true." he mutters sullenly as he rifles through the dead man's pockets.

"Can this be salvaged? he asks bluntly. "Whoever is looking for these raiders is clearly working through Motta's name. I wonder if Motta even knows about this. Maybe we should contact the slug directly?"

"We are gonna have to do that soon enough, Juce, anyway, right? We need to bunker down for a little while. With this trando."
The cathar scratches his mane.

Baniss's healing puts Desh at 68 hp... spitting distance of full.

Desh nods at the doc's work, "You know your stuff." He looks up, surveying the scene. "Seems you all do. If we make it through this business, we may have a job offer for you. I don't have a clue about the Hutt, though. Either we step up to get the bounty or we don't. But without it, I'm not sure how we're gonna get off this dust-rock."

"Why don't we just go see him? Bold as can be, just walk up and knock on his door? If he's had no hand in this bounty, maybe he can point us in the right direction or... well... maybe we could pay an unannounced visit. In the dark of night if you get my meaning. A resourceful group like this, I'm certain we could make it in and out again. If you get me to his computer hubs I can crack most any code written by a sentient being."

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Juce Koran:

Your electronic intercepts pops up a screen warning. They indicate Hutt security has been alerted. You calculate they'll be on scene in 2.21 minutes.

Jerrn:

In amidst the glow of victory, the Force moves through you briefly; you look around at your companions, and you wonder "Who's watching the bikes? In a town filled with Jawas?"

Looting the Sniper, you find...:

Knife
Sporting blaster pistol
Blaster rifle with improved targeting scope (+3 to hit)
Combat jumpsuit (+4 armor)
Comlink, encrypted
Electrobinoculars
Field kit
All Temperature Cloak
Liquid cable dispenser
Utility Belt
Credit chip with 400 credits
A season pass to “Kulrik Khan’s Pleasure Barge! Girls! Girls! Girls!”

Looting the commandoes, you find on each...:

Vibroblade
Combat Gloves
Blaster carbine
Sporting blaster pistol
Frag grenade
Combat Jumpsuit (+4 armor) (spattered with a great deal of fresh blood)
Stealth field generator, first generation, expended
Comlink, encrypted
Field kit
Mesh tape
Credit chip with 250 credit
350 in chips for various casinos in Mos Eisley

Looting the Heavy armor guys, you find on each...:

Combat Gloves
Vibro bayonet
Heavy blaster pistol
Heavy blaster rifle
1 explosive charge with timer
Battle armor (+8 armor, +2 equipment)
Comlink, encrypted
Electrobinoculars
Field kit
Credit chip with 350 credits

Interrupted in his looting by a soft *beep!* from his helmet Juce lights up the screen on his brace computer, tapping a few buttons he stares at the screen a few moments in silence. "HuttSec's been alerted. They'll be here in aprox 2.21 minutes. Are we staying for a meet and greet?" he says, quickly returning to his looting.

He'll grab a frag grenade, a stealth field generator, comlink, field kit, mesh tape and all the credits of one of the commandoes and all the explosive charges he can, how many were there?

"I'd rather make a hasty exit. Better to get some answers first then confront Motta than walk into this as blind as we currently are." He pauses briefly, struggling with something. A moment later the door to the building he was in opens, the rusted hinges having loosened and the twi'lek finishes, "Or not. Shooting is good too."

Baniss nods in way of reply. "Spent a lot of time patching soldiers during the Mandalorian wars." He pauses remembering that Juce said the Feeorin was a Mando. "No offence, I patched a few Mandos to. Then as Juce informs everyone of the coming Hutt security "2.21 minutes doesn't leave much time for deciding. I'll follow your lead.

"Humph. So, who's watchin' the bikes, eh?" Jerrn pauses a moment, then takes off toward the bikes at top speed, running like a bantha on fire.

Desh will grab a second vibrobayonette, switch out his pulse pistol for a heavy blaster pistol, and swipe the creds from one heavy commando (350cr), take the heavy blaster rifle, some combat gloves, a pair of electrobinoculars, the field kit, and the set of explosives for Juce (seeing Juce take some of the others). He drops the pistoil and rifle he came with.

Desh gives the doc an answering nod as he quickly scavenges the gear from the heavy commando that looks useful, taking Juce's lead and grabbing the explosives as well. "Well, two minutes is enough to get gone, I'd say. Anyone know a place to lay low while we figure out a plan? I'm guessign our ship is under surveillance now, so that's a no-go."

He scans the field one more time, making sure he's not missing anything, "Six, make sure to grab one of those carbines or two... as well as any stealth field generators you can find. Let's load them on the bikes and get the hell outta here!"

While the others are still grabbing items, he runs over and grabs the bike with the side-cart. "Use the sidecar for any gear too big to carry. One of you computer whiz's capable of leaving the Hutt a message on the 'net? 'We have the Trandoshan. Want to make a deal.' Hopefully that will buy us some time."

He then goes to get his own bike.

Jeriko will pick up one of their com units as soon as he gets street-side and begin eavesdropping on any transmissions. He'll also see if he can't find the other sniper's rifle (maybe it fell to the street?)

"Hei Desh! Can you carry the two heavies? Their armor would serve us well. I can carry the trando." Juce says when he finishes looting. Grabbing what he got he follows after Desh and Jerrn to the swoops.

