Appario hacks the first tiefling down with one casual swing of his sword, then steps up to challenge the next tiefling in line.

Up next: Eklektos, Semenya, and Derek.

Male Human (Azalanti) Hp: 96/110, AC: 30 Bard 8/Fighter 4

Derek smiles delightedly as the tieflings advance, he continues his defensive posture and then strikes out, not at the foe in front of him, but rather at the already injured one in front of Semenya.

Attack using combat expertise: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Hp: 15/20, AC 18, Bardic music 4/9 used.

Female Half-Orc Sorcerer, 7th (Brass Draconic Bloodline)

"Ah. So you DO burn. Let me tousle your horns."

She steps in and attacks with her claws.

1d20 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 + 1 = 6
1d20 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 + 1 = 8
1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Claws. The most useless X times per day power in the game.

Derek's strike hits true, furthering the agonies of the tiefling in front of Semenya. Semenya's claws, on the other hand, lash haphazardly out into the air, hitting nothing.

Up next: Eklektos.

Male Aasimar Druid 2

Eklektos continues to drag Theron, double-moving as far as they can make it.

Claws aren't always useless, especially when they improve. And thanks on the rulings. Wanted to check that because I wasn't sure.

For a 1/2 BAB class with a predilection for treating STR as a dump stat, yeah, they're pretty useless. Improved claws don't help if you're attacking with a +7 to hit against AC's in the mid to high 20s...

Eklektos drags Theron along as far as H4, leaving a bloody smear on the ground they pass over.

The spellcaster utters an incantation and sends a wobbly green orb towards Appario.

Ranged touch: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (15) - 2 = 13 (-4 penalty for shooting into melee applied; Appario also gets +4 AC from cover against this attack)
Spell damage: 1d3 ⇒ 1

The orb bursts in a spray of green goo, but Appario manages to avoid it.

The tiefling in front of Appario swings at him, then stands his ground.

Short sword attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Short sword damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Appario takes 4 damage from the well-placed attack.

Both tieflings to the north focus their attacks on Derek.

Short sword attack #1: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Short sword damage #1: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Short sword attack #2: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Short sword damage #2: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Both tieflings seem to have been rattled by Semenya's flames actually being able to hurt them, as their accuracy is non-existant.

Following the attacks, the tiefling in F7 attempts to tumble past Derek into F5.

Acrobatics check: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20 (DC 22 vs Derek, DC 15 vs Semenya)

Derek gets an AoO against the tumbling tiefling.

>>>Updated Map<<<

Up next: Derek's AoO, then Appario.

Male Human (Azalanti) Hp: 96/110, AC: 30 Bard 8/Fighter 4

Catching the acrobatic tiefling in a weak moment, Dereks rapier flash out like a tiny metal lightning bolt.

AoO: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

"Nice try my friend, but you should remember your role in the play, villains first, then henchmen, then brutes and finally your type, stooges."

Derek's rapier again finds its mark, dropping the tiefling from a thrust straight through its heart.

Up next: Appario, then Eklektos, Semenya, and Derek.

Male Human (Taldan) Abadaran Militant 12

Feeling very unhappy with the two tieflings, Appario considers moving back...but then realizes he doesn't think he can in this situation.

Slicing at the foe in front of him:
1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 5 + 1 = 16 to hit;
1d10 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 3 + 1 = 13 damage.

Swift action: Lay on Hands 1d6 ⇒ 3 of healing

If I hit the foe and it falls, move to R1.

Appario's Stats:

AC: 19
HP: 9/16
Weapon: Bastard sword and shield
Status: Angry.
Effects:
Lay on Hands: 3 of 3 used
Smitten today? No.

Slicing the tiefling nearly in half, Appario then wades through its remains towards the spellcaster.

Up next: Eklektos, Semenya, and Derek.

Male Human (Azalanti) Hp: 96/110, AC: 30 Bard 8/Fighter 4

"Now then, on to you my friend stooge number two, can I call you stoogie for the remainder of our brief association?"

