| Inferis 'al Marris |
Inferis smiles, "I'm not going to take that bet. But I'll put a round of drinks on that it is a construct or a bug as there have been no undead in here." Inferis makes sure that she is behind her companions.

As Ra and Cerastes step up onto the platform there is a click and the doors by which you entered slam shut..at the same time Elictricity arcs between the piullars striking both of the explorers upon it.
Electric arc 2d6 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2
Cerastes Ref Save 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12 2 damage
Ra Ref Save 1d20 ⇒ 17 1 damage
Also the Sarcophagus shuddrs as if alive.
Cerastes Initiative 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Miss Lori Benton Initiative 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Maxelmish Stoutwick Initiative 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Inferis 'al Marris Initiative 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Ra-Khefer Initiative 1d20 ⇒ 13
Sarcophagus 1d20 ⇒ 9
Everyone but Inferis can act before the sarcophagus
Cerastes
|
Wow! Lucky on that electricity damage, thank the gods!
Cerastes steps back out of the lightning charged area, "Ra, let's not stand in that any longer than we have too." He prepares his warhammer to smash anything that advances on him from the sarcophagus.
Ready action to smash whatever comes into range. Warhammer strike: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
| Maxelmish Stoutwick |
Max searches his memories for anything useful against whatever emerges (or the sarcophagus itself, should it decide to animate). Not one to be stuck without a means of retreat, the halflings hands become a blur as he tries to unlock the door they had all just entered through.
Knowledge: Any: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Disable Device to unlock the door: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17

Round 1_________
Ra steps back and braces himself for a fight.
Assumes total defense stance. AC now 20.
"I have seen many sarcophagi, not one of them has ever shuddered as that one is."
| Miss Lori |
Then I will since it startled me
"@!#?@!" Lori swore when she saw the sarcophagus move and fired her gun at it.
attack vs touch: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (4) + 5 - 4 = 5
damage: 1d8 ⇒ 7
during surprise round
Lori reloads her gun as quickly as she can to ready herself for whatever happens next.
Cerastes
|
Cerastes quickly recovers from his initial shock and attempts to slam his hammer into the stoney surface of the sarcophagus.
Warhammer attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Ra-Khefer
|
In a defensive stance Ra-Khefer fends off the slamming attack with some difficulty; only to be surprised when lunges forward slams its lid down on him, apparently trying to swallow him.
Round 2_________
Ra-Khefer, unable to bring his axe into play, tries to break free of the creatures grip.
Grapple (Break Free): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
| Maxelmish Stoutwick |
Seeing that normal weaponry isn't having much effect, Max switches tactics. He draws his whip and circles for a good angle. Rather than the biting sting of a normal strike, his lash is slower, attempting to wrap his weapon around the monstrosity.
Moving to 15' away from the thing. Using a Dirty Trick Maneuver to entangle it.
Also, was Max's attempt to unlock the door on the first round successful?
CMB: 1d20 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 + 1 = 1
Ra-Khefer

Round 3_________
Ra-Khefer, unable to bring his axe into play, again tried to break free of the creatures grip.
Grapple (Break Free): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
| GM Sigma |
I'm going to post a quick cliff notes here to sum up combat so far since it's been roughly two, three months since this encounter started.
Ready Actions:
Trap goes off dealting 2 electric to Cerastes and 1 electric to Ra
Lori misses her attack.
Round 1:
Cerastes missed his attack
Inferis used magic missile for 3 force damage
Lori hit for 3 damage
Max missed his attack
Ra took a total defense
Sarcophagus bit Ra for 4 damage and grabbed him.
Round 2:
Cerastes missed his attack
Inferis
Lori missed her attack
Max failed a dirty trick
Ra attempted to break free of the grab, did not.
Sarcophagus
Round 3:
Ra will attempt to break free again.
That's what I got so far for our things. One thing I noticed that was not posted by GM Wellard was the second part of the trap. So I'll go ahead and thematically introduce it now. *cough*
As you all begin to move towards taking your actions against the sarcophagus, the large double doors in the back of the room spring open (these doors are on the opposite side of the room where you entered.) Immediately water rushes froward and begins to fill the room. After you begin your retaliation against the construct, you notice the water level has quickly risen a few inches, but not enough to restrict your movements (this is the beginning of round two.)
Since this part of the trap was not posted, should anyone choose to retcon their actions, it'll be fine. Just be sure to note that water is still filling the room.
Initiative order
Lori
Cerastes -2
Ra -5
Max
Sarcophagus -6
Inferis
Lori's not going to retcon her action and I don't believe Ra will either. I'm going to wait to see how Max and Cerastes feel about their actions before I post the Sarcophagus's action for Round 2. Until then, i'm going to start working on a map for us to use.
| GM Sigma |
The overall map is just viewable, I'll make edits to it as we go along. The Current Room map is editable so you're all free to move your icons as we play. I've sent the e-mail about switching the ownership of the pbp over to me so whenever it goes through, I'll be moving those links to the header so they'll be easier to find.
| Inferis 'al Marris |
round 2 action: cast acid splash at the construct. ranged touch attack (w/ penalty for firing into melee)1d20 - 3 ⇒ (12) - 3 = 91d3 ⇒ 2
question: do you want us to just post each round or should I wait until the construct acts?
| GM Sigma |
@ Ra - I'll let you know when round 3 starts.
@ Max - yep, just wanted to make sure you didn't wanna retcon your round 2 action
With Ra firmly grabbed, the lid to the sarcophagus opens slightly as it attempts to swallow the dwarf whole.
swallow: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
I hope I'm doing the swallow whole thing right... feel free to call me out if I'm doing it wrong.
Seeing the lid close on her ally, Infernis shoots an orb of acid at the sarcophagus to no avail.
Round 3
Lori
Cerastes
Ra
Max
Sarcophagus -6
Inferis
No sooner did the coffin entrap Ra within its stoney grasp did it seem to spit him out again, free of its snare.
Ra, for me, try to wait until the new rounds start now before you post your actions. I know you were anxious because you were grappled and eaten for a few seconds, but at the same time it'll make it easier for me to keep track of everyone's actions.
| GM Sigma |
Before i do the move, ra, are you even conscious at the moment? You may technically still be trapped now that i look over the damage again. 1 from the trap, 4 from the bite, and then 8 from the swallow. if that's right you're actually still trapped inside and unconscious. so if you wanna change your round three go before i do mine.
Ra-Khefer
|
My total defense AC was 20, so it missed with the bite. With 8 from the swollow I am positive 4hp.
Round three I fully intend to (CMB) break free again, since I probably can't chop free with my axe.
| GM Sigma |
in that case...
Despite his best efforts, Max seems unable to pick the lock a second time and begins to wonder if it's even possible.
Seeing Ra break out of its hold, the sarcophagus returns its attention to the dwarf and lashes out again.
attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
grapple: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
you're up Inferis
Ra-Khefer

Round 4______________
Furious at being swollowed (oh, the indignity!), Ra drops the defensive stance to attack the sarcophagus.
dwarven waraxe attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18 for a possible 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 slashing damage.
