Anklebiter the Insane |
"Why not let Anklebiter provoke it from afar?" the Goblin suggests, wiggling his fingers. "Better make it come to us than wade in and get stung or bitten, yes? A few splashes of acid, to annoy it, and..."
Anklebiter the Insane |
"Not smart, cast spells when others charge or fire valuable arrows," Anklebiter says, shaking his head. "Damage the wrong stuff."
Anklebiter the Insane |
The Goblin edges sideways until he can get a clear view of whatever it is that set off Calla's senses, and hurls a glob of acid at it.
And now we wait for the DM to recover. ^^
Bruendor Cavescouter |
Bruendor lowered his crossbow slightly when nothing emerged from the pool. "It's not taking the bait. Maybe we need to poke it harder." He lines up his shot again, and fires at the area Calla indicated.

Brundor's shot elicited an unearthly howl and water erupted from the pool as the long-dead remains of a human dressed in pirate regalia leaped into the air. It's red eyes glowed with a hateful fury as it glared at the dwarf and began to attack.
Kelendra Shae |
Sensing the need to protect her friends from the foul taint of the undead pirate, Kel prays for the party, moving forward to encompass everyone as necessary.
cast Bless on the party, move forward to create 30' range as needed to get the whole party if Anklebiter or Bruendor move forward
Anklebiter the Insane |
"Do I grease up the floor, magic your weapons or attack?" Anklebiter squeaks. "Choose, quickly!"

I'd say save your spells, but I tend to be very conservative in that regard...
Knowing her bow won't be effective against the skeleton, Calla drops it, pulling out her shield for protection. Then she steps forward, her whip snapping out as she tries to wrap it around one of the skeleton's bony legs to pull it out from under it.
Surprise round? Drop bow and arrow, equip shield

"Roger dodger! Stilla Acida!" Anklebiter chants, and he flicks acid at the undead monstrosity.
I've cast my 1st-level assault spells, anyway. :-\ Ranged touch attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10. Damage if successful: 1d3 ⇒ 1.
Bruendor Cavescouter |
Even Bruendor was surprised at the unquiet dead's ferocious attack, but he quickly rewound his crossbow and fired off another bolt at the beast, taking aim at the creature's skull.
Move: Reload crossbow.
Standard: Attack the pirate again. I think I should have sneak attack on it, since it's not technically gone?

Anklebiters spell flew wide as the excited goblin rushed his attack. Bruendor's shots lanced into the undead creature, sending gobbets of rotten flesh flying, but the creature came on, oblivious. It didn't even notice Calla's whip, rushing towards the inquisitor to strike with its arms like clubs. Calla slipped the blow, but barely, robbing the strike of much of its strength.
Anklebiter the Insane |
"No! Bad bones!" Anklebiter shrills as he hops away from the undead abomination. "Go away! Stilla Acida!"
The Goblin flicks acid at the undead yet again.
I'm having trouble getting the map to load... Anklebiter will move away from the enemy, but preferably while staying with the group. He casts Acid Splash again: Ranged attack roll: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24. Damage if successful: 1d3 ⇒ 3.
Anklebiter the Insane |
Um, it's more that my network has been acting crappy since yesterday evening. ^^; Loading takes oodles of time when it wants to connect at all.
Calumny "Calla" Tas'vere |
No problem with the map here. It's lovely. However, Calla's whip has reach, so she should've gotten an attack of opportunity, I think, on the skeleton as it closed to melee range, though the dice rolls mean it's pretty irrelevant.

Cracking her whip again, she tries to make it wrap around the skeleton's legs as she steps back, growling as it gets fouled and throws off the attack.

Anklebiter, I think you should roll to see if you confirm the crit on your Acid Splash!
"I thought we weren't fighting this thing close up!", Bruendor cried as Calla moved forward, suddenly overwhelmed by the undead horror. He cast aside his crossbow, and rushed towards the fight. "Legs akimbo, girly!", he shouted, crouching into a slide to tumble between Calla's legs, kicking up a cloud of filthy sand as he went. He pulled his rapier, and slashed at the beast, hoping to end its tortured existence and keep his friends from becoming its next unholy meal.
Drop my crossbow, and head to AS50. I'll use Acrobatics to try to avoid the attack of opportunity generated by moving from AR50 to AS50. This is all predicated on the assumption that I can't move into AR49, due to limited space in that square. If I can, I'll do that and avoid having to make the attack of opportunity at all. Regardless, once I get to AS50, I'll attack the beast.

The undead sailor jerks as spell and blade hit it, but still managed to swing at Bruendor. The dwarf easily ducked the sluggish blow and pressed the attack.

"Keep at it! I think we're wearing it down!" Anklebiter shouts, hopping up and down with excitement. "Stilla Acida!"
As before, the little Goblin hurls acid at the undead foe.

Kel continues to watch the party battle the creature, staying a healthy distance away from it. She's ready to rush to the aid of a companion if needed.

DM Bigrin |
The combination of acid and steel finally sent the undead wight back to his rest...permanently this time. The cavern, which had been fairly clean, reeked of rotten flesh and acid, with gobbets of undead flesh spattered about. The corpse landed in the water and sank to the bottom, with no gases left to keep it afloat. One arm trailed over the chest in the water, the motion looking as if even in eternal death, the sailor wished to keep it safe.
Anklebiter the Insane |
"Simple spells still pack a good punch," Anklebiter says, giggling.
"Oh... Nobody got hurt badly, did they? Except for the moving corpse?"
DM Bigrin |
Muscles trembling as he held back the impulse to fling himself away from whatever traps might be laid, Lefrik manhandles the chest out of the water and breaks the rusty lock with an easy blow from his axe. He carefully lifted the lid to find treasure indeed. Pirate treasure! A small mound of coins with large rubies perched like eyes. A golden statue peeked from beneath the dripping coins and a crystal wand lay atop it all.
You killed a wight, and didn't even lose any levels. Congratulations! 160 XP to everyone.
Loot:
Anklebiter the Insane |
"Oooh..." Anklebiter coos as he scurries forward.
The Goblin playfully pokes Lefrik in the biceps. "If the fame and adventure-thing doesn't work out, you could clean up as a professional arm wrestler, giant friend Lefrik Olegson."
The little Wizard mutters a cantrip and subjects the loot to a careful - and cautious - scrutiny.

Can I see what school the magic is? And did my Knowledge (history) check identify the idol?
Anklebiter makes a displeased noise.
"Can't figure out the wand," he admits. "Calla and Kelendra, do you want to try before anyone touches it and unleashes an undead bugbear or something?"
Bruendor Cavescouter |
Bruendor was about to insist on a quick investigation of the lock, but his protestations fell on deaf ears. He gave Lefrik a dour look as the heedlessly smashed open the lock and opened the dead pirate's chest. "Hrmph. You're just fortunate it weren't a dwarven made chest. Any security on that would still be ready to kill you." He awaited the spellcasters to finish their magical investigations.