Fighting defensively, Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Derek's defensive tactics functioning to perfection, the second tiefling drops beneath his feet, blood oozing out of its wounds.

The only enemy still standing within sight is the spellcaster near Appario. Between F7 and R1 there are a total of 4 tiefling bodies and 4 dog bodies; all of which are either dead or dying.

Beyond that, known enemies are a spellcaster and two tieflings that were last seen in the eastern tunnel. The sound of running feet moving further to the south was also heard near the western tunnel, early on in the fight there.

>>>Current Map<<<

Up next: Eklektos and Semenya.

Male Human (Azalanti) Hp: 96/110, AC: 30 Bard 8/Fighter 4

Derek looks down at the body at his feet and shrugs.
"You should thank me for making your end brief and relatively painless, the villain always have to posture and make a fool out of himself, and often end up falling into a vat of boiling oil or some such dramatic nonsense. I salute you Stoogie."

Male Aasimar Druid 2

Eklektos grabs his last healing scroll and reads it over Theron in an attempt to cure his friend.

Cure: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Bugger!

Female Half-Orc Sorcerer, 7th (Brass Draconic Bloodline)

"Appario, I'm thinking we should fall back to the stairs we came in on once you're done." She says this via the Message cantrip, and moves towards Theron and Eklektos, handing Eklektos one of her three Potions of Cure Light Wounds, and having the other ready to pour down the cat's throat.

"I'll keep an eye out for pursuers once you're back here - or we can regroup and tackle the other tunnel if you think we're up to it."

The spellcaster attempts to cast a spell while keeping his guard up against Appario.

Concentration check to cast defensively: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21 (DC 15)

Succeeding at keeping his guard up, he casts his spell. Appario feels his mind becoming clouded.

Appario's Will save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23 (DC 12)

Appario succeeds at fighting back the magic.

The spellcaster, feeling his spell failing, takes a short step to the east.

To the north, two tieflings wielding crossbows step into view from the eastern corridor. Both take aim and fire at Derek, who is the only one in full view from where they stand.

Crossbow attack #1: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Crossbow damage #1: 1d8 ⇒ 5

Crossbow attack #2: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Crossbow damage #2: 1d8 ⇒ 7

Both bolts harmlessly hit the wall behind Derek.

>>>Current Map<<<

Up next: Appario, then Eklektos, Semenya, and Derek.

Male Human (Taldan) Abadaran Militant 12

Whispering to Semenya: "I hope to be there soon, Semenya."

Stnd Action: Swinging at the caster, he is not my friend.
1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 5 + 1 = 11 to hit;
1d10 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 3 + 1 = 14 damage.

Move action: If I hit and finish off the caster, move to L1. If I miss, 5' step to R2.

Appario's sword barely misses, cutting off pieces of cloth but catching no flesh.

Male Aasimar Druid 2

Eklektos takes the potion and gratefully pours it down the cat's throat, then pulls another out of his bag. Into the Message, "If you could, Appario, grab my spear when you come back. I don't fancy trying to learn my way around a sword in combat."

Cure Potion: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Theron, now awake, stands and moves back toward the door they came in. Theron moves to F5.

Stats:
HP Eklektos 1/15, Theron 2/21
AC Both 15, touch 13, flat-footed 12
Status Wounded, but alive
Spells Cast Entangle, Daylight (SPA)
Resources Consumed 1 Scroll Cure Light, 2 Potions Cure Light (1 from Semenya, 1 on next turn)

Is it bad that the healer-Druid has is taking this much damage?

Female Half-Orc Sorcerer, 7th (Brass Draconic Bloodline)

Semenya moves through Eklektos' square, and administers the potion in her hand to Theron.

1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

This constitutes her standard action.

It doesn't look like anyone ended up taking the second potion of cmw or the two potions of shield of faith that Arael gave you. At least the first one could be useful in this situation. Once you're all together in a safer place, you can decide who has them.

Up next: Derek.

