Okay, so the Fly spell isn't as Carte Blanche as I thought. It only gives me a +7 to Fly checks (+4 from Good Maneuverability, and +3 for half Zap's level). I still have to make checks to hover, or move less than half speed.

Angelica gets a handle on the method of maneuvering in flight just in time to avoid the many strikes of the sinspawn. She follows after the creature, angling herself to try and not be in the way of her allies' attacks. She stabs at the thing once more with Silverfang, and follows up with a swipe of her left hand.

Magical missiles struck the sinspawn, spinning her sideways and opening up a strike from Angelica's rapier. The sinspawn flung herself onto the burglar, biting and tearing at Angelica, this time drawing blood.

Angelica takes the hits, and tries to focus her attentions on staying effectively aloft beside the thing. She lashes back at it with her same combo as the previous attack, but the pain of the hits was fairly potent.

Angelica and the creature swirled around in the air, lashing at each other with sword, claws, and teeth. Neither found a mark though, and only Shabezz's magical missiles struck home against the sinspawn. Fortunately, Zaphomil didn't need to attack the creature to help his allies. A friendly wave of healing energy poured from the gnome to soothe the hurts of everyone.

Spinning, clawing, biting, scratching, Angelica and the sinspawn tumbled through the air, each one taking and dealing damage. Jakscar and Zaphomil were hesitant with their shots, not wanting to hurt Angelica by accident. Shabbezz was not so constrained, and the grippli's magic missiles slammed into the sinspawn's body again and again. Angelica's body stiffened and lurched as the sinspawn latched on to her throat with its unfolding mouth, visions of lust flooding through her mind.

The wizard grimaced as the sinspawn latched onto Angelica's neck. She saw that that the others were hesitant to strike back while the aberration had the changeling in its clutches, which meant her missile spells were the best option. They were accurate to a fault and had practically no chance of hitting Angelica by mistake.

So if course her wand was down to its last remaining charge and she had expended the spell from her memory. Godsdamn it, Shabbezz told herself; attack now, dither later. Nethys willing, they'd figure something out.

Suddenly extremely concerned by the damage that Angelica has taken, Zaph again switches to channeling positive energy. His skill and training makes sure that the sinspawn is excluded from the healing burst.

In flight, Angelica was unable to land a decent blow, but took a nasty claw across her side. Zaphomil decided to help out by healing, even as Jakscar tried to strategize a way in which he could help. Unfortunately, unless someone could dispel the mage's flight, it looked like Angelica and Shabbezz, with her wand of magic missiles, would be handling this fight alone. Even as Jakscar thought this, another pair of missiles flew to impact with the sinspawn.

In a desperation move, Shabbezz gripped the amulet around her neck and cast her missile spell for the final time.

"That was my absolute last casting of that spell!" she yelled to the party. "We're going to have to take the risk and attack the creature directly!"

Angelica takes the hits and healing in stride, the back and forth of pain and invigoration combined with the odd feelings of lust from the bite make her sensations flare. She stabs with her rapier, but just can't get a good position to bring her left hand down into a solid hit.

Posting tired, a dangerous thing! Just caught the 'latched on'

As Angelica makes no move to tempt the creature into range of the polearm, Jakscar drops it at his feet and raises his bow again.
"Come on, Angelica, please bring it closer. I want to try out it's guisarme, I haven't used one of these in years."

Hoping that Angelica can hold on for a few seconds without another burst of healing, Zaph sees the opening that Jakscar found and tries to hit it with his crossbow.

The barrage of missiles and Angelica's blade finally did the deed. Without her will to keep her aloft, the body of the sinspawn crashed to the floor. Exhausted from the sustained combat, Angelica landed next tot eh sorceress and quickly frisked her for valuables or items of interest. It wasn't her fault if her hands lingered here and there, was it? That flush of desire that had plagued her since the mural was back full force.

    "Wow, am I glad that one's dead, I was beginning to think we might have some problems there."

    Stowing his bow, Jakscar picks the guisarme up from the floor next to him and whilst Angelica frisks the body, moves to check out the rest of the room and the exits. As he moves, he pokes the butt of the polearm at anything dubious or shadowed.

    "That, my friend, is an understatement," Shabbezz answered Jackscar.

    Once Angelica had finished frisking the sorceress, the grippli cast identify over the pile, relating what she had divined to the party.

    "I could certainly make good use of the wands, but they could also be sold off when we get back to town, with the proceeds split between the four of us. Obviously I'm biased, so I'll leave that decision up to you three."

    Angelica's hands found their way to the creature's curves, completely ignoring the monstrous facial features. She kept trying to search for things of interest or value, but once she had handed them all over, she found herself returning to lightly running her fingers along the thing's body. Her cheeks were a little flush and didn't realize it. "Yeah, use them and sell them off, split the money, sounds good, sure." She remarks distractedly.

    Zaphomil touches Angelica's arm. "Let's stop fondling the dead thing, shall we?" he says, trying to put some levity in the rather disturbing situation.

