Harbug moved in a circle, getting behind the last derro and driving his spear through her back. The creature gasped in pain, her eyes rolling up into her skull as she collapsed to the ground.

Jakscar went on full defense mode, still flailing about in the dark and trying to avoid the golem's attacks while the others moved back and out of the magical darkness. One of the golem's blows snuck through, delivering a crushing blow to Jakscar's chest. The catfolk had the wind knocked out of him, and tasted something nasty in his mouth as he gasped for air.

Round 8-9:

Jakscar takes 11 damage and must make me a Fort save.

Harbug must make a DC 15 Fort or take 5 cold damage and be staggered for 1 round.

Did we get the channel, or was Zaph waiting for everyone first?

Weighing her options, Angelica realizes she can't both get back into the fight and take part without a little risk on her part or Jakscar getting out of the dark. So she rushes back into the fray, to stand opposite the stubborn construct. Not the enemy one, but her own little worker. "Whiskers, back out where you can see, I'll draw it into the light." She slashes hard with her clawed hand, ripping at some of the nasty stitching holding the thing together.

People moved quickly into the light, trying to maximize Jakscar's combat potential and reduce confusion. Except, that is, for Angelica, who raced in to make an opening for the catfolk to withdraw. Her hasty movement cost her, as one beefy arm caught her a hard blow. She retaliated, ripping parallel furrows across the stitching holding most of its chest together. The beast roared in fury, then smashed the rogue into the wall a couple of times, making her see stars in the magical darkness.

Round 9-10:

Angelica takes 3 hits for a total of 22 damage and must make me a Fort save.

Delaying until Angelica moves--Harbug is going to use Healing Hex on her; moving as necessary, unless it puts him in range of the construct's attacks. If she falls before getting away from it, Harbug will stab it with his longspear from behind Jackscar (hopefully leaving a clear shot for Shabbezz).

Angelica takes the incredible hits, bouncing back off of the corner between herself and the thing to suffer more abuse at its hands. She asked for it diving back in there to get its attention, but as long as everybody else got out, she can make it work. Once again she uses Buddy to keep it distracted enough for her to once again tear at the crude and disgusting stitches covering the thing.

With a hard scratch at the thing, she then does a dive roll to the side and back out the hallway with the others. She can only hope that Buddy follows, or even better, the big ugly thing. She says as much, "Don't worry about me Buggy, I'm coming. You know I love living on a knife's edge."

Stepping forward to cover Angelica's escape, Jakscar is disturbed by the total darkness in front of him. With a quick word to Harbug. "Leave room i will need to step back." before abusing the creature in every language he can think of, " Come here you lily-livered s$#₩, scared to come out of the dark are you? Scared to face me, Jakscar the master bladesman, well prepare to meet your doom." All the while keeping a shield of steel around himself with his two blades.

Inside the cloud of darkness, Angelica manages to score a good blow, tearing a huge chunk out of the animated creature. Diving out of the darkness and into the light of the torches and light spells once more, she peers into the gloom to see the golem beating on her mechanical spider.

Everyone fell back down the hallway, hoping to lure the creature out into the light. Angelica called to the construct, hoping to use it to draw the creature with it. unfortunately, the golem slammed a beefy arm down on the spider. With a crunch, the metal shell covering its back split open, and delicate gears and mechanisms spilled out. The clockwork servant 's legs splayed outwards as it collapsed. The golem seemed to feel pleased with itself, and lumbered into the hallway to continue its attack on the intruders.

Angelica easily dodged its swing and ferociously ripped her claws across the stitching in its belly. Jakscar, waiting for just such an opportunity, drove his sword into the wound, ripping it sideways to spill a pile of offal and stuffing onto the floor, along with a throbbing, greenish-gray sac. The sac lay twitching for a moment, the green light leaving it as it grew still. The abomination fell backwards with a resounding thud, the sound of its skull hitting the stone floor echoing several times in the sudden quiet.

A few minutes after the creature's death, the globe of magical darkness disappears once more. Entering the chamber, you can see a number of doors to the southwest, a stairwell leading downwards to the west, a doorway to the north, what appears to be a balcony of sorts on the eastern wall, and a spiral staircase heading down.

    Angelica scowls, bites her lower lip, and takes a deep breath. She then steels her features, "No, it's fine. It was just some stupid machine. It was just slowing me down and making too much noise anyways." She clears her throat, swallows hard and adds, "Once we're ready, I say we go this way." She heads toward the northeast portion of the room.