Male Human (Azalanti) Hp: 96/110, AC: 30 Bard 8/Fighter 4

Not wanting the group cut of, and seeing two foes with crossbows trained at him, Derek goes on the offensive. Moving forward quickly he stabs out at the foe that should be unable to defend themselves with ranged weapons up.

Move to F9, stabbing the tiefling in E10 using combat expertise.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Might be a hit if you still get a bonus to attack people with ranged weapons up.

Derek Keegan wrote:

The tables on Attack modifiers and AC modifiers don't say anything about wielding ranged weapons, so it looks like there's no bonus (other than the fact that they can't make AoOs, and they provoke AoOs when they shoot).

The tiefling is able to twist his body just as Derek's rapier flashes out towards him, causing the attack to miss.

Out of the corner of his eye, Derek notices the second spellcaster standing ready at K11, and a magic missile comes flying from its fingertips.

Derek takes 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 damage.

The two crossbow-wielding tieflings step back in unison, then load and fire again at Derek. (since they can't actually do it in unison, the first one gets a -4 penalty for shooting into melee)

Crossbow attack #1: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (12) - 1 = 11 (-4 penalty for shooting into melee applied)
Crossbow damage #1: 1d8 ⇒ 2

Crossbow attack #2: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Crossbow damage #2: 1d8 ⇒ 4

Both attacks miss the expertly fighting bard.

The spellcaster by Appario attempts the same tactics as the previous round, and tries to cast a spell while in a defensive posture.

Concentration check to cast defensively: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 (DC 15)

Failing to focus on his magic, the spellcaster inches further east.

Appario can hear the sound of several running feet coming closer from further south.

Current Initiative order:
23 - Tieflings
12 - Appario
11 - Theron
9 - Semenya, Eklektos, and Derek
9 - Vethamer
3 - Ostengo

>>>Current Map<<<

Up next: Appario, then Theron, then Eklektos, Semenya, and Derek.

Male Human (Taldan) Abadaran Militant 12

Appario tries it again:

Slicing at the bastard wizard:
1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 5 + 1 = 17 to hit;
1d10 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 3 + 1 = 10 damage.

Move: If it is still up, 5' step to R3. Otherwise move to M1.

Appario's Stats:

AC: 19
HP: 9/16
Weapon: Bastard sword and shield
Status:
Effects:
Lay on Hands: 3 of 3 used
Smitten today? No.

Appario strikes a fine blow, but although he is bleeding profusely the spellcaster is still standing.

Male Aasimar Druid 2

Hearing more fighting going on, Theron moves out to assist despite his injuries. Spying Derek going up alone against the two Tieflings, he moves in to assist, attacking one of them.

Theron moves to E10, then attacks the Tiefling in E11.
Bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Eklektos chugs the potion in his hand, then chases after the cat with his dagger ready.

Cure potion: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Eklektos moves to E9.

Stats:
HP Eklektos 6/15, Theron 6/21
AC Both 15, touch 13, flat-footed 12
Status Both less wounded
Spells Cast Entangle, Daylight (SPA)
Resources Consumed 1 Scroll Cure Light, 3 Potions Cure Light (2 from Semenya, 1 from pack)

Theron's strong jaws savage one of the tiefling's legs, causing blood to flow freely. Despite letting loose a painfilled scream, the tiefling still remains standing.

>>>Current Map<<<

Up next: Semenya and Derek.

Female Half-Orc Sorcerer, 7th (Brass Draconic Bloodline)

Semenya will make a double move to Q1, not knowing how long Appario will have a light source for...and wanting to make sure he's all right.

If the 'caster is still up on her next round, Acid Orb will be the next order of business.

Through the Message spell: "Appario, I'm coming up behind you. I think that Eklektos and Derek with Theron have the others at bay for the moment.

Eklektos, let me know if there are any problems on your matchup."

She'll also have her last healing potion out, just in case.

