Female Changeling (Mauxi Mwangi) Mwangi Spiritualist 12

Yahirma walks up to H4, winces, and steps a bit further to G4. From there she peeks around the corner. There, she readies an action to cast Ill Omen on the mysterious tiefling when the woman next tries to strike. She then waves a hand to the others and points down towards Maddok.

Oh, she should not have shot him. It is time to see the nature of this spirit within Maddok.

Misfortune's priorities are Maddok striking and the woman scoring a solid hit. Realizing she goes before he does, the order will likely determine the way Misfortune flies.

Male Human (Azalanti) Hp: 96/110, AC: 30 Bard 8/Fighter 4

Derek moves up behind the beast-that-walks and peers at the woman.
We do attract an awful lot of interesting females, too bad this one will most likely not survive that long.

Determining that the best he can do for the moment is supporting the beast-that-walks he begins to sing again.

Move to H3, then inspire courage +1 8/13 Rounds.

Just wait, I'll try tumbling past you next, wouldn't that be sweet? Boxed in between a beast-that-walks, a bard that...uh...stings, and a solider of Abbadar that is more nimble than you think.

The spirit's bovine ears twitch as Derek begins his performance.

Without removing his eyes from his opponent Not-Maddok speaks in roaring Shoanti.

Shoanti:
"YES. SING. SING OF GLORY, BLOOD, AND DEATH. SING OF BATTLE.

Male Human (Azalanti) Hp: 96/110, AC: 30 Bard 8/Fighter 4

I wonder what he is saying? I'll just pretend he is making song requests like the drunks do during after hours at the temple.

>>>Current Map<<<

Up next: Appario.

Male Human (Taldan) Abadaran Militant 12

Appario delays, looking for a way into the fight.

Female Changeling (Mauxi Mwangi) Mwangi Spiritualist 12

Heading out for the much of the day

When her turn next rolls around, Yahirma will likely need to delay. If the planar minotaur is in bad shape after a round, she will ready another Ill Fortune.

Female Half-Orc Sorcerer, 7th (Brass Draconic Bloodline)

Semenya, having seen the bestial transformation of Maddok, says of the beast with the axe, "It suits you!" As a move action, she moves to G4, and as her second move action, loads a masterwork cold iron crossbow bolt into her crossbow.

A pity the quarters are so close - a sheet of flame could be quite handy now.

I'm placing Semenya at H4, since G4 is occupied by Yahirma.

DM Rolls:

Tiefling Stealth: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (17) + 16 = 33

Appario Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Derek Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Maddok-Beast Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Semenya Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
Yahirma Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Deciding that the deep wound in her side is a sign of a plan gone awry, and with wide eyes at the appearance of the Beast of War, the fiendish-looking tiefling withdraws southwards, disappearing into the shadows and vanishing from sight as she moves.

The Beast of War:

The Beast of War can still detect her scent.

>>>Current Map<<<

Up next: Appario's delayed action, then round 2 (beginning with The Beast of War and Semenya).

Male Human (Taldan) Abadaran Militant 12

Appario will draw Extortion and move to H1.

"Where did she go? I am wary of following into traps. Let us proceed with caution, eh?"

Appario will look up and down the corridor.

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15 Perception (+1 for traps)

The Beast raises his snout and sniffs the air again. Ignoring Appario's warning it bounds after the teifling down the hall.

Move Action to follow after here. The Beast has a 50' move speed. I don't know if she stealthed at full speed or not but he might have caught up to her with one move. Also, he has darkvision.

Assuming he catches up with her he takes another swipe with his axe.
1d20 + 9 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 9 + 1 - 2 = 28
1d12 + 6 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 6 + 6 + 1 = 25

Confirming
1d20 + 9 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 9 + 1 - 2 = 11 =(
2d12 + 26 ⇒ (12, 7) + 26 = 45

To the north, Appario can see a 30 ft. long hallway, along which there are three smoky glass windows set at eye level. The hallway ends at a stone wall.

To the south, he sees another 30 ft. long hallway, also with three smoky glass windows set at eye level. This hallway ends at an open door. Beyond the door the hallway becomes more cavelike as it extends for another 40 ft. before taking a sharp turn to the east.

Appario can't see the tiefling woman in either direction.

The Beast of War bounds down the hallway, sniffs the air just as it reaches the door, and brings the axe down with full force, seemingly striking into thin air. A cry of pain can be heard, and Appario can see blood splattering the walls to either side of the hallway. He still can't see anyone besides the Beast.

