Anklebiter's celestial ape appeared, and its presence was devastating to the zombies. Not only did it mangle the two before it, but it allowed Bruendor and Lefrik to flank, providing the battlefield control necessary to easily put down the two zombies. On the other flank, the ladies weren't doing quite as well. Both Kelendra and Calla hurt their opponents, but the zombies struck back with a vengenance.

Calla took a strong blow from the charging zombie that sent stars reeling across her vision. She could barely fend off the other zombie's blows, and as her vision cleared she saw its long spiny tongue shoot out across the short span between them, lashing her face like a whip covered with cactus spines.

Kelendra fared slightly better, only taking a single blow to the chest.

Meanwhile, the akatas closed the distance, bearing in on Lefrik and Anklebiter.

Round 3:

Calla takes 9 damage, 7 damage, and 2 damage, and owes me a Fort save.

Kelendra takes 6 damage

"Vos invoco, vos invoco," Anklebiter chants, his arms slowly rising and pointing in two different directions. His eyes open, just as the Akata bears down on him, and he chants the final word: "Araneae!"

Webbing spurts past the Goblin -- and also past Lefrik, both blasts impacting an Akata. Two medium-sized spiders, their bodies covered in bristly, golden fur, have appeared out of thin air and spat webbing at the lead akata to slow them down.

Anklebiter is not waiting to see whether the arachnids' attack is successful. "Scutum!" he spits in the face of the approaching Akata. An oval of pure force appears in front of the Goblin, who scampers to stand between Lefrik and Bruendor. "Everyone pull together!" he yells to the girls.

Calla feels her knees shaking as the strength is sapped from her. As the zombie's tongue withdrew, she could see it pulsating, and the remnants of a large amount of her blood seemed to absorb into the needle-filled pores of the tongue's surface. She fought through the weakness and connected with the zombie once more, but the feeble blow barely harmed it.

Anklebiter finished casting and moved to Lefrik's side, passing Bruendor on the way. The sturdy dwarf slammed into the nearest akata, driving his rapier deep into purple hide. The dwarf was in danger of getting surrounded when the summoned spiders managed to encase two of his foes in webbing.

Lefrik stepped forward and waited fo rthe akatas to come close, his axe held loosely in his hands. At the last minute, he whipped the axe in a blurred arc, slamming the extra-sharp head into the charging akatas. Two of his foes fell instantly, while the third weakly attacked with its head half-severed.

Calla again took the brunt of the attacking zombies' strikes. With two of them on her, and weakened from the blood loss, she wasn't able to defend herself from all the strikes. Two heavy slams got through, knocking the inquisitor to the ground.

Round 4[:

Calla takes 2 points of Str damage from the zombie's blood drain ability.

Calla takes 2 hits for 10 damage and 18 damage, which should be enough to send her bleeding to the ground at -1 hp (I think)

Crap. I thought I posted in here from last round. Sorry!!!

Bruendor curses under his breath as Calla falls to one of the zombies. "Lef, I'll hold this line, get over to Calla, now!" Bruendor stabbed at one of the akata, focusing more on defense than killing the beast.

Mechanics:

Lefrik races towards the zombies, he had thought they might focus on the animals, but their hunger for Calla even when she was downed was clear Don't die, don't die! As his legs carry him towards the undead, his muscles seem to swell with the anger he feels, both at his misjudgment, and at his enemy. DM Bigrin:
Unless we've killed all our enemies this round, you'll probably have to DMPC me for the next. :-\ Anklebiter will play bodyguard for Calla, using acid splash to attack any monster that comes near her. The ape will continue to batter any zombies left moving; if the zombies are gone, it moves over to flank the akatas with the spiders. The spiders continue attacking the akatas, poisoning them on each successful bite. If the akatas break free of the web, the spiders switch to webbing them again. All Anklebiter's summoned troops flank whenever possible.

The remaining zombies went down to a concerted effort by Anklebiter's ape and Lefrik - which, coincidentally, looked somewhat alike. The spiders rushed to Bruendor's aid, but hte dwarf, so focused on his defense, was not able to land a telling strike. Fortunately for him, the akata were too caught up in the webbing to effectively attack, and he was able to fend off the feew blows that came close.

Calla coughed and wheezed as the curative magics brought her back from the brink of death. Kelendra sighed in relief as her companion sat up, safe from Pharasma's realm for now.

Growling, Anklebiter sights on one of the Akatas and flicks a glob of acid at its face. "Stilla acida!"

The Goblin then turns to his summoned simian with new combat orders. "Kill the purple monsters! Good ape, good!" Anklebiter says, making an enthusiastic hand gesture at the wounded ape. The celestial gorilla does, indeed, knuckle over to the webbed beasts, standing side-by-side with Bruendor, but it is clearly being dragged down by its wounds and exhaustion now; its first swing strikes solidly, but its second is weak and listless. Chest heaving, the giant ape beats its chest for one final time -- and the air around it starts to swirl and darken as its summoning begins to come to an end.

The spiders launch themselves at their assigned Akatas meanwhile, cleverly using Bruendor's position to enhance their own. Dripping mandibles dig through the webs, seeking weak spots to exploit. Wherever they find purchase, the spiders start pumping poison into the creatures from beyond the stars.

"Calla, don't go near them now," the Goblin beseeches the Inquisitor. "We almost lost you, let us finish them off. Take it easy until we've got you completely back to rights."

Anklebiter casts Acid Splash at Akata M15, flanking with his summoned spider before it moves. Ranged touch attack 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20 for 1d3 ⇒ 1 damage.

Spider M16 moves to L16, flanking with Bruendor, and attacks the akata at M15: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15 for 1d6 ⇒ 2 plus poison. Fort. save DC14 or 1d2 ⇒ 1 Str. damage.

Inside, the akata are about as foreign as their outsides. Few of the organs look familiar to Kelendra, and she vaguely motioned towards a couple of clusters of lumpy organs for harvesting.

As the three were concentrating on their autopsy, Calla and Bruendor kept an eye out for more danger.

It didn't take long for the grisly job to be done with, and the organs were wrapped in cloths for travel. You hurried as best as you could towards the northern coast, your progress hampered by the terrain and your own exhaustion.
