That morning Telias fills up his open memorized slot with Cure Light Wounds
Telias watches the crag cautiously but otherwise makes no comment. Grumbling under his breath at the mention of mining.

Alright, will keep a note of that. As for entangle you are basically in the wilds so I see no reason for weeds not to come up and grapple creatures as is the point of a druid is to command and commune with nature. I allow it even on roads where you basically bring to life weeds ot grapple people, but only for the duration of the spell.[/spoiler]

That is fair, I am dazzled in bright light and have -1 to several things. - Orc sub-type.
If nobody has claimed it, it is ours. I say we conceal it so that we can find it in the future, but for now we leave it be unless we can get some easy gold from it.

"If the excitement of some new rings or necklaces is too much for you to bear, there's a pickaxe in the wagon you can use to free some ore. I say we just move along as planned. No sense in worrying about someone else planting themselves in that mine. Chances are they would be people we're being ordered to hunt and kill."
Anyone else find it funny that we've made it this far into the AP without any random encounters? Idk if its something to be grateful for or not haha.

Telias rubs his beard. "Useless glittery stuff. Only ever bother with it because I needs it fer my tobacco."
From the stories ive been told about the random encounters yes we should be grateful. Telias wasn't being a braggart wehn he told you about the things that could rip us apart out there.

Actually you have had a few like the fey that surprised you and made you dance and the worg too.
Lukan Swane "Swaney" |
"Well lets throw some bushes over it and be on our way then." Lukan goes to the task and mounts up, ready to head towards the mite's den.
DM Aron Marczylo |
what about mapping out the area so you know where it is again?
Carina Stigard |
what about mapping out the area so you know where it is again?
Yeh - that sounds like a good idea as well. We map out the area so that we can find the gold mine, and then move on to miteyer things.
Telias Markan |
"Best to leave it as is and map it out as the young lady said. Make it look like it's hidden adn somthins going to notice someoen tride to hid it ifin ya git ma meanin?" Telias says after some thought. "Been this long here without anyone makin notice. It can wait longer ifin we don't bring attention to it. Jes sayin."
Jameson Addercop IV |
"I see one of two situations, and I believe Telias is agreeing with me. Either the person who finds it is friendly to us, in which case we have no problem. Or the person who finds it isn't friendly to us, in which case they have a problem."
Gold, always it comes back to gold. My former lord certainly thought more of it than Donal.
Lukan Swane "Swaney" |
Incase you were looking for a decision, I think we are headed forward towards the mites after mapping this area out (and consequently camping for the night).
DM Aron Marczylo |
Sorry guys just been slowed down by family being over and ect. Going to catch up now.
1d100 ⇒ 71
As you map out nothing else happens as you then sit down and camp for the night. The next morning you head south, entering the area where the mite lair possibly is by the large sycamore tree.
Group Perception:
Catrina Stigard: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4
The Hermit Ganit D'Artain: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Jameson Addercop IV: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (7) + 0 = 7
Sir Bronwyn Raslov: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Lukan Swane "Swaney": 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
Telias Markan: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 10 + 2 = 31
Though half the group were unable to see any sign, Sir Bronwyn, Lukan and Telias manage to spot a hidden entrance, large enough for any medium-sized creature to slip into. You can't help but notice that all around there appears to be a battle ground with dead and rotting kobolds and mites, stripped of their pathetic equipment and left to rot. If anything this look more like a full scale war between these two species.
There are many roots that run down the sides of the inside of the entrance walls to aid anyone who wishes to attempt to climb down.
making the climb check a DC 5 basically.
Lukan Swane "Swaney" |