The Beast of War:

The woman's scent is still strong and full of life, although now the scent of blood is just as strong as her own. Despite smelling her right before him, he still can't see her.

>>>Current Map, northern section<<<

>>>Current Map, southern section<<<

The Tiefling's position is marked for convenience; she's not visible.

Up next: Semenya, then Yahirma, then Derek.

Male Human (Azalanti) Hp: 96/110, AC: 30 Bard 8/Fighter 4

She'll get away, but I can't get past her since I don't know WHERE she is!

Derek moves after the beast-that-walks, keeping just behind his back, singing away while trying to find an opportunity to get into a better position.

Move to L1, Inspire courage +1 9/13

Female Changeling (Mauxi Mwangi) Mwangi Spiritualist 12

Decidedly perplexed as to where the female went, Yahirma moves forward to join Appario. She sticks to the right (ending in G1) and watches out for danger to the north.

Full defense from there

>>>Current Map, northern section<<<

>>>Current Map, southern section<<<

As before, the Tiefling's position is marked for convenience.

When Derek moves up close to The Beast of War, he can see blood dripping down to the ground just ahead of it, and not all of that blood is dripping from the axe.

Current Initiative order:
21 - The Beast of War and Semenya
20 - Yahirma
17 - Derek
10 - Tiefling
9 - Appario

Up next: Semenya, then the Tiefling, then Appario.

The Beast speaks a few more words in thundering Shoanti before raising his axe high and bringing it down again in a deadly arc.

Shoanti:
"YOU CANNOT RUN. FACE ME".

1d20 + 9 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 9 - 2 + 1 = 28
1d12 + 6 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 6 + 6 + 1 = 15

Confirming.

1d20 + 9 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 9 - 2 + 1 = 28 Oh boy.
2d12 + 26 ⇒ (11, 12) + 26 = 49

Edit: I just realized its nowhere near my turn. =/

Female Changeling (Mauxi Mwangi) Mwangi Spiritualist 12

Oh, I hope you can keep that critical hit. From those hours of swinging a smithing hammer, you may have also missed that a greataxe has a x3 critical modifier (3d12+39)

I remembered. That's the extra crit damage in case the roll somehow didn't confirm. The total would be 64!

Yahirma wrote:

Sadly, we may be waiting a long time for that. Semenya's been up for 22+ hours and counting and then the tiefling might have the good sense to run away again. We'll see what happens.

NPC'ing Semenya for this round (24 hours since her turn was next). Whenever The Beast of War gets a chance to roll an attack roll next, it can keep the roll from above (not going to take that away!)

Semenya moves to I1, keeping the crossbow loaded. She readies an action to fire the bolt if the Tiefling becomes visible.

The Tiefling realizes that withdrawing at half speed seems like a poor option, and standing to fight the bestial creature in front of her also seems suboptimal. She tries to withdraw again, but moving further this time.

DM Rolls:

Tiefling Stealth: 1d20 + 16 - 5 ⇒ (3) + 16 - 5 = 14 (-5: stealth while moving faster than half speed)

Appario Perception: 1d20 + 6 - 3 ⇒ (3) + 6 - 3 = 6 (-3: 30 ft away)
Derek Perception: 1d20 + 6 - 1 ⇒ (2) + 6 - 1 = 7 (-1: 10 ft away)
Maddok-Beast Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Semenya Perception: 1d20 + 10 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 10 - 2 = 12 (-2: 20 ft away)
Yahirma Perception: 1d20 + 2 - 3 ⇒ (18) + 2 - 3 = 17 (-3: 30 ft away)

Alone among the group, Yahirma can see the Tiefling as she moves down the hallway and vanishes around the corner. The Beast of War smells her moving away, but eventually loses her scent as she gets too far away.

Yahirma can use misfortune to reroll one of the Perception checks (or the Search check) from the spoiler, if she wants to.

>>>Current Map, southern section<<<

Up next: Appario, then round 3 (beginning with The Beast of War and Semenya).

Female Changeling (Mauxi Mwangi) Mwangi Spiritualist 12

As the others are befuddled by the tiefling's withdrawl, Yahirma realizes she must act now. Glaring at the back of the Beast's horned head, she wills it to look up - UP!

Misfortune re-roll of Beast's perception 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

As the creature's nostrils flare and its head jerks upwards to see the tiefling, Yahirma lets out a sigh of relief.

I can't imagine what the Shoanti spirit would do if his prey were to disappear without sating his hunger...