    Turning back to Shabbezz, he gestures to the wands. "I think they'll come in useful. After all, you've made good use of your attack wand. Desna has graced me with the spell of flight, so I can make use of the second wand. It occurs to me that it would have been an easier fight if I could have cast it more than once. It's a useful spell. I might say we'll want to keep all three."

    He pulls out his own wand. "Speaking of useful wands..." He taps it on Angelica a few times.

    I had posted a response to Zap, but don't know what happened to it.

    Angelica starts somewhat at Zaphomil's healing touch, turning to face him with a flush to her cheeks and a light of hunger in her eyes. "Yes, sorry. More people flying would have surely helped me deal with this thing up there." She stands, and looks about the room. Did we see another exit in here somewhere? She starts to head and look toward the back of the room near the throne.

    There was little need to move stealthily, as Angelica saw no sign of other creatures, or any obvious doors. It wasn't until she got to the far end of the room near the throne where something stood out. She wasn't sure what it was that caught her attention, but the wall to the left of the gilded chair was slightly off. Running her hands over it, she found where the surfaces didn't quite match, and a few minutes later discovered the latch to open the secret door.

    I have moved everyone to where the door is, but have not opened it yet.

    "I wonder if we're any closer to another shard," she whispers. "After the incident with the illusion, or whatever that scene was, I would hope that increased defenses would be an indication that we're on the right track."

    Whispering in reply to Shabbezz, "Aye, me too. I could do with getting out of here for a good wash, feed and a night in a comfy bed."
    Receiving the nod from Angelica, Jakscar props the guisarme against a nearby wall and steps forward drawing his blades as he does. Adopting a fighting crouch, he uses his dagger hand to flick the catch and pull the door.


    An abundance of caution is rarely a bad thing, though tedious. Fortunately, it wasn't as if you had a clock running, and Jakscar opened the door with a flick of his blade. Well, it took more than that. The heavy stone door didn't move with his first attempt, and he had ot actually push with one hand to get it to swing open.

    The floor of the revealed octagonal chamber is decorated with a colorful mosaic depicting hundreds of interwoven, multicolored serpents intermingled with disembodied human arms. An iron-bound wooden door sits in the far wall.

    Angelica has a look at the room from the corner of the door, and once she determines it looks safe enough, moves toward the next door to search it for traps.

    If there's not an immediate threat, Zaph casts detect magic and surveys the room for magical auras.


    Angelica saw nothing to indicate the room held dangers for them, and moved in to check out the door on the far side. Zaphomil tried to scan for magical auras, but the blinding resonance of the continual lighting effect that pervaded this place gave him a headache.

    Angelica studied the door on the far side and determined that it was neither trapped nor locked.

    Repeating the process, Jakscar steps up to open the next door, again ready to leap clear or charge in at a moment's notice.

    Shabbezz maintains a careful step some ways behind Jackscar, giving the fighter plenty of lead in case things go sour.


    I am currently at a location where I can get a single bar of signal is I hike about a mile. I wasn't expecting that. I am going to put this game on hiatus until Friday night.


    The door opens to reveal an octagonal room with a broad central column of stone filling the interior. A flight of stairs coils up around the column, passing through an opening in the ceiling thirty feet above. Several doors lie in the chamber's walls. The doors seem to feature a small sliding window around eye level, and wheels that can be turned to lock the doors into their frames. Chains and manacles set into the stone column and racks of torture implements spaced around the room leave little doubt what the room's original purpose was.

    Skulking into the room, Angelica starts toward the southern door. After investigating it and any contents she can see within, she moves west on to the next to do the same, and lastly to the north door.

    Coming into the room, Jakscar and Angelica spread out to observe. What they observed was a host of gray maidens pouring out from behind the pillar and an open room to the southwest. The squad leader bounded past Jakscar and drove her sword deep into his back, twisting the blade to find internal organs.

    Letting out a howl of pain, Jakscar clicks his heels and launches himself back over the leader's head, aiming to do to the squad leader what had so recently been done to him.

    Shabbezz enters the room, jumping suddenly as Jakscar howls. Seeing the catfolk make an agile leap behind the squad leader, she assists by drawing one her new wands and uttering a hissing command word.

Jackscar moved behind her from his current position on the map, so from were I'm standing I should have a clear shot.

    Acid Arrow:

For every three caster levels you possess, the acid, unless neutralized, lasts for another round (to a maximum of 6 additional rounds at 18th level), dealing another 2d4 points of damage in each round.

    Jakscar tried to flip behind the squad leader, but she was ready for such trickery and swung her blade. Fortunately for the catfolk, she mistimed the swing, and he landed and caught her a decent blow. It was followed by a splash of acid that burned into the woman's neck, just above her gorget.

    The rest of the gray maidens moved in, surrounding Angelica and Shabbezz. Both women took hits from the armored foes.

    Angelica exclaims in pained surprise, and decides that a safe retreat from the room would be the best course of action for her currently. Drawing on her natural grace and nimbleness, she dances away from her surrounded state. She darts to stand behind Zap.