"Woah boy." Lukan commands his horse as he brings it to a stop, looking towards the hidden entrance. He lifts himself from the saddle and steps down. A second later he pulls his cold iron longsword from its hilt and slings his shield onto his arm. He carefully approaches the hidden entrance, waving the rest of the group to follow.
Perception to see if there are any traps: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
Lukan Swane "Swaney" |
"We wont be able to cull this threat sitting around up here. Who knows where these tunnels lead." Lukan holsters his shield on his back and kneels over, pulling a lantern from a clasp on his backpack. He sets it on a nearby rock and begins to strike his flint to the wick.
Carina Stigard |
For some reason I can see extremely well in the dark - which is interesting since as with yourself Telias, I could not see at all but a few weeks ago. I say our best option is to take these down as you all did the Fawns before James and I joined you. Set up a row of traps around the entrance and then draw them out. Even if we take out a few, that is a few less we will have to kill. If these are like elves and other fey, I do not think my sleep spell will be very effective.
Ganit, can you scout and determine whether there are other entrances?
Telias, can you feathery friend scout and communicate whether there are any other entrances around?
The Hermit Ganit D'Artain |
"I'll let the bird check for other entry points. I'm far more concerned with this one," Ganit replies to Carina as he sorts through the equipment in his backpack. He takes the potion by Cambyl identified as 'barkskin' just before his departure and chugs it down as quickly as possible. Ugk! It tastes like salted dirt moldy bread. Slinging his bag onto his back, Ganit joins Lukan at the edge of the cave with his bow in one hand and sunrod in the other.
”Is everybody ready to get some jewelry for the shopkeeper’s wife?" He cracks the sunrod on the rock the soldier had placed his lantern then drops it down into the dark to let it illuminate the surrounding area.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15 (+1 vs Traps, +2 vs Humans)
Jameson Addercop IV |
"I've no desire to leave Donal here but I see little choice, I doubt the survivors are going to come to us Carina."
Jameson dismounts Donal and checks over his equipment. The lance he leaves behind, as well as his pack.
"I'm going to leave the bulkier equipment on Donal here, and have him watch over the other mounts. No sense taking too much into passages that we may not fit into."
Leaving backpack and lance, equipping sword and shield after we climb down.
Telias Markan |
"I'd do it." Telias says. "But Ratbreath here is dumb as hell. He'd point out every varmint hole in the area beforheed point out anything useful. Ain't much good in the hole either." With that he snatches the hissing bird off his shoulder and plants him on the saddlehorn. The bird squawks in protest but sits quietly preening its ever ruffled feathers. Digging into his saddle bags he pulls out a torch that already appears lit. It's soft glow gives off no heat. "Guess we best get to it then."
Pulling out my everburning torch.
Lukan Swane "Swaney" |
Lukan sees the light sources that simply, no pun intended, outshine his. He is content to return his lantern to his backpack and does so. Pulling his shield he steps first into the cave, keeping an eye out for any mites he may come across. "Ganit, would you be so kind as to let me know if I am about to spring a trap?"
The Hermit Ganit D'Artain |
"We'll see..." Ganit responds casually. With an arrow loaded in his hand he watches Lukan climb down the tangled mass of roots leading down cave wall. When he sees him finally make it to where his sunrod landed, Ganit takes his turn climbing down.
Climb v DC 5: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
DM Aron Marczylo |
Yes you have the book. I was thinking of a price and how does 30 gold plus a +1 bonus to knowledge arcana checks sound?
Sir Bronwyn, also fearful of his armour decides to attempt to climb down behind Jameson and taking his time with it.
Just calculated his climb and I think he's smart enough to not want to slip and knock you all down. I assume Lukan's first, right?
As Lukan enters he notices 3 mites running around and as he entered one appears to have just caught a caltrob fired by one of the mites, swallowing the caltrob as it lands in his mouth. Just as Ganit and Catrina arrive the mites notice them and jump into combat. The other three are still climbing down, though will be there soon.
Be there next round as you are taking your time travelling down the small tunnel.