Ah, I understand your system now, Maddok. Hopefully the second glance will give you an opportunity to employ those big 20s.

Male Human (Taldan) Abadaran Militant 12

Appario will double move to P1 while watching for traps.

1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 6 + 1 = 27 Perception for traps

Male thoradorian minotaur ranger (wild hunter) 5 [ HP 63/63 (0 NL) | AC 18 Tch 12 FF 17 | Fort +8 Ref +6 Will +5* | CMD 25* | Init +1 | Perc +8 | Effects: none ]

Thanks Are.

The Beast growls as he loses sight of his prey and then, somehow, he spots her again passing around the corner.

Gripping his weapon tightly he bounds around the corner after her.

Single moving if I can reach her with a single move and attack. Double moving if I have to in order to get adjacent. If possible, get around in front of her to put an end to the withdraw-spam shenanigans.

Male Human (Azalanti) Hp: 96/110, AC: 30 Bard 8/Fighter 4

Hang on, I'm coming!

Derek will hasten after that blood mad bovine, keeping his broad back in clear view as he sings for god and country.

Derek will just follow Maddok, if Maddok gets around and blocks her, then he will try and flank with him to box her in.

Inspire courage +1, 10/13 Rounds.

The Beast can't reach her with a single move. The map below reflects The Beast having moved 60 ft. He can get past the Tiefling by succeeding at an Acrobatics check.

DM Rolls:

Maddok-Beast Perception: 1d20 + 6 - 3 ⇒ (17) + 6 - 3 = 20 (-3: 30 ft. away)
Derek Perception: 1d20 + 6 - 3 ⇒ (12) + 6 - 3 = 15 (-3: 30 ft. away)

Lacedon #1 Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Lacedon #2 Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Lacedon #3 Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Lacedon Ghast Stealth: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16

Appario doesn't find any traps on his way, but he notices that one of the smoky glass windows (at the M/N-1/2 intersection) has been wiped clean, and the window provides a clear view of the Bearded Devil's cell. There's was no corresponding window on the inside of the cell.

The Beast of War catches up to the fleeing Tiefling next to another open door. Behind the door a large chamber with a domed ceiling stretches out. Long mildewy strips of wood paneling hangs down from above like drooping branches, while a large pool of churning muddy water fills much of the room. The water flows down a trough to gather in a small pool in the eastern end of the chamber. Dozens of bones lie scattered along the ledge surrounding the pool.

Despite water flowing constantly from the large pool to the small pool, the water level at both pools appear to remain constant.

Beyond the eastern pool, yet another open door can be seen. The beginning of a smooth, circular tunnel can be seen behind the door.

The Beast of War:

The Beast of War notices something moving behind the surface of the water (at V9, V11, and V12).

Derek:

Derek notices something moving behind the surface of the water (at V11).

>>>Current Map, northern section<<<

>>>Current Map, southern section<<<

>>>Current Map, south-eastern section<<<

For all maps, Derek is at V3 instead of L1; I was in the process of making this post when Derek posted and was almost ready to post when I saw his post, so I didn't update the maps again :)

Up next: Semenya and Yahirma, plus potentially an Acrobatics check from The Beast.

The Beast isn't terribly agile and wouldn't try to tumble past anyone. I would go for an overrun but that's a standard action.

The Beast snorts in anger, shooting a cloud of steam into the air, as the demon continues to flee from him.

Shoanti:
"YOU CANNOT ESCAPE".

Seeing shapes in the water he motions with his wide-set horns.

Shoanti:
"BELOW THE WATER. MORE FOES JOIN THE BATTLE".

The Beast could try to overrun instead of taking the second move action to move the last 10 ft reflected in the maps.

I think overrun is a standard as part of a move or as a charge. If you want to run with allowing The Beast to move and overrun as one standard, I'll go with that!

CMB: 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 9 + 1 = 21

Hmm. Reading the Overrun rules again, you're probably right. On first read, I was thinking it was a standard action that allowed you to move. Sorry.

Female Changeling (Mauxi Mwangi) Mwangi Spiritualist 12

Lu Lolu, he's fast!

Yahirma follows as best she can, which gets her to S1 on the "southern" map.

Yeah. For what it's worth you have the honor of completely stumping me. I'm at a loss for ways to counter an enemy that repeatedly withdraws outside of single-move range. In fact, I started a thread discussing the strategy!