Male Human (Azalanti) Hp: 96/110, AC: 30 Bard 8/Fighter 4

Derek is pleased to be joined by his allies, and he quickly strikes out at the tiefling Theron has injured.
Attack with combat expertise: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Critical confirmation: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Critical Damage:1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Derek's expertly placed strike brings the injured tiefling down.

North/East Combat (Derek, Eklektos, Theron):

The spellcaster fires another magic missile at Derek, then moves to the south and then out of sight to the west.

Derek takes 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 damage.

The remaining tiefling finds himself alone and cornered. He drops his crossbow and draws his sword, leaving himself open to Derek and Theron. Then, if he still lives, he lashes out at Derek.

Derek and Theron can take AoOs against the tiefling.

Short sword attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Short sword damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

The attack, if it occurs, misses as the tiefling lashes out in desperation with little regard for accuracy.

South/West Combat (Appario, Semenya):

The spellcaster has a desperate look in his eyes as he yet again tries the same tactic.

Concentration check to cast defensively: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17 (DC 15)

Succeeding at keeping his guard up while casting, the spellcaster lobs a green blob at Appario.

Ranged touch: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Spell damage: 1d3 ⇒ 1

Once again the green blob bursts in thin air while Appario dodges the acidic spray.

The spellcaster continues to edge to the east, where Appario can now see an open door a bit further to the southeast.

Shortly afterwards, five new tieflings come running from the south through the door, ending their movements just after coming through the open doorway. They're panting, as if having run for several rounds, and most of them look as if they just got out of bed.

>>>Current Map<<<

(The red square around Vethamer means that's the last square he was seen in.)

Up next: Derek's and Theron's AoOs, then Appario, then Theron.

Male Human (Taldan) Abadaran Militant 12

More friends, eh? Let's finish this and get to the good stuff!

By 'good stuff', Appario means an ordered and careful retreat.

Slicing with bastard sword:
1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 5 + 1 = 20 to hit;
1d10 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 1 = 8 damage.

"Would you please die, you bastard!?"

Whether it hits or nor, whether it takes down the wizard or not, Appario will move to N1 (might draw an AoO from Ostengo).

Whispering to Semenya, "Give me that potion and I'll hold this corridor as long as there is light and I have strength to grip the sword."

Appario's Stats:

AC: 19
HP: 9/16
Weapon: Bastard sword and shield
Status:
Effects:
Lay on Hands: 3 of 3 used
Smitten today? No.

Appario's angered swing brings down the spellcaster, and a spray of fine red mist accompanies the body as it falls to the ground.

As he moves away, Appario notices that only one of the newcomers appears to wear any sort of armor, although they're all wielding short swords.

Female Half-Orc Sorcerer, 7th (Brass Draconic Bloodline)

Semenya hands Appario the potion as he meets up with her, and keeps him between her and the tieflings along the corridor. "If they pursue, I'll try to dull their minds."

Semenya is holding a readied action - she will cast Hypnotism on the Tiefling when they come around, and before they reach Appario. Because they hasn't been in combat yet, the Will DC is 14.

2d4 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2 Duration
2d4 ⇒ (4, 1) = 5 HD Affected

Hypnotism has a 1-round casting time, which means Semenya can't ready an action to cast it this round; she'll have to spend a standard action to begin casting, and then finish the casting with another standard action on her next turn.

Male Human (Azalanti) Hp: 96/110, AC: 30 Bard 8/Fighter 4

AoO: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Critical confirmation:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Damage:1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Critical Damage:1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

DM Are wrote:

Right - she's just holding her standard action to start casting until the Tiefs come up.

Derek's strike hits the tiefling well, but it doesn't drop from the blow.

Okay, so: Ready action to start casting when they come, then finish casting the next turn after that. That certainly works :)

Up next: Theron's AoO, then Theron's regular turn, then Derek and Eklektos.

Male Aasimar Druid 2

As the Tiefling draws his shortsword, Theron jumps at the arm drawing and tries to tear it off.

Bite AoO: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
AoO Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Crit Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Theron attempts to savage the Tiefling before it can deal any more damage to his companions.

Bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Claw 1: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Claw 2: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Bite Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Claw 1 Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Claw 2 Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Theron nearly succeeds at his savage attempt to tear the tiefling's arm off before it can attack, leaving the arm hanging unusable in its socket and the sword dropping to the ground. The tiefling drops to one knee, and then Theron's bite finishes the job.

Theron can take a move action instead of the two claw attacks, if you wish. If he keeps the claw attacks, they'll both be automatic hits against the prone tiefling.

Up next: Derek and Eklektos.

Male Aasimar Druid 2

Reckless cat instead moves to L12

On his turn, Eklektos follows the cat down the hallway, still shining with the light of day. His dagger is ready to fling at the nearest opponent. Eklektos moves to J11, ready action to throw the dagger at any opponent. 1d20+4 attack, 1d4 damage.

Reckless cat is extremely reckless. If this were my RL game, this would be the point where I would ask in a stern voice: "Are you SURE you want to do that?"

By the way, I have been running under the assumption that you left the daylight-source in the western tunnel with Appario (since he would otherwise have no light). The light-source by the eastern tunnel was one of the light-pebbles that the tieflings weren't able to get rid of.

Perhaps we'll make that H11 and H10 for Theron and Eklektos respectively, then. To cover a retreat, as it were. :)

Male Human (Azalanti) Hp: 96/110, AC: 30 Bard 8/Fighter 4

Derek stops his "performance" as he is unsure of how many enemies remain at the time; he instead leaves the pass to be guarded by the nature duo and hastens to the aid of Appario.

Double move to J1

Apologies for not being able to post yesterday; we had visitors.

Three of the tieflings to the west move into the tunnel, although they keep their distance from Appario, and brace themselves for an attack. The remaining two move into positions close to the tunnel. One attempts to use darkness to get rid of the daylight, but naturally fails.

As the tieflings move into view, Semenya starts casting hypnotism.
(the spell will finish casting on Semenya's next turn, which will be just before the tieflings' next turn)

In the eastern tunnel, the silence is deafening. Neither Eklektos nor Theron can hear anything moving.

Everybody hears the deep sound of a church bell that has begun ringing nearby.

>>>Current Map<<<

Up next: Appario, then Theron, then Eklektos and Derek, then Semenya.

Male Human (Taldan) Abadaran Militant 12

DM Are: Glad you're back. :)

Appario stands his ground ready to whack the first of the tieflings who comes to play.

"Semenya, if you want to pour that down my gullet if you get the chance, I'd be appreciative," Appario whispers as he focuses on the enemy.

Male Aasimar Druid 2

Eklektos and Theron begin to retreat slowly toward their companions now that the way is clear behind them. Eklektos stops to gather any supplies from the dropped Tiefling while Theron keeps a watchful eye on the corridor.

Eklektos move to E10 (I think?) to gather any materials from the downed Tiefling (E11?). Whatever squares make that work. Theron takes a 5-foot step to G10 and holds action to attack any Tieflings that come near them.

There are downed tieflings in E11, F11, F7, G7, O1, and P1. There's a downed spellcaster in S4. There are downed dogs in N1, Q1, P1, and R1.

A quick search of the tiefling's pockets reveals a potion, 20 gp, and thieves' tools. The tiefling also has a short sword, and it wears well-made studded leather armor.

It will take about a minute to remove the armor.

Up next: Derek, then Semenya (who can take a move action after the standard action to finish hypnotism).

Male Aasimar Druid 2

Not going to bother with the armor, then, but everything portable from both the Tieflings near me. Probably have to take F11 as my standard next round.

Female Half-Orc Sorcerer, 7th (Brass Draconic Bloodline)

Semenya will finish her hypnotism spell - the tieflings in Line of Site need to make a DC 14 Will Save. She'll move up, hold the potion to Appario and say "Swallow". (Move action to feed a potion of CLW to Appario).

1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

...clearly, we need to get a better brand of these things.