"Don't let any of them get away, they'll warn the others!" Ganit calls as he releases a cold iron arrow at the mite directly in front of him. Standard action to shoot L21
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

Ganit's arrow strikes the mite hard, managing to cut deep past their thickened skin and penetraits deep into the creature's chest, falling to the floor instantly.
cold iron arrows or not? Also cold iron weapons?
Carina Stigard |
I am so slow that I can take a nap before my turn. Zzzzzzzz.
When it is my turn.
Knowledge(arcana): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 <-- have I learned anything else about these beasties?
Cast: Acid Splash @ L23 or another one if this one is dead
Attach-Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 <-- +1 from Orc Bloodline
The Hermit Ganit D'Artain |
Yessir, I'm all stocked up on cold iron arrows and bought a ci battleaxe. I think Lukan has a ci sword and there's a mwk handaxe floating around somewhere too.
Lukan Swane "Swaney" |
Lukan nods at the ranger's orders and manuevers towards the mite in front of him while he swings his cold iron longsword down upon it 'mite-ly.'
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24 (Dang, shoulda used the scimitar)
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
The sword easily cleaves through the small creature, almost splitting it in two.
DM Aron Marczylo |
The size of the chamber was made for small creatures so Lukan's swing was more difficult than it would've been out in the open but Lukan still manages it and takes the creature's head off and the cold iron making the fey's skin singe as the blade cuts through the skin.
The lone mite attempts to mellee with Lukan as it finds itself cornered and it looks as if the creature's knife was about to bypass his armour and hit him in a vital area, but he just misses and hits Lukan's leg, drawing blood, but only with a small cut.
attack: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (19) + 0 = 19
Crit confirm: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (1) + 0 = 1 Fail :(
damage: 1d3 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1
Knowledge Aracana doesn't work on these things only knowledge nature.
These are known as mites. So ugly these little blue creatures are that even goblins laugh at their uglyness, however they have a famliarity with vermin just like Ettercaps have with spiders.
These creatures have scent, low-light vision and darkvision so they are perfectly apt at hiding in the dark or sneaking around without being hampered by vision problems.
Their skin is magically toughened like all Fey and only cold iron can cut through their damage reduction which is only 2. These creatures are known to be cruel and sadistic. There is nothing that they love more than to torture innocent creatures, which the catapults made of bone should tell you nearby.
Bio:
Descended from even smaller fey, the mites are among the most pitiful and craven dwellers of the dark. Hideously ugly, even goblins have been known to mock mites for their homely appearances, mockery most mites take to heart and nurture for weeks, months, or even years in their tiny homes, until their distress and anger finally overcome their natural cowardice and impel them forth on short-lived bouts of bloody vengeance from the doubtful safety of a spider's back.
Mites, once closer to the strange realm of the fey, have grown larger and stockier after countless generations spent on the Material Plane. Yet still, their stature places them at the bottom of the pile in the dangerous caverns in which they live. Their traditional enemies are dwarves and gnomes, particularly the svirfneblin of the deep underground caves. The one thing that gives them a significant edge over an enemy in a fight is their natural ability to empathize with normally mindless vermin—mites are particularly fond of spiders, centipedes, and cave fishers, and a mite colony usually has a few of these far more dangerous monsters on hand to defend the group.
Although they have lost the supernatural ability to tinker with magic items, luck, or mechanical objects possessed by their more sinister and dangerous gremlin kin, mites retain the ability to perform minor magical tricks with prestidigitation, and often use these tricks to annoy their enemies. When faced with dangerous foes, a mite uses its doom ability to hex a foe—a mite's eyes bulge hideously open when it uses this spell-like ability.
A mite is 3 feet tall and weighs 40 pounds.
DM Aron Marczylo |
Catrina's acid burns the creature, dropping the final mite to the ground with the acid cutting through it's flesh. It seems though their skin is thick against weapons the acid ate right through it.
The rest of the group make their way down after the third mite drops and examining the scene before them.
Simple choice here. Left or Right?
Telias Markan |
BTW are we assuming you guys passed the wand over to Telias in game with the understanding it was to be used on you and not to be hocked for pipe tobacco?
Telias follows the others leads for now content to let the more experienced mass murderers do the heavy lifting and getting stabbed.
The Hermit Ganit D'Artain |
Can ya belie I got ferty pounds a' dat good wet tobacca fer that-there glowin' twig?
Ganit picks up his sun rod and waves it over the trio of dead mites and leaning in to get a better look at their features, "Damn, these things are uglier than I remembered. This one got you pretty good Lukan. Lets hope you don't bleed out by the time we're lucky enough to greet the rest of his family."
"I think there's a cold iron handaxe back on the supply wagon if you want to go up and grab it; we can wait for you." He replies to James, "If not then we go left and tear this place apart."
Jameson Addercop IV |
"If you don't mind I'll do just that, no sense risking us all due to my poor planning."
Unless I missed something and we actually did wait for the merchants or Oleg actually had a cold iron longsword for sale, I'll climb back up and grab the handaxe, then back down.
Lukan Swane "Swaney" |
Lukan looks confused at what Ganit said. He looks himself over after the adrenaline flees his veins. Noticing the small cut on his leg he smiles, "of course it would be a mite that drew my blood for the first time since I started this charge." He dons his shield and waits for Jameson to return. Upon the half-orcs return he decends deeper into the lair. Judging left as character's left, I head down to R2
The Hermit Ganit D'Artain |
"Remember to keep your eyes open for any traps," Ganit warns as they start down the next corridor.
Taking 20 if possible for 27 (28 v traps), otherwise:
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14 (+1 vs Traps)
Lukan Swane "Swaney" |
Lukan perks up and slows down, looking around for any danger.
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