Maybe the creatures in the room will give us a hand and help us corner her. =P

Indirectly, and combined with her unawareness that The Beast has a 50-ft move, they actually might help you (unless she manages to successfully hide-in-plain-sight again) :)

Since it has little direct relevance at the moment, I'm posting an action for Semenya. Feel free to post a different action instead.

Semenya follows the others down the hallway, keeping the crossbow loaded as she moves to U1.

DM Rolls:

Tiefling Stealth: 1d20 + 16 - 5 ⇒ (3) + 16 - 5 = 14 (-5: stealth while moving faster than half speed)

Derek Perception: 1d20 + 6 - 1 ⇒ (9) + 6 - 1 = 14 (-1: 10 ft away)
Maddok-Beast Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

Both Derek and The Beast of War can see the Tiefling as she once again attempts to blend into the shadows while withdrawing. She takes care not to step into the water as she moves.

>>>Current Map, southern section<<<

>>>Current Map, eastern section<<<

Up next: Appario, then The Beast of War and Semenya (round 4). The Beast can get adjacent to the Tiefling with a single move action by moving diagonally and splashing through the water (ending at T13 or U13).

Male Human (Taldan) Abadaran Militant 12

Appario will double move to V2.

That tiefling is leading the bull around by the nose. Heck, she's making him moooooove quickly. I wonder if that's because she's cowed. I'm sure the bull just wants to axe her another question.

Appario giggles a bit while he provides chase.

Seeing the tiefling warily avoiding the water, The Beast does the same. He easily vaults over the corner tap the DC to jump over the corner and looses a thundering roar as he crosses the rest of the distance to bring his axe down onto her skull. Ending in T13

If you're still okay with it I'll use that crit I rolled above.

The Beast of War's thunderous swipe of Semenya's axe virtually splits the Tiefling woman in half from head to toe, and she crumbles to the ground beneath its cloven hooves as her veins bleed out.

DM Rolls:

Lacedons Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Lacedon Ghast Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19

Appario Perception: 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (4) + 6 - 4 = 6 (-4: 40 ft away)

>>>Current Map, western section<<<

>>>Current Map, eastern section<<<

Up next: Semenya and Yahirma. Something might happen before Derek's initiative, so he may want to wait before posting his action :)

Female Changeling (Mauxi Mwangi) Mwangi Spiritualist 12

Yahirma jogs around the corner and squeezes past Derek (end in V4). There she glances at the Beast, realizes the Tiefling is no longer extant, and then the oracle spends a standard action pulling out a map-making kit.

Too many twists and turns in here. I wouldn't want to get lost in a pocket dimension. Can't minotaurs do something about...maybe?

Lacking much knowledge of monstrous beasts, she shrugs and finishes fishing out the drawing supplies.

Male Human (Azalanti) Hp: 96/110, AC: 30 Bard 8/Fighter 4

As Yahrima squeezes past a part of Dereks mind chuckles, especially the one remembering her acting as the dark but delicious devil of the play.
I do so love those women...

DM Rolls:

Yahirma Perception: 1d20 + 2 - 3 ⇒ (14) + 2 - 3 = 13 (-3: 30 ft away)

>>>Current Map, western section<<<

>>>Current Map, eastern section<<<

Up next: Semenya.

It's been almost two days. Has anyone heard anything from Semenya?

Not me, at least. If she hasn't posted within 8 hours from now (48 hours since the first time she was next), I'll NPC her and keep her NPC'ed until she posts.

Now that The Beast of War isn't distracted by his hunt for the fleeing Tiefling, his keen senses detect that the filthy water smells foul with a mix of mud and rot.

Male Human (Azalanti) Hp: 96/110, AC: 30 Bard 8/Fighter 4

Still waiting to see what horrible...horrors might happen before my post.

You have a point. In the interest of moving this along, I'll rule that Semenya delays until she posts, or until I begin NPC'ing her.

Before Derek can act, a thin, blue-skinned humanoid creature with long, sharp teeth and fingernails, and webbing between its fingers and toes, clambers up from the water near The Beast of War and the dead Tiefling. Mud and filthy water drips from its pallid flesh, and The Beast's sense of smell is assaulted by the horrible stink of death and corruption emanating from the creature as it crouches down next to the Tiefling woman's body and begins tearing strips of flesh from her and feeding.

Fortitude save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

The Beast is just barely able to resist the sickening stench.

Derek:

The shape Derek saw beneath the water earlier is still there.

The Beast:

The two other shapes The Beast noticed beneath the water are still there.