Either way, I agree with Angelica that we should get moving and head northeast. I don't want to stick around in case those derro had friends who might come looking for them."


    In the northeast, where the monster came from, Angelica found a door leading to a circular domed chamber. The center of the room is taken up by a pair of jury-rigged operating tables, complete with leather straps at both ends to hold patients down. Surgical tools litter the room, some spilled onto the floor but most sitting on low shelves. Doors to either side of the circular chamber lead to what appear to be sleeping rooms, though nothing is in these other than bedrolls.

    To the east, Jakscar can definitely see that there is a balcony about 15 feet up the wall, overlooking the main chamber.

    The center of this area appears to be a circular staircase heading downward.

    Shabbezz grimaces at the sight of the surgical tools, but is careful not to touch them.

    "I suppose we're heading downstairs, for lack of options," she states with some discomfort. "We could still scout the area to the southwest, but we'd probably need to backtrack here eventually."

    Walking up next to Angelica as she surveys the ruin of the spider. " Would you throw me away so easily, after all I used to make a lot of noise and slow you down! I liked its clickety clack, it was a good little fighter."
    Moving over at Zaph's offer "I could use a little of that help, i rather struggled to protect myself in the dark. I have no claims on the items we found, although i am happy to carry my share"
    As the group move forward to explore further, Jakscar adopts his usual place. "I fear with those tables we may face more of those golem things, let's hope it isn't in the dark this time. Shabbezz I suppose you are right, although i wish we could check out that balcony as we didn't come across it from the floor above"
    Nothing i particularly want from the pile. Oh and my comment to Angelica is reflecting my sense motive of -1!

    Zaph shakes his head, declining any of the gear at this point.

    He hits Jakscar, Angelica and Harbug with his wand before they move on.

    Harbug - it would take an artificer to fix the clank, or a make whole spell. The tools are not magical, but they are a fine set of surgical tools worth a bit of gold to the right buyer...once they've been cleaned up.

    "Thanks for that. These tools are pretty nice, worth bagging if someone is willing to wash 'em before we sell 'em." Harbug puts the tools in his backpack and returns to following Angelica as she scouts ahead.

    Thank you for declaring it was a -1 Sense Motive Jak, I was thinking I didn't describe it as I wanted for the effect.

    Angelica turns on Jak with a fierce scowl, her teeth clenched, and her mismatched eyes bright with moisture. "You now what 'Cat'?" she says with obvious disdain, "If you do your part, I won't have to worry about throwing you away. Let's hope you still have all nine lives."

    With her demeanor changed, instead of her usual honeyed speech, she declares. "Nope. No stairs, no balcony. We don't know if right around the corner here, these bastards have friends. The stairs around here always lead a long way up or down. That's too far from the here and now. That balcony could easily be in the vicinity of those stairs that led up south of the big eel room. We go southwest."

    Not waiting for a discussion or an answer, she begins moving toward the far corner of the room. BB31 When she gets ahead of the group again, she tries to subtly wipe her tears away, but they cloud her vision.

    Moving up to his usual position, Jakscar was so focused on watching out for Angelica,that he trips on the uneven floor.

    Zaph puts his face in his palm at the antics of the cat and the cat burglar. "Jak, women are as inscrutable as the winding path beyond the horizon. And many times just as treacherous." He looks at the pile of scrap. "But sometimes they're just regular people."


    Angelica headed southwest, growling a little under her breath about the loss of the mechanical companion, and about Jakscar's complete inability to take two steps without falling over himself. She was also more than a little miffed to find yet another staircase heading down, as well as a pair of closed doors.

    Taking a careful study of each door, she found no signs that they were trapped, and both doors were unlocked.

    "Left door or right?" Shabbezz asked, stepping forward. "Shall we flip a coin, or just take the stairs? Maybe we could just take a peek through all three, and then decide what to do."

    Returning her silver dagger to her hand, Angelica turns northward toward the door to her right. BD25 "We go this way. Since we came from the North, there's a better chance that the northern route isn't as expansive as the other direction still could be." That said, she opens the door.

    "Sounds good to me." Harbug falls in 15 feet behind the changeling with his spear.


    Opening the door, Angelica spies a long hallway, ending in a small chamber or large alcove. She can see that there is a worktable against one wall, and what looks like a bedroll of sorts. Something moved in the shadows of the room, but she was unable to make out what it was.

    Angelica is about to quietly signal the group, then decides against it. She will have to teach them some basic signals when she gets a chance, so that she can scout more effectively. She shrugs, then creeps down the hallway to better see what lies beyond.
