Ra-Khefer comes over to Max's stairway to see.
"Let me check this out." He said, tapping gently on the stairways and the wall with his axe.

Watcher: I think you may have missed my earlier question about healing the brand.
Cerastes, with his warhammer out in preparation to defend the searching dwarf, steps up at Lori's request.

![]() |

Sorry...Cerastes does not think that the brand can be healed by the magics he has available
A flight of steps gradually descends to the west down this passage. Halfway down the stairs, small holes and burrowed tunnels riddle what remains of the passage’s southern wall.
Earth and sand have spilled over the collapsed masonry, covering the stairs with dirt and rubble. Stone doors engraved with a golden scarab, its wings open beneath a golden sun block the far end of the stairs
Up to date map coming soon
Ra-Khefer thinks the walls are safe to pass

As if in answer to Lori's question there is a sudden movement of the sand and something large strikes at the Dwarf as he turns away from the wall.
This creature appears to be a large snake formed of earth and sand. A
slit seems to function as the creature’s mouth.

"Great Pharaoh's ghost!" Max nearly jumps out of his boots at the creature's appearance. He draws his whip, but seeing Khefer take a nasty bite, chants an odd little rhyme and lays hands upon the dwarf. "Iggu piggu fay, no death for you today"

Miss Lori |

Round 1 Lori laughs as the sand in the hallway rises up as giant snake. "I don't know what the hell this thing is, but finally I have something to shoot!" Lori says with a grin and raises her pistol before taking a shot at the sand serpent.
attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5
I assume I'm within 30 feet of this bugger so I hit touch AC just as reminder. What i don't know is if I'm firing into melee, if I am my attack roll is 4 less since I don't have the feat.

Max
It appears to be a sandling , a minor elemental creature native to the plane of Earth. It has the usual elemental traits and is most susceptible to bludgeoning weapons
BTW I'm not putting up a map for this..you are in a 10' x 30' stairway.Ra and Cerastes are essentially on top of the Sandling with Max and Lori behind them and Inferis at the back.

Sorry, busy couple of days. Watcher: Would you mind putting what knowledge skill helps us with info on any particular creature when we encounter it? Not sure if mine apply here or not.
Cerastes is quick to react but hesitates momentarily because of the things form. Max's words seem to break through his reverie as he looks from his warhammer to the serpent before smashing the heavy metal weapon down on the snake.
Warhammer smash: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23

Whoooo, ouch! The big man has a BIG debut :)

Unfortunately being an elemental creature it is immune to criticals...something depressingly familiar to those of us in Legacy of Fire isn't it guys
The strike certainly gets the beasts attention and it strikes back at Cerastes
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Damage 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Cerastes is on 0HP and is staggered.

Warhammer smash: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20

Max looks for an opening. When Cerastes falls, he sees it. The halfling twirls his whip in a spiral at the creature, kicking up a fan of sand and grit in it's serpentine face.
Unfortunately, I don't think we can crit the thing. I think it can be blinded however.
Max is spending a point of Archaeologist Luck and making a Dirty Trick: Blind combat maneuver from 10' away.
Dirty Trick: Blind: 1d20 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (15) - 1 + 1 = 15

Miss Lori |

Round 2 Lori curses as she misses the blasted thing. She swiftly reloads her pistol and takes aim at the great beast again. She lets out a long sigh to calm her shaking hand before taking another shot at the hulking serpent.
attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
damage: 1d8 ⇒ 4
Woo! Pretty sure i hit this time. Just as a reminder, I hit touch AC and my bullets do bludgeoning and piercing damage.

It's immune to crits because of it's elemental nature Lori. That's why my initial crit failed too.
Cerastes breaths a sigh of relief as the thing ceases to be a threat. He casts a spell to heal himself.
Cure Light Wounds for Cerastes: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Ok, well, he'll cast a second one on himself and then another on Ra.

Cure Light Wounds for Ra: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Ra was disturbed that his best strike did apparently nothing to the creature. Fortunately, Miss Lori's alchemical contraption actually worked on it and the victory was theirs.
When healed by Cerastes, he bowed formally and said; "I am grateful milord."

![]() |

The big man smiles at his companion's banter before adding, "I know where you can get really good tattoos of snakes..." His own brand doesn't seem to be bothering him all that much.

Miss Lori |

"I don't get what's the big deal with tomb robbing here anyway. It's not like the people here need it. I know when I die I rather someone take my stuff than be burred with it. It could help the living live another day. I hope that doesn't make me sound like b!tch" Lori says as Inferis and Cerastes approach.

Again the doors open at the slightest push..
A tapestry hangs from a frame against the south wall of this large chamber; it depicts an otherworldly vista where the souls of the dead, shepherded by strange beings, enter an ethereal river ambling through space toward a landscape dominated by an impossibly tall spire. Columns sculpted in the shape of Osirian warriors wielding khopeshes stand in all four corners of the room. The floor is tiled in a white spiral pattern on a black background, and this spiral pattern is repeated on the stone double doors to the north, east, and west.
The room is 30' x 20' you are in the middle of the 30' east wall

Maxelmish Stoutwick |

"No sense in timidness at this point" Max exclaims. He makes his way into the room, careful to avoid stepping on any suspicious parts of the spiral. "Well that's a beaut" he says, admiring the tapestry. Would probably fetch a decent price if it's not too heavy to get out. He takes a peak behind the cloth.

Ra-Khefer pauses at the sign of Pharasma and genuflects automatically. Then he moves about the room, checking it for obvious signs of previous tomb-robbers.