Knowledge (religion) DC 12:

This is an Undead creature known as a Lacedon Ghast, an aquatic cousin of the ordinary Ghast, which again is a more dangerous variation of the Ghoul. Like an ordinary Ghoul, a Ghast can inflict disease and paralysis with their attacks. Unlike the Ghoul, a Ghast is surrounded by an overwhelming stink of death and corruption that can cause nearby creatures to become sickened.

Undead traits are also revealed.

Knowledge (religion) DC 17:

As above, plus you can read the Bestiary/PRD statblock :)

Up next: Derek.

Edit: This post was changed slightly from its original version to better reflect the creature's nature.

Since noone has posted, I might as well just NPC Semenya now rather than continuing to delay her action.

Semenya moves to V5 and readies an action to fire the crossbow bolt at the creature in case it attacks.

DM Rolls:

Semenya Perception: 1d20 + 10 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 10 - 2 = 20 (-2: 20 ft away)

Spotting something in the water, she says "There's still something moving beneath the surface. Take care!"

Up next: Derek. Maps as above except Semenya's move.

Male Human (Azalanti) Hp: 96/110, AC: 30 Bard 8/Fighter 4

Knowledge Religion: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22

Forgoing speaking to shout out a warning, Derek calls out.
"Watch out, it's claws paralyze, and it's bite is infected with rot. Destroy it before it can hurt you."

Derek moves to S12, moving as far away from the water as possible, drawing his rapier as he moves.

Having moved closer to the creature, Derek finds himself overwhelmed by the immense stench emanating from it.

Fortitude save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Derek finds the stench so horrible that he becomes sickened by it.

Three more creatures, all looking almost exactly like the first, clamber up from the water. These, seeing that the first one has already secured a dinner, attempt to secure their own by sinking their teeth into The Beast, Derek, and Semenya, respectively.

Bite attack #1 (vs The Beast): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Bite attack #2 (vs Derek): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Bite attack #3 (vs Semenya): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Bite damage #1: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Bite damage #2: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Bite damage #3: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Fortitude save vs disease (The Beast): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Fortitude save vs paralysis (The Beast): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26

Fortitude save vs disease (Derek): 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 3 - 2 = 17 (-2: sickened)
Fortitude save vs paralysis (Derek): 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 3 - 2 = 20 (-2: sickened)

The creatures attacking The Beast and Derek both find their mark, and The Beast takes 5 damage while Derek takes 7 damage. Both of their bodies successfully fight off the infection and paralysis.

Knowledge (religion) DC 11:

These are Undead creatures known as Lacedons, an aquatic cousin of the Ghoul. Like the Ghoul, their attacks can cause disease and paralysis.

Knowledge (religion) DC 16:

As above, plus you can read the Bestiary/PRD information on the Ghoul.

Up next: Appario, then round 5 (beginning with The Beast and Yahirma). Yahirma can also use misfortune on Derek's saving throw vs the stench or on one of the two attacks that hit The Beast and Derek.

Male Human (Taldan) Abadaran Militant 12

Sheesh...I've really been out of place every turn this fight. :(

Appario delays until Semenya is unconscious, dead, or moves.

When that happens, Appario will move up the L#3 and strike with Extortion.

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17 to hit;
1d10 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 damage.

Guessing that this will be necessary too.

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20 Fort Save

I suppose that is the downfall of a 20 ft speed :/

The Beast's snout wrinkles and he shakes his shaggy head violently as the powerful scent threatens to overwhelm his senses.

As the source of the stench emerges from the water and begins consuming his kill the Beast becomes enraged.

Shoanti:
"ABOMINATION. STAIN UPON THIS WORLD".

Ignoring the other two nearby undead, the Shoanti warrior spirit brings his weapon down on the creature feeding on the teifling's remains.

1d12 + 9 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 9 + 6 + 1 = 24

Following the momentum of his weapon - the semi-bovine Beast lashes out with his hooves, delivering a pair of crushing blows.

1d20 + 10 - 2 - 5 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 10 - 2 - 5 + 1 = 7
1d4 + 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 2 + 1 = 10
1d20 + 10 - 2 - 5 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 10 - 2 - 5 + 1 = 23
1d4 + 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 2 + 1 = 10

If the first attack drops his target the hooves can go on the next enemy.

The Beast slices the creature at his feet in half, before turning and kicking the nearest creature hard in the gut with one hoof.

The creature's stench still lingers, although now much less potent.