Desh unceremoniously dumps one of the heavies in the sidecar and then tosses the second one across the back of his swoop. "So, seriously... we gotta move. Where can we lay low?"

"ehh.. Baniss's clinic is to obvious, my place is failry well out of sight but I'm afraid nothing gets past the Hutt. I don't know where Jeriko and Bolt are holed up but I think it's fair to say the Hutt knows where too..." Juce mutters, raking his brain for a suitable hide-out. "Hey Bolt..." he says, getting an idea. "Didn't you say you had a crashed freighter nearby? The Yellow Truck right? Does anyone know about it? It must be pretty well hidden to have escaped the Jawas and the Hutt's thugs."

"If the Jawas haven't taken The Yellow Truck away piece by piece, then I guess it would be a good place lie low for a while. It is half buried from the crash, you know. I guess that can be called 'well-hidden.',"

"I think that's our best bet, unless anyone else has a better suggestion.. ?"

Desh answers by firing up his swoop, his voice rumbling in over the comms, "To the yellow truck we go, with one stop at Baniss's place to pick up his stuff."

If there's obvious surveillance there, Desh will suggest they skip it and go straight for the busted up Yellow Truck thing.

Bolt shakes his head slowly, dust falling from his mane, "I was hoping to never see that heap again. It needs some repairs on the hull and the engines and the computers. And it needs parts on all of those. We had the transparisteel window fallout once - fortunately we were in atmosphere at the time... Maybe we can sell it for scrap and just by passenger tickets to get off this dirtbowl."

Looking forlornly at the ground, he scratches at his mane to shake more dust out.

"The Yellow Truck is just a place to reorganize for now. If its in that bad of shape, we'll definitely find a better ride somehow."

Jerrn's charge scatters the Jawas clustered around your bikes; they squeal in their high pitched voices while running, carrying bits and pieces of bike as they go.
It's only been 30 seconds since you charged too.

Inspecting the damage...Mechanic DC10:

One of the bikes is nothing but a skeleton, the others have minor damage, but can still be repaired to run in 60 seconds or less if a Mechanic check DC18 can be made.

Intelligence DC17:

An idea strikes you. Some of the Black Flag ganger bikes (though mostly shot or blown up) look like they might still run, if sliced properly.

Tactics DC13:

You think the only mercenary survivor who got any kind of look at his attackers was the E-web gunner; and he only saw Jerrn, Desh, Juce and Six. The others should be in the clear as far as APB descriptions would go.

"Jawas. Shoot one and seven more show up to loot the body."

Tactics 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23.

As Jerrn goes to work on one of the bikes, Desh scratches his head. "I'm fairly certain that gunner ID'd me, Juce, Six, and Jerrn. Y'all know this Hutt the best. Should we try to throw it off the trail or head straight to the Yellow Truck. The rest of you can go pick up Baniss's gear."

"Hmmm, I'll go with Baniss and Jeriko to pick up his things, then we'll meet by The Twi'lik! Twi'lik! Twi'lik! holovid store, so that then I can lead to way to The Truck"
He asks this as a question, scratching the fur on his chest as he does so.

Take 10 on Mechanics = 25
Intelligence 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20

Surveying the bikes Juce mutters a curse. "It will take a full minute to repair the sodden things, we'll be quicker slicing the gangers bikes. Come on!" He remarks as Jerrn starts tinkering with the bikes, turning on his heel.

Heading back to the cantina he goes directly to the bikes, ripping open the key box he fiddles with some wires and hooks up his brace computer.

Use Computer + equipment bonus from brace computer.1d20 + 15 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 15 + 2 = 26

"Plan sounds good."
Having the same idea as Juce, Baniss rushes over to the Gangers swoop bikes grabbing a familiar model. He tries to remember the factory "back door" log in and punches the code in. "Come on Jeriko, Bolt. Let's get out of here.

"Wait, Baniss, don't leave without me. Did you mean for Jeriko to hurry up, Baniss, or did you want both of us to jump on your bike?
And could you please stop revving it like that when I am asking you important matters? This is urgent, Baniss!"

Camris, was I able to find that 2nd sniper's rifle/pick up any com traffic off one of the downed commandos?

Jeriko's good at flying things, but not fixing them - so he'll stay out of the way and follow the group's lead.

"I say we make sure get our bike with the sidecar up and running, and steal the rest from the gangers. But we gotta do it quick... heat is comin' down on us fast."

"Ah've got this 'un going. Ah'll take it. Ah'm not so good with the computers and such."

Quickly you scatter through the shattered remains of the parked ganger swoop bikes. You find little success out front; the E-Web was very thorough trashing them. But around one of the side entrances you find some still working candidates.
Mechanics DC18 to "hot wire" one to operating for you.
With two of your bikes non-functional, you'll need two successes.

Jeriko:

You take a pass down the far alleyway where you saw the gun drop, but you only see some delicate scope pieces. Chances are what happened to your bikes happened to the dropped rifle also. There's no time to do a proper search in any case.

OK, what's the plan boys? Now that you're mobile again, where do you go?

Bolt will have grabbed all that was on the nearest sniper. All, that is, except what Baniss wants.
.
Let's hit the Truck to lie low and figure out what that Hutt is up to.

My understanding was that those of us we believe were identified by the surviving commandos would head directly for the Yellow Truck and those of us not ID'd would swing by Baniss' med center and then head for the downed heap in the middle of the wastes to meet the rest of the team.
